Just, Loyal & True: 100 Drabbles on Helga Hufflepuff by Keredwel - Sa13+ Yaharr! Welcome to my 100 Helga Hufflepuff drabbles. I believe Helga is a character that often goes unnoticed; we forget her in the shadow of Gryffindor and Slytherin and Ravenclaw. These drabbles are aimed at bringing justice to our dear Helga. So without further ado, let's begin! ________________________ 1. Herbology Helga loved to take naps in the greenhouses. Her particular favourite was greenhouse fourteen, where the fruit-bearing plants grew. It was late May and the weather was unusually sunny and warm, causing drowsiness even amongst professors. Helga, who taught Herbology, stayed back after the last class before lunch and let the students dribble out of the greenhouse. When they were gone, she kneeled down onto the earthy floor, crawled underneath a table bearing pots of Skittering Satsuma trees and closed her eyes. The musky scent of soil mixed with the spicy tang of fruit, cradling her into a warm sleep. |
Hmm.. perhaps I'll try to do these in order. 2. Muggle Studies "I have already laid my foot down on this matter. No!" "But Salazar, how can you possibly say this would be an invaluable subject? Godric, Rowena and I all agree that raising awareness of Muggles would be a great help to our students later on in life. Muggle Studies would prepare the children for the Muggle world and make them more acceptive of our non-magical brethren." "We are already short on professors, we couldn't possibly squeeze in another subject. And making us more acceptive? Forgive me, my dear Helga, but it is not us who are burning Muggles in big bonfires." |
3. Transfiguration It was a spotlessly grey day. The sky seemed to constist of one vast, solid block of grey cotton, subduing all light. "Oh, this weather is turning the whole castle into one big sea of slumping backs," Helga huffed. So before dinner that evening she sneaked down into the Great Hall and started to weave her magic into the ceiling, transfiguring the usual cloud. The monochrome parted to reveal rainbows; in one end of the ceiling a sun set, and in the other a violet sky of twilight appeared. A light wind sent the sunset-pink and orange swirling and spiralling. |
4. Ancient Runes "What on earth do you think you're doing?" Helga ran towards a bunch of students crouching close against the base of the castle wall. The huddle rippled and turned around. "If you were vandalising school property.." she began. One of the students, a Ravenclaw with an upturned nose, stepped forward. "We were just studying the moss patterns on the wall, professor." "Really? Scoot over then, this must be interesting." The students reluctantly parted to reveal the wall behind them. "Indeed. I am curious to know what kind of plant spells bogies in ancient runic all on it's own accord?" |
