Severus Snape sat quietly in his favorite corner of the library, hidden behind a large stack of potions books. He browsed through the pages of his textbook, admiring the marks he had made in the margins of previous pages. He moved to make some more notes when he heard a loud, obnoxious voice coming towards his direction. Severus cowered behind his books even further, hoping that James and his cronies would take no notice of him.
“What’s this we have here?” Severus cringed at the sound of James’s voice and instinctively covered his potions book.
“Nothing that would interest you, Potter.” Before he could slid it into his book bag, James grabbed it out of his lap and tossed it to Sirius.
“Muffliato? Looks like little Snapey has been creating some spells. Perhaps we should try it out for him?” Sirius grinned at James who nodded, a dangerous glint in his eye. Severus winced and readied himself for the impending attack.
“Leave him alone!” Severus glanced up and found himself staring into the brilliant green eyes of Lily Evans. She smiled at him quickly before turning towards James, her eyes filled with loathing. “Take your childish behavior somewhere else James.” | |

2. Avada Kedavra
Severus rushed up to the driveway, his cloak billowing behind him. He paused quickly to catch his breath, and grasped his side, cursing himself for being so out of shape. All of a sudden a bright light flashed through a window on the corner of the house, illuminating the bushes which surrounded it. It was quickly followed by a woman’s voice breaking out in a heart wrenching scream. Severus shuddered at the sound of it and his heart constricted.
Please be alive, please be alive. He dashed forward, rounding the side of the house and crouching underneath the window. He could hear Voldemort warning Lily to move out of his way and Lily’s refusal. He heard her pain, anger, and love in her voice and he imprinted the sound in his mind, knowing what would come next.
“Avada Kedavra.” Another blast of green light lit up the night sky and Severus fell to his knees, feeling as though he would be sick to his stomach. A single tear escaped from his eye and flowed freely down his cheekbone. I love you, Lily. He found that he was shaking slightly, causing the tear to drop onto his shirt.
“I love you.” |

As Lily descended from the top of the staircase, Severus found that he couldn’t look away. Their eyes locked and she smiled at him, her eyes twinkling. Severus tried to keep from grinning but found that it was contagious. The corners of his mouth slowly betrayed him, causing Lily to smile even wider as she came to a stop next to him. “Lily,” he said as he bowed his head slightly at her and grabbed her gloved hand, kissing it softly.
“Severus.” She nodded at him and blushed, her cheeks turning a shade of red similar to that of her hair.
“Orchideous,” Severus murmured. A bouquet of red, pink, and white roses popped out of his wand and he handed them to her. “For the loveliest lady in the world.”
Lily blushed even harder and took them from his hand, holding them close. “Thank you, Severus.” She leaned over and kissed him quickly on the cheek.
“For what?” He looked at her inquisitively.
“The flowers, silly. Most men try to give me yellow lilies. I suppose they think they’re being clever.” She rolled her eyes in annoyance. “All I really want is someone kind, loving, and intelligent. Someone like you.”
