25. Sorting Hat

Loyal and Brave.

That had been two things that the Sorting hat had called them their first year. A Gryffindor and a Hufflepuff, sorted without any hesitation. And remarkably, it had been a pretty correct description of them even then. They had been through a lot over the years and not only were they examples of their respective houses, but of the others as well. Smart, at the top of their point boards and not entirely without cunning at times.

All and all…well rounded.

There was one thing it hadn’t called them that fateful first day of Hogwarts…

49. Yule Ball

“So nice of them to host a nice party for our anniversary,” Adi remarked about the winter formal the University was holding. The former badger chuckling as he tried adjusted the collar of his boyfriend’s dress robes to his annoyance.

“Well it does help we chose to start our relationship ON Christmas,” Benny commented with a bemused laugh of his own. The dragon swatting away Adi’s hands. “I’m good.”

Adi finally took the hint and motioned to the ballroom. “Shall we?”

“Of course…” Benny agreed, slipping an arm in Adi’s as they headed inside.

Happy Christmas and Anniversary to them.

52. Bore

He couldn’t read another page…another word.

Benny was through studying and got up to venture into the kitchen where the boyfriend and Lux were brewing something. “Hey guys,” he greeted, taking a seat at the counter. “What are you working on?” he asked, absently popping a lemon-looking treat from a bowl. Yes…he was bored enough to be interested in potions.

The potions duo looked up as they were joined, trying not to chuckle as he took a candy.

“Well…you’ll find out…” Adi said, gingerly pulling him towards the hallway mirror just as the smoke started billowing out of his ears.

18. Whomping Willow

You're the one acting like an improperly greeted hippogriff!

Adi took that for the compliment it wasn’t meant as. But then who was Benny to judge. HE was the one letting HER follow him around. HE was the one getting kissed by HER. HE was the best friend being pulled away from him and not seeming like he really minded it.

“How about JERK…because that’s what you are,” Benny yelled, clearly angry, before storming off.

Adi snorted stubbornly and headed back the way he had come. His solitude was fine by him from now on. He didn’t need Benny anyway.

84. Angry

“Mother how could you!”

Adi’s voice rang out as he returned home, the hurt from the woman’s words to Benny pushed aside in favor of defending his boyfriend.

“You will not use that tone…” Indira spoke firmly once they were in the same room.

“I can and I will,” the former Hufflepuff remarked just as stubborn. “Benny and I are dating and that’s that.”

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Fine…but the truth won’t go away by you just ignoring it.” Adi storming to his room in a huff, quite ready to finish packing and move out.

To Benny’s.

53. Chase

“Come here, you little bugger,” Benny called after a certain dark-haired boy.

“I don’t think that’s working.” The toddler in question still scampering away from his father as he tried to grab him.

“So much energy…he must be your son,” the younger man teased his husband.

“To think you wanted 4 children,” Adi remarked, the girls thankfully with the grandparents while Raj actually encouraged his brother’s antics in between page turns.

“And you wanted more,” Benny reminded him. “And I talked you out of the cricket team,” he added, gaining a snort in response.

“That’s why you’re the smart one.”

81. Depression

Benny could see them. Could see him.

He wasn’t blind.

Laughing and having fun in class after class. Adi certainly didn’t seem to be hurting from not having him around. Not like he himself was for not having the badger around. And when his best friend…former best friend…deigned to talk to him, all it did was made him more hurt by the words coming out of his mouth towards him.

Angel didn’t get it.

AJ couldn’t get involved lest she be caught in the middle.

All there was was one lone Gryffindor dragon sinking further into sadness.

He was alone.

38. Patronus

“Come on Benny…you can do it,” Adi encouraging his boyfriend who was trying to get his patronus to finally appear whole. It was close but still fading away all to quick.

Benny wrinkled his nose at the latest failure. He had really thought he had had it. He closed his eyes as he tried to focus on a happy memory. A happy memory he felt was strong enough to actually work for him. It certainly made him feel all warm and gooey inside, his lips turning into a smile without his even knowing it.

“Expecto PaTRONUM!!”

57. Goblin

“Yes…?”

Adi and Ben exchanged glances as they approached the counter at Gringotts, the goblin staring down at them without feeling. “We’d like to adjust our vaults,” Benny remarked, placing his key on the polished stone surface between them. “…make them one,” Adi added in further explanation as he added his own key into the mix.

It was the goblin’s turn to look between them as if trying to judge them for worthiness. “Names on the account?” he questioned, seemingly satisfied.

“Aditya and Benjamin Atreyu-Rehman,” the matching rings present on the almost new-newlyweds’ left hands.

