77. Cheerful Samira Spinks and Nika Adler were walking on the Hogwarts grounds by the lake on a crisp fall day. Nika was listening to Samira as she vented.
“I mean honestly! We don’t even have a real Defense class this year. No practical lessons. And even if we do do a practical lesson—”
Samira stopped mid-sentence as her overly cheerful friend started giggling randomly.
“What’s so funny?” asked the Slytherin curiously.
Nika looked at Samira seriously, then giggled again. “You said ‘do do’.”
Samira rolled her eyes at her friend’s antics. The continued walking, Nika occasionally giggling, “Doo-doo.”

Nika beamed happily, knowing that she was able to play match maker and set Samira and Levi up to meet each other. She quickly leaned against the wall and listened in on their conversation.
It was the perfect moment. He was leaning in closer to kiss the Slytherin when suddenly-- "ACHOOO!"
Nika tried to hold the sneeze in, but it was too late. She had already ruined the kiss. Samira looked around after seeing a flash of Nika's signature red/pink hair.
"NIKA!" Samira shouted after the lion, but Nika remained hidden. The Gryffindor's gonna get it for that one.

Samira’s eyes were closed as she rested her head back against the desk behind her. The Slytherin’s legs were propped up on the desk in front of her and she was just drifting off when…
“YODALEH-HE-HOO!” came a loud, boisterous voice from beside her.
Samira’s head snapped up sharply. “YODALEH-HE—”
“Nika!” she snapped, annoyed.
“Huh?” asked Nika.
“What in the name of Merlin are you doing?”
“Oh.” Nika grinned. “I’m practicing my yodeling!”
Samira dropped her head back against the desk with a wince and groaned.
“YODALEH-HE-HOOOOO!” Oh my Salzar…this girl is truly and undeniably insane…

Nika skipped up to her best friend with a huge smile on her face. "Wanna hear a joke!?"
"No, but I have a feeling you're going to tell me anyways," Samira replied with a small smirk.
"So there are two muffins in the oven," she started off her joke giggling uncontrollably. "One muffin says to the other muffin: 'Oooh it's getting hot in here.'" Giggle. "Then the other muffin goes, 'AHHHHH A TALKING MUFFIN!!!'" Giggle, giggle.
Blink. Samira stared at Nika and cocked her head to the side in bewilderment. What was the point to that joke?
Giggle.

The door of Madam Malkin’s Robes For All Occasions opened with a tinkle. Samira stepped in with Nika close behind her. Both girls had their arms filled with bags. Nika’s with candy and pranks, Samira’s with shoes and jewelry.
Nika eyed a section in interest as Samira walked over to another end of the shop.
“Ooh! Samira, come here!” came Nika’s excited voice.
“What?” asked Samira as she approached.
“Look, wouldn’t this look so cute on you?”
Samira stared at the green and black mini-skirt in distain. “It’s plaid.”
“So?”
“So. It’s plaid.”

"Samira, SAMIRA! Guess what?!" Nika was practically bursting with excitement.
"What?" Samira asked her, looking up from her newspaper with a yawn.
"CHICKEN BUTT!" The pink haired, second year doubled over in laughter as Samira shook her head.
"Pink, I really worry about you sometimes."
"No way, my parents say the same thing!" Nika nodded her head rapidly as she beamed at her friend.
"I wonder why," Samira let out a chuckle and soon Nika joined in.
"Samira?"
"Yeah?"
"Why are we laughing?" Nika asked continuing the chuckles.
"I have no idea," Samira said, replying simply with a slight shrug.

The snow was falling fast and hard on Hogwarts grounds, and Samira was a safe distance away from the slushy ice, standing in the corridor to the courtyard. Nika was frolicking away in the snow, trying to catch them with her tongue.
Samira hated snow. The only reason she was out was because Nika begged Samira to come. Frankly, Samira wanted to make sure the eccentric Gryffindor wouldn’t hurt herself. Which was a possibility.
Suddenly, when Samira wasn’t looking, a snowball hit her in the side of the head, upsetting her delicate dark curls.
Samira whirled around. “NIKA!!”

Samira reluctantly took off her heels and handed them to "Pink". It was hard giving up her babies, but this was for a good cause. Today Nika will learn how to walk in heels!
Nika struggled to walk as she tried to balance in the heels. As if it wasn't hard enough trying not to fall, now she had to add four inches to her height. THUD. And she falls... again.
After getting the hang of walking Nika looked over to Samira with a huge smile, "Can I start running now!?"
Samira shook her head, "No, let's keep this pace."

“Face it, Pink,” said Samira, smirking. “You can’t scare me.”
Nika was determined. “I can too! Just… give me some time.”
“Alright,” replied Samira, disbelieving. “Get back to me on that.”
As Samira turned away, Nika ran up and grabbed her sides. “BOO!”
The Slytherin didn’t even flinch. “Nice try.”
Nika grumbled. That Saturday morning, Samira was alone, sitting at Slytherin table. Quietly, Nika crept behind her. “ROARRRR!!”
Samira jumped about a foot in the air. “Merlin, Nika! What was that for?!”
Nika just grinned and walked away. “I told her I could scare her…” Mission accomplished.

