100 Drabbles for the Bookworm Emily Smith - Sa13+ Disclaimer: The Harry Potter characters and universe belong to J.K. Rowling. Themes (10/100) ~~~~~~~~~ Oh no. The night before the charms exam and Emily was panicking. She’d read all her books twice, and been practicing for weeks before hand but still couldn’t master the banishing charm. In frustration she picked up her pillow and threw it across the room. Every charm was so easy to her, why not this one? “Accio” and the pillow zoomed back into her hand. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Concentrate. “Depulso!” This time the pillow flew across the room and landed in the box she was aiming for. She smiled. The charms star was back! |
Emily ran into Honeydukes with a huge smile on her face. Sweets! There were so many sweets! She stood for a moment taking in all the smells and colours of the shop, before taking out her purse and looking around. She was piled high with chocolate frogs before she saw them. Dropping the frogs, she picked up the quill like lolly and examined it. A sugar quill? She bought one and as soon as the sweet touched her lips she could tell this would not be her last. “This is the greatest sweet ever!” she cried, grabbing the rest of the stock. |
Emily stared at herself in the mirror, but the girl looking back at her was someone she didn’t recognize. It was a girl with shiny hair swept up into a tight bun, and wearing a flowing blue dress that danced around her legs as she turned with matching shoes. She never dressed like this (she was hardly the kind of girl who wore dresses often) but she couldn’t help but admire her reflection. Adding a rose to her hair she left the dormitory to meet up with her friends. This ball had better be worth the work she’d put in. |
Sitting at a table on her own, Emily watched as everyone grabbed a partner and began to dance to the slow song playing. She wasn’t kidding. Everyone seemed to have a date except her. Not that she really cared about boys, but it would be nice if someone else was on their own as well. She wouldn’t feel so alone then. She stood up and looked at her dress. Maybe this ball wasn’t worth the work after all. She turned and noticed a tall boy smiling at her. She smiled back as she walked over. Well she’d been wrong before… |
The tiny first year that was Emily was trembling where she stood. She was here! Finally she was at Hogwarts, yet she was terrified. She’d been concentrating on being at Hogwarts so much she’d completely forgotten all about the sorting. She was sure to be in Ravenclaw. Her mam had been, and she loved to read and learn. She wished she was more like her sister; a true lion. “Smith, Emily” Gulping Emily slowly took a seat on the stool and bit her lip as the hat was lowered onto her head. Here we go… There was a pause. “Gryffindor!” |
:D *Dedicated to Ariana!* Emily staggered into the common room, her arms loaded with books. She really wished the library was closer. The walks were killing her! She could feel her arms about to give way when “Need a hand?” The small, Gryffindor girl took some of her books, helping to lighten the load. Together they carried them over to the armchairs. “Thanks.” “Oohh! You’re reading about dragons? That sounds interesting!” the girl said staring at the pile. “Actually I’ve read that one. Want to borrow it?” “Yeah, thanks! I’m Nika Adler.” “Emily Smith” They shook hands. This was the start of a brilliant friendship. |
“What about that?” Emily’s sister Rachel was pointing at an orange dress with fur in on of the windows of the busy London Street they were on. “You’re kidding right?” Emily asked her sister, raising an eyebrow. She had to be kidding. Rachel laughed and dragged her into the shop to look around. Emily groaned loudly. She hated parties, and especially those were you had to wear a dress to. Her aunt had to get married now. “Oh! I like this!” Rachel cried holding up an ugly plaid skirt. She shook her head. Her sister really had no fashion sense. |
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” Rachel shouted as Emily bounced down the stairs, still in her pyjamas. It was August 4th and Emily’s twelfth birthday. She smiled at her sister before jumping on her, gripping her in a bear hug. “I wasn’t expecting you ‘till later!” “Ah, but I need to give you your present now little sis. Before it fly’s off.” Emily’s heart skipped a beat. No way. She ran into her living room and saw it. The big bronze cage sitting on her coffee table, containing the little tawny owl. “RACHEL! Thank you so much!” This was the best present ever! |
:D *Dedicated to Shelby!* This was the fifth time Emily had been over to this side of the school and she was still getting lost. She sighed wondering if her luck could get any worse when it started to rain. Perfect. She started to run towards a large tree near by to take shelter when she felt someone grab her shoulder. “You don’t want to go under there. That’s the Whomping Willow.” She looked from the girl to the tree, watching it flail its branches about. Close call really. “Thanks.” She smiled at the girl. “I’m Emily.” “Cove” They shook hands, and were friends ever since. |
It was the first lesson of the term and it was already exciting! Biting toadstools, mischievous pixies. Emily couldn’t understand why people we complaining, this was fun! “Immobulus! Stupefy!” she cried pointing her wand at passing pixies and collecting up the toadstools. “Right class that’s the end of the lesson!” she heard professor Bentley say. Aw, already? She collected her things and went over to the teacher “Great lesson! Mind if I go into the greenhouses?” “Course not! I’m here if you need me!” It wasn’t until now she’d taken an interest in Herbology. Now she wanted to know more! |
