Dragonhide gloves Charlie frowned as he walked. He was getting ever increasingly annoyed with the wizard population. He was walking to a protest for the hunting of dragons for their skin. Why can’t wizards wait for dragons to shed their skin to make their gloves for Herbology? he thought. It’s not like dragon skin isn’t as strong when it’s shed, it’s just as strong as the stuff they take from them after they kill them! His thoughts turned angry as he finally reached the protest. He was greeted by several friends and handed a sign. He was more than ready for this. |
78. Picking Up Norbert Charlie Weasley circled the tower from high in the air. It was nearly midnight and he waited for his brother’s friends to bring the dragon. There, he saw them. Harry Potter and Hermione Granger bore the crate that held the baby dragon between them. ‘Norbert’ Ron had called it. He knew very well that you couldn’t tell what gender a dragon was at that age, but, oh, well. “C’mon,” he motioned to his friends, “they’re down there.” They angled their broomsticks down. Taking the crate they strapped it onto their brooms in a stretcher. Angry snorts issued from the crate as they took off and flew into the night. |
7. Care of Magical Creatures Charlie Weasley flopped down on the grass near the lake and closed his eyes. When his friends plopped down beside him, he opened them. Steven had Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them open on his lap. “What are you doing you Care of Magical Creatures report on, Charlie?” he asked. “Dragons.” He rolled his eyes. “Shouldn’t’ve asked. I think I’m doing mine on the Demiguise. What species?” he asked after turning a page. Charlie thought about it a moment, then said, “Antipodean Opaleye, I think. They seem the friendliest.” They all laughed, because they knew Charlie really didn’t care. |
97. Dictionary Charlie walked down the crowded street. At 15, Molly let him go Christmas shopping on his own. Shopping for his dad was difficult. Finding nothing for his dad, Charlie exited Diagon Alley, knowing he had some Muggle money. He window shopped, then went into a bookstore. It wasn’t long before he found something Arthur would love. I book with the word “DICTIONARY” on it. The lady at the counter was skeptical when he laid it down, but let him buy it. On Christmas, Charlie presented it to Arthur joyfully. Arthur opened it and smiled. “Ah,” he said happily, “a dictionary.” |
9. Defense Against the Dark Arts “Alright, class. Wands away, we won’t be using them this time.” The professor walked into the room. The class wasn’t happy about not using wands, but invariably they’d be using them next time. “Today’s lesson is about one of the most horrible dark creatures you can think of; after demetors, perhaps. The Lethifold.” Charlie looked about the classroom as students shuddered. Someone knew what it was. An enchanted piece of chalk wrote on the board wrote on the board as the professor spoke. “The only known spell to repel a Lethifold is the Patronus, which we will work on tomorrow.” |
24. House Elf Charlie walked away from Shell Cottage. After Voldemort’s defeat, he had agreed to stay with Bill and Fleur a while, before returning to Romania. The closeness was getting to him. Not really paying attention to where he was going, Charlie found himself near the edge of the property. A small mound lay at his feet. A stone at one end read: Ah, Dobby. From Bill, he’d heard about the elf’s sacrifice to keep Harry alive. Taking a flat stone, he inscribed on the surface: and laid it down. (I like this one best, so far. It's kinda sentimental, but I miss Dobby.) |
79. Diagon Alley 11 year old Charlie Weasley shifted his weight uncomfortably from foot to foot. He stood before the fireplace, then threw his handful of Floo Powder on the flamess. He shouted “Diagon Alley!” then disappeared. Now in Diagon Alley, he was, if possible, more nervous than ever. Being the Oldest child had its pros and cons; one con being that he had only his parents stories of Hogwarts to prepare him. Shopping for his supplies didn’t ease his worries. What if he broke his wand? What if the Potions Teacher poisoned him? Or worse?! This day was going to be torture. I originally wrote this for the topic of Past, but realized it didn't fit that, so I used another author's choice. |
54. Dare Charlie burst into the common room and skidded to a halt in front of the fireplace. “They’re here;” he gasped, “the dragons for the First Task! Come on!” and raced back out. His friend followed him through the Forbidden Forest, until the reached the dragon pens. Fire streaked into the night sky. Any flames were promptly extinguished by several wizards. “I dare you to go in.” one said. Charlie nodded and crept forward. He used his wand to unlock a door to a pen. The dragon inside amazed and frightened him. He was lucky to come out unscathed, but wow! Charlie takes a crazy dare. But on the plus side he's not dead, and he got a close up with a dragon. |
1. Herbology Charlie looked at the dying plant on his desk. even when he was in Romania, his mother felt… obligated to send him a present. For his birthday maybe? Must have been, he thought. She sends sweaters on Christmas. He winced as he thought of the, ahem, several purple sweaters being used as cushions for baby dragons. He got some water from the sink and watered the plant. Sturdy little thing. Charlie thought, Good for it at least. Pity I’m horrible at Herbology. Charlie sat down looking cross. It bugged him that he couldn’t remember the name of the plant… |
44. Ford Anglia When Charlie entered the Forbidden Forest, he was shocked. Little had changed since he’d been at school. Well, with one exception. In clearing out some space to hold the dragons without burning anything (or much) he and several others had found an old, banged up Ford Anglia. Charlie recognized it as the car Harry and Ron had taken to school two years ago. The car looked horrible. It acted like a wounded animal, and Charlie could have sworn it growled at him when they uncovered it. Could it have linked him to Ron? Either way, the car had gone wild. Not the best I've done. Sorry it's been so long. |
2. Muggle Studies “This,” the professor said, “is something muggles call a ‘Garden Gnome.’” Charlie, who was carefully sneaking Every Flavor Beans from his pocket to his mouth (and trying not to gag when he got a gross flavor), looked up. Compared to the potato headed pests in the garden at home, these things could hardly be called gnomes. It looked dwarf-ish, but also outrageous in its bright colored clothing and pointed red hat. The thing was shiny, made of something muggles called ‘plastic.’ “Muggles buy these,” the professor continued, “for their gardens; seeing them as ornaments, rather than pests like wizarding gnomes.” |
31. Dress robes The package contains dress robes for the Yule Ball. Have fun!” Love, Mom and Dad Charlie opened the package and wrinkled his nose in disgust. Steven looked over his friend’s shoulder and said: “You’re not wearing that, are you?” “Steven,” Charlie frowned, “that looks like something belonging to my Great Aunt Tessie. I’d bet you 10 Galleons it did. I wouldn’t wear it if my life depended on it.” “I thought not.” Steven said. “You can wear an old set of mine.” He offered. Charlie’s expression was totally serious as he said, “Steven, You’re a life saver. Thanks.” |
25. Sorting hat Charlie was shaking slightly as the crowd of first-years around him dwindled. Finally, his name was called. As he sat there with the Sorting hat on his haead, he heard a small voice whisper in his ear. Hmm… It said to him. I can see that you are in need of friends. Hufflepuff could give you that; but no. Ah yes, most definitely You are a… “GRYFFINDOR!” The hat shouted the last part for all to hear. Three of the tables clapped for him while the fourth (presumably Gryffindor) cheered and applauded wildly, happy to have another Gryffindor this year. |
94. Allergic Stepping off the train, Charlie followed his friends to a carriage. This was how all students except the first years arrived at school. Sitting down on a seat, Charlie began coughing and sneezing. He was unable to leave the carriage, as it had already started moving. The ride to school was agony. Charlie, it seemed, was allergic to whatever it was that pulled the carriage. What had Professor Grubblyplank called them? Thestrals: that was it. Charlie frowned as he got out of the carriage. He’d have to walk into school if this kept up. Maybe he’d be allowed to fly. |
