22. LEGILIMENS
A tall, thin, pale man sat in a winged armchair, a great snake coiled around his shoulders. He gazed upon a sallow-faced man with greasy locks of hair hanging about his face, and the snake hissed. As Lord Voldemort rolled his wand between his fingers he took the time to think. Snape was an accomplished Occlumens… would he be able to shield his memories, his thoughts from the greatest wizard in the world?
Doubtful. Nobody could fool the great Lord Voldemort, and, cautious as he usually was, the man was sure of this.
“You returned to me tonight, Severus,” came the cold, high voice of Voldemort, his snake-eyes staring straight at Snape, who stood confidently. “You stayed at your post, but did you stay loyal?”
Lazily pointing his wand at Snape, Voldemort felt that rush of pure power and he grinned an evil grin; he could kill the man before him in a heartbeat. “We shall soon find out. Legilimens!” he added sharply, the words of the spell harshly contrasting with his sly conversational tone, though it was clear that both voices held absolute danger.
And thanks to that spell, Lord Voldemort saw that a faithful servant stood before him.

39. SECTUMSEMPRA
“My Lord… Draco has been injured… he-”
A pair of red snake-like eyes turned onto Severus Snape, who was attempting to tell of how Draco Malfoy had been injured. This was dangerous territory… Lord Voldemort wanted this job done by Draco, but he was always betting on Draco getting hurt or killed, as revenge on the Malfoy family.
“How?” the monster said simply, steepling his fingers as he regarded Severus closely.
“It… it was the Sectumsempra spell…” Snape said, not bothering to hide his apprehension. No point hiding things from Lord Voldemort.
“One of yours?” Voldemort hissed, and neither was sure whether or not he meant to speak like that at all. Severus nodded his head. Voldemort looked away.
“It… it was Potter.”
At this, Voldemort looked at Snape with fury. “He knows your spells?” he hissed, and this time it was definitely intentional. Severus bowed his head, and Voldemort unleashed his rage. No way could the order know of that spell. That was a secret weapon. SECRET!
But he didn’t want to kill Snape. He knew this man would be the one to finish off Dumbledore. Severus Snape got off easy, and left Voldemort to stew in his rage.

4. BLASTING CURSE
Knock, knock, knock.
It was not advisable to keep Lord Voldemort waiting. In fact, it was a phenomenon for the Dark Lord to knock at all… though it gave the situation a sinister edge.
But, as was common during the first rise of Lord Voldemort, the inhabitants of the dwelling where Lord Voldemort came a-knocking were certain that they could sit out the man’s approach. Surely he would get tired, no? Surely he would leave the door, realise they weren’t in. Even he-
Knock, knock.
The tapping came slower this time, and within the house, the three dwellers huddled together; mother, father and daughter. On the other side of the door, the young Voldemort, who had not yet heard about his downfall, withdrew his wand.
With a final knocking BOOM, the door was blown away with Voldemort’s blasting curse, and the man himself, who didn’t seem ‘man’ at all, stepped inside.
The man’s gleaming red eyes pierced into the very souls of the family before him, and as he raised his wand and pointed it at the father’s heart, he gave them all a humourless smile. “Always answer when the Dark Lord comes knocking. Or you’ll need a new door.”

13. FLAGRATE
When Lord Voldemort was more commonly know by that common muggle name, he had… a pack of muggle playing cards.
Usually, he would hate anything so ordinary, mundane, and downright non-magical… but these cards held an obsession, and that obsession… was solitaire.
“Red on red on red on black on RED,” the sixteen year old was heard mumbling to himself one day. He… didn’t quite understand the rules of solitaire, and nor did he care. He could cheat anyway.
Because he COULD.
“Hmmmm…” he paused, and in his totally made up game, he used his one cheat. “Flagrate!” the boy anounced, marking the back of the card so he could find it later.
KABOOOOOM!
The stack of cards Tom held in his hand exploded, and the boy fell backwards in shock.
And then it clicked.
“WHO REPLACED MY CARDS WITH EXPLODING SNAP RUBBISH?!”
Nobody was quite ready to own up.
It wasn’t often you got one over on the self-righteous lunatic that was ‘Lord Voldemort’.
Tom never found the culprit, but from that day forth, he mourned the loss of his cards that day of every year… and was petrified of the Flagrate spell.
It was his deepest, darkest secret.

36. REDUCTO
Lord Voldemort was well and truly… stuck.
It was definitely NOT in the plan to get stuck in a cave in during the placement of his Horcrux. Not. At. All.
And he was not happy.
Grumbling to himself in the Darkest Lordliest way possible, the man touched the wand he had stowed away in his pocket. Because yes, even evil men had pockets. The best way to get out would be a way that did NOT call attention to this place, because, with it being a hiding place and all… that would just be bad.
Letting out an enraged cry, Voldemort drew his wand and pointed it at the rocks. One of them had features that made it easy to imagine that it was the face of someone he hated. There was the scar… those were the glasses.
“REDUCTO!”
Forget not drawing attention to himself. He wanted OUT.
KABOOOOM! FREEEEEDOOOMMMMM!
“Halloooo durrr!” came a shout from a boat bobbing just outside the mouth of the cave. It was a fisherman in a flimsy little boat.
Was. He was soon killed for… being there.
The Dark Lord never did live that down.
Lord Voldemort, from that day forth, hated that cave.

