Off to the side of the Big Tent, lies a huddle of smaller pop up tents complete with some tables and chairs. Not only is this a convenient spot to rest your feet, but there lies something of interest in the shade of these tents. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice signs propped against the poles of this mini tent complex. Step on up for enchanted face painting and balloon animals!
In one area waits a small army of artists, paints ready, eager to decorate your (and/or your child's) face with their favorite magical creature. Need some help picking? On the tables is a small booklet of examples of animals these artists can recreate for you. The most popular is a unicorn that is enchanted to trot across one's cheek.
If face paints aren't your thing, be sure to check out our special balloon animal artists. There is a line, but it is definitely worth the wait to get your hands on a balloon bowtruckle clinging to a balloon branch or a balloon crown that models the three heads of a runespoor. Step on up and request one of these two specialties or request a replica of your favorite magical creature.
OOC: The enchanted face painting and balloon stations are not staffed. Feel free to have your character make and receive their animal face-paint and/or balloon requests.
Even if he wasn't outwardly showing his excitement, Gunnar was pretty eager for this carnival. It seemed like it would be a lot of fun and he was sure some of his mates would be around. And it really wasn't that hard to convince his parents to be allowed off on their own - as long as they kept an eye on Morgan, which was proving to be just as difficult as he expected considering the nearly nine year old was always full of energy and wanted to see everything.
Unlike his brother, Morgan was the picture of excitement. This carnival was awesome! And he needed to do all the things! But where to start?? His brother and sister were not moving nearly quickly enough, even as he tried to run up ahead of them. Oh.... look! "There!" He pointed at the balloons and kids getting their faces painted before coming to a stop in front of the tents. He wanted to be next!

So far Harper was having the best time ever. She had spent most of the time at the petting zoo. She also shared a funnel cake with her siblings, and tried to beat the game. Which were clearly rigged so that you couldn’t win.
She was just determined to beat at least one. Just to prove that it could be done. But sadly she had ran out of money, aside from the price of a facing painting and animal balloon. She made sure that she had that money for that.
Standing in line, she looked over the provided booklet with all the paintings inside. She couldn’t decide on what facepainting to get.

See Eloise knew that in order for her to have a semblance of fun at this carnival she would need to eat a lot of food and see how Eiji was with his face painted and what animal he would pick. She got in line with him.

As the young and old both waited in line for animal balloons or to get their faces painted the juggler stood in perfect sigh of everyone there. He pulled out a red ball and a yellow ball from one of his many pockets he had on his outfit. Each pocket was full of something to juggle around. They were also easily accessible in the middle of his tricks.
Tossing the red ball into the air and catches it, then the yellow ball. Soon the two balls were being juggled up into the air. At some point in the mix he added a blue ball.

Hanna's entire family were here! Her mother, father, three sisters, and baby brother. Not that her mother would let her hold him, of course, but that was fine. He was so tiny. She also wasn't surprised that Lena, who was getting ready to start Hogwarts, also didn't want her face painted, but the little ones did of course. So, here they were. Hanna looked through the booklet and saw a cat design she liked. Maybe she would get that. Mikaela and Elsie wanted unicorns.
Hanna got some money from her mother to take Mik and Elsie to get their faces done, too, and off she led them towards the face painter.

Baylen Brown received a lot of blame for things from one Junia Botros. Things he would casually point out were certainly not his fault. Though being here was making him seriously considering coming back tomorrow as well and bringing his little sisters along. Merlin knew they could use a bit of lighthearted fun after what all they had put up with at Hogwarts.
"I am sure they could turn you into a flower fairy if you asked for it," he mussed, thumbs hooked around the belt loop on his jeans while his hands drummed on his thighs. "Or have them go all the way around your face for a floral wreath." To her suggestion, he merely arched a brow at her. "I was thinking of asking for something over the top, like a Chinese Fireball." These lies, seeing as he had only just thought of it on the spot as they strolled.
Naturally, his chocolate eyes fell on one of the performers in the area - a juggler at that. "Hey, think he'll let me join in?" he whispered with a bit of a mischievous grin. Baylen was a performer by nature, it was in his blood, and summer was mostly being spent on the WADA stage during their summer run of West Side Story. But juggling was not something he had ever seriously tackled before.
No time like the present, eh?

