The broken picture frame lay shattered on the floor, the glass shimmering with an eerie green glow. Ernie’s and Hannah’s picture smiles serenely from its ruined home, Hannah’s wedding dress flowing in the autumn wind and Ernie gazing adoringly at her; a picture that would never be again. The Dark Mark glimmers, its green light illuminating the wreck of a home below it as the Death Eaters flee the scene.
Two years out of Hogwarts, two days of martial bliss, two hours to destroy it all. Ernie and Hannah had no warning, and now everything they loved, everything they cherished, was gone. |

| And they meet... Number 51. Act
Ernie was descended from a long line of Mcmillans, and he knew there was certain decorum to be upheld. It’s how he must act: dignified, pompous … dead boring.
Listening to the commotion outside his compartment, Ernie wished he could join in, or relax at least, but he couldn’t.
"First year, first impressions, I’m a Macmillan."
A blonde girl peeked into his compartment and asked if she could join him. Ernie nodded curtly, offered the seat opposite him and introduced himself.
"Hannah Abbott," she said smiling. "You should loosen up. Enjoy the ride."
Ernie looked into her face, and couldn’t help but smile too.

| Fizzing Whizbees Number 88. Sweet Tooth
Hannah opened the package; Fizzing Whizbees and a note. For that sweet tooth.
She smiled to herself; her birthday wasn’t for another three days, yet for the last four she had received similar packages, all with the same note, the same handwriting. She recognised it straight away. Countless times that too-tidy script had covered her newly spell-checked work or covertly passed notes in class. She looked up at him trading Chocolate Frog cards with Justin. Thoughts turned from her gift-giver to her now wanting sweet tooth.
She blushed and looked away from Ernie, not quite sure if she was thinking about the Whizbees. ((♥)) For Ottery, who's sweeter that Fizzing Whizbees.

| Why don't You see Me? Number 27. Owl
“First years! This way, please, follow me!”
Ernie was in his element: authoritive, helpful, firm but kind. Hannah couldn’t help but be a little awe struck.
She remembered getting the owl saying she made perfect, and the happy owl she received hours later from Ernie, now her fellow Hufflepuff prefect. She remembered being happier reading Ernie’s note, he was so obviously ecstatic. She needn’t wonder why that made her happier… she only wished Ernie felt the same.
Hannah broke out of her reverie when she realised she was staring.
“Umm…yes, first years, this way.”
Ernie turned and smiled at her. She returned it outwardly, but on the inside she sighed.

| Daydreams and Stained Glass Windows Number 21. Veela
The light filtered in through the library’s stained glass windows, a rainbow of colours, falling on a lowered blonde head. Hannah’s pony tail swayed as she worked. Ernie stared for a long while, smiling as the lights reflected off each blonde strand.
“Ernie!”
“Veela! Umm, I mean… what?” Ernie turned pink and the front chair legs slammed into the stone floor.
“Don’t swing on your chair,” Hannah said, suppressing giggles. “You’ll get us thrown out…wait…Veela?”
He blushed a darker crimson. Now she was laughing. It was infectious and he couldn’t help but laugh too.
They were promptly ushered out by an irate Madam Pince. ((♥)) For Kelly, who taught me Strawberries and Drabbles make for an interesting lunchtime. |

| In The Wrong Place At The Wrong Time Number 69. Slap
There was a resounding slap as a second year was slammed into a wall by another. A group of spectators had gathered around, blocking the passage.
“Hey! What’s going on here? Break it up! I’m a prefect, break- OOMPH”
Ernie received a right hook for his trouble.
It was an accident, but he escorted both by the collar to the nearest teacher’s office (It still stung).
“Thank you, Macmillan, I’ll take it from here.”
He left an angry McGonagall and closed the door behind him. Within seconds he was enveloped in a tight hug.
”Oh! Are you alright?!”
“I’m fine, Han.” He hugged her back.

