History of Magic ‘Tell me,’ Rita said, leaning in for a better listen. ‘Was there anything, any tiny indication, that his relationship with Ariana was a negative one?’
She watched the author of A History of Magic expectantly from behind bejewelled spectacles. Bathilda’s age had made her forget quite a lot of the juicy details, and she needed a lot more to work with. ‘Well...’ Bathilda began, straining to remember. ‘I remember a brawl, one night...’
Placing the Quick-Quotes Quill upright on the parchment, Rita leant back to listen to what had to be a deliciously scandalous chapter in Albus Dumbledore’s intriguing life.

First Year | Bug Eyed 49. Yule Ball ‘Anuzzer what, precisely?’
There was a pause before Hagrid responded; a delicious pause, which was waiting on a very personal piece of information Rita was dying to know about. ‘Another half-giant, o’ course!’
Gasping inwardly, beetle-Rita crawled up to the top of the stone reindeer’s head to get a better view of the argument now breaking out between the two.
Oh, sneaking into the Hogwarts grounds for the Yule Ball had been worth it, alright. First Quidditch champion Viktor Krum head over heels with Hermione Granger, and now the Care of Magical Creatures Professor was – though unsurprisingly – a half-giant! Lovely.

First Year | Monday Morning 13. Quidditch
Was it already due for another Quidditch World Cup?
A disgruntled Rita sat down at the usual desk at the office on a particularly painful Monday. Browsing through some interdepartmental memos, she grumbled quietly to herself about the ten-something articles she would have to write on Quidditch in the coming weeks preceding the World Cup. How she hated that sport. Unadventurous to write about, cumbersome to watch, and it didn’t help that she was horrible at flying too.
However, she certainly enjoyed writing about the personal lives of various players; yes, she would definitely be writing a lot of that.

First Year | The Front Page 26. Quill The celebration following You-Know-Who’s mysterious demise was reason for a number of sightings by Muggles, which, predictably, made the headlines in Muggle newspapers. Now, the wizarding world must be dying to know the story about the Boy Who Lived, Rita thought. Such a tragic, heroic story. The orphaned Harry Potter bears the battle scars, proof of his encounter with the darkest wizard, who he so bravely fought No, that didn’t sound right. How old was the boy again?
Frustrated, Rita threw her tattered peacock quill into the bin next to her desk. She badly needed one of those Quick-Quotes Quills.

First Year | Those Cunning Folk 25. Sorting Hat ‘I must say, Rita, that article depicting me as an irresponsible old fart was quite a charming read.’ ‘I was merely pointing out that unfortunate incident with the Basilisk, Dumbledore...’ ‘Yes, very unfortunate,’ Dumbledore said, leaning back in his chair and staring at all the clinking and smoking instruments in his office. His eyes fell on the sorting hat. ‘Remind me, which House were you in? I’m afraid my memory has been failing me lately...’ ‘Slytherin,’ Rita said nonchalantly, searching for something in her crocodile-skin purse. ‘Ah, yes...’ Dumbledore said. ‘Those cunning folk… use any means to achieve their ends.’

First Year | Directions 70. Spook The eleven-year old writer/critic extraordinaire (still unpublished, as of yet) turned a corner on the fourth floor and came face to face with Peeves. ‘Ooh, ickle firstie lost on the fourth floor,’ the spook sniggered maliciously. ‘Where is the Charms classroom?’ Rita asked, not knowing how dangerous this question could be. ‘Last door on the right!’ Peeves promptly answered. ‘That’s the one!’
Hurrying down the corridor, Rita opened the last door on the right. A bucket of ice-cold water cascaded down and drenched her from head to toe. Fuming, she turned around, but Peeves had already zoomed off, cackling madly. |