Eiji had reluctantly been missing Eloise ever since they had parted ways after the Hogwarts Express, but when he had agreed to going to the carnival with her he had not anticipated this little side quest.
"Food stands are over that way," he reminded her for possibly the tenth time since she had dragged him this way. "Need implies something that is essential or very important rather than just desirable. Face painting does not fall into this category." Only problem was that fighting this would just exert energy he did not want to waste, so the third year was truly in a lose-lose situation.
And he was just glad mum and dad weren't here for pictures.
"Just pick something for me." Seemed the easiest option.

Somehow someway Manon ended up at the carnival with some of the other kids from the residence, but somehow someway they also seemed to have lost each other in the more than usual hustle bustle in the alley. She didn't mind though, she preferred to be alone.
Absorbed in the juggler's performance, she ended up near the face painting place where her ears perked at the sound of very familiar voices.
Turning, she saw two of her fellow Slytherins.
Huh.
"Well, well...Out on a date, are we?" She said in way of greeting, one brow raised.

Gaston was looking better than he had in many months. He had gained some weight back, and his hair had been cut and dyed back to its usual black. the sumer months had been good to him, but he couldn't shake the feelings of loss. He hadn't wanted to come to Diagon Alley today. The possibility of running into one of his now former students was too much for him to handle; it would remind him that he wasn't going back to Hogwarts with them and send him spiraling into sadness all over again. But Desiree wanted to go to the carnival, and whatever she wanted she got. Her happiness was worth all the sadness he had to endure!
He smiled at the little dark-haired girl in his arms. "Where to first, sweetie?" he asked her, and she pointed at the face painting area. "Okay, face painting it is!"
Gaston joined the line and soon spotted a few familiar faces in the crowd. "Hello, Hanna," he greeted the eldest of the girls with a small smile. "Fancy running into you here! Do you know what design you're going to get?"
His bright blue eyes flicked back to his daughter. "Say 'hi', Desiree," he said. The little girl gave a small wave and a shy "Hi", but her eyes lit up at the sight of the booklet Hanna had. "Kitty!" she exclaimed, pointing at the cat design.

It's a good thing Connor was a supposed mature grownup trusted person, because Valencia couldn't dare stand to miss something as exciting as a carnival. She had to come with her brother because, despite what her parents told her, she was pretty convinced her mother was about to plot to break all the animals out and her dad had to keep that in check.
But that was okay with her. Coming with Connor meant that he would hang out with his friends and she could hang out with hers. Which meant she immediately wandered off to find Harper.
She spotted her fellow last name Phillips friend in line to get her face painted. She happily joined. "What are you going to get?"

"Hi Desiree," she said, chorused by hello's from Mik and Elsie. "Mum, dad, Lena, and Oliver are over there somewhere." In case he was interested in seeing them at all. But she was happy to see him, and Desiree. "Where's Rose today?" Hanna loved her... whatever it was Rose was to her. Second Cousin? Something like that. She wanted to ask how he was, and if he was getting some fun stuff in, but decided against it in front of her younger sisters and Desiree.

Liliane was loving summer. Summer was the best. All her friends were home from school, and it was U17 season. This summer was going to be great. she had been working really hard over the entire year. Last summer, and her 4th year at Hogwarts had been pretty horrendous, and so she was a lot happier now. The last year had been really good for her, and she was feeling so much better about everything. Going to a carnival last summer wouldn't have been her thing, but she was super excited to go there now, and to have a great time. The blonde beamed to herself as she wandered along the alley and to where the carnival was. Oh yes. The summer was going to be great.
Ooooh. Face painting! Now she may have been 16, but she really was not against getting her face painted. Her inner child adored the idea. So this was her first spot. Now.....what to get painted on her face!

She quite liked the idea of a flower fairy, honestly. Sounded like something she would've dressed up as when she was small, fluttering around the garden and insisting the twins play along. The thought made her smile, one that grew wider at the mention of a Chinese Fireball gracing her boyfriend's skin. "How very manly of you." Perhaps they could even charm it to move. Something that danced on him seemed extremely appropriate.
"He who?" The nineteen year old followed his gaze, head tilting to the side as her eyes fell on the juggler. He was impressive, though Junia didn't feel the same urge to be a part of his act.
"Is this another one of those bucket list things?" Because if it was, she'd be okay with putting off her flower fairy dreams for a little bit longer. "I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask. Go on." She nudged him gently in the man's direction, amused.

