25. Sorting Hat
Olivia's name was called. She froze momentarily, wondering what her future house was going to be. Which one? She took a deep breath, relaxed her posture, and approached the stool. She took a seat and the hat was placed on her head. Silence filled the room until the great Hat spoke. "A Holden, eh? I remember your brother. Very quiet at first but... extremely ambitious and bright..." Olivia fidgeted. She wondered what the hat was thinking. "Yes, I see now. You too seek answers just like your brother. More confident though. Hmm."

Silence. Her heart pounded against her chest.

"Gryffindor!"

SPLAT!

Olivia was drenched in paint. She glanced at her new robes and just stared for a moment. Then she narrowed her eyes at the person who had thrown the balloon at her. Matt Solo CLEARLY had a death wish and Olivia was going to take him down. First, she needed an ally. Before she could do anything else, she watched as Mr. Parole Officer, Tenacius Salander, hurled a balloon at Solo. YES! ENEMY HIT. Maybe he would be a worthy ally? She cheered and then noticed Ace headed towards her with a balloon.
"No, no, no!"

She ran.

Kneazle or Crup?

Rummaging through her pockets, she found her lucky quarter. Her brother, Simon, had found it on a trip to th US and had insisted on giving it to her as a good luck charm. Though it often served Olivia when it came to making difficult decisions like this one. Placing the quarter on her thumb, she took a deep breath and flipped it.

"Heads!"

Catching the coin, she turned to face the person that had called out to her and raised an eyebrow. Cute. Smirk.

That is how she met Tenacius Salander.

They were making popcorn! Huzzah. Popcorn sounded delicious. She hadn't eaten much that day as she had been in the library studying for most of it. After teaming up with Skylar, the two girls set about their individual tasks. Skylar would pop the popcorn and Olivia would melt the butter. Everything was going swimmingly nail the melted butter mixture decided to explode and fly everywhere. Covering Olivia's right wrist and drenching Skylar's dress.

Maybe water would work? She tried that. Wasn't useful. Then Skylar tried the cooling charm and ended up freezing herself to her dress. Oh no....

Panic ensued.

Simon and Olivia sat in Simon's flat. It was over Christmas break and Olivia was busy trying to do some potions studying. Her brother smirked, "oh potions. I'd tell you a chemistry joke but I wouldn't get a reaction."

Olivia looked up from behind her book, simply amused by her brother's pun. Simon laughed and then spoke up again. "What do you call Watson when Sherlock isn't around?" Silence. "Holmesless!"

Olivia sunk further into the couch to hide her smile. "Is the punnishment over?"

"Just getting started, Ols. It's punny."

Olivia had managed to snag a table in the middle of the classroom. It was the ideal position to have. Soon enough Etta joined her. They had crystal balls seated on the tables. So Olivia decided to take advantage of the situation.

"Ols...?"

"Predicting your future." She waved her hands over the crystal ball and closed her eyes. "Levi will be here soon." And she was right. Levi walked through the door right on time.

"Anyone could have seen that coming."

"Shhh, Olivia winked. "I also see that you'll share some chocolate with me."

They weren't alone. She heard cackling and then everything happened way too quickly. She didn't have time to duck or to save poor Carlton from the dungbombs. Peeves happened. He came in with a crash, creating a clattering noise and began terrorizing the first year. Carlton, not knowing how to deal with it, burst into tears whilst Olivia slipped on something slippery and hit her head really badly and hurt her arm too. She was going to teach Peeves a lesson. She didn't know how. She'd figure it out once she got up from the ground.

She needed a minute.

The first time that Olivia saw a thestral was during her fifth year at Hogwarts. She had gone to the stables after classes as she needed quiet time alone. She stopped in her tracks when she saw a creature that looked like a dark horse with wings. Magnificent creature it was. It must have been a thestral but.... Only people who have seen death can see thestrals.

A tear rolled down her cheek when she realized what day it was. It had been a year since her mother had passed. She missed her but wouldn't say anything to anyone.

Greatly.

Karaoke? Where was an invisibility cloak when she needed one? Olivia only sang in the shower. Sitting on the couch, she glanced at Etta and whispered, "Oh Merlin." Soon enough Noelle joined them too and the three of them watched their classmates go up. Ace went up and owned the stage. It was incredible. Olivia just sat there in awe of his stage presence. It was energizing. More classmates went up and it seemed like they were enjoying themselves. She was amazed.

"Olivia, will you sing with me?" asked Etta.

"Together?"

"Yes, together."

Now... what song?

She needed two more items on her shopping list and then she would be ready for school this upcoming fall. As she rounded the corner, she heard a loud cry and turned her head in the direction of the noise. Olivia found a young boy frantically waving his arms down the street. What was he saying?

FLYING SALAMANDERS?

Where were the flying salamanders? All Olivia saw was a cauldron charging towards her. She braced herself for impact and managed to catch the cauldron without it squishing her.

"Seems like you've got a runaway cauldron," she smirked.

Olivia felt awesome.

