It really was starting to get on his nerves. Black sighed heavily as he lay on his bed. It was bad enough he had to spend his summer at the manner without James. He really didn’t need his parents annoying him with their depressing way of thinking and that annoying house elf was getting on his nerves.
“He should just croak,” he muttered scowling at the ceiling.
As if on cue, the door opened and in trotted a house elf.
“Master is a disgrace, yes he is.”
Seizing the pillow beside him, Sirius chucked it at the stupid creature's head.

7. Care of Magical Creatures
Flobberworms were possibly the most boring subject anyone could have ever chosen to talk about. Peter eyed the flobberworms with disgust as the instructor talked rapidly. James carried a playful smirk on his lips, his eyes glazed over as they pointed in the direction of Lily who seemed completely oblivious to Potter’s attentions.
As the Professor passed a bucket brimming with the slimy and uninteresting creatures around, an idea dawned on Sirius. Seizing a particularly fat flobberworm he quickly flung it around, slapping James loudly across the face.
“Snap out of it, Potter!”
Remus frowned as laughter filled the air. |

88. Sweet Tooth
There were many things people didn’t know about Remus Lupin. They didn’t know he was a werewolf neither did they know that he had a terrible sweet tooth. Sitting in the common room, he chewed on a Sugar Quill, trying to pacify his craving.
His brow was furrowed and his eyes looked heavy and dark. Sirius and James cast worried glances at Lupin while Peter sat nearby fiddling with his robes.
“Oi, Moony. Don’t think too hard,” said James.
“Your brain might turn to mush,” added Sirius.
“As long as it’s a sweet mush,” whispered Lupin, feigning a studious behavior. | |

“That’s a regular old cat, Sirius,” muttered Lupin really trying to block out the noise his housemates were making.
Honestly. Wasn’t there a time they were ever quiet?
“Look at it Moony!” Protested James eagerly. “There is no way that creepy looking cat is not a kneazle.”
Peter got near the furry little creature and reached out a timid hand to stroke its gray fur. The cat hissed wildly and rapidly struck out to scratch the pudgy boy’s hand. Shrieking, the boy sought refuge behind James.
“Told you it was a kneazle,” declared Sirius smugly as if that settled things. | |

9. Defense Against The Dark Arts
This was his favorite class with the exception of one tiny detail: Snivellus. He was everywhere! Sometimes he wished he would just get swallowed up by a Dragon or that Hippogriffs invaded the premises of Hogwarts and trampled him in a tragic magical accident. Lupin groaned as he sat between Peter and James who was at the moment making faces at Snape.
Severus scowled intensely before returning his attention to his parchment, heavily stained with grease. Sirius snuck his hand into his robes but a scathing look from Lily Evans kept him still long enough for Lupin to frown disapprovingly. | |

When the four friends were grouped in a corner of the common room you knew something was up. Sirius and James huddled close while Peter trembled nearby, eyes scanning the common room nervously and Remus had his hands inside the pockets of his trousers glancing at the ceiling as if to ask why he was being punished so. Yes, something was definitely up.
“Oh, come on Moony,” whined James excessively. “I just want to zap him a little bit.”
“No.”
“It’s Snivellus we’re talking about!” Protested Sirius glancing over his shoulder at Lily to make sure she was busy reading.

It wasn’t as if this was the first time. James was used to doing this sort of thing. After all, he wasn’t popular for no reason. Remus clapped him on the shoulder trying to give him some encouragement. Sirius was far too busy muttering foully under his breath next to Peter.
“I can do this,” whispered James to himself as he walked slowly towards the pretty red-head underneath the leafy tree by the lake.
Stopping before her, his lips parted to utter words but the girl spun around and her face turned from surprise to annoyance.

The flames licked the walls of the fireplace as it roared gently spreading heat into the packed common room. Outside the window the wind howled savagely as snowflakes spiraled down. Peter and James were busying each other by playing chess. James pretended not to watch as Peter cheated. Meanwhile, Sirius and Remus were having a heated discussion behind a thick and tall pile of books.
“Now, Remus,” hissed Sirius in an urgent whisper. “Right there! Attack before her groupies arrive and see you!”
“I can’t,” was Lupin’s feeble answer as his face slowly turned into a bright shade of pink.