"Why not make it a double date, at least. Even out the numbers," he grinned. "So what ya all getting? Balloon animals or face paintings?"

It was time to shine, all dressed up in bright festival red and white strips, Joseph took towards the face painting area. He had bright clown makeup on and crazy stripped hat. It was all set to make the kids and even adults look at him in awe, though he knew that they wouldn't be looking at his makeup or clothes as much as his height. The stilts hid under his pants and even though you knew it was stilts it was still an amazing sight.
"Well Hello"
Waving toward the people as he walked through the crowd, it already was looking like a good time and a great turnout for the first day.
Seeing people's face painted, she wanted to get hers painted now, but she didn't know what. Ooh... there were books to look at? Maybe she can decide by looking through the books. Yeah... that'll help her make up her mind, but she loved alot of animals. Walking through the crowd she waited her turn to look at the books and squealed when she seen a unicorn. "Ooh... pretty! she said looking at it.
She frowned though, she didn't have enough for it though, she spent too much on games. Aww... man she really wanted that one! Looking through her pockets she counted how much she had. She didn't see any that she seen, closing the books she gotten up from the seat frowning.
Another stop, another opportunity to make some cash. Whistling to herself, the Card Shark, searched for a target. She figured a good place to start was in a tent full of adults that would be otherwise unoccupied while their children had their faces painted.
"Anyone fancy a game?" she asked loudly while shuffling a deck of cards one handed.
"A little Find the Lady, maybe?" That was simple and fast. It also made for easy winnings for her.

She was hoping to get to go, but mom said she would have to look at their scheduled and to Chloe's fullest dreams and wishes they were able to go to the carnival. She owled all her friends to tell them they would be there and she hoped to see them, but for now, she was going to stick with her brothers and do what her parents said. Her eyes couldn't just focus on one thing once they were there, so many colors and sounds going on.
'What should we do first?" She wanted to find some friends and maybe some food, but the boys seemed to have headed straight for the face painting and balloons, which she thought was an interesting choice, but knowing Morgan this would be where he wanted to be.
He did not disappoint as he pointed. "Do you want balloons for face painting first?" Was she to old now for facepaint? The third-year thought about this for a moment and decided no she wasn't, she would get her face painted, but just something small in case someone would comment. She could totally pass it off as Morgan wanted her to.

Eloise was lucky he tolerated her more than most others. More than that, he truly did enjoy her company when the conditions were right. Though he had some regrets in curiously asking her to be his date to the that prom thing since he still hadn't heard the end of it from his parents.
"I don't really like snakes anyway," he said with a small shrug to her suggestion. He did have a naked rat for a pet, after all. More inclined towards the rodents if he had to choose an animal. Though the thought of being painted to look like a cute mouse was equally as unappealing. "Well...if it's important to you..." he trailed off with a bit of an eye roll.
He could put up with this. It was just for today and fighting it would just take extra effort.
While outwardly his face remained the same brand of stoic indifference as usual, his insides dropped and twisted when Manon made her appearance.
...and then said that.
He, thankfully, had a bit of a chuckle at how quickly Eloise dismissed the idea "It is," he said with a small shrug. Dates could be defined as a social appointment which this very well was. He had, after all, asked and suggested to Eloise that they go to the carnival together. Technically it counted. "And since you are now included on it you can help Eloise. She is struggling to come up with a concept for me."
Only it seemed today he was destined to be forced into the square hole that was a date, as his dormmate so nonchalantly suggested that they make this a double date which completely redefined the parameters of this excursion...and he wasn't sure he was here for it. "No," he said firmly, not wanting these other romantic expectations hanging over him. "You can join us, but no double date." He just wanted to enjoy time with, dare he say it, friends.
As for Ethan's question, he assumed the fact that they were in the queue for face painting would solve that riddle for him eventually.