"Thanks," she grinned at Santa (Professor Marchand) as he passed her the candygram in class. She opened it up and read the note. What? Olivia blinked at the candygram. Erm. Her cheeks turned the slightest shade of pink. She was so pretty that she could make a veela jealous. It was from "It's a secret". Brighter pink coloured her cheeks. A secret admirer? Merlin. Olivia had never... Awkward. She pursed her lips and glanced around the room, trying to find possible suspects.

Olivia blinked. She had no clue who to start suspecting. Who could it be?

Brent, Oliver, .... Carlton....?

There was actually going to be a ball. A REAL BALL? She needed to find a dress, figure out her hair, do her nails, and.... She gulped. She needed to find a date. There was so much to do and so little time. But... A date? Olivia didn't know who she ought to ask. She did need a date exactly? No. Did she want one? Yes. Were her friends bringing dates? Etta totally was going to be with Levi. Noelle would probably have a ton of guys asking her. And her?

She had no clue.

Dress robes first. Boys later.

Olivia slumped into an open space on the couch beside Tory. Her bag hit the carpeted floor with a thud and then she sunk into the couch. Perhaps she could just hide away from all of her problems in here? Academic and personal? Okay? Okay.

"Rough day?" asked Tory as he continued to read.

"You could say that again," she smiled and glanced at his textbook. "Theoretical charms, hey? For pleasure or for studying?"

"No.. Never personal with charms. OWLs." Eyebrow raise. "What's got you down?"

"Ah OWLs strikes again." An excellent question, thought Olivia. "Ancient Runes. I'm very frustrated."

Merlin's Pride was the equivalent of their Yule Ball this year and it had been an interesting event. Olivia had danced with both Etta and Noelle and had run into handsome Ace. And then there was the comment about her dress which made her blush and then Melbourne had come over to check up on them. She had even called her muffin..... erm... OH EARNEST.

Then Ace reassured her about her looks and then.... If anything its me that has to worry and fend off other interested parties. What did he mean by that?

Confused, she was.

Olivia had a date! A date with Ace.

She had been searching through a crowd that had gathered in Hogsmeade around a small band that had started playing. Merlin. she wished she was taller then she could see over people. And then all of a sudden, Ace was in front of her. He looked incredible... as usual. But it really hit her at that moment that this was a date. No panicking...

When he took her hand into his, she knew that everything was going to be fine.

She wanted to remember this moment for a very long time.

Wearing her fluffy onesie, Olivia waited around the corner from the entrance into the Gryffindor Common Room with licorice wand in one hand ready to strike. Oh yes, she was after a particular female Prefect in fact. It was after all almost the first of April. Heh. Perfect. She even had taken the time to take some mascara and draw two horizontal marks across her cheeks. She had to get into character, y'know?

She summoned a pillow nonverbally when she heard the door creak.

"PILLOW FIGHT!"

Olivia had lost the pillow fight.

..... Still worth it.

Etta's warning came back into her mind. He's kissing someone else...

The words stung.

Immediately Olivia had wanted to know who he was kissing. Etta hadn't said whom the girl was. Was the information true? Of course, it was. It was Etta. Her friend dealt in facts. So it was true.

It'd probably be best to move on and ignore those feelings. Lock them up in a buried safe. Ignore. "How silly of me," she chuckled, wiping a tear away that had rolled down her cheek. "How could someone like him ever like someone like me?"

Olivia needed some advice and who better to ask than Noelle.

She caught Noelle up to speed on the situation. And soon enough, Noelle was drawing Olivia and her crush's name in the air with her wand. Olivia panicked. She waved her hands in front of it in a spazzy manner just in case anyone was watching. Oh Merlin. Whose face was as red as her scarf right now? Olivia's was.

"I'm not embarrassed... I.. I'm careful. Knowing my luck, he's right behind me... Right now!" Then she'd have to explain all of this to him calmly.

Quidditch + Flying ---> Gross.

Two things that Olivia DIDN'T enjoy. However, flying would improve her balance. She hadn't been looking forward to flying but once Jace Kennsington had offered to help her with it all, she perked up a bit. And he even often offered to catch her if she fell. She called him a gentleman because of that.

"I'm mostly a gentleman," he smirked suavely. Olivia's eyes widened in realization at the fact that JACE KENNSINGTON was practically a real life version of Flynn Rider.

James Bond = Flynn Rider = Prince Charming = Jace Kennsington.

Mind blown.

"You ought to tell him, Olivia........" said Tory when he noticed who Olivia was stealing glances at from across the room.

"No, I don't... can't..." She turned her attention to her textbook. Tory shrugged his shoulders and the two went back to studying for a few minutes. Perhaps Tory was actually study but Olivia didn't retain any of the information that she had read because her mind was focused elsewhere. All of a sudden, she stood up. She had chickened out for too long. "I'll be back."

"You got this," smiled Tory.

