“Kennedy Escalante, come back here right now!”

The young boy on his bright red tricycle heard his mom's yell, but he did not stop. He wanted to ride it all the way down hill.

He put his feet on the pedals making his way to the top.

“Kennedy, don't you dare!” shrieked his mom.

Without a backward glance, Kennedy pushed down on the petals hard.

“NO! Stop right now! You're going to fall and break your head open!” she yelled, running after him.

He giggled. Silly Mom, he's done this about a hundred times behind her back.

“I said I am not going!”

“Do not snap at me like that!”

Kennedy groaned, throwing himself on his bed. His mom was set on sending him to the stupid freak school.

“Kennedy,” Lucia said, “I know this'll be hard, but it's for your own good.”

“Being taken away from my home is the best?” he said, disbelievingly.

“You need to go... to control your...” she paused and gulped. “Magic.”

Kennedy rolled his eyes. He knew his mom wasn't appreciative of anything involving magic.

“But... I don't want to be a freak.”

Kennedy glared at the wand in his hand. It did not like him. It just spluttered water at him. He gently handed it back to the shop-keeper. He was handed another one and was hesitant to touch it. What if it burned him?

He slowly and apprehensively took hold of the new wand he was presented with.

His eyes grew wide at the strange feeling that rose up in his chest. It was warm like a cup hot of chocolate on a cold winter day or a hug from his mom when he was down.

He has found his wand.

Aurora's eyes, richly green...a different green from his. They held a spark that screamed enthusiasm and them alone induced a fluttering sensation in his stomach.

How did he get so lucky to be able to peer into those orbs? He would never understand, but the one thing he did know was that he fancied her.

Yes! He fancied Aurora Stewart-Quinn.

That thought alone caused a deep blush to reach his cheeks.

They stood in front of each other. How they got there, he didn't know.

Finally, his lips slowly descended upon her's, a thousand fireworks going off in his head.

"It's in there, Daddy!"

Kennedy sighed and smiled at the curly haired girl too small for her bed. "There's nothing there, Darling."

"There IS," she insisted. "I heard it MOVE."

The four year old girl slid deeper into her pink covers hiding behind them, her big green eyes fixed on the closet door. Kennedy opened it and peered inside.

"Careful, DADDY! The goblin will eat YOU!"

Kennedy looked at the source of moving. Oliver, the great old cat was snuggled in a basket. Who knew that a decade after Hogwarts he'd be rescuing his little princess from goblins in closets.

Kennedy was deeply enthralled in a book, as always, but this time it was different. This was something that no one could distract him from...

"Hey, dude."

...Except his brother from another mother, John.

"Hey," Kennedy greeted, not looking up.

"Sure, go right ahead and ignore me...it's not like it doesn't hurt my feelings or anything," John fake sniffed.

Kennedy grinned, looking up. He knew his best friend was joking around. "You have my undivided attention, happy?"

"Very," John replied, biting into his apple. "What are you doing?"

"Reading."

"Duh, 'bout what though."

Kennedy glanced around, sneakily. "About...being an Animagus."

Kennedy took a slow, deep breath. After receiving his father's letter he took out his frustration on the person he would least want to hurt, but it seemed to be too late for that. Kennedy grimaced at his girlfriend's watering eyes.

He was the idiot that had caused that, but it was hard when all that ran through his head was some other guy that wasn't him kissing his Aurora.

He needed to quell his frustration. After all, it was not directed toward her, but at his father. Taking the cowards way out, Kennedy walked out of the Great Hall.

It was spring, which meant the Escalante family was at the park. Lucia shook her head at her five year old son. She'd been trying to spook him away from the ducks, whom peacefully pecked the ground.

"Honey, they're going to get mad."

Kennedy ignored her, running through the flock of ducks in his red cape. He was Super Kennedy at the moment. Mommy didn't need to interrupt his heroic attempts.

"QUACK!"

Suddenly, the ducks began flapping their wings at the boy and began chasing him.

"MOOOMMY!" he cried, trying to shield himself with his red cape.

DUCKS WERE EVIL!

He was being offered cookies. Not just any cookies, but Kurumi cookies. He's heard those were...delicious.

Kennedy turned his nose up into the air. This was war...well, not exactly, just a flag game, BUT she had been after their flag, so he'd only give in to Selena's chocolate frogs. M'hm.

The prefect acted uninterested, but accepted the alliance with Gryffindors.

He was NOT going to give in to those very yummy looking cookies...EVER. His eyes slowly darted to the scrumptious treats, but he quickly averted his gaze to the lazy giraffe holding their green flag high up.

Not. Giving. In.

Kennedy wasn't a first year. No, he was a fourteen year old transfer student, but that didn't make it any better. He was sitting on a stool in front of an ENTIRE audience. He fidgeted with his hands and tried to keep his eyes on the ground.

The Sorting Hat has been on his head for few minutes already. It kept wiggling and whispering things that Kennedy, at the moment didn't want to hear.

He knew it. His brain was so messed up that he'd fit in no house.

"Aha!" the hat exclaimed, causing Kennedy to jump. "SLYTHERIN!!!"

Oh. Great.

"Kennedy, slow down!" Lucia said.

"But I want the best costume, Mommy," the boy grinned, keeping his pace and only stopping in front of a wall with an array of costumes. This Halloween he wanted to be something REALLY cool.

His green eyes scanned the wall and finally paused. "I want this one," he said. It was of a kid in a robe, pointed hat, and wand. "I want to be a wizard."

"No," Lucia said, her face draining from its color. "My son is going to be no wizard."

