25. Sorting Hat – A New Year Begins A new term was about to begin and once again the Great Hall was filled with faces. As the newest Headmistress of Hogwarts, it was Minerva McGonagall’s duty to give the customary welcome speech and commence the sorting of new students. One by one, she called each child forward. The Sorting Hat was placed on each eager student and soon enough the long line had dwindled to none. After every student had been Sorted, Minerva waved her wand and the Sorting Hat returned to its usual place in the Headmistress’s office. With a welcoming smile, she invited everyone to eat. | |

93. Chicken – Old McDonald Had a Farm
“SQUAWK!”
With a start, Professor McGonagall hurried out of her office into the Gryffindor Common Room. A group of students had formed a circle around something that appeared to be waddling and squawking.
Pushing her way through the crowd, Professor McGonagall wasn’t surprised to see Fred and George Weasley at the center of this disturbance. Looking down, she found that the source of everyone’s amusement was a chicken.
“What in Merlin’s name is this?” she inquired, looking from one Weasley twin to the other. Apparently Professor Moody wasn’t the only person with a penchant for turning others into barnyard animals.

65. Ooze – Swamp-in-a-Can
Professor McGonagall hurried through the dungeons, making her way to Professor Snape’s office as quickly as possible. Arriving at the correct room, she entered his office through the slightly ajar door, announcing her presence by clearing her throat.
“Professor Snape, it seems that I’m in need of some assistance,” she began since her colleague made no move to stand. “The Weasley twins have cast some sort of spell turning the staircase into a rather disgusting swamp and there appears to be some sort of purple ooze everywhere,” she concluded with a sigh.
She never liked these visits to the dungeon.

42. Portraits – Personalized Insults Coming Your Way
Professor McGonagall hurried through the halls. She had never been late for a class in her entire life and she did not intend to end that streak now.
With a frustrated sigh, she started down the twisted section of halls that was the fastest way to her classroom. As usual, the portraits in this particular hallway began their usual heckling and rude comments. Not bothering to spare them a glance, she continued on her way.
As she turned the last corner between herself and her classroom, she couldn’t help but notice that she had arrived with two minutes to spare.

17. Cauldron – For Your Brewing Pleasure
There was a reason Minerva McGonagall was not a professor of Potions. While she was able to brew simple potions, the more complicated ones such as the one she was attempting to brew at the moment never failed to baffle her completely.
Taking another look at the instructions, she double checked that she had added the correct ingredients, in the correct amount, in the correct order. With a sigh, she realized that the cauldron she was using not made of pewter, the kind that was indicated in the directions.
Who knew the cauldron was that important? Certainly not Minerva McGonagall.

84. Angry – Plagiarism = Big No No
Few things irritated Minerva McGonagall as much as cheating. When she gave her students assignments, she expected to receive a few atrocious essays. But this time, Marcus Flint had crossed the line.
Pacing back and forth in front of her desk until Mr. Flint was sufficiently unnerved, she turned to face him.
“I will not tolerate cheating Mr. Flint. You will receive a zero for this assignment and a month’s detention,” she informed the boy. That should set him straight. If not, there was the option of a Quidditch suspension. An angry Professor McGonagall was not to be trifled with.

32. Common room – Happy Memories
The newly appointed Gryffindor Head of House, Professor Minerva McGonagall, stepped into the empty Common Room. It had been years since she had been inside the room, but it still had the same cozy feeling it had when she was a student.
The students were due to arrive that evening, but Minerva wanted a few minutes to herself before then. The Common Room being a familiar yet at the same time foreign place, she had chosen it for her temporary haven.
The familiarity of the room helped to steady her nerves, and Minerva left feeling optimistic about the coming year.

44. Ford Anglia – Lions and Tigers and Fords, Oh My!
Professor McGonagall stormed into the room after being summoned by Professor Snape. The Opening Feast was about to start and he had the nerve to call her away for what was most likely some trivial matter.
She came to a sudden stop when she spotted Ron Weasley and Harry Potter standing before a very imposing Professor Snape.
Before she could utter a word, Snape spoke. “These miscreants saw fit to fly to Hogwarts in a Ford Anglia. I trust you will see to it that they’re duly reprimanded?”
Professor McGonagall managed to nod silently, a horrified look on her face.

28. Timeturner – If I Could Turn Back Time
After much thought, Professor McGonagall had summoned Hermione Granger to her office. The poor girl looked so nervous, sitting ramrod straight in front of her.
“Miss Granger, due to the course load you have elected to pursue this year, the Headmaster has seen fit to grant you the privilege of a Timeturner,” Professor McGonagall began.
Professor McGonagall remained silent for a minute, allowing the seriousness of this responsibility to sink in.
“I trust you will take this matter seriously, Miss Granger, and you will not misuse this privilege,” she finished, nodding and placing the Timeturner on the desk between them.

48. Leprechaun – They’re After Me Lucky Charms
Never in her life had Minerva McGonagall been as shocked as she was at this moment. She pulled the bedcovers up higher and reached for her wand.
“Professor, you’ve got to help me! They’re after me Lucky Charms!” the petite man who had poofed into her bedchambers exclaimed.
Gathering her wits, Minerva pointed her wand at the man.
“Now there’ll be no need for that! We leprechauns are a peaceful people,” he explained, backing away.
Minerva’s jaw dropped and she lowered her wand. This was crazy. Everyone knew leprechauns weren’t real. But that didn’t explain the elfin man standing here.

55. Egg – Sunnyside Up, Please
Professor McGonagall took her seat at the Staff Table and looked out at the sea of faces before her. Her eyes traveled from the Slytherin table across the vast room to the Ravenclaw’s at the opposite end.
As she was reaching across the table for a pitcher of pumpkin juice, she heard a loud thud. Abandoning the pumpkin juice, she whirled around, searching for the disturbance.
“Professor Flitwick!” she exclaimed as she spotted her colleague on the floor.
“Watch out!” he shouted, pointing at something above her head.
Just as she looked up, eggs began to splatter all around her.

71. Untie – With Love, From Me To You
Christmas morning at Hogwarts was always accompanied with joyous shouts, laughter, and a fresh coating of snow. Professor McGonagall awoke to these sounds on the one day she allowed herself the luxury of sleeping in.
Sighing, she shook off the covers and stood. Instead of the usual carpet, her feet landed on a square package. Extremely puzzled, she reached down to pick it up, having no idea who it was from much less what it was.
With a frown, she untied the ribbon holding the wrapping in place. Her curious stare was met by that of a small fuzzy crup.