Arithmancy was a subject that Olivia struggled with. The concept evaded her. It just didn't make sense to her for some odd reason so she had owled her brother for some help. One morning at breakfast, an owl dropped a reply into her lap from him. Ah. Perfect, she thought. She quickly unfurled the letter and sighed when she read the response.

Arithmancy? Oh Merlin.... wrote her brother who then recounted his experience with Arithamncy and the very eccentric Professor that they had had. The one that had tried to bribe them with food.

Back to square one.

Olivia watched the second IMPS tournament through cracks of space between her hands. The Champions had to get to a room underneath the Whomping Willow but first they had to get past it somehow. "Come on Etta...Dora.. Levi.. Brent," she whispered to herself as she watched each of them and even some of the Illvermornians try to get past. She sucked in her breath when the Whomping Willow nearly took out one of the Illvermornians.

And then a scream from Etta caused Olivia to get to her feet. "ETTA!" Please be alright.

Pleaaaase....

Then she saw her. She was okay.

Olivia had, once again, been prepared to climb up the bookshelves to claim the book that she had her eye on; however, she had not expected Mr. Kennedy himself to appear. She didn't think he was the Librarian at first. He had looked too young but here he was. Oh. And he was offering her help? She'd gladly accept his most gracious offer. And then he did it. He summoned the books with a simple movement of his hand. No wand. No words.

"How did you do that?" she asked in awe. "Can I learn that?" Could he show her?

"Hey Olivia! If you want to come over and smell the Amortentia potion that I'm brewing you're more than welcome too!" said Mel with a happy smile.

Amortentia? she thought as she glanced up to see her friend and dormmate on the other side of the Potions Laboratory. "Sure!" Olivia was intrigued indeed.

Once the potion had been brewed, Olivia took a few steps towards the potion and then took a deep breath in. "I smell... leather.... Baked goods... No. A cinnamon apple desert. Salty sea air....Something else too." Huh. Strange. "What do you smell?"

WHY IN DUMBLEDORE'S PAJAMA PANTS WAS THE GRYFFINDOR TABLE SO CROWDED?

This must have been a fire hazard or something to have so many people so close together. The brunette was glad she was little because she was able to weave her way through the crowd, dodging people throwing at arms as the spoke and... DANCED? Were.... Were people actually dancing on the tables? What had they been....? Olivia had almost made it to a free spot on the table when she tripped (classic Professional Gravity Tester thing to do) and stumbled into someone.

Starting fifth year with a fall!

Melbourne and Olivia sat by the fireplace in the common room. They had started the night off together doing homework but slowly conversation changed to other things like future plans, being Australian, music, television series, boys, and dreams. She was gladdened that Mel had switched dormitories and had become her roommate.

A few younger years bolted into the room disturbing the peaceful moment. "Question for you two!"

"Of course. Shoot!" said Mel.

"Where do babies come from?"

Olivia raised her eyebrows, blushed, and paused. She panicked, hoping that Melbourne would take the lead. Fortunately, Mel did. Thank Merlin, she thought.

Simon had told her the news. She left the discussion silently and wandered up to her room. Olivia supposed that she should have been more upset by the death of her mother but she hadn't and that made her feel... awful. She closed the door to her room and sank onto the floor. She should have forgiven her. It wasn't her fault. A cruel accident had taken her mother away from her and left a woman who didn't even recognize her.

STOP! she told herself.

Her mother was dead. Nothing was going to change.

And words couldn't bring her back.

She remembered spending a day on the playground with Etta and Jacob. Olivia had just met Etta and the two were bonding over being transfer students when a boy had stumbled upon the conversation. He had awkwardly been watching them and Olivia decided to call him over. Why not?

"Hey! What are you up to over there? Want to come join us?" He was practically standing next to the two of them. He joined and the three began conversing. And Jacob wasn't so awkward after all.

Olivia beamed. It was a memory that she'd have forever.

She found him! "Happy Birthday!" she smiled as she presented him with a present.

"For me?" asked Ace. Olivia nodded, watching his reaction as he opened it. She loved his reaction.

Did he just.... ? Oh yes, he did kiss her on the cheek.

Sparks.
Fireworks.
Woah.

She took a risk and then kissed him on the lips. "I..." She was unsure of what he was going to do. Would he awkwardly tell her that he was seeing someone or...? Then he kissed her back gently.

He did just kiss her. "Wow..." Vi was bright red now too.

Her first kiss.

Olivia Holden was going to be very late for an important meeting. Sure, it wasn't super important but she should have been in the library fifteen minutes ago. Thus the girl began bolting down the stairs. She was about to cross the stairs up to the next floor when the staircases moved. WOAH! She caught herself form falling and began muttering words that would have made Simon blush.

"Everything okay there, Olivia Holden?"

She turned and found Levi Kenning standing there. IMPS Champion and all. He knew her name even.

"Levi... Hey!"

Awkward Olivia was awkward.

