Mental Practices Hurt
Theme #20: Knitting Charm

“Ron, people are going to think you gone mental if you start in with the knitting hats and scarves.” Harry eyed his best friend suspiciously. Honestly, just because he was trying to impress their other best friend, didn't mean he had to partake in the same hobbies. What would Molly think of her son being a knitter? Oh scratch that, Molly would probably be thrilled by that.

“Blimey, Harry, it's for the benefit of the house elves. Can't you see that?” Ron stared incredulously back at his famous friend. “Just because you're too selfish and have everything doesn't mean you can't share!” Hands flew into the air for emphasis on the matter but quickly went back to the manual knitting.

“Ow.” Ron frowned. “Now look what you've done, you've made me prick myself!”

Harry stared. Ron could be so cold-hearted and cruel sometimes, it hurt. Shaking his head he stood up. “Fine, whatever. Do what you want, I'm going to go get a sandwich. But maybe you ought to try a knitting charm, rather than prick yourself from doing it the muggle way.” Tossing a book on 'A Guide to basic Knitting Charms' at Ron's chest, he left him sitting alone and disappeared out huffily.

Make it fly!
Theme #49: Wingardium Leviosa

“Look Harry! I made my bed!” Ron called back as he and his friend ascended the stairwell to the boys dormitories. “Mum would be proud.”

“Yea?” Harry asked questioningly. “What charm did you use?” But instantly regretted those words as they reached the platform. Yes, Ron's bed was indeed made for the first time that year... was it neatly, that was debatable. “Or rather what charm didn't you use,” Harry snorted.

“Not funny!” the redhead frowned throwing a pillow at the other boy. “It's not bad, right? I mean, be honest. You're my best friend.”

“Sure... except I'm pretty sure Dudley makes his bed better than that.” Harry shook his head. “Try this... 'Wingardium leviosa',” the black haired boy said, swishing and flicking his wand. The sheets and covers instantly lifted from his own four-poster, and Harry directed them with his wand to lay neatly on his bed.

“Wow! How'd you do that?” Ron stared in awe, popping a chocolate from Harry's chocolate cauldron box into his mouth.

Friends Steal Too
Theme #21: Langlock

“Did you just eat one of my chocolates?” Harry stared at his friend, his eyes flickering over to a new box of chocolate cauldrons on his pillow that wasn't there before quidditch practice. “Hmm... wait a second...”

“Schmeant schteelll schoo,” Ron mumbled through the mouthful of chocolatey goodness. Clearly he still had not gained decent mannerisms overnight.

Sitting on the bed, Harry ignored Ron and looked at the box and then the card attached. “Merlin. RON! Spit it out!” He exclaimed, the moment he read the name, Romilda Vane. Practically leaping forward onto his friend and tackling him to the ground, Harry attempted with fail to make Ron spit up the chocolate.

“Harrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy!!! Gerrooffff me!”

“Fine. Langlock!” Harry said, pointed his wand at his friend. “We are going to see Hermione about this.”

Oy. Romilda?
Theme #7: Confundus

The red-haired boy was in disbelief that his own best friend would actually HEX him so he couldn't speak anymore. Well fine then, he was just going to have to give death glares to so-called awesome boy-who-lived. More like Harry Potter was the boy-who-cursed his own best friend.

Hermione would give it to him though; she would know what to do. She always did. “Gheee hdee eet!” Ron managed to say through his tongue issues. Of course no one could understand him, unless you happened to be a legilmens.

“Harry! What happened? Oh Ron . . .” Hermione sighed and looked from one boy to the next. Honestly, she couldn't leave them alone for five minutes.

“Confundus perhaps,” Harry suggested, but Hermione just shrugged it off and reversed the spell.

Relieved, Ron wrapped his arms around Hermione for a brief second before shaking his head. “You know perfectly well it was NOT confundus, Harry. But … OH! Where's Romilda? I think I love her.”

Harry smacked his forehead with his hand.

Peanut Butter
Theme #19: Jelly Legs

“Oof! Harry!” Ron exclaimed as he hustled forward to catch up with his best mate. “Will you wait up please? What's the hurry anyway?”

With a quick furtive glance over his shoulder, Harry shrugged but didn't lessen his walking speed. “Get faster then. It will help your Keeper reflexes.” Because no Quidditch Captain wanted a SLOW Keeper guarding the hoops.

