She peered inside the room.
Her parents and her sister Jackie sat in front of a stranger. There was something weird about this person. He had a black pointed hat on despite the heat, was carrying an old-fashioned bag, and there was a snowy-white owl perched on his shoulder, hooting every now and then.
He also had a letter in his hand. She could see Jackie's name scribbled on the thick envelope. He was speaking in a low voice while her family members listened with wide eyes.
She caught the words “Bo-batton, witch, magic.”
That certainly got Amy Harrington’s attention. |

Muggles. That was what the shopkeeper called Mr. and Mrs. Harrington. Amy read that that was the word indicating non-wizards, but it still felt weird, as if she was in a completely different world from her parents.
She looked towards the adults, a worried look apparent in her eyes. To her surprise, the girl found them wandering around excitedly, looking at magical displays outside shops, gasping at the amazing items.
“Dad, do I have to learn magic?” Amy asked. Her father said, smiling, “Don’t worry, sweetie. Witch or not witch, you are still my daughter. I am proud of you.”

She ran her fingers through the rows of books stacked neatly on the countless shelves absent-mindedly. That was when a thick book dropped to the ground with a "BAM"! Three dozen heads turned towards her, annoyed expressions on their faces. She mumbled an apology, blushing, then picked up the book.
A moving black-and-white picture of a man shooting football-sized ball through a hoop was on the page. He was actually flying. Amy watched and watched until the man started repeating the same movements over and over again.
She closed the book shut. She was not interested in this game... Quidditch.

Amy struggled to lift her new cauldron up. Standard Size 2 Pewter Cauldrons like hers did not weigh much. However, after her other supplies were safely piled up inside, it was a lot different.
She gave the cauldron a tug. Nothing happened. She pushed, pulled and shook it. She did everything she could think of that would move her cauldron, but not one technique worked.
Maybe the best way would be to ask an adult for help. Amy walked into a nearby sweetshop, which was crowded with people purchasing amazing-looking sweets.
She spotted cauldrons in the shop too. Cauldron cakes.

You walk into the wand shop nervously, as it is time to get your very first wand. You make your way past the cozy area with comfortable-looking chairs, past the corners and shelves filled to the brim with wand boxes, and finally enter the wide wand fitting area.
After a magical measuring tape zooms around you and measures your height, arm length and even the size of your foot, you eagerly head to the shopkeeper, who bends underneath the counter and takes out stacks of boxes.
The wand chooses the wizard. Nine inches willow with unicorn hair core chooses you.

A long shriek echoed through the house early in the morning. Amy ran out of her room, still barefoot and in her pyjamas. Jackie walked out slowly after her, a grin stretched across her face. She was stroking her pet Kneazle, a magical creature which simply looked like a big ugly cat to the younger girl.
“Please don’t tell me you are afraid of kneazles, Amy,” Jackie said with a smirk. “I don’t want a coward as a sister.” She strolled away, satisfied. Waking up next to a dangerous creature was definitely not an ideal way to start the day.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Nicole Madeline Holloway Second Year | 99. Trunk
Amy stacked her History of magic Textbook carefully inside her trunk on top of her gloves. She sat on her bed, looking at the trunk. She was both afraid and eager to start her education in Beauxbatons. A wondrous palace in who-knows where, hundreds of students chatting away, and meals in the dining chamber accompanied by choirs. Amy did not know if she could deal with all that. The fact that Jackie was going to be with her did not reassure her one bit.
The thirteen-year-old tossed in a blue sweater into her trunk and shut it firmly. She sighed.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Nicole Madeline Holloway Second Year | 87. Staircase
Passers-by could tell at one glance that Amy did not truly belong in the group of first-years making its way up the staircase. She was taller than most of them and looked older too, a distinction that rarely happened with same aged people. She walked at the back of the group, which did not stop the curious glances coming from the younger students.
That was when the staircase started moving with a shudder. Three dozen hands shot for the handrails, while a couple of first-years fell down. Amy, who had managed to keep her balance, rushed to help them up.

The Dining hall looked splendid. It had long tables where several older students sat chatting. The tables were filled with shiny silver plates and cutlery. At the entrance of the new students, a hundred faces turned around to look at them. The excitement welled up in Amy disappeared, and was immediately replaced by nervousness.
As she settled down in her seat, a professor stood up from his throne-like chair. “Good evening, everybody,” he said with an unusually loud voice from the top of the hall. He was the man who had delivered Jackie’s acceptance letter four years ago. The headmaster.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
Amy mumbled quietly as she walked through the hallway. This was a poem she had read from a book. She liked it because of the sounds they made as they tumbled out of her mouth. Even though most of the words did not make any sense, she could understand the exciting story plot of the poem.
Too focused in her own world, Amy walked right into an elderly Professor. “Be careful, Ms. Harrington,” she said with a frown.