So deep was the need to distract himself that reading Hogwarts, A History had become more of a necessity than a mere hobby when one was extremely and pathetically bored. After skimming the pages for five minutes, Sirius heaved a sigh and chucked the book at Peter’s sleeping head. The pudgy boy woke with a start, arms flailing about.
“The chickens! THE CHICKENS ATE THE CORN!” He roared half-asleep.
Remus unbothered by the fiasco continued to work on his homework, James and Sirius; however, stared unblinkingly at the screaming youth before opening their mouths to let out fountains of laughter. | |

“The past is in the past,” he assured him, a sloppy smile decorating his juvenile face.
It wasn’t the first time Sirius had said this and it wasn’t the first time he had meant it as a lie. His jet black hair hid his twinkling eyes as he sat carelessly in the armchair next to the fireplace. Lupin’s intense stare did nothing to shake of his careless demeanor.
“It’s not like I hate Snivellus! In fact, I quite appreciate his sneaky ways,” he went on to perform. “I won’t hurt him.”

He kept flapping his dragonhide gloves about as if they were two miniature wings. Remus wasn’t entirely sure what James’ purpose was but Potter was working up a sweat. Sirius eyed him with curiosity and looked intrigued enough to give it a try himself.
“James,” began Remus in a slow drawl as he attempted to bandage Peter’s bruised thumb. “What are you doing?”
James huffed repeatedly before deciding to answer.
“Working on my arms,” he replied flatly and continued to flap his arms, the gloves making a cracking sound in the air. Sirius frowned and glanced at his own biceps.

“YAAAAAAH!” he shouted as he dropped on the ground.
Several thuds followed after the initial one and all were followed by exaggerated groans. The first boy with dark hair, spectacles and eerie perfect skin sat up, rubbing his head repeatedly. The others were still splattered over the concrete, pain scribbled on their faces.
“My head,” he groaned as he squinted at a pair of delicate long legs standing before him. Looking up he smiled sloppily, an amused grin hanging from his lips. “I see six Lilies.”
Sirius stood up and wobbled dangerously, nearly colliding with the girl herself.
“Hello Lilies!”

18. Whomping Willow
The mist enveloped the angry tree as he made his way towards it at a quick pace. Remus’ stomach growled as he was followed by James and Sirius. Peter also followed reluctantly behind, glancing over his shoulder as if he expected someone to pop out of the shadows and drag him towards the deeps of the forbidden forest.
Standing a few feet from the Whomping Willow Remus stared into the darkness where his friends had stopped minutes before. From it appeared a rat, a black dog and a deer all of which followed Lupin into the crevice of the tree.

1. Herbology
James eyed the plant with disdain. Remus hummed a happy tune as he adjusted the soil around the biting shrub having no issues with the possibly carnivorous plant. Potter picked up the shovel as Peter watched in awe, knowing he meant harm to the shrubbery.
“Die,” he hissed not wanting the Professor to hear him as he stabbed the shrub’s bushy leaves repeatedly with the tiny shovel.
After seconds of muttering a loud shriek interrupted the class. The stubby Professor waddled over to James, eyes wide in fear.
“It bit me!” He cried out incredulously, holding up his bloody finger.

The Professor held up an object with a round top and Sirius looked around at his classmates as they all each let out sounds of amazement. His dark eyebrows were furrowed against one another in confusion. Sitting in the front row with him was James and Peter both also in awe. Remus was in the front row but on the far side of the room, his quill ready for action.
“This is a lightbulb,” said the Professor.
Ooh. Ah. Again. Louder.
“Lemme touch it!” Squealed Sirius, leaning over his desk, fingers stretched out ready to steal the Professor’s prized possession.

“Today we’ll be turning this,” said the tall Professor holding up a knitted sock in the air between index finger and thumb. “Into snakes.”
It was an advance lesson of Transfiguration and the news of the difficulty caused a wave of murmurs to erupt through the classroom. James and crew, however, seemed collected enough for the exception of Peter who blushed scarlet and whispered something to James as his wand hand shook fiercely.
“Please keep your snakes at bay with a simple accio spell when the transfiguration is complete,” he instructed giving Sirius a meaningful look handing him his sock. | |

Sirius and James groaned excessively, falling off their chairs as Remus once more explained to Peter the homework. Lupin tried ignoring the twosome but their antics were wearing him down. It didn’t help that he was craving a large piece of chocolate.
“Mooooony,” whined James chin resting on the table. “Stop it with the runes already. Nobody gets them anyways!”
“What good are they?” Inquired Sirius, head thrown back and arms dangling lifelessly. “You can’t use them to flirt with girls.”
“Hey girl, want to see my Fehu?” James asked with a smirk.