A breath of cold air emerged from Ron's lips. “My legs are numb. It's cold. They feel like jelly.”

“Quit your whining, Ronald,” Harry countered, rolling his eyes although the redhead was unable to see that. “Hagrid promised us cookies – peanut butter ones – which if we don't get there soon, then Fang is going to eat them all!” And then they'll have to resort to cooking up Ron's jelly legs in cookies.

Ugh. Seriously? Cookies from Hagrid? Harry Potter has definitely gone mental.

“Don't make that face Ron. Madam Rosmerta baked them.”

Well that changed things . . .

Sweet Revenge
Theme #47: Twitchy Ears Hex

Shoving yet another pumpkin pastie into his mouth, Harry glanced over at his freckled friend innocently. “What? I'm a growing boy! I need my energy!”

“And Hermione says I eat a lot...” Ron complained, setting his fork on his plate, his appetite seemingly dissipated. “So what's really got you going? New admirers? Voldypants?”

Swallowing the mouthful of sweets, Harry shook his head. Ron would never believe him if he told him. “None of that at all.”

“It's Malfoy then,” the redhead commented bitterly, glancing sourly over at the Snake table, before taking in Harry's expression. “It is. I know it.”

“Yes, but no.” Harry said, swallowing a large gulp of juice now. “Crabbe and Goyle … they …. they gave me a supposed calming draught because of how uptight I've been and ...” the gryffindor sighed, forcing himself to go on. “It was laced.” Nevermind with what. “Anyway, I got even. Notice how twitchy their ears are now....” Potter looked over at the two large boulders of snakes and grimaced.

Theme #48: Unbreakable Vow

“I don't get it,” Ron said nonchalantly, tilting his head sideways. “Why'd you do it?”

Harry stared back at his friend, amused. He wondered sometimes how it was that Ron could have grown up in a house full of magic and be so clueless! Absently picking at his teeth for a moment to pass some time, partly because he didn't feel speaking but also because he knew the longer the silence the more it'd kill Ron. Finally though, after a good minute, he spoke. “You don't get it. By making the unbreakable vow with Malfoy, I've ensured our safety while at Hogwarts.”

“You have? But if you break it.....”

“No!” Harry interrupted. “We... I won't break it. He might though.” But Harry knew as malicious as Malfoy was, he wouldn't be foolish enough to break the unbreakable.

Theme #50: Waddiwasi

“That's not even a real spell,” Hermione interjected, shaking her head disapprovingly at the boys. Honestly, boys were so foolish sometimes with their thoughts and creativity.

Harry chuckled. “But it IS real! Just because you don't think something isn't real, doesn't mean it's not, Hermione.”

“Yea.” Ron muttered in concurrence, as he swished his wand again. “Whaddiddosit!”

The black-haired teenager shook his head. “No, that's not real, Ron. Not even close to what I said.” Hermione was nodding now, behind a large textbook she'd buried her nose into. “Wait... Hermione, why are you reading that AGAIN?”

“It is a good read. You should read some, Harry. You might learn a thing or two.”

“Waddiwasi,” Harry murmured bitterly, but as he was gripping his wand still, he barely noticed he made something shoot out from a crevice between the wall and floor.

Choices
Theme #22: Legilimens

“There comes a time, when must choose between what someone knows and what someone wishes to know,” Albus said quietly glancing at the boy over the rim of his half-moon spectacles.

Harry frowned in confusion, as he scratched that into his parchment sheet. “But... wait... don't you believe me? These dreams are real!” He complained, wincing slightly as his scar itched again. Absently rubbing his forehead he looked up at his revered headmaster. “Besides... Ron is jealous.”

“Obviously. You have abilities to see things into Voldemort's actions and thoughts that others cannot.” the headmaster spoke again. “For reasons unknown, he marked you, Harry. But you should be cautious because what you see, he likely knows it too.”

“What if I don't WANT to be marked? What if I don't want ANY OF IT?” Harry was on his feet now. “Ron doesn't know what's like!”

Moving his arms up and down in calming motion, Albus shook his head. “Human nature gives us choices, Harry.”

Unjustifiable Deja Vu
Theme #23: Levicorpus

“My father was not the selfish prat YOU are!” Harry said, glaring at his Potions Master, who was picking on him once more. Ron elbowed Harry and made a sour face; he really wished his friend and Snape wouldn't get into such petty arguments during a lesson. Even if his treatment toward Harry was seemingly unjustified.

