Word 25 ~ Sorting Hat

"Creevey, Dennis!"

The voice of Professor McGonagall sounded around the Great Hall. Colin watched anxiously as his brother up to the battered sorting hat. He crossed his fingers, and nervously fiddled with his camera strap. The moment seemed to last forever.

"Gryffindor!"

A roar of voices sounded out from the Gryffindor table, and Colin prepared his camera to get Dennis as he walked back along the row, greeted by his new house.

Click. Click.

Colin smiled with relief. Deep down he knew Dennis was a Gryffindor, but he had always been a protective older brother and he didn't want that to change.

Word 11 ~ History of Magic

Dennis glanced at his classmates in History of Magic - most of them were yawning, some asleep on their desk and Professor Binns snoozing as he floated at the front of the class.

Dennis reached for his mirror. "Colin! You there?" Dennis whispered.

"Aren't you meant to be in a lesson?"

"Yep - History of Magic. Binns is asleep."

Colin nodded. "I got the next stuff as planned. We should start collating everything."

"Definitely!" Dennis grinned.

"...so Alfred the Extreme..." Professor Binns started to stir.

"See ya later!" Dennis said to his brother, turning his attention back to goblin riots.

Word 14 ~ Hogwarts, A History

Dennis had been eating breakfast when Colin had received the letter, telling him he was a wizard. It had intrigued Dennis, so when they went to Diagon Alley and Dennis spotted Hogwarts, A History in Flourish and Blotts', he wanted to know all about where his brother was going. Afterall, it was the first time ever that they had been separated.

Two years on, Dennis was excited that he was going too! He pulled out his well-battered copy of the Hogwarts book, and started to read, memorising the passageways, and of course the best way to meet the giant squid.

Wrd 16 ~ Dragon-hide Gloves

Dennis stood outside the paddock in his Care of Magical Creatures exam, nervously awaiting his assignment. He pulled on his dragon-hide gloves, and waited - hoping that he was not about to face a Mackled Malaclaw.

The examiner returned, seemingly holding two Jack Russell terriers. Dennis sighed with relief, knowing that he would have to identify the crup. There had been a most unsavoury problem in the Magical Menagerie when Dennis wanted a pet, for as the shopkeeper told him: "...Crups are extremely loyal to wizards and ferocious toward Muggles..." and Mr. Creevey had entered whilst their cage was open.

Word 18 ~ Whomping Willow

Colin and Dennis walked through the grounds, closely passing by the Whomping Willow. Pausing to look at it Colin turned to Dennis and sat down on the grass.

"You or me?"

"You or me what?" Dennis replied, confused.

"Getting the you-know-what!" He said, looking around the vicinity, checking that no-one was around. Not that many people chose to visit the lake in the winter.

"What, now?!"

Colin nodded. "Come on, the sooner the better - the quicker we can put everything together."

"Alright I'll go then," replied Dennis as he headed towards the Whomping Willow, pulling on some dragon-hide gloves.

Word 18 ~ Wand

Dennis held the wand that Ollivander had given him and held it loosely in his hand. Waving it around, feeling stupid, nothing happened. Dennis groaned. He had been standing in this shop for half an hour and they still had not found the perfect wand. Colin had not taken nearly as long as this.

Ollivander returned from the shelves, shaking his head. Oh great, thought Dennis, picking up the next wand. But this one was different - an electric energy rushed through his body, and he did not even need to move to produce a jet of red sparks.

Word 20 ~ Hogsmeade

It was the third Hogmeade visit of the year, and Dennis had finally got up the courage to ask Victoria to come with him for a butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks - a fact Colin found hilarious.

They arranged to meet at the gates, and Dennis spotted Victoria waiting quietly to one side. "You ready?" He asked. Victoria nodded, cheeks blushing. They walked to the village in silence, lost in their own thoughts and the warming sun. As they reached the pub, Dennis turned to her and smiled. He squeezed her hand and looked into her eyes. They were beautiful.

Word 21 ~ Veela

"Wow!" exclaimed Colin as Fleur Delacour entered the Great Hall. Dennis just sat there at the Gryffindor table, mesmorised. "She's beautiful!" Their eyes followed her as she went to sit down over the other side of the Hall.

The whole duration of the meal the boys in the room kept gazing over to the part-veela. They watched her move, the way she flicked her hair, the way she laughed, but not at what they were eating. Which was why Colin ended up with a large helping of porridge in his lap and Dennis breaking Fleur's spell with a roar of laughter.

Word 24 ~ House elf

Crack!

Dennis woke with a start. He sat up, rubbing his eyes. In the middle of the room was a small green creature. He leant forward to get a closer look.

"Who are you?" Dennis enquired.

"Dobby the House elf, sir" came the reply, as the elf bowed low. "Sorry if I disturbed you sir, I was looking for Harry Potter. He's not in his room." With this he started banging his head against the frame of Dennis' bed.

"What?"

"Bad Dobby, getting caught".

Crack!

Dennis hurriedly returned to bed in case his room mates thought he was talking to himself.

Word 38 ~ Patronus

Dementors...

Dennis shuddered at the thought. He was standing in the Room of Requirement, listening about conjuring a Patronus, yet in his mind Dennis saw the horrible cloaked figure pictured in his Defence Against the Dark Arts textbook. Tuning back into Harry, Dennis tried to think of happier thoughts.

What about winning the school obstacle race on sports day? Dennis shook his head. Not strong enough.

He ran through his memories, scanning for the day he felt the best. Then it came to him, how could he have forgotten? The day he received his Hogwarts letter!

Now for the incantation.

Word 42 ~ Portraits

Colin peered round the corner, checking the coast was clear. Dennis stood just behind him, squeezed in tight so as not to produce a shadow. They stood listening carefully.

