“So let me get this straight. All you have to do is sit…wait a minute or three…then have a hat tell you what house you belong to?” What sort of unfair rubbish was that??? He wouldn’t believe it. Not for a second and not when the ritual was so much more daunting at Durmstrang. What he’d have given to put on a hat and save himself the after mark. Dax didn’t care what anyone else said, he could have been just as proud a Wolverine as anyone else while wearing a silly talking hat on his head, legit, he could.

78. Author’s Choice – Combat Tournament
The nerves were making his hand shake uncontrollably and as he’d come to realize, there was nothing to be done but sit on them to make them less noticeable. Couldn’t let Ariana see him shake, she’d only make sure everyone else on the team noticed too and he’d been doing a good job of pretending to be confident thus far—thanks to his best mate, Angelo, of course.
“Next we have Dax Sanders of Durmstrang and Kazimir Romanov of Koldovstoretz. Fighters to the platform.”
Dax rose slowly, giving a faint smile as his team cheered while praying he wouldn’t lose.

There was no changing Jazzy’s mind once it’d been set on something and when it was something as reckless as this, there was no hope of reaching that area in her head that was meant to be a brain.
“Wish me luck? Aren’t you coming?”
He watched her puff her cheeks, ready to protest or persuade but the boy simply turned over and pulled the covers over his head. “Nope, I’ll be here napping. Wake me if you survive.”

Dax was beyond dead. His mother was going to skin him alive when she got home and there was no one to blame but his cousin’s stooopid kneazle. How does one creature feel entitled to feast on 15 cute little furry creatures??? Naturally Dax couldn’t allow Felix to have a go at his sister’s babies but he should have figured the Jarvey wouldn’t have taken it so lightly. The living room was a battle zone and he wasn’t sure which of the two had won…

7. Care of Magical Creatures
“Mate, what d’you think you’re doing?” His friend asked, grabbing the creature from the bucket before it drowned.
“Failing, what’s it look like?” Dax replied, not particularly inspired to change course in this class. He didn’t know how to bathe a firecrab and wasn’t planning to get scorched on account of that thank you very much.
“You do know that if you fail CoMC you can’t take Dragon Taming next term, yeah?”
The 4th year shot his friend a rather incredulous look. “If I can’t handle a firecrab, what makes you think I’d let them put me with a dragon??”

“Because it’s creepy and weird and you hardly count as a girl.” You think that would have been obvious after all this time but apparently not? Dax mirrored the creasing of brows that now set on Jazzy’s face but he wasn’t budging on his stance.
“Why are you being such a rubbish bestfriend? I didn’t have to ask, you know, I could have just slipped him some amortentia.”
His lips parted but no words came out. It was times like these that reminded him that Jasmine had the potential to be the scariest half-female on the planet.

100. Homework
“Hey, a couple of us were gonna head down into the village for a while, you wanna come?”
“Nah, I’ll pass on this one.” He didn’t even have to think about it too long. Being allowed to leave the school didn’t make the means of leaving it any better and it was just a couple months ago that he did it last…more time was needed before he put himself through that trauma again. The looks they gave prompted him to explain further. “I’ve…uh…got a buttload of homework…that I’m er…super excited to start on.” So what if it was the weekend?

2. Muggle Studies
Muggle…Studies…?
As in…there was an entire subject dedicated to teaching about those magic-less people…? Dax wasn’t sold on it and quite frankly he was glad it wasn’t a subject they had to be bothered with at Durmstrang. Sounded like a waste if you asked him…although…if that class taught skateboarding then he’d be game. Muggles were the first skateboarders and he saw them at the skate park sometimes. Someone should teach THAT in school.
Unfortunately, it sounded more like switch flipping and uses of a rubber ducky…what even was that anyway and why would you make a duck out of rubber?

“I’ve heard they got a shop called the ‘Hog’s Head”
“Sure’d be nice to see somethin’ like that.”
“We could sneak over—”
“Don’t be stupid, that’s impossible without the Headmaster finding out and how would you get there?”
Dax sat quietly on his bed and watched his dormmates go back and forth about the ‘mystery’ that was Hogsmeade. “I’ve snuck there before.” He finally interjected. All conversation stopped and eyes fixed on him. A moment later, they all began pelting him with their pillows.
“You’re such a bloody Liar, everyone knows you’re too scared to hit the front gate.”

30. Feast
Alright, start of term feast! Believe it or not, Dax was actually excited to be back at school…if you forgot the fact he’d promised to stop skipping Dark Arts classes this year—but him and Pan had worked something out for that so he wasn’t too worried. The now Fourth Year slipped into the seat right next to his best mate Angelo and was already ready to be fed. Speeches were fine and all that but unless it pertained to his life, he always felt like maybe the Headmaster could hold off til they had something substantial in their stomachs.

41. Thestral
Dax had never seen a thestral and after hearing the criteria, he didn’t wanna. Let’s not even get into what they looked like. Bloody things sounded like they could spook the socks off death without trying. His cousin was no artist but he felt her sketch might have done it some justice.
Thankfully enough Dax wasn’t likely to witness death. The fact of the matter was that he was more inclined to bolt at the first sign of danger. If someone wanted to risk their life then all the power to them but he would never stick around to watch.

6. Divination
The older you got was the harder it was for you to get nap times in the middle of the school day. That, of course, was why Dax considered Divination to be such an invaluable class. Dark room, low murmurs, warm candle light, comfy cushions. There wasn’t a single person in the entire world that could convince him their Professor wasn’t creating the perfect break spot. Being the ‘seer’ she was, she could obviously see how exhausted they all were from taking real subjects and so he tried to thank her after every nap session. The woman was a saint.

“Reckon I’d like to date a Veela even once in my life. Imagine the most beautiful girl anyone’s ever seen wrapped around my arm.”
It was the topic of the lunch hour among some of his friends he’d made in his house and Dax could only shake his head. They didn’t know what they were saying. One of those for a girlfriend? Yikes.
For that he got a nudge. “You sayin’ you wouldn’t even after she bat those pretty eyelashes at you?”
“Nah mate, you’re forgetting that when they get angry they’re uglier than sin.” And vicious besides. No thanks.

“What’d you say me and you have a little duel? Say…midnight, out in the courtyard. We’ll settle this like men.”
Dax was marginally unimpressed. Duels were not allowed outside of the duelling club and DA, they were even less allowed after curfew when you were out on the grounds where you shouldn’t be. Besides, Dax wasn’t as quick with a wand as his fist and as a result would never concede to these terms.
“I’d rather you come over here right now so I can flatten you with my fists and we can get on with our lives.” For real.