Yes, she gave the most Gryffindor answer ever but Olivia was proud of it. #gryffindoring, one might say. Not only was she proud of it because she showed her true colours but also because of the Professor's reaction. Professor hearthrob Hirsch seemed to enjoy her answer. Heh. Surely he hadn't been expecting such an answer or perhaps he had? She began to lean over to the left to whisper to Etta about her triumph when she realized that Etta was not sitting next to her today. Instead Etta was on the other side of the classroom. So. Far. AWAY.

Bummer.

Did someone say SLUMBER PARTY!?

Olivia was so stoked to be spending the night out with Melbourne, Noelle, Ava, Sammy, and the rest of her housemates. The night began with chatting and laughing until a wicked smirk pressed onto Noelle Summers lips.

She eyed Olivia. "Truth or dare?"

Truth, she had wanted to say. Instead, she had said. "Dare." Then she immediately regret such a decision.

"I dare you to ask a Professor to dance."

Panic ensued within Olivia's heart. She didn't want to give the guy she liked the wrong impression. Besides, which Professor would she ask?

Etta versus Olivia. Dueling Club. Let's go. Fight.

Of course the two would be opponents. Of course. It was simply Olivia's luck to have her best friend be her opponent. Though dueling with a friend was better than dueling a foe. Besides it proved fun to duel against Etta. Her best friend was a talented witch indeed. Prefect material. As she readied an offensive spell, Olivia couldn't help but be wowed by Etta's confidence in dueling and in everything actually... Calm, intelligent, poised, confident, wonderful, beautiful, kind. Levi was lucky.

Henrietta Kramer would achieve greatness.

Vi admired her. A lot.

Arms linked, Olivia strode side by side with Noelle Summers across the promenade of the Merlin's Pride. Her eyes scanned the deck, looking for either a certain brunette or a curly haired Gryffindor but she found neither. She was brought away from her own thoughts when Noelle asked her a question. No. Not a question. A statement. A dare. Vi blinked. Had she really just dared her to do THAT?

"Olivia Holden, I dare you to ask a Professor to dance."

She was not one to turn down a dare. Right. Where was Healer Reed or Hirsch? Hello?

Temporary tattoo. Vi eyed her tattoo in the mirror. The curved arrows on the inside of her wrist. The Malin. Perseverance. She had never thought that she would actually get a tattoo regardless of it being temporary or not. She had always been dead set against it. That was something her elder brother would have done and something that her parents, especially her mother, would have disapproved of greatly.

She remembered getting it done and being terrified of the needles there. Though between Ace's comforting smiles and Dory's reassuring words, she was able to relax and just let it... happen.

Her ideal date?

It was a picnic underneath the stars. A good place could be by the Astronomy tower or by the Igloo. Watching the stars with good company and delicious food seemed like a perfect date to her. She could just talk for hours with the person that she cared so much for and enjoy their company. Then gazing up into the stars, trying to find stories behind the heavens that laid above them sounded magical. To see stars that were further away and harder to see, they could use the telescope there.

A perfect night with perfect company.

"Isn't Marcus like us?" she asked with a curious glance to Simon. Her eldest brother surely had to be like them, right? It had to run in the family. Was their father a wizard? Their mother couldn't have be .... right?

Simon shook his head. "No. Marcus is a muggle." He sighed. "He doesn't have our powers."

"You mean magic?"

Simon nodded. "It's like this... Muggles are..."

Muggle? Olivia stared at Simon when he told her about muggles in more detail. They were muggleborn? She frowned. What a strange word. "Muggle." It sounded weird when she spoke those words. "Muggle."

Normal.

Or Headmistress...

Start of Term Feast. Here she sat across from Noelle and Olly and near Tenacius and Sammy. As soon as the Headmistress began to speak, she noticed how the boys at her table were ALL drawn to her. Merlin. She was beautiful and intimidating... and American? She hadn't expected that. Olivia stared with awe and then found herself gazing across the table. Her eyes stopped on one Professor in particular. "Professor Hirsch..." murmured Noelle to Olivia and a few girls giggled.

"He seems popular here.."

Why were the Professors so attractive here? Was it a requirement or something?

"Where to?" asked Olivia with a wide grin as she and Vivian headed down one of the numerous aisles in Sugarplums.

"Marshmallows. We need to find those first."

Okay. Noted. Marshmallows first. The two girls weaved through the shop, past children and adults alike, until they finally found what they were looking for. Knowing Olivia's luck, of course, it was on the top shelf. "I don't think we can reach that..." frowned Olivia. And they couldn't use magic over the summer out of school. She'd have to climb up there.

"I'll go find the shopkeeper!"

Oh right. No climbing necessary.

"She looks so weird. Know it all," sneered a couple of her classmates as she walked past in the corridor of Beauxbatons. They saw her walking past and just glared.

She quickened her place until she turned around the corner, there she let the tears fall. Footsteps quickened behind her and she felt arms around her. "Don't listen to them, ma cherie," whispered Ophelia, her true friend.

"How can I not?"

"You must school yourself, Livia. They are not like us." Ophelia touched her friend's chin, raising it up. "We are fighters. Be confident. Persevere."