Their first official act together.

34. Parseltongue

“I think it would be cool…”

“What would?”

“Being a parselmouth,” Adi explained, lowering the textbook he had been reading.

“Really?” Benny questioned, looking at his friend curiously.

“Yeah…to actually be able to talk to an animal. To know what was going on in their heads.” The statement garnering a nod in agreement.

“You mean you can’t already?” Benny teased, earning a pillow sent his way hitting him. “Ach…I’m hurt. The dark wizard has wounded me!”

Cue laughter between the two before Adi managed to speak. “Yeah…that’s the part I’m not sure of.“

Why did parselmouths tend to be bad?

89. Past

“Excuse me?”

Benny looked up from writing to find a Hufflepuff classmate trying to get his attention. “Um…yeah?” he questioned quietly, wondering what was up.

“Can you pass the box?” Adi asked, pointing to the supplies the professor had been passing around the classroom. It had been sitting on the Gryffindor boy’s desk for a few minutes without him obviously noticing it.

Benny followed the point, noticing the box for the first time and becoming embarrassed. He quickly took what he himself needed before awkwardly handing it to the other boy.

“Thanks,” Adi said before returning to his own table.

77. Cheerful

The scores were close…real close.

The Barnton Basilisks and the Hereford Hippogriffs both seemed to have really good luck today.Two players shot off their shooters for the latest rounds. Both teams and spectators, including Benny, anxiously awaiting to see where each of them stopped within the circle.

Adi’s gob eventually came closer to the center giving the Hippogriffs another couple of points and pushing them ahead of their opponents. “GO ADI!” Benny cheered his boyfriend from the sidelines. What better way to celebrate a first professional match than to win it? The dragon was certainly rooting for that to happen.

4. Ancient Runes

The last thing Adi expected to be doing during a Runes lesson was looking for a red crab named Sebastian for King Botros. While also trying to keep an eye on Benny.

Excuse me…the Mad Hatter.

The bestie was certainly acting out of sorts like other had been. “You and Dormouse okay?” he asked, playing along with Gus’ new role in the grand scheme of things.

The Mad Hatter looked confused as he carried the toad in his hands while floating. “I seem to have forgotten which way to go. “

“Come on then…” Adi grabbing his hand to lead.

28. Time Turner

Benny couldn’t get his mind around the last essay question, sitting frustrated at the table. Distracted, he hadn’t noticed Adi come up behind him.

“Something wrong?”

“Just stuck on a question.”

Adi looked over his boyfriend’s shoulder to read through the assignment, snorting in response causing a curious look from Benny. “You mean you can’t pick something you’d change with a time turner?”

“No…” the dragon admitted, “I’m drawing a complete blank.”

Adi chuckled leaning in close to whisper, “Well I wouldn’t mind having more time in love with you,” before leaving him alone.

And Benny blushing in his wake.

32. Common Room

“Wonder where this leads?” Adi mused to Benny. The two followed the group down the mysterious staircase with lighted wands. “Me too…” the Gryffindor agreed, “they’ve been random.”

It turned out he knew where it led, the passage alighting before the familiar entrance of the Hufflepuff common room.

Maybe he could finally bring Benny inside, Adi mused to himself, even as he exchanged glances with the bestie. Purely for reasoning of mapping things of course.

Wink Wink.

“Sorry Mr. Atreyu…you’ll have to stay out here,” the professor said, putting an end to that idea as if reading his mind.

Bummer.

87. Staircase

“You can do it!

Benny was beginning to have doubts, unlike the enthusiastic hippogriff on his back. Carrying him on open ground like during their occasional walks was on thing. This time…THIS…was a whole lot of different.

“Just five more to the landing,” Adi remarked, obviously trying to make him feel like it wasn’t that far now. “You can do it, Dragon.”

“So you say,” the dragon mused as he took the latest step. Benny making sure he was balanced and solid before trying for another. “You made this look easy carrying me. Sure I’m the heavy one?”

“Har… har.”

90. Present

Movie Night!

With Azura with friends, they had the apartment to themselves, so it was a perfect time. Just the two of them. “So what movie should we watch?” Benny asked as he retrieved the popcorn from the microwave, emptying it into a bowl.

“It’s a surprise…” Adi teased, looking over from his spot on the sofa as it loaded up.

“So it’s already decided on, hmmm?” he mused as he came to take his own seat on the couch beside him.

“Yep…and you’re stuck,” the hippogriff remarked with a smirk.

“Aren’t I always…” Benny teased back, snuggling against him.

95. Snowball

Adi was glad he had convinced the usual non-winter-liking Benny to join him in building a snowman. “Relax, Dragon…it’s fun!”