Nika looked up from the book that she was reading at raised an eyebrow. "Samira do you know what Parsley-tongue is?"
The Slytherin shook her head slowly as she furrowed her eyebrows in thought. "Oh, you mean Parseltongue?"
"Yeah that."
"Snake-language, why?"
Nika smiled sheepishly a she walked towards Samira. "Cause I've been practicing with a book."
Samira's face mirrored her objection to the prospect as Nika began to "speak".
"'Seeessshhhhheeeeessshhheessshh' It means 'Hi'"!
Samira let out a small sigh. "No. I'm pretty sure it doesn't even translate." She let out a chuckle as she looked at her friend.

It was after hours, and two first years were wondering the corridors.
“OI,” came a voice from behind them. Samira and Nika both cringed. “What are you two doing out after hours?” asked the Prefect.
Samira felt Nika stiffen beside her, waiting for points to be deducted. But Samira knew just what to do. Immediately, her eyes welled with tears and her bottom lip trembled.
“W-we’re s-sorry. We’re lost…” she trailed off, using her innocent first year façade.
The Prefect took pity on them and showed them their way to the common rooms, having fallen for her act.

{Takes Place in the year 2074 during their first year}
T'was the final Care of Magical Creatures lesson and Saylen was making them dig through piles of poo.
Nika finished her assignment and looked up at Saylen, "I'm done Professor."
Saylen let an evil smile play on her lips, "Well then take this sponge and clean the buckets." The poo filled buckets. "As for the rest of you, class dismissed."
Nika let her jaw drop in protest, wha-what?!
Samira turned to leave when she noticed Nika had a sponge in her hand. She walked over and grabbed a sponge for herself, "Need help?"
Luckily Samira is a good friend.

Samira and Nika were both standing in front of full-length mirrors in a Wizarding boutique. This was Nika’s first time shopping for dress robes, since Samira invited her to a formal ball her parents were throwing at Spinks Manor.
The Gryffindor was a bundle of nerves, so the Slytherin was trying to soothe her by taking her shopping.
Samira was admiring herself in a sparkly green strapless dress with a silver band around the waist while Nika was in a frilly pink dress with spaghetti straps.
“You look great,” said Samira encouragingly.
Nika smiled back. “Thanks, so do you.”

"Ugh... Fine." Nika reluctantly gave in and Samira's lips curled into a triumphant grin.
"You're no fun!" Nika Adler was very disappointed, It's not like it's that cold. The snow doesn't mean a thing.
"Well I'd like to see you jump into the ice cold water." She paused and looked at Nika, "Exactly."
"Well next time let's play truth or dare in the spring."

Unknown to much of Hogwarts, Samira Spinks had a huge, uncontrollable need for sweets. Cakes, candy, sugar, sugary drinks…anything unhealthy of all kinds. Samira had to have it.
Nika Adler discovered this unhealthy need when she was walking towards the Hogwarts library, and saw a lone foot sticking from the bookshelves.
There Samira lay, covered in several wrappers, chocolate all over her face. Her usually neat and kept hair was strewn around her. Samira’s eyes were closed, and she had a sort of dreamy smile on her face.
“And I thought I had a sweet tooth!” said Nika incredulously.

"Roses are red and violets are purple," She beamed at the snake proudly.

“I’m in the mood for some Quiddich,” said Samira one day. While she and Nika were lounging by the lake. Nika looked up curiously.
“What’s Quiddich?”
Samira almost stopped breathing. “What’s Quiddich?” How could someone not know about Quiddich? Oh…right. She was a Muggleborn.
“Nika, come on,” Samira took the other girl by the wrist and led her to the Quiddich field. “Today,” said Samira loudly, “I am going to teach you how to play Quiddich.”
Twenty minutes of explanation, thirteen falls, twenty-five growls of frustration, and a broken wrist, Samira knew that Nika Adler was not destined to be a Quiddich player. Ever.

"Oh hi Samira!" Instead, Nika popped up and smiled warmly.
"What? How did that not scare you?"
"I'm a Gryffindor, silly. I am supposed to be brave, remember?"
"Well you must be afraid of something. Nika Adler what is your Boggart!?"
"A snake..." She hid her head sheepishly.
"A what?"

They were walking back from Care of Magical Creatures class, and Samira was unusually quiet. Nika stopped talking about the interesting lesson and turned to Samira. “Are you okay?”
Samira just shrugged, but Nika pressed. “How could you…how could you see those Threstals?” Nika knew it was a personal question, but she could help asking.
“It was an accident,” she answered quietly. “Our family was visiting Somolia, and there was a bonfire…it got out of control…and—“
Nika stopped her friend by laying a hand on her shoulder. “I’m really sorry,” she whispered. From that moment on Nika hated Threstrals.

"It's my fortune telling outfit, duh." Sigh. Why is Nika so abnormal? "So you gonna come closer so I can tell you your future?"
What? "So this is what you're doing?"
"Uh huh!" The red haired girl nodded enthusiastically.
"So how many futures have you told?"
"None yet. Nobody's let me."
"I wonder why." Reluctantly Samira stepped forward. "Nika, this better be good."

“Um…both?”
“Uh, okay…Is it a grindelow?”
“Nope.”
“What color is it?”
“It’s, um, any color.”
“Is it…robes?”
“Nope.”
“A…time turner?”
“Nope.”
“Give me a hint.”
“It can move.”
“A Threstal? A Hippogriff?”
“No.”
Samira growled in frustration, scratched her head and said, “I give up. What it?”
Nika looked sheepish. “Oh, I forgot.”