Olivia nodded. "You're right."

Persevere.

Portraits.

Vi remembered the first time that she had laid eyes on the portraits. She had been terrified for she had never seen one move or speak to her before. She had thought it was some type of animation that one saw in muggle museums but no- there was no projector. She would spend time talking with the Fat Lady, the guard keeper of her common room, just to hear tales throughout her years living at Hogwarts. There were so many tales left unspoken but at least Hogwarts could capture some of home in their portraits.

Vi took just one step outside of her common room to find the most distasteful posters. She noticed the picture of the girl on it and gasped. Skylar? Reading the poster just made her blood pressure rise and her cheeks flush red with anger. Rumours. She hated rumours so very much especially when they had to do with her friends. And Skylar was such a nice girl.... She'd never cheat on her boyfriend, right? Not like that.... It didn't seem in Skylar's nature.

Though sometimes things happened, right?

Vi tore down a few posters, setting them on fire.

Or flight. Vi had entered the tunnel into the alternate Hogwarts and had found herself there with a couple of other students. Carl, Brent, Tenacius (her Ace), Zoryn, Leon, Kitty, and ickle Carlton. They heard a growl. Spells were tried. Nothing worked. The group began bolting towards the portal's entrance to return home. The heavy footsteps of the monster followed them until a light enveloped Vi and she found herself falling head first onto the floor.

However, she didn't touch the ground. Instead the monster was behind her, ready to devour...

Stricken. Vi screamed. She jumped up. "Only a dream."

Did the Gryffindor Prefect's patrols usually lead him down the dungeons or was this just an excuse to be alone with her? Hmm... They had just passed the Potions classroom and now were headed down past the secret passageway and further into the dungeons. The lights on the side of the wall were becoming more sparse.

"It's just around here..." said Ace as he lead the way. A few moments later, they spotted a staircase across the way from them.

She saw something slither. "Watch out!" cried Vi, grabbing onto Ace, to stop him from walking near whatever was ahead.

"Come on, Chewie!" called Vi as she headed down the hallway in her brother's small flat. She heard two pairs of padded light footsteps. "Chewie" She called again as she slipped on her shoes whilst trying to hold her balance. She was going to be late to work if he didn't hurry up for his walk. The padded footsteps became lighter and lighter until she saw a blanket wrapped cruppy sliding into the room and running into her. The crup knocked her over and bam! Vi fell on the floor with Chewie licking her.

Vi laughed. "Okay, let's go. Walk."

Vi and Tory had been preparing for OWLs. They had started with Charms and then had worked their way through all of their options until they ended on Ancient Runes. By the time the sun was beginning to rise, Vi had fallen asleep on the couch. She had been dressed in a sweater and sweatpants; however, when she woke up, she found that there had been a blanket covered over her. She blinked and sat up slowly from her nap. Vi turned to glance around her to see if anything was different. Nope.

Everything was the same as before.

Yawn.

Halloween it was and the castle was busy getting dressed up. Vi had forgotten to choose a costume until the day before Halloween so she had decided to dress all in green and pretend to be a leprechaun. Leaving the common room, she ran directly into Jace Kennsington dressed as the dashing Flynn Rider.

"Your halloween costume?" he asked with eyebrows raised as he looked her up and down as if her costume was simply not to be.

"What?"

With a flick of his wand, he changed her costume and then handed her a mirror. "There, you are your Highness."

"Can't catch me, Solo!" cried Olivia as she taunted her fellow housemate from across the common room turned battlefield. They were in the midst of an epic paint fight. The one that usually happened at the beginning of the year. Oh. She needed to hide now. Vi saw the paint balloon coming towards her. Vi turned, ready to run, when she ran straight into Zoryn Spinnet. Luckily the younger girl was able to get away but Olivia wasn't. Matt's balloon hit her, splattering her clothes in a rusty red. "By Merlin's.."

"That colour suits you, Holden!" cackled Solo.

Vi fumed.

Vi began pacing back and forth by the Lake with Etta and Ava seated on the ground. "I just don't know," she said at first. What to do... What to do... Ask someone to the ball? "Etta, you're bringing Levi to the ball... Ava, you're bringing Philip..."

"You could ask Lachlan Wheeler to go to the ball," reminded Etta.

Noelle walked over with a smirk. "Or she could ask our dear friend the Gryffindor Prefect..."

Vii blushed but quickly turned the conversation around. "That's a brilliant idea. Noelle, do you want to go to the ball with me?"

Noelle giggled.

Olivia had been the first one to arrive at the Gryffindor table for the start of term feast. Her stomach began to growl. Merlin. She should have eaten more on the train but she hadn't had the appetite. However, soon enough she was joined Ava. "Ava!" she beamed. "How's it going?" Her tummy grumbled again, causing her cheeks to redden.

"Very well. I had a great summer," said Ava and noted Vi's stomach growling. "Cookie?" Then the wonderful Gryffindor girl offered Olivia not one but a whole box of cookies to choose from.