7. CONFUNDUS
“Confundo,” Tom Riddle said clearly, pointing his wand at one of the smallest first year boys in the school. The young boy in particular was a Hufflepuff, and a muggle born, and Tom was passing his lunchtime with a little tormenting. The Hufflepuff boy didn’t know he’d been cast on, and went about his daily business, as if…
As if…
As if the spell hadn’t worked.
Tom was very confused, someone even threw a small imitation Quaffle to the Huffie, and he’d caught it superbly… so what…?
Shaking his head, in a foul mood, Tom turned from where he stood at the top of the stairs, and began to walk to Transfiguration, where he would wait for the end of lunch to arrive.
But… Tom was having trouble just getting down the corridor. He was dazed and walking into people and walls, stumbling his way to Transfiguration and glaring at anyone who so much as yelped in pain.
By the time he was at the classroom, Tom was red with fury and embarrassment. Embarrassment of all those stumbles… and from the realisation that he’d been holding his wand the wrong way when he cast at a first year.
Epic fail.

16. IMPEDIMENTA
Lord Voldemort was thirteen and… well… to be frank, not Lord Voldemort.
But he was still a little… so and so.
The boy strolled through the castle with his hands in his pockets, thinking only of his upcoming fourteenth birthday. Curiously, not about how excited or whatever about being a year older… just wondering why he didn’t care. Why he’d never care. There were a few kids who liked to call themselves his ‘friends’ and would buy him stuff. Tom absently scrunched his nose, still musing.
And that was when he came across the duelling sixth years.
The Christmas holidays were nearly here, and so most people were in high spirits… yet these two were really going at it.
Tom Riddle made to step around the duelling pair… when the Head Boy, a Hufflepuff, came out of nowhere and pointed his wand at Tom.
“IMPEDIMENTA!”
As soon as the boy had appeared, Tom had started to run… so when the spell hit him, he found that now he was going in slow mo… Baywatch styleeeee.
Apparently, the Head Boy had assumed that tom was involved he second he’d entered the scene.
Why did EVERYONE always think it was HIM?!
Typical.

19. JELLY LEGS
Lord Voldemort was, to be fair, a man with an unhealthy obsession with death. It was all he thought about, and yet, ironically he feared it. Even his name meant ‘flight from death’ and he’d devoted his life to becoming immortal.
And perhaps it was this reason that Tom Marvolo Riddle overlooked just how effective a simple case of embarrassment could be.
It was the final battle, and Lord Voldemort was yet to meet his death; he was, by now, fully mortal. No Horcruxes to speak of, and he was fighting against kids. School kids.
Kids that hadn’t been trained in dealing death, whose teachers would probably faint at the suggestion or mere thought of it.
Bad call.
Amateurs.
But that didn’t matter, the man’s mocking expression as he ducked a ‘Tarantallegra’ spell was soon wiped off as the same student hit him with a jelly-legs.
Everyone gasped in unison as the Dark Lord fell to the floor, feeling alarmingly unstable. It didn’t last for long; a loyal Death Eater removed the spell, and on went the massive duel, the atmosphere tenser than ever. Voldemort flushed, yes, FLUSHED, deeply and glared around.
Oh man, that kid was sooooooo gonna pay.

26. MORSEMORDRE
A lot of spells were derived from latin. You’d have to be the world’s dimmest Hufflepuff not to know that. Tom, aka Lord Voldemort, had a lot. He had his followers, his own special name and even what a foolish Ravenclaw had called a ‘logo’. What he needed now was a spell… all for him. To put his SYMBOL (not logo) into the sky. To… prove something.
If he had been into muggle things, the boy would have realised it was a little close to the whole Batman thing, with the symbol in the air. But he didn’t read muggle comic books.
So, after a lot of perusing the English to Latin dictionary, he’d found a good one. It meant ‘death’ and ‘to bite’ when it was put together… like a snake. A venomous snake.
Holding out his want after a LOT of experimenting and patenting and potions, yada yada yada
“Morsemordre!” Tom exclaimed, holding his wand before him in the Astronomy tower. At once, a skull type cloud in the sky with a snake coming from its mouth bloomed into the sky, and the 7th year YELPED and ran.
Never would he ever tell a soul about his… moment.

18. INCARCEROUS
You know when you first get a new pet, and they just do what they like?
Well, baby snakes by the name of Nagini are no exception. Tom Riddle, BUT THAT’S VOLDEMORT TO YOU!, had acquired Nagini via, of course, a black market transaction. Now he understood why the bloke was so nice to him when he bought her.
He’d have to die, of course.
But the new snake? No. Lord Voldemort would not be beaten by a… a…
“Stupid amphibian,” the man himself cursed, only to be swiftly corrected by a ‘loyal’ follower.
“I thought they were reptiles.”
“HUSH YOUR TRAITOROUS MOUTH!” Voldemort bellowed, and sent a spell (he hoped it was a stunner… that follower would be a burden if he was killed) towards the man, and smiled at Nagini, struck with inspiration.
“Incarcerous!” he cast at the wayward snake who was exploring the surroundings. Nagini carried on as if she didn’t have limbs to bind.
Because she didn’t.
“WHY DIDN’T IT WORK?!”
Nobody wanted to point out the logic; they were all staring at the lifeless form of the Death Eater on the floor. Killed for knowing animal classifications.
Yeah, best to keep quiet on this one…