He quite liked the idea of her and flowers, something he strongly associated with her for a plethora of reasons. Which reminded him that he was going to ask her about them maybe setting up a stand at a local farmers market he had seem some flyers for around London the other day. Try their budding business outside of Hogwarts. They would just need to find old shoes, which he was sure they could scrape up somewhere.
"I am very manly and tough," he winked, poking a bit of fun at himself in the process. "Perfecting the art of dying on stage in the midst of an strategically choreographed dance knife fight can have that effect."
Tapping his palm a bit more against her shoulder as he watched the Juggler a bit more, Baylen soon found himself shaking his head at her question. As much as that sounded like him, it was not something he had consciously put on his bucket list. "Never given juggling a go...but no time like the present." Her nudge was endearing in an 'oh look at you enabling me again' kind of way. Only his eyes were soon distracted by a stilt walker. "Something else I've never given a go." Pulling his eyes away from the performers to look at her proper. "Maybe if I don't make it on Broadway or West End I can find my second calling in being a carnie."

Internal Groan. She didn't want to pick something for him. But guess she had to now. She was waiting for him to pick something random and she would laugh at it. Simple, really. Fine Fine she would."A snake is too obvious...." Wait someone was talking to them now and another internal groan it was Manon.
WAIT...a DATE??????
"What...no. Just forcing him to get his face painted and then we can laugh"
Unless that counted as one....uh??

Date? Ethan looked between Manon and Eloise and Eiji, amused. Wait, was Eiji on a date with TWO girls?!? Honestly, if he was, colour Ethan Denton IMPRESSED. But Eloise seemed to brush it off quickly and Ethan grew amused.
"Why not make it a double date, at least. Even out the numbers," he grinned. "So what ya all getting? Balloon animals or face paintings?"

He could put up with this. It was just for today and fighting it would just take extra effort.

Manon only quirked her eyebrow some more. So apparently it wasn't a date. Riiiiiiiiiiight.
Except maybe—oh yeah, it WASN'T—especially when another fellow Slytherin was suggesting to 'even out the numbers'. Um, no thank you. And why do I supposedly end up with you? She wanted to say to Ethan but didn't because there was NO date here (her bad), this was just four (shudder) friends hanging out. And for the record, IF there was, she was taking Eloise.
Now, back to the business at hand. Eloise and Eiji were initially there to have the latter's face painted on? This was going to be a gem. They all could do that, except her. She didn't really want to spend the few galleons she had on an absurd idea as a face paint. But she would definitely want to get some fun out of that absurdity.
So Eiji mentioned earlier that a suggestion from her was welcome? Well, here's a concept. "Maybe you," she pointed a finger at Eiji, "can be a frog prince while Ethan here," Yes, you, Ethan. "can be a chimpanzee princess." Sounds about good?

"Snake would be a better option than one of a balloon Inferius"Shame he didn't grasp the irony or well maybe its not irony of the snake and him being a slytherin. But oh well. It didn't matter. Where did all these slytherins pop up from???? and why all in their year. It was like a conspiracy and all thinking they were on a date. It was too much for one Eloise Fairfield.
Ok, Ethan that was pretty fun. Dont think Manon is too well up for having a double date with anyone here. If anything if this was a double date and she had to think about it she would be with Manon and the two boys could be together.
Much more amusing that way.
"Well i was thinking both but it might be too much. So whatever you guys want sounds good. i like Manon's idea. Hmm...Manon should get a nundu on her face"
It was the only thing that seemed to fit her. Chimpanzee for Ethan and a Frog for Eiji, oh that was good!

"So talented," She mused, gaze shifting from Baylen to the crowd around them. No juggler or stilt walker could capture a crowd like he could when he was dancing, she was sure of it. Just as sure as she was that he was born to express himself through movement.
The brunette leaned into his touch, a smile playing on her lips at his words. "Only if you send me postcards from all the places you perform at and agree to wear some ridiculous costume as a part of your act." Because that's what she thought of when she thought of carnivals. There were bright colors and excitement and entertainment. "You could even get some neon in there without anyone complaining." He did like neon, didn't he?
Harper was also starting to wonder when and if she would get to see her friend. Of course they had talked about going to the carnival. Both of their families were going. It was very likely that would run into each other somewhere here.
Well that didn’t take long at all. Waving when she seen Valencia heading to the line to get her face painted too, ”I don’t know yet. Maybe the unicorn? It moves!” How cool was that? If the unicorn could move then couldn’t the other painted animals move too. She was going to have to ask. But she definitely did want some kind of animal.