“Oh really? Do you've any idea of the humiliation James put me through?” Snape said, slapping his palms down on the desk as he spat into Harry's cauldron. “You weren't there. Your parents died when you were an infant. How could you know any of it?”

“Don't you say such things!” Harry glowered back, rising from his seat and matching Snape's beady gaze. Why did people always have to speak of his parents death like it didn't matter? Like he wasn't damaged growing up with his mother's sister.

“Detention, Potter.” Snape spat sternly. “Perhaps letting you hang upside down from a midair for an hour and having half the school see your undergarments would teach you some mannerisms.”

Turn on the light!
Theme #24: Lumos

“It's simple, Ron,” Harry stated, rolling his eyes at his buddy. “Lu-mos. Just think of it like the bathroom plus the thing that thrives in wet areas, such as the bathroom.”

Ron blinked. “Blimey. Seriously, Harry. Must you so direct. I know what the spell is, but I can't help it that my wand is broke.”

Looking at the ginger-haired wizard's pathetic wand, Harry couldn't help but laugh. It wasn't funny; any wizard knew that, but to a twelve old, the situation remained undoubtedly funny.

“Oh Ron. If you know the spell, then just try it out. What's the worst that could happen?” Actually, it was the worst that Harry feared.

“Fine. Loo-mos!” Ron said, flicking his wand. Just like expected, the spell backfired and green moss started growing from Ron's chin. Not that one could tell from the darkness of the boy's dormitory. “Haaarrryyyy...” Ron stammered nervously.

“Lumos,” Harry muttered, as a soft white glow appeared in front of him. “Oh, Ron. Looks like a trip to the healer is in order.”

Off to see the Healer!

Lysol!
Theme #25: Mobilicorpus

“This won't hurt, Ron....” Harry scolded, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. Honestly, sometimes he preferred the annoying, yet brilliant-minded company of Hermione. At least she wasn't like a two year old.

Ron winced and stuttered. “Haaarr-rryyy... Ohhh....kaaaay.”

“Oh Ron. Stop acting like a child. You're worse than your Aunt Muriel.”

At that comparison, Ron nodded and closed his eyes, willing Harry to get on with it. First using the body-bind charm, then a quick “Mobilicorpus” Harry carefully maneuvered his best friend out of the common room and down the stairwells toward the Hospital Wing.

Surely Madam Pomfrey would know what to do about the green moss on the redhead's chin. And Harry was sure usage of some Muggle Lysol cleaner was not the answer.

Truth in the Sky
Theme #26: Morsmordre

The moment they entered the Hospital Wing, Harry knew something wasn't right. He was sure of it judging from the look on the nurse's face. Of course she was used to seeing them here; between quidditch injuries and just natural tendencies to find trouble, they were amongst some of the regulars to visit this area of the castle. But the look on Pomfrey's face wasn't one of shock or disbelief, rather concern. Not for them, no. Something interior.

“Madam Pomfrey....” Harry absently touched his forehead; an action that only confirmed the fear that the nurse held within. “It's true then?”

The sincerity in her tone overtook the fear. “I'm afraid so, Mister Potter. Another death has taken place.” Not far from them if the visions were true of the green light in the sky which only exists from the spell cast by a Death Eater.

Guilty as stew
Theme #27: Muffliato

Glancing up from the stew he had been chewing on for the last five minutes, as Harry strode in, Ron had this guilty look. “What?” He mumbled through a mouth full.

“Ron. Wasn't that the stew your mum was preparing for Christmas dinner?”

“Was it?” Ron swallowed. “I was starved Harry! I'm a growing boy!”

Harry shook his head, taking the seat opposite from his best mate. He knew Mrs. Weasley would kill Ron when she found it; and she would, as Molly always had a knack for finding these things out.

….

Just ten minutes later, Harry was standing over Ron by the sink as he scrubbed his bowl, when Molly walked in. “Ronald Weasley! What are you doing?!” She shrieked, before turning to Harry. “Oh and hello, Harry, glad to have you here, as always.”

Back to Ron, “No talking from you for one hour.” Flicking her wand, she cast muffliato on her son, as she turned back to Harry and reached forward and gave him a hug.