| Enjoying some time outside... Number 70. Teem
It was break on the first day of the new school year and the weather tempted many outside. The Entrance Hall was teeming with first years tentatively venturing into the grounds.
“I was definitely never that small,” said Ernie, eying the little ones from the lakeside.
“Well, your head wasn’t, at least.”
A The Complete Guide To Muggle Television sailed through the air at Justin.
Rubbing his head, Justin turned around and saw Hannah and Susan making their way through the first years and over to the lake.
Following Justin’s gaze, Ernie saw them too. Patting down his hair nervously, he watched as Hannah neared. ((♥)) For Deborah, my favourite Dutch Muggle. |

| Just a bit of fun Number 95. Snowball
THWACK! Ernie rubbed the side of his face and looked around for the perpetrator. Thwack! Thwack! He got two more to the back before he saw blonde hair whip around and disappear behind a tree. Smirking, he charmed three snowballs and sent them on their way.
“Ahhh! Ernie! Oh, you are so going to get it!”
Hannah appeared from behind the tree, wand raised, as another white sphere sped towards her. With an easy flick of her wand and a murmured spell, she sent the snowball into the tree.
“I’m warning you, Macmillan!”
“Calling me Macmillan now, Abb-” TWACK!

| Wanting To Impress Number 60. Joke
“…and then the Hag says ‘Hoy! That was my Hippogriff!’”
Everyone sitting on the Hufflepuff four-seater roared with laughter. Hannah clutched at her side, Justin doubled over and Susan was near crying. Ernie laughed along at his joke, but really he was watching Hannah. Her face, lit up with mirth, made him fill with pride.
“Where,” Susan was breathless and laughing, “in the name of Merlin did you learn that?”
“Just picked it up somewhere,” Ernie said, trying to sound dismissive.
“Who knew straight-laced Ernie could tell one like that!”
“Hey!”
The laughter was renewed but Ernie didn’t really mind, Hannah was enjoying it. ((♥)) For DOK, who say they like my jokes. |

| Snow Kisses Number 20. Hogsmeade
The day of the Hogsmeade trip was greeted with a lazy snowfall and a light wind; the ground was white and the trees looked like they were sugar dusted.
“Where did you want to go?” Ernie was hoping Hannah didn’t plan on giving Madam Puddifoot’s tea shop a visit.
“Well, it will be warm in The Three Broomsticks. Maybe we can get a Butterbeer?”
“Sure … err, Han? You have a little….there.”
Ernie brushed his thumb lightly over Hannah’s cheek to remove the snowflake.
“Oh…” Hannah giggled, glad her scarf was hiding the flush of colour she felt moving up her neck. ((♥)) Had to resist writing ...Madam Puddifoot's tea shop a visit. He didn't want to have to choke a Cupid! 1) It would have went over word limit and 2) I...don't think it would been allowed somehow...
Also...inspired by Makani because this is too fantastic for words. |

| Denial Number 31. Dress robes
Susan had somehow coaxed Hannah into a word association game. “Pumpkin?”
“Juice.”
“Stork?”
“Fly.”
“Dress robes?”
“Umm…” Hannah looked around the room for inspiration and saw Ernie’s heel disappear through the door to the boy’s dormitory. “Yellow.”
“Yellow? How-” Susan looked around to where Hannah was staring and saw Justin follow his best mate through the door. Her face must have shown her dawning comprehension, because when Hannah turned to face her, Han asked, “What?”
“Ernie had yellow stripes on his tie at the Yule ball.”
“So?”
“You like him.”
“No I don’t! Not like that.”
“Mmm hmm, sure.”
Hannah blushed.

| Nap Time Fairytales Number 64. Nap
“Tell me a story.” The little blonde girl snuggled into her blanket, smiling expectantly up at her mother.
“Okay… There once was a princess with pretty blonde hair. In the neighbouring village lived a prince, who was stuffy and very proud, but he had such a warm heart. The princess loved the prince, but didn’t know if he loved her back.”
“Oh no! What happens next?”
“Isn’t it your nap time?” interrupted Ernie, who appeared at the end of the bed and smiled down at his daughter.
”Wait, daddy, wait! Does it have a happy ending, mummy?”
“Yes,” Hannah looked at her prince. “Yes it does.” ((♥)) For Nabs and Kirstie McGonagall, fellow lovers of the HuffleLove. |

