Loyal and Brave.
That had been two things that the Sorting hat had called them their first year. A Gryffindor and a Hufflepuff, sorted without any hesitation. And remarkably, it had been a pretty correct description of them even then. They had been through a lot over the years and not only were they examples of their respective houses, but of the others as well. Smart, at the top of their point boards and not entirely without cunning at times.
All and all…well rounded.
There was one thing it hadn’t called them that fateful first day of Hogwarts…

Adi slowly stood up from where he had ducked at the first sounds of danger. Looking beside him, it was clear that Benny hadn’t been so lucky in the noticing and the moving. For there was one poor Gryffindor covered in the gooey remains of his messed-up potion. He might have laughed if not for the sad look on his best friend’s face and the scowl on the professor’s.
Instead, he simply conjured a cloth and gingerly wiped Benny’s face of the mess. The fabric now filled with gross ooze that he just vanished away.
“Thanks…” the lion said, sighing.

This was it.
Today was the day.
From now on they would truly be one.
Aditya Rehman…Benjamin Atreyu.
Forever and always Adi and Benny Atreyu-Rehman.
Dark brown eyes met deep blue as they starred at each other while someone somewhere was saying something that probably was important. Family and friends who couldn’t be identified at the moment surrounding them filled with a joy that was only surpassed by that of the couple who only had eyes and attention for each other.
Finally two voices were speaking the same two little words that changed their lives for all time.
“I do.”

“Hey!”
Benny slapped Adi’s hand away from his plate, just barely missing saving a chip from the Hufflepuff’s grasp. The food quickly disappearing into his mouth. “You did have your own plate.”
“But I’m still hungry.”
He starred at him, sad eyes greeting him in response. “Fine…” the Gryffindor gave in, pushing his plate closer to his best friend gaining a one-armed hug as thanks.
“My dragon is so good to me.”
“It’s self-preservation…” Benny replied in his defense after swallowing his own bite, “…you’re dangerous when you’re hungry.”
Adi just stuck out his tongue before eating another purloined chip.

“I wonder if there’s a spell…” Adi wondered curiously as he looked off into the distance.
“Hmmm?” A voice came from behind the textbook situated across the laden library table.
“…or maybe a potion?” The Hufflepuff mused, digging through the nearest book on the subject.
“What are you going on about?” Benny asked, lowering his own book slightly to look at his best friend.
“Um…nothing. I’m just speaking aloud about an assignment.”
“Oh really?” Cue eyebrow raise from the Gryffindor.
“I want to make you yodel.”
Thankfully Adi was fast enough to avoid the book that half-teasingly came his way.

“Please Adi…you don’t want to bite me…” The Gryffindor once more backing up into the smoke-filled room. Okay so maybe he did…maybe he was still really mad at him, but Benny didn’t think he deserved to be hunted down like a rabbit.
“Sure you don’t need a Snickers?” The sixth year almost wishing it was that easy since the look on the other boy’s face was keeping him from focusing on the spell they were supposed to be using. Supposed to be learning in this class.
And right…for once food was the reason they were in this predicament.

“What are you doing…math?
“Arithmancy,” Adi corrected, lowering his oen, “My family name number is 5”
Benny looked at the textbook for reference, “Free spirit and a risk taker…fits you to a T.” He then takes up the pen and does his own out of curiosity. “Mine is 4.”
“Cautious and hardworking…big surprise,” Adi remarked with a chuckle. “How about this?” he muses, rewriting the names together and doing more addition and reduction. “I get 5 there too.”
“Just confirms it…” Benny mused with a smirk, gaining a quizzical look from his other half so he continued.
“…you corrupted me.”

The thing to be constantly aware of when dealing with dragons, their propensity for breathing fire, especially when annoyed and his classmate had just pushed it’s buttons. Except HE wasn’t near it’s head….Benny was…with nowhere to go when it showed signs of causing trouble. Quick as he could, he cast a spell and braced himself for the onslaught.
“BENNY!” Adi yelled from the sidelines, as the flames rolled over his boyfriend. The young man breathing a sigh of relief as it seemed he was okay once the dragon had stopped breathing fire. “You okay?”
“Thank Merlin for the Fire-freezing spell.”

“Ugh…there should be a rule how big and heavy books are allowed to be,” Adi mused as he dropped more than placed the book they needed for their latest assignment on the library table with a thud.
“Could be worse…” Benny mused looking up at him from his notes.
“There are bigger books in this library?” the Hufflepuff questioned as he rubbed his back like he had truly hurt himself.
“Have you not seen Hogwarts A History? “ the Gryffindor remarked, “Should have definitely been made into more than one volume by now.”
“Let’s hope this one's at least relevant.”

Benny slipped on his gloves for the lesson, feeling just a touch odd about them for some reason.
“The dragon is gaining his scales,” Adi mused with a chuckle and gaining a frown from his bestie. “What’s wrong?”
“Doesn’t it feel odd…” Benny mused, “Caring about creatures and using things made from their hide?”
“I assure you, Mr. Atreyu,” Professor Bentley began having overheard as she checked on the students,”The hide comes from dragons that have died of natural causes. Most after long lives.”
“So no harm comes to any dragons, to protect Benny Dragon,” Adi said with a smile.

“So where to first?” Benny questioned as they reached the village. With all the studying they had been doing for their OWLs, they deserved this trip away from the castle. “And don’t you dare say Honeydukes.”
“Wha----why do you set that limit,” Adi remarked with a pout at his bestie. The sweet shop obviously being one of his all-time favorite places.
“Because I’d like to spend some time having fun where you aren’t on a sugar high.”
The Hufflepuff stuck out his tongue at Benny. “Nuh uh. It would be more fun then”
“Only for you, my dear Adi.”

24. House Elf
They had missed dinner having been holed up in the library studying for their OWLs. A testament to their distraction given Adi’s bottomless stomach. However, said stomach eventually made its presence known stopping their studying for the night and realizing the time.
“Guess it’s the kitchens tonight,” Adi mused as they saw the empty Great Hall, moving further downstairs in search of some food They were greeted by the diminutive staff enthusiastic to help them out with leftovers complete with warm cookies for dessert, especially Master Aditya.
“Now you see why I love having a common room near the kitchens.”

Hippogriffs shed.
Hair from its horse’s mane and feathers like the average raptor. So, when one co-owned a dragon and hippogriff reserve, one could collect quite a few over time. And Scribulous was fond of having sources for said feathers and open to deals.
“Open it,” Benny said, handing over the box he had wrapped for Adi’s birthday, waiting to see his other half’s reaction.
“Okay…okay,” Adi said with a laugh at excitement, opening the box and getting surprised with a bouquet of a dozen hippogriff quills. “Benny…how? Knowing how expensive they were.
“Let’s just say I have my ways."

“I have something I think you should try,” Adi remarked, holding out a small rectangular object with what looked like wires sticking from it as they walked on the campus.
Benny looked at it curiously as he accepted it. “What is it?”
“An ipod…you put these here,” the former Hufflepuff instructed, taking the things attached to the wires gingerly into his boyfriend’s ears. “And press there,” pointing to one of the buttons.
The former Gryffindor did as was suggested, only to be pleasantly greeted by one of his favorite songs playing in his ears. “That’s cool!”