"Thanks!" she beamed and took a cookie.

Olivia slowly emerged from the dark wooden confines of the wardrobe to find herself nearly blinded by bright light. She stood on something soft and damp. She squinted and she stopped to allow her eyes to adjust. It took a few moments but then she gaped at the beautiful view in front of her. "WOAH," she said, watching as her exclamation produced vapor into the air. She glanced around the area. The trees were draped in icy blankets, the ground was covered in snow, and snowflakes gently landed on her hair before melting into nothing.

She was Lucy Pensieve Pevensie.

Simon was a car shopping and had asked Olivia to help her. Vi didn't know the first thing about cars so as she accompanied Simon on this adventure. On the other hand, Simon seemed quite sure of his ability to negotiate. "What type of car should I get?" asked Simon as they walked past various models with really cool gadgets. "What do you think?"

"I like those ones," said Vi, pointing to a row of cars. "But you could always go old school and get a Ford Angila like the Weasley's had."

Simon smirked. "Do they even make those anymore?"

Vi couldn't help but still dream about the comical moment at Merlin's Pride that she had witnessed. Tenacius had said some things that made her blush and not no what to say. He had even shouted out to Mel. And Mel had heard it and had come over to save the day with spell-o-tape in hand. She warned Ace and then added, "here if that comment made you feel…unsure"

And then Ace had said something and then Mel's long name. WOAH. Olivia just stared. She was just in awe of Mel's awesome name and beautiful self.

Girl crush.

She had started going to see Professor Marchand for extra guidance on non-verbal and wandless magic. It had intrigued her and she had to accomplish it. Vi carefully listened to Professor Marchand as he explained the brief theory behind it and got her to start working on it with the chocolate bowl in front of her. First she had to master the non-verbal portion. It took her several tries but finally she was able to move the chocolate an inch off of the bottom of the bowl.

Vi felt drained by such an action but the Professor cheered.

Vi smiled at the younger years as they explained how excited they were to learn about all the magical things. "Magic is amazing. Just wait until we get to Hogwarts and walk into the Great Hall...." Her smile grew larger as she thought of her first Start of Term Feast ever. The candles floating effortlessly. Crowded tables. The wise Sorting Hat. Gryffindor. Familiar faces. Tenacius. Matt. Noelle. Olly. Her mind focused on one person in particular and she grinned. "The people you'll meet there will hopefully make the whole experience even more magical." She hoped that they would love it.

It was all complicated, wasn't it?

The "it" being life. The next step in life. Finding universities and majors... Finding out what she wanted to do with her rest of her life. She ought to have listened to her brother, Simon, before getting to this stage. He had always been prepared. Academia had been his world. And Vi? She was unsure of what she wanted. What would become of her and Ace? She bit her lip as she glanced up at the constellations seeking an answer.

"Can any of you give me a clue as to what I should do?"

First patrol of the year. Too bad she wasn't with Ace but Erik, the Ravenclaw, would do. She had split off from him to go check out the Armour Gallery. Taking a few steps into the room, Vi felt a chill crawling up her spine as if something... like a spider was there. Reaching behind her, she touched her back with a tentative hand and found.... nothing.

Hmm.. Weeeeeeird.

Lowering her wand, she put it away and then began walking out of the room until she stopped all of a sudden. There was a noise.

What... What WAS that?

"Helloooooooooo?"

Vi folded her arms, upset by Zita's example because she didn't know whether or not she should trust whether the girl would do that, considering that she had kissed Derf at the feast.... Yes, if she even tried to make a move on Tenacius or try casting a spell for "practice", then there would be consequences. Oh yes, severe consequences. Be careful young Snake, don't do it unless you'd like this Gryffindor to cast a certain jinx on you or.. or what? She blanked. She couldn't exactly transform the girl into a goblin or something.

Eyes gleamed. Ooooooor could she?

YOU.

She was distracted momentarily by the statement. Huh? Her? Vi glanced around her and saw that no one was talking to her. What was going on and where was that coming from? She picked up her basket and rounded the corner to find Flynn confronting... Cassie? She rushed over with basket hung around her right arm. Hopefully Flynn wasn't getting himself into another sticky situation.....

"What's going on?" she asked, ready to tell either one of them to chill when..... Flynn just stared and Cassie just continued to paint.

Okay then.... "I'll send a patronus to get a Professor..."

Then everything just exploded. ZAP!

Instead of using a freezing spell, Flynn was physically restraining Cassie who seemed to have regain some sort of herself and now was yelling for help. Oh Merlin. What a scene Kowlaski and she had made.... And then...

"Someone explain, NOW!"

It only got worse with Professor Noble's arrival. Oh Merlin. She was still slightly terrified of the man since the potions class that he had sternly told her Ace, the HB, what was up. Vi spilled the beans and explained the situation.

Flynn nodded. "Yep, what she said."

Now... Would Noble believe them?

.....Hopefully.

