 Not far from the entrance of the fifth-floor corridor stands a statue of Boris the Bewildered. Even though there is a statue present in dedication to the man, not much is known about him these days. Just by looking at his expression, it appears that he is either very lost or someone just Confunded him. Though, perhaps, this observation will not come as a surprise to you. After all, the old man is wearing his gloves on the wrong hands.
Hopefully you are faring significantly better than the statue standing before you. In general the statue is used as a landmark for prefects and Quidditch captains, serving as a gentle reminder that their exclusive bathroom is just a few doors down. If you are not a student leader, however, the statue might be viewed as yet another of those silly things that reside inside the castle and be deemed as something not worth investigating further. Though, if you ever need a casual meeting place, Boris will always be there to help you out even if he hasn't got a clue who you even are.

Cathryn Webb was not lost. She merely did not know where she was at the current point in space in relation to the rest of space. She was fine, however. In all of her effort to make it to, well, somewhere, she had ended up here. Maybe she was looking to be right here, next to the weird statue of a man who looked, frankly, as confused as she was.
Really, though, the uncertainty should be appreciated. Encouraged. Celebrated, even. Who in their right mind would expect an eleven-year-old to know where they were in a brand new (to them), real, genuine, gigantic castle.
Cat stood on her toes, leaning in closer to the statue's face. He was wearing the wrong glove. She frowned to herself, tapping the statue's nose. Nothing happened. Not that she had really expected anything to happen, but she was at a magical school, and she was going to leave no stone unturned. She then attempted to tug at the statue man's glove, but it was (as expected) made of the same material as the actual (fake? Memorialized?) man. Cat rocked back and forth on her feet once before settling onto them more firmly and folding her arms across her middle.
Fine, she was done here. As soon as she could determine where to go next.

Letters to her sisters in hand, Aurora was slowly making her way to the owlery. Even with everything she needed to do, she was staying on top of writing to them.
As she made her way onto the fifth floor she paused as she saw a young girl tugging on the statue’s glove before giving up and seeming to not to know what to do next. Clearly she was a First Year, and this castle was huge and confusing. The moving staircases didn’t help. Offering the girl a smile she made her way over. ”Are you lost?” She figured that was likely the case. If so she would be more than happy to help her out. |

Was she lost? Cat glanced at the girl who had shown up out of the blue (or walked down the corridor like a normal person, who knew) and shrugged a shoulder. “No.”
The lie immediately felt wrong on her tongue. Cat sighed. “Okay, maybe a little.” Pause. “Or a lot.” With this, she finally turned to face the girl. She was pretty. Cat didn’t recognize her, either, but that didn’t say much since Cat knew, like, no one. “The thing is,” she said after a moment of scrutiny, “I don’t actually know where I’m trying to go.”

It seemed that the girl was a little hesitant to admit that she was lost. Aurora got it though. And honestly pretty much everyone got lost at least once when they were new to the school. It was huge and confusing. She herself had gotten lost more than once last term before she was fully familiar with the castle. That had been a part of her exploring.
Aurora nodded. "Well, how about we go for a walk. Maybe you can figure out where you want to go then." And Aurora could also show her around a little that way. The letters could wait. After a moment she added, "I'm Aurora by the way." | |

Cat gave one more glance toward the statue before determining that, yes, she was indeed done here. She figured (assumed) that if there was anything special about it, then the girl would have told her. That would be the fair thing to do, at least.
The girl, Aurora, had a good point. A walk would probably be helpful in determining where she wanted to go. Plus it would be nice to spend time with someone. Cat hitched her bag more comfortably onto her shoulder and nodded. “Okay, Aurora.” Cat smiled. “Where to?”
Cat was already starting off the way the girl had come from when she stopped in her track and turned fully to face her. “Oh, and I’m Cat.

Aurora beamed back at the younger girl, happy that she agreed to the idea. "Well, there are a lot of nice areas inside the castle, but we could also explore outside if you would rather do that." "I've mostly just been exploring in my free time," Cat said, once again starting down the hallway. "It's so hard to remember how to get to my common room. Why do the stairs move?" She glanced at Aurora, as if the girl could actually answer the question for her (did anyone actually know why the stairs moved?).
She shrugged in response to the question. "I love school. Hogwarts, though?" She sighed softly, silently debating how much to actually say to this stranger that she'd never met. She didn't want to be thought of as, like, incapable of being at this school or something. So, she backtracked and went for another option. "It's great. Really fun. It's just that I've been getting lost a lot." Which should be expected, right?

Aurora nodded. "I do that too. And some places here take a lot of exploring. Like the discovery garden." But she still didn't know if Cat wanted to stay inside the castle or go outside. But that was okay, they could figure it out. As it was, she walked alongside the younger girl. "Oh, I know where your Common Room is." So if she needed the reminder, Aurora could help her. She was aware of where all the other Common Rooms were, though she hadn't tried to get into any of them. Unlike her mother...
Why did the stairs move? Aurora thought about it. "I always thought it was a security thing. Or maybe just to add whimsy." She didn't remember reading about that in Hogwarts: A History, but she may just be misremembering.
So... she didn't seem to be enjoying Hogwarts much at the moment. That was a real shame, seeing as Cat would be attending school here for a long time. Hopefully she would warm up to the school more, to make the years at school better. Oh. Right. It was the whole getting lost thing. "Well, I'm happy to help you if you are lost at any point. And others will be as well. And in time you'll be able to find pretty much everything here - even with the moving staircases." Nod. | |