Kennedy shrugged. His mommy was acting strange.

"How about Spiderman?"

"Kennedy, dinner is ready!"

The young boy dashed his way to the kitchen and slid in as his socks smoothed over the wooden floor.

"What's for dinner?" he asked, bouncing into his seat.

"There's..."

Blah, blaaaaah.

That's all that went through the kid's mind. The one food he had been craving all day was mentioned zero times.

"I want ice cream," he smiled. "Chocolate chip, please."

If he thought his mom would give in, he was SO wrong.

"Ice cream? Heck no," she said, disbelievingly. "Beans are good for you, tortilla and..."

Blah, blah, blah...

Where was the ice cream?!

Kennedy sat outside the ice cream shop that was his current part time job. He got up and walked by the dock and allowed the breezy air to ruffle his hair. He wasn't in the best of moods.

He stopped at the window of an antique shop when his eyes caught sight of something that he's been looking for unintentionally.

A small grin spread on his lips as he turned around, heading back to the ice cream shop. He had just found Aurora's Christmas present and to get it he would need to put in a few extra work hours.

Six year old Kennedy looked up at his mom. He knew she couldn't resist the "look".

"No, don't look at me like that," Lucia said.

Blink. Blink.

"Fine!" she said, sighing. "This better be worth our money!"

Kennedy laughed. Letting go of her hand he ran through the pumpkin patch. There were lots of them...everywhere. He wanted the best and biggest one of the bunch.

"Mommy! Mommy!" he said, cheerfully, pointing at the lucky orange squash.

Lucia's eyes widened. "T-That's too big...I think you even fit in there."

"Can I try that?!"

WOW! The pumpkin could be his new home!

Kennedy glanced around his green and gray room. It was small, yet cozy. Simple, yet his. He felt like this was going to be the last time he was going to be there. Maybe, but he doubted. True, his father had won his custody, but he had to come back home...back to his mom, right?

Time would tell, he guessed.

Stuffing his Hogwarts, A History book into his suitcase, Kennedy closed it with a click. One last look at his room and he was gone.

Gone to another world, that in his father's opinion, he should have been raised in.

After he crossed the wall at 9 3/4 the first sight his eyes caught were the identical green eyes he had. Of course, he wasn't staring at his reflection, although he'd prefer that at this moment. He was staring into the eyes of his mother.

Pfft, mother, Kennedy thought. A mother that lets go of her son without a fight.

"Kennedy-" she began, but was cut off by his coldness.

He dodged her open arms and without a backward glance he kept walking. All the while he wished he had a timeturner to go back to the much simpler times.

The manor was magnificent, even more so than his Godfather's, who was an ocean away. This man, he didn't seem like the kind to be humble of his social status. No. This man was the kind that likes to show off what he has. This man always got what he wanted, and Kennedy was proof of that.

"This is where you should have been raised," the man's deep voice echoed through the empty foyer.

Kennedy held in his remark. He was going to ignore what the man said. Well, as best as he could.

This man was after all...his father.

"Who's that, Daddy?"

"He's your brother, Beverly."

"Brother? But mum never had a son," the young girl said, wrinkling her forehead in confusion.

"He is not your mother's son, but mine." Kennedy had the urge to roll his eyes, his father's words oozed with pride at this.

Was this all he was after? Having everything and stripping others of their most precious possessions. Was his father proud of having separated him from his muggle mother? He did not doubt it. Kennedy could bet 1,000 Galleons, if he had them, that his father was practically glowing with satisfaction.

What a git.

Kennedy walked down the long staircase. Couldn't his father's manor have an elevator, that would make going up and down between floors much easier. Oh yeah, his father wouldn't know what an elevator was, and if he did he'd probably be repulsed by the idea because it was "muggle".

"So, you're my brother," a girlish voice came from behind a sofa.

"No," Kennedy said, begrudgingly.

He knew who it was and he knew he shouldn't take out his frustration out on her, but it was hard when she followed him EVERYWHERE and just...stared at him. It made him feel stalked.

"Wait!" the girl squeaked.

Kennedy ignored her and quickened his pace.

"Why are you walking SO fast?!"

His tolerance level finally reached its maximum. He spun around and glared at the child. "Why are you following me?" he said, attempting to keep his voice even.

Beverly's eyes widened as she collided with him. Kennedy carefully held her at her shoulders so she would not fall. The last thing he needed was his father's daughter to get hurt while around him.

"Because...I've never had a brother," she answered, her lips stretching into a tiny...smile?

Well, he was certainly not expecting this.

Kennedy stared at the dress robes. He didn't want to go this ball his father was having. He knew it was to show off that his son had returned home, of course, he would be hiding that Kennedy was taken from his real home against his will.

"Oooh, those are nice."

He rolled his eyes. He didn't even notice Beverly entering his room. She was seriously going to be a snake when she got to Hogwarts.

"They're hideous."

"You'll look pretty in those," Beverly countered.

"I'm a man. Men don't look pretty."

"You're not a man, you're Kennedy," she giggled.

"What are you reading?" Beverly said from beside him.

"A book," he answered.

Not satisfied with his answer she leaned over the table, taking a glimpse at the book.

"You're reading about dads?" she asked, giggling.

"No," Kennedy said, looking up at her strangely.

"Yes, you are," she said, pointing at the book, "DADA, although, I prefer calling my dad Daddy."

The boy chuckled. "It stands for Defense Against the Dark Arts."

"Oh, never mind, that sounds scary," Beverly said, shrugging and returning to her drawing book.

Kennedy shook his head. If she only knew the things their father did.