Dufftown. Spring Semester of Hogwarts. People were acting strange. Was anyone... like her? Not under a spell?

And the Prefect was swept up into a hug by the Slytherin Captain? Thank goodness for Skylar being there. Vi eagerly returned her friend’s hug with a hug of her own. However, there wasn’t much time to catch up. Instead what in Merlin was happening here?

And then she heard HIS voice. Ace?

Yeahs expose....

Oh NO. He was possessed too. Those Williams twins had... Wait. She replayed what Ace had said. Yeah expose struggles!.... Women's equality!...

He wasn't under the spell.

"Ace!"

They were on a journey to find some fire seeds with Professor Myers. Vi stayed close to Brent and Skylar as they made their way through the forest and towards the caves. They had to follow a specific set rules of harvesting said fireseeds; otherwise, they would burn themselves. Dragonhide gloves on, Vi set her mind to the task and reached for the plant, beginning to wiggle it loosely before she heard a yelp behind her. She stopped and felt the heat against her finger tips as she turned her gaze to find Skylar trying to put out a fire.

She heard something rustling. The rustling noise sent shivers down her spine as she heard it approach her. Umm... Some creature? A snake or something? Vi turned around, casting a non-verbal Lumos. Her blue eyes widened as she saw a snake or something moving in a snake like fashion... slithering towards her. A yelp escaped her lips and she jumped. She tried to recover her balance by moving her feet quickly but alas she landed on the side of her foot and heard a nice clicking noise. "Ow.. Ow. Ow.. Ow..." she winced and fell onto her knees. "Show yourself."

She closed her eyes, clutching the necklace closer to her neck. Thankfully she had the whole Prefect's Compartment to herself.

Then the silence evaporated when Ace came in with plenty of food. How had he managed that? She blinked, watching him place all the various types of food about the compartment. The boyfriend def needed some help but he managed everything by himself. Impressive. And he even he explained what his wonderful idea was. Invite those who had never stepped in foot in the compartment an opportunity. "Absolutely brilliant, love."

"Ace..." Err... Never mind. Now was perhaps not the time..

Vi squeezed Ace's hand and she watched him cast a concerned glance her way. I'm fine, she mouthed, as she fought back the incoming tears. She smiled as Mel made a comment about Kirk and Matt pulled a face. Before she could say anything else, she saw Professor Marchand made his way over to the table. Vi could feel herself shaking and thus hid her face in Ace's chest, hugging him close. Hopefully he couldn't feel her shaking. "Vi, babe," she heard him whisper. She glanced up and then he kissed her forehead. "S'okay." There were tears in his eyes.

If she had a time turner, she would always try to go back and enjoy her teenage years at Hogwarts though she would always have to go through a painful memory.

Marchand glanced down and she felt her chin begin to wobble. They had been through a lot. Beauxbatons. She took a step forward and hugged him. Tears streamed.

After giving him the hug, Olivia took a step back, wiping tear stained cheeks. She hadn't planned on crying. She really hadn't. "Thank you... for everything... But it's not goodbye.... We say a la prochaine instead!"

"A la prochaine" He smiled.

"MATT!" she shrieked, casting lumos when she stood above her fellow housemate. Oh yeah. She was not impressed and Chewie would be hearing about this. Vi smirked all of a sudden as she pointed her wand towards him. "Titillando," she smirked. Heh.

A little payback was appropriate, yes... but he blocked it which made her frown even more. She couldn't believe Matt was just here on the floor of the Forbidden Forest laughing his butt off. Vi had to restrain herself from slapping him. "You should've seen your face!"

She folded her arms, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, Skywalker?"

"It's Solo!"

"Vi, do you think a parseltongue would be good at snogging?" asked Mel.

The question made Vi blush. "err... I don't...know..."

"Maybe Ace knows! Hey Ace!"

She sunk deeper into the book until Vi heard. "Hiding, I see?"

Vi met Ace's blues. "Mel was talking about snogging..."

He raised his eyebrows paired with a mischievous smile. "Oh, she was?"

Mel interrupted. "Yes, Ace, does it have anything to do with Slytherin heritage?"

Ace pursed his lips.

Tory answered. "Being a parseltongue or a good snogger? We ought to ask Vi."

Vi tossed the nearest pillow at Tory but she missed.

Right by the fireplace, Vi sat with a goblet filled with water in front of her and her wand at the ready. She had to transfigure this into.... "You're still working on that?" asked Mel. "Is someone distracting you?"

Silence.

"It's a boy, isn't it, muffin?"

".............................................Uh."

"It's Ace, huh?"

Bright red. "Oh...uh... what makes you say that?"

"Ace is my bestie. I can tell when he likes someone. And you are pretty easy to read yourself."

Vi hid herself in her textbook. "I wish I could transfigure my face."

"Don't think that's possible, Vi," tutted Mel with a chuckle.

“Getting some sun in? ” asked a friendly, suave voice before she felt a nudge. “Or secretly spying on someone?"