| Limerick Loathing Number 84. Angry
“Hey, Han, ever heard of the Troll from Carolina?”
“If that’s a limerick, I swear to Merlin I’ll hurt you!”
“Whoa. Did I do something? Why’re you so angry?”
“It’s none of your business!”
“Fine! A guy can’t even make a joke…” Ernie walked away, leaving Hannah alone.
She didn’t know why she was so angry. Ernie had every right to talk to Padma, to go on the Hogsmeade trip with her, to date her. Hannah cried herself to sleep that night.
In the boys dormitory Ernie dreamed of Padma who, for some reason, kept morphing into a blonde, pigtailed badger.

| He doesn't believe Number 6. Divination
“So, what did Trelawney say?” asked Susan, as she and Hannah walked into the Great Hall for lunch. Hannah saw Ernie, who was sitting with Justin, and smiled.
“She said I’ll find something new, with an old friend.”
“Really?” Susan smiled knowingly.
The girls sat down with thier friends, and plates of sandwiches appeared.
“How was Divination?” asked Justin.
“Divination is a load of rubbish, if you ask me,” scoffed Ernie.
Hannah’s heart sank.
“Well no one asked you, Macmillan!”
Hannah stormed off, Susan following in her wake.
“What did I—“
“I don’t know, mate.”
The plates disappeared.

| Forever your's Number 76. Zap
Hannah sat outside, a fluorescent light illuminating the veranda around her. A sharp zap disturbed the night’s silence as an insect flew into the light. The bug zapper was her mother’s. She would put it on and she and Hannah would listen to the zaps, racing each other to say “Oop, there’s another one.”
That wouldn’t happen anymore. Death Eaters made sure of that.
A loud zap brought Hannah out of her thoughts.
“Hey, there’s another one.”
A welcomed warmth spread through Hannah as Ernie came out of the house to join her.
“You didn’t get that quite right.”
“Well, you have forever to help me master it.”

| A Guide to Girls? Number 34. Parseltongue
“What am I meant to do?” Ernie sat heavily in his favourite chair by the window. He has just spent the Hogsmeade weekend with Hannah. “Am I meant to jinx the moon down for her?”
“I dunno, mate,” said Justin. “It’s like trying to understand Parseltongue. They should come with a manual or something.”
All day Ernie had been trying to figure out if Hannah liked him. He wished he was a confident guy like Cedric. Girls just flocked to him.
An owl soared through the window and dropped a note in his lap. Ernie,
♥
Han.
Ernie raised his eyebrows in astonishment.
“Like I said, parseltongue.”

| Irrelevant Number 35. Pureblood
“You know, with your skill and blood status, you could have made it with us, Macmillan. Pity you had to go and get yourself killed.”
“Blood purity isn’t at all relevant. And as you can see - or can you through that mask? - I’m alive and kicking.”
“Not for long,” said the Death Eater, his wand pointed at Ernie’s heart.
Before either could act, a red light hit the death eater square in the back. He fell to the ground with a thud.
“Hannah?”
“I couldn’t let him hurt you.”
Ernie grabbed her hand, kissed it, and they apparated.

| The Little Details Number 14. Hogwarts, A History
Hannah and Ernie left the library with a copy of Hogwarts, A History each. They were hoping to find some information about the Chamber of Secrets.
“D’you think it’ll have anything in it?” Ernie looked over at Hannah, who was clearly struggling with hers.
“I don’t know, but it had better had! I’m worried about Justin. Argh – It’s so heavy.”
“Here.” Ernie took the book, carrying it for her.
“Thanks,” said Hannah slowly, looking at Ernie. He was always so sweet.
“No problem.”
As they walked on, Hannah wondered why she never noticed how Ernie’s hair flicks slightly at the ends. ((♥)) For a dark haired, caramel skinned boy from a dark haired chocolate skinned girl. You're probably the only person reading these things Thank you. ♥♥♥ |