Benny had to admit to himself even he wasn’t minding the activity, though he wasn’t quick to tell the other boy that. And it did help he was happily bundled up against the cold that tested his cold-blooded patience like he was a real reptile.

They had gotten the rolled balls done and stacked precariously before getting to work on adding the face.

“What do you th---Adi?” Benny looked around for his bestie confused.

SPLOSH!!!

Cue one wet back.

59. Ignore

If Benny thought he was favoring Henric instead of him, Adi was going to show him. His fellow Hufflepuff would have all his time and attention. Or at least seem to the dragon that he did.

Adi couldn’t help it. His bestie had ruffled his hippogriff feathers with his mistrust. Awoken his snake side towards him with a vengeance.

Didn’t he see that HE was still his BESTIE?

Henny was just a good friend, not replacing him?

Well now he was going to SEE Adi pay no attention to him. Then maybe he’d be smart enough to tell the difference.

99. Trunk

With some downtime between his first classes, Benny had decided to go through his belongings to settle in. So clearing his robes from atop his trunk, he opened it up only to be greeted by a surprise.

“Seems like Adi mixed up our trunks, Conrad,” the Gryffindor mused to the owl perched near the window. A bundle of sweets tossed on top pf his books. “Silly Hippogriff…You would think all the red and gold would have been a dead giveaway,” he added with a chuckle as he handed it over to the owl.

“Best return this to Mr. Sweet Tooth.”

93. Chicken

Chicken…

…and chicken.

…and more chicken.

“So if I essentially learn to make chicken in every single possible way, I would have you wrapped around my finger, hmm?” Benny mused as he looked over the recipe book they had found. A book lovingly marked by Adi in all the things he liked or would like to try.

“Pretty much” Adi remarked with a nod. “Not that you don’t already.”

“Just made more exclusive by the properly prepared poultry,” the dragon commented with raised eyebrow at his other half.

“Sure doesn’t hurt…” the hippogriff meeting his boyfriend’s gaze with equal expression.

97. Dictionary

“Hey look, Benny,” Adi remarked, trying to get his best friend’s attention as they studied together. “I found mention of us in here.”

Benny turned up from his work only to see the Hufflepuff looking through the dictionary. “Oh really…?" He asked a cross between confused and amused. “Under friends?”

“Nope…this word,” he corrected, pointing out what he had found as he had been randomly thumbing through the reference tome.

“Con-cin-itty?” the lion tried sounding out as he read the word entry.

“Yep…” Adi confirmed with a smile on his face, “a perfect blending of a hippogriff and a dragon.”

2. Muggle Studies

“I’m Batman…” Adi tried out with a false deep voice as he turned to Benny beside him. The boy having so much fun with the lesson topic.

“Oh really?” Benny questioned quietly as they studied superheros with Professor Moxley. “I thought you were Aditya Rehman, also know as Hippogriff.”

“That’s just my secret identity…” Adi remarked, “Bruce Wayne was getting so boring.” The badger acting all nonchallant about the given information.

The Gryffindor was amused, deciding to play along for his bestie, even as he struggled to not laugh.

“Well then your secret’s safe with me, Batm---I mean Adi.”

61. Kiss

Adi didn’t know what to think.

Benny had managed to silence him and then keep him speechless and confused with one word. In another time he might have said he was proud of his bestie but there were other matters on the table. Like the elephant in the room between them that clearly made the dragon nervous and distraught. Adi tried to speak…tried to make them both feel better but in the end there was one thing to do. Something he did without much of a thought.

The badger stepped toward the Gryffindor, took his face, and joined their lips.

30. Feast

Orange was definitely the theme of the evening’s gathering as Adi and Benny walked into Great Hall for the Autumn Feast. It was everywhere, from floor to ceiling, even before one took in all the pumpkins engorged for the decorations. Who was responsible for it and what exactly were they thinking?

“Is this what your paradise looks like?” Benny asked his friend turning to him, trying not to let the brightness hurt his eyes.

“A good start for sure,” Adi agreed with a smirk, clearly pleased with his surroundings as he walked further inside.

“Remind me to wear sunglasses then.”

22. Kneazle

Benny traipsed along the campus between classes. It only a few minutes of walking to realize it had a shadow. A very FELINE shadow.

“Shoo!” he said, waving his hands to try to get the cat to scram. Instead it only seemed to get closer to him causing the young man to back away. Sighing he continued along his way, the tabby following only faithfully. Until he was greeted by a growl and his companion suddenly became a dog. The cat running away in fright and Adi laughing as Benny returned human again.

“Guess its never seen an animagus before.”