"Come on!" Colin beckoned, creeping softly towards the portraits. "Right, you ready?" he asked.

Dennis stood there, and glanced around nervously. It had always been part of the group dare, but he thought someone else would do it, not him. He nodded slightly, bearly visible in the moonlit corridor.

He stepped forward, and pulled out a feather.

The portrait slept until a tickle caught his nose. Footsteps echoed through the hall.

Word 55 ~ Egg on

For Jenni, who chose the number.

Dennis laid back by the lake, and looked across at a pretty Slytherin girl with a boy of the same house. Not as pretty as Victoria though. He recognised her from one of his lessons but could not recall her name.

The boy, Malcolm Baddock, saw him watching and stomped over.

Dennis stood up tall.

"You watching my girl?" Baddock asked, as the boys sized up.

"No," Dennis replied..

"Fight, fight, fight..."

Normally Dennis wouldn't have reacted, but with cheers egging him on, he landed a punch in the stomach. Picking up his stuff, he walked away before Snape arrived.

Word 72~ Vex

Another for Jenni...

Dennis sat looking at the NEWT level Transfiguration book in front of him. The language was old and started to vex him, especially with the growing noise in the Common Room. Turning round he saw a miniature tug of war with a Gryffindor scarf. The knitting was gradually stretching as the Gobstones players took on the Wizard's Chess players for use of the games table. Cheers echoes all around him.

Dennis lazily flicked his wand and transfigured a plant to form another table. With everyone too tied up with the tug of war, Dennis sighed and went to the dorm.

Word 85 ~ Snappish

Dennis was not having a good day. Having been woken up by Peeves' singing at some ridiculous time, lost his lucky socks and now on his way to a Potions test, he was feeling particularly snappish. He reached the dungeons and turned towards that dreaded classroom.

Dennis quickly flicked through his book, checking he had covered everything. He looked up to find the door looming above him. But there was something else - a note.

"I have been taken ill, please continue revision and we should be able to complete the test next week."

The snappishness went - cheering broke out.

Word 86 ~ Daring

Dennis sat opposite Colin, a game of Wizards’ Chess between them. Neither of them were particularly good, but Colin was currently daring Dennis to do a forfeit if he lost. Dennis sighed, he knew that his brother was going to win, and that he’d find a way to make Dennis do the forfeit regardless of the outcome. It just happened when you were the younger one.

Sitting up, Dennis tried to focus, deciding that he would push Colin as hard as possible, even though he hadn’t any idea how to play and his pieces kept telling him contrasting instructions.

Word 93 ~ Chicken

Dennis shook his head, or at least tried to, as it was not all that easy at the moment. He stood in a shadow along the Defence Against the Dark Arts corridor, peering round the corner. Colin stood behind him, sniggering.

“Come on, fair’s fair!” Colin teased. “You did lose at chess after all.”

Dennis felt like cursing his brother, but refrained. “I’m waiting for the right moment,” he mumbled in reply.

Colin pushed his brother forward, revealing to the whole corridor Dennis in a large chicken suit.

“Squawk….squawk…”

Colin laughed, watching Dennis flapping his wings.

Word 95 ~ Snowball

Dennis sat in History of Magic, staring out the window. A layer of white had covered the ground overnight and he was eager to investigate. Finally Binns dismissed the class, and Dennis - along with most of the students - ran outside.

Reaching the snow, Dennis was unsure where to start. Spotting some familiar hair, Dennis picked up some snow and gathered it into a large ball. Walking closer, he took aim.

Before he had chance to do anything - Smack! Something cold and wet hit him on the back. Dennis dropped his snowball to find Colin laughing behind him.

Word 27 ~ Owl

Dennis sat in the Common Room, trying to concentrate on the book in front of him. He had an essay on Babbling potions and Snape had set an excrutiatingly short deadline. Sighing, he turned the page, and glanced out the window. Something white and fluffy caught his eye.

Getting up, Dennis reached to open the window and let the fluff-ball in. Seemingly it was a small owl, and attached to its leg was an equally small letter. As Dennis removed the letter, the owl started walking over the essay he had been writing. Dennis frowned, and placed the letter aside.

Word 52 ~ Bore

Dennis yawned widely. It was yet another History of Magic lesson and he seemed to be one of the only people left vaguely awake. Professor Binns himself was to be heard snoring whilst floating at the front and Dennis sighed. He was sure goblin riots could be interesting. What a waste of good time, he thought, this is such a bore. I could be initiating some of the big plan.

His thoughts wandered to the plot, and grabbing his quill he started jotting down odd notes.

Package, Beetle eyes, Puking Pastilles....check!

Cake, chocolate, Canary Creams...check!

Butterbeer? hmm, one to get....

Word 26 ~ Quill

Dennis sat in the Great Hall, running the feather of his quill along his chin. He sighed, and looked down at the paper in front of him. It was his Defence Against the Dark Arts OWL exam. A serious voice announced "You may begin."

Dennis turned the parchment.

'Name a spell that could be used in defence against a dementor, stating how it is performed.'

He dipped his quill in the inkwell and started to form an answer in his head. He thought back to his time with Dumbledore's Army and smiled. Putting ink to paper he started to write.

Word 63 ~ Mooch

Dennis was bored, and wandered aimlessly through the corridors of Hogwarts, thinking about what to do.

"Dennis!"

He turned quickly at the sound of his name. A few metres away stood his head of house.

"Yes Professor McGonagall?"

"You shouldn't be mooching around on a beautiful sunny day like this. Why don't you go and watch the Quidditch team practice? A few action photos for the locker room would be nice."

Dennis nodded and grinned. Quidditch practice? He could go and watch Harry train! He smiled and ran to the Gryffindor Common Room to fetch his brother and camera.