| Distracted Number 19. Wand
“Accio. Accio! Accio! Oh for Merlin’s…” Ernie was having a bit of trouble with his summoning spell. Usually he excelled at Charms, but right now his mind was a bit distracted. Next to him blonde hair flicked in the light as she caught the object speeding towards her.
“Whoa. Careful there, Ernie, you nearly had my eye out.”
“Err…Sorry, Han. I – err – I…”
“You’re moving your wand wrong. Here.” Hannah covered Ernie’s hand with hers and showed him how to cast the charm properly.
Ernie gulped and looked sideways at Hannah. I’m never going to get the hang of this. |

| A Bit Of A Reputation Number 63. Mooch
“Do you have extra Boomslang I can use? I think I ruined mine.”
“Yeah, okay, Hannah, you mooch.” Ernie looked over at Hannah with a smile. She’s always borrowing something or another. What would happen if I didn’t have it, thought Ernie. Of course that would never happen; you can always rely on Ernie being prepared for every class.
“I’m not a mooch! I’m just a tad…unorganised.”
“A tad?” laughed Ernie.
“Hey!” Hannah punched Ernie playfully in the arm. “Not everybody can be Ready-for-Anything Ernie.”
“Ready for – What?”
Hannah laughed at the look on Ernie’s face. ((♥)) That's number 20! YAY! |

| She wouldn't have it any other way... Number 61. Kiss
The way a butterfly’s wings softly brush the velvety petal as it hovered, or the way the leaves caress each other lightly in the breeze… maybe it was the intoxicating perfume of the Romantia Flower but Hannah could not keep her mind on Herbology.
All Hannah could think about was last night. The stars seemed so bright against the deep black of the sky as Ernie walked her down to the lake. “I just want to spend some time alone with you,” he’d said. And under those stars he kissed her.
Hannah sighed happily. Everything reminded her of that kiss.

| Just some nonsense to deflate Ernie’s ego :P Number 65. Ooze.
“It’s nice out here, isn’t it?”
“Beautiful. Just like you.”
Hannah lifted an eyebrow questioningly at Ernie.
“What’s with you?”
“I’m oozing charm. Girls go for that sort of thing.” Ernie smirked, sounding so matter-of-fact.
She tried hard not to smile. Ernie’s such an idiot…but an adorable one.
“You’ll be oozing something else if you don’t watch out.”
“Now, now, Hannah Abbott, don’t get snippy. I know you can’t resist my charms. The Macmillan Magnetism they call it – Ahhh!”
Ernie tripped over a stone and fell into the lake.
Minutes later he walked into class with Hannah, definitely oozing something else. Mud.

| Everybody can see it. Why can't they? Number 45. Torch
Susan followed Ernie and Hannah through the dungeon corridors for their next class. She watched them chat and laugh easily with each other. Why can’t they see it, the flame they hold for each other? Everyone else can see it.
They walked past the torches in their brackets. Susan looked into their flickering flames thinking about how funny it is to have these torches all around them but her friends are so oblivious to their feelings for each other.
Hannah touched Ernie’s arm, laughing. Susan smirked. One day. One day they’ll see how much they burn for each other. |

| She's so beautiful when she's sleeping... Number 68. Roar
Ernie found it hard to read his notes by the light of the fire, but he dare not move lest he wake up Hannah. Her head moved a little against his shoulder as the fire gave an extra loud pop. He smiled down at Hannah’s serenely sleeping face.
This is why he loved winter: a roaring fire, snow covering everything like a bright white blanket and Hannah by his side. She snuggled up to his shoulder and gave a resounding snort. Ernie pressed his lips together to stop his laughter waking her up, but his shoulders shaking did the job. ((♥)) For Ottery, with whom I would love to share a roaring fire. I think I have some marshmallows around here somewhere... |

| Great minds... Number 32. Common room
“So, umm, this is your common room. This’ll be your home in Hogwarts so get to know everyone around you. Keep up the great Hufflepuff reputation and be friendly and happy and…umm, have fun.”
Ernie looked up at the sixth year, thinking he doesn’t really know what he’s doing. I could have done a better job and I only found out this was the common room two seconds ago, thought Ernie.
“You know,” said Hannah, who was leaning towards Ernie to look down the corridor to the dorms. “You could have done a better job than that guy.”
Ernie smirked.