She knew that voice. It had once made her heart do flips and make her knees tingly. Jace. She had had a crush on him in their first year but now considered him a good friend. He was married now and she... She was in love.. She thought.

"Hardly spying," she grinned. "I'm playing a game." The soon to be seventh year lowered her sunglasses and eyed her mate as she leaned in and quietly asked, "Care to join?"

“Always."

Vi had agreed to help Etta shop for a Christmas gift for her boyfriend. As they walked around the shops in a small Scottish village, Etta linked her arm with Vi's and asked, "So what should I get for Levi?"

"Uh.. I don't know.. I'm horrid at shopping for gifts... especially couple-y ones. I've never really had a serious boyfriend. Chocolate? Socks? Chocolate socks?"

"Socks?"

"Yeah, character ones could be a smash."

Etta chuckled and then shook her head. "Say, Vi. What would you get for....Jace? Don't you have a crush on him?"

"I..."

"You guys would be very cute."

"No boy updates here. I doubt the guy that I like even know that I exists," Vi said with a chuckle. Well he did know that she existed... they were friends but still... she didn't know if he even liked her in that way.

"Who do you like??"

She whispered his name.

Etta looked surprised. "First.. do you really, really like him? Or are you open to meeting other nice boys too?"

"I don't know... He's a lot of fun and he's a great friend and..." She paused. "I don't even know if he feels the same way. It's silly."

"Hey, Name Twin!"

Vi tore her gaze away from the plaque in front of her with all the names of previous Prefects and Head Boys and Girls to find Oliver standing there. "Hey! Oliver! Good to see you. How was your summer?" Her Name Twin was here. This was great! She beamed and hugged him.

They chatted for a while and then Oliver mentioned that he was also in Wandlore.

"Really? This is going to be epic!" Tough but epic. "You're going to have to give me some insider tips from Ollivanders!"

"Only if you make me coffee, Miss Barista."

Vi needed to find her pair of dragonhide gloves for class. She had left them somewhere in Ace's flat. She began searching underneath the pillows on his couch in his flat.

"Did you look in your bag, babe?" asked Ace from the kitchen.

She nodded. "I don't know where I could have left them..." Vi pouted.

He placed the two cups of tea down on the coffee table and then his eyes widened when he saw them. Placing them behind his back, he smirked."I know where they are."

She arched an eyebrow. "Ace..." She chuckled.

"That'll be one kiss, m'lady."

The train ride into London had certainly been boring. Vi had left her book at her, Etta, and Prim's flat. So she spent the majority of her time people-watching and wondering what was in store for her this upcoming year. Her first year at university was finally here.

She glanced down at her hands and felt as if she was about to fall asleep from how bored she felt but fought it. She feared if she fell asleep then she would miss her stop and then she'd be late for class.

She couldn't be late on her very first day.

Yodeler 1 had begun when Etta leaned over and had asked to sing with her. Together. They would sing.

Vi nodded. Before they had chosen a song, they had been called on.

Etta looked anxiously at Vi.

"I'll figure out a song. Follow my lead, okay?" she said and glanced out to the audience, feelin her knees becoming incredibly weak until her eyes found calm blue ones. She felt relieved. Taking a deep breath, she relaxed and just sang "Head under water, and they tell me to breathe easy for a while. The breathing gets harder, even I know that."

Toddles' needsed to hides. Hides from Algamus. Toddles had founds a way to avoids his fellows; however, he overshot and then founds a few studensties to hide behind. Two of them were girls talking in hushsed whispers. Sayins things about dates with boysies. Yuck.

Then two sets of eyes were peering down at him. OH NOES! He was caughts.

"Toddles?" asked one of the girls who had dark straight brown hair.

"Toddles didnts mean it. He was hidins.."

"From who?"

"Chores?" mused the Prefect.

"C'mon Vi... Toddles' is responsible...."

Vi gave her friend a look. "Mel."

"Somewhat responsible," giggled Mel.

The owl had arrived on one late Saturday morning when Sammy, Mel, and Vi were enjoying a brunch. The owl lazily soared above the student''s heads until it dropped the letter in Vi's hand.

"A letter? From a secret admirer?"

Sammy eyed Vi curiously.

"It's just from my brother... I'd imagine."

"Your brother? What's he like?"

"A nice Slytherin?"

"Woah. You're brother was in Slytherin?"

She smiled. "Slytherin and proud."

"I have a Slytherin relative too..." spoke Ace. "Mind if I join?" He slid into the seat next to Vi and then proceeded to pet the owl.

"Please," nodded Sammy.

"Tory, have you seen my quill?" asked Vi as she walked further into the common room after exiting the dormitory. She had gotten up from her studying to go look for it but couldn't find hers.

"Vi, you can borrow mine if you want."

She took a seat. "Thanks," she said, taking his offer. With that, they began studying their Ancient Runes but Vi soon got distracted by her own thoughts about where her quill could be.

Tory noticed this and inquired, "What's so special about that quill anyway?"

Vi smiled softly, "It was my first purchase in Diagon Alley."