It was another midnight lesson. James sighed as he sauntered down the well-lit hall, astronomy book shoved underneath his arm. Sirius had decided to go to “sleep” and Remus was far too busy catching up with homework. James found this all too confusing. He didn’t think Remus would ever need to catch up with anything not to mention homework.
“Hello James,” said a soft voice from the shadows.

Sirius shook the crystal ball violently causing the frail Professor to shriek loudly. Her gray hair was wild and sticking out at all angles as she continued to point her index fingers directly at Black in a series of jabbed motions. This did not stop Sirius Black’s mission. James fell to the ground as tears ran down his cheeks.
Remus rubbed his temples, unwilling to become involved in the matter meanwhile Peter held a tea cup between his trembling hands.
“Tell me who wins the cup NOW!” Demanded the dark haired boy and chucked the crystal sphere out the window. | |

8. Potions
Potions was the worst class anyone could have ever come up with for the exception of Ancient Runes…and Arithmancy oh and History of Magic oh and Herbology. Point being, it was quite an awful class for Sirius. He much rather be outside. The sun was shining!
“Pay attention Black!” Barked the Professor, rapping Sirius over the head with a wand. “What goes after the bundimun essence?”
James snickered into his hand as Remus and Peter mouthed the answer in the distance. Sirius squinted and then smiled broadly.
“Bloomers!”
The sound of a palm slapping a forehead echoed through the room.

Remus smiled. This was quite easy. This homework was. Add up a number. Take another one out. Add two more. He glanced over his shoulder and sucked on his teeth disapprovingly. Over by the armchair laid Sirius, mouth open and snoring loudly. Over him hovered James and Peter both giggling like school girls.
Lupin shut his book and stood up, calmly and walking towards the suspicious group. Before he could ask what was going on he winced finding it hard to keep silent. On Sirius forehead were scribbled some interesting facts.

“Yadda yadda trolls,” commented James in a boring tone to Sirius who seemed utterly confused. “Yadda yadda big boom! Wizards came in blasting off bums and peace was restored,” finished James shutting the heavy book with a loud thud.
Sirius stared at James in awe for several seconds. His best friend always astounded him. Even when he was full of it.
“You rule my world, babe,” he answered ignoring Remus glare of doom. “Seriously, man.”
Peter frowned deeply and opened his own text book, flipping through the pages furiously.

Peter waved his wand wildly yet nothing happened. Behind the couch hid Sirius and James, pillows attached to their fronts, their backs and around their heads. This was going to be difficult.
“You’re not doing the right movement, to start with,” declared Remus loudly from across the common room, where he too was decorated in home-made protective gear. “Secondly, it’s ak-ee-oh not ah-she-oh.”
Honestly, it was a simple summoning charm but with Peter Pettigrew who knew what he would summon out of them. Their underwear could end up in his hand or their livers if they were particularly unlucky today. | |

The crowd was roaring. Occasionally they would move like an ocean of scarlet and emerald whenever a goal was made or missed. Up in the sky was James Potter, eyes darting back and forth in hopes to catch that glimmer that would mean victory if he just managed to get his fingers around it.
In the crowd Sirius wore a smile as he hollered and hooted while Peter and Remus tried to avoid his flailing arms. Sirius only stopped his cheering when he glanced at a particularly pretty brunette next to him to whom he casually draped his arm around. | |

He nudged her. Hard. Seriously, couldn’t she just scoot over to make room? She nudged him back just as hard with a triumphant smile on her face. Sirius was becoming annoyed at this red-headed pest. Time to whine.
“Why did she have to come along?” Protested Sirius to James who was in the passenger seat.
James said nothing and sighed heavily while Remus and Peter tried to pacify things by shrugging apologetically. Lily, however, raised her brows incredulously.
“Because I’m his girlfriend,” she replied in a haughty tone.
