Hello everyone! My name's Megan, or you can call me Eggy, as most people do nowadays, but here's my very first drabble!  Of course this drabble is going to be about my two favourite house elves in the Harry Potter series, Dobby and Winky. It will follow a storyline about these two elves, some canon while others from the books of Harry Potter. I’ve always wondered how the lives of the house elves were as they are rarely mentioned in the books, but only when they are helping the brave trio, or where we catch a slight glimpse of the lives of house elves in the kitchen. That is why I want to start writing about them.
And lastly of course, any of the characters I mention that are from the Harry Potter world belongs to the fantastic J.K. Rowling. Enjoy!

It was a fine night at the Malfoy Manor, Dobby stood in front of a magnificent fireplace and tended the fire to keep his masters warm.
“Stop dawdling with the fire.” Mr. Malfoy sneered and went back to reading the Daily Prophet. His son, Draco, sat beside him and stared at Dobby with disgust. Taking out a crumbled piece of parchment, he whipped it at Dobby’s head. It bounced off him and Dobby quickly stumbled out, only to fall onto the ground.

58. Hoot
The stars twinkled in the dark sky and a shooting star fell down to the earth below. Dobby reached out with his small hands, hoping to catch a falling star.
“I wish I could leave this horrible family,” he whispered.
An owl perched on a branch hooted in reply to him, as if it were agreeing with him. Somewhere in the living room, Dobby heard stomping and he banged his head painfully five times on the cupboard to punish himself for not obeying his master’s orders.
Across the city, another house elf called Winky was wishing on the same star

69. Slap
“Your meal, Master Mr. Malfoy Sir.” Dobby squeaked.
The family of three sat around the long, carved mahogany table in silence. Any witch or wizard could hear a pin drop in the magnificent dining hall. Of course, Dobby wasn’t expecting any thank you or praise from the family, so he retreated back in silence. A moment later, Dobby heard his master clear his throat.
“Y-yes mast-“A sting pulsed through his body as he was slapped in the face.
“A disgrace to the family,” he heard him mutter and the delicate China silverware shattered on the floor in a thousand pieces.

The dishes were cleaned and Dobby was sulking in the corner of his moldy den. He was not enjoying life and was lost in thought if he was ever going to have a happy one.
“Dobby, come here.” Master Malfoy ordered loudly from the master bedroom.
Dobby shook at the thought of what his master had in mind for him this time. He reached the entrance of the room and squeaked a feeble “Yes, Master?” before standing in silence.
“Go find Harry Potter and persuade him to never return to Hogwarts.”
“But why –“
“Just do as you are told.”

24. House Elf
Dobby was to meet the Potter boy. What shall he say to make him leave Hogwarts? Suddenly, the bedroom door opens, and the boy with the messy hair stares at him.
“Who are you?” Harry asks.
Dobby bowed low until the tip of his nose touched his filthy pillow case, “H-harry Potter, Sir. I-I am Dobby the house elf and I come to warn Harry Potter to never return to Hogwarts.”
“But why? I don’t understand.” Harry shook his head at what he was hearing from this creature.
“Great danger waits at Hogwarts. Harry Potter is not safe at Hogwarts.”

86. Daring
The feeling you get when you can’t control the situation of keeping a famous boy safe from harm anymore. You have no choice, but to send a rogue bludger after the poor boy during a quidditch game. You feel terrible inside to do such a thing, but your master calls for it, or terrible punishments will follow. You hold your breath with fear as the bludger almost hits the boy dangerously close. It could’ve killed him, yet you know it is the right thing to do to keep him from the dangers at Hogwarts. It’s a risk you must take.

“Harry Potter is in the hospital now.” Dobby thought as he walked to the hospital wing. He had teleported to his fellow house elf Winky to see what she had to say about it.
“You is causing trouble. You is not making things better. I warn you, Dobby. Stop helping the boy,” she squeaked.
Dobby wasn’t going to listen to Winky. It didn’t seem right what he was doing to him and in his heart, he wanted to be a free elf and away from his horrible masters.
“I don’t care Winky and you won’t be able to stop me!”
