It's hard to tell which sense hits you first, the sound of all the different creatures or the smell of them. Either way, you realize that there is a magical petting zoo just behind one of the rides long before the place becomes visible. In front of an enchanted tent is a medium sized enclosure that contains an array of young magical creatures. Transforming rabbits, crups, nifflers, puffskeins, and knarls are just a few of the creatures enclosed in this pin. There must be some shield charms in place as the baby clabberts climbing the enclosure can't seem to escape, not that they've stopped trying. The charms won't keep you from heading in through the gate to play with these cuddly creatures though, and you're more than welcome to!
For a sickle one can get a small bag of treats from the carnie stationed behind the small kiosk by the tent entrance. The tent itself contains a couple of creatures a bit older and more dangerous than the those found in your local pet store. And if you're old enough, the carnie will grant you entrance. Stop trying to figure how they acquired these creatures, and take a look around at the augureys, streelers, and two young three-headed dogs, each in their own large enclosure. Wild winged-horses take residence in the center enclosures, hooves occasionally stomping the dirt in agitation.
Do you risk petting them? No. The charms prevent it for the ones that bite atleast, and one will even alert the carnie so he can kick you out for messing with his creatures. But do enjoy walking the through the circular tent if allowed in, and enjoy the enclosure out front as well.

He looked away from Mr. Balloon and back to the girl when she spoke up, unaware of how Juju Bee's words had affected the girl. The jarvey did get a look though, last thing he needed was to chase her around the carnival. "Yes! Feed them. My treats are the best you see." He opened one of the bags and picked out one of the small crackers. "They LOOK like regular crackers, but I baked them myself so that the taste is different to each creature. All depends on the taste buds." He was rambling about stuff the girl probably didn't care about.
"Lucky for you, I'm only chargin one shiny sickle per bag." He flicked the treat over to Juju, who caught it with her paws.

Okay, WHUT was that smell? A pair of green-blue eyes danced around the surroundings accusingly. Someone must have farted, and Paulie knew very well that it was not him. But... oh. Oh, right. There was a magical petting zoo situated here right before his eyes, that was the source of this stench!
Eh, now knowing that no one had flatulated, Paulie somehow didn't mind the odor so much, and he decided to venture over to the cages with the smaller creatures. He smiled a bit as he looked down at a transforming rabbit. Heh. Cute lil buggers..

Adam turned and spotted the source of the nose, and couldn't stop a small smirk from playing across his lips as he noticed the kid looking around for the source of the smell. The kid looked to be about his age, and perhaps with some luck he might go to Hogwarts as well. "You adapt to the smell after a little while," Adam said to the kid, before leaning against the gate to watch the same puffskein still try to transform.

But he did have some good knowledge of the fading of creature scents, so that was probably Paulie's reasoning. Whatwhatwhat? A good job..? This? Paulie contorted his facial muscles and shook his head. " No way. Not for me, at least. I've already got enough trouble trying to get girls to like me; I don't need this smell sticking to my clothes and scaring off all of 'em!" Heh.
It was true, though. The workers were probably well used to the smells of dirty creatures and animal dung. Or maybe their olfactory senses were failing them..
Right! Names. Paulie nodded when he introduced himself as Adam, then shook his hand as he did the same. " Cool, cool.. I'm Paulie. Nice to meet ya." When they finished their hand-shake, he dropped his arm to the side again. " So, where do you go to school? I'm going to Hogwarts this term.. used to go to Beauxbatons."

Right! Names. Paulie nodded when he introduced himself as Adam, then shook his hand as he did the same. "Cool, cool.. I'm Paulie. Nice to meet ya." When they finished their hand-shake, he dropped his arm to the side again. "So, where do you go to school? I'm going to Hogwarts this term.. used to go to Beauxbatons." "Oh...no offense taken," Adam said with a little shrug of the shoulders. He wasn't surprised that the boy would think so; after all Adam was dressed a little roughly this morning with a plain grey t-shirt, a pair of dirty jeans that probably needed to go in the trash, and a pair of black boots. Although he wasn't wearing any makeup and that definitely seemed to be a requirement for the job.
Adam turned to look at kid with a somewhat amused expression as he justified not wanting the job for fear it would prevent him from getting any girls. "Perhaps if you could find a way to block the smell from yourself this job might actually come in handy. After all girls love animals right, and I think you'd be hard pressed to find one that doesn't think that is cute," Adam said, pointing his finger towards a baby rabbit that was hopping around the same struggling puffskein he'd been staring at moments ago. "Although I imagine doing the same thing day in and day out might get a little mundane," Adam said, his brows furrowing slightly. Animals were great and all but they didn't usually veer from their routines.
Adam shook Paulie's hand with a little smile, shoving his hands into his pockets once Paulie's arm had fallen back to his side. "I'm actually going to Hogwarts for the first time myself," Adam said, glad he'd found a male from his year to talk to. "I went to a couple different wizarding schools in the States before my parents moved us here." So he was from Beauxbatons? Maybe he knew Lilly-Anne.... "I actually met a girl in Diagon Alley a few days ago that's coming to Hogwarts from Beauxbatons. Her name is Lilly-anne but I uh, didn't catch a last name."

Keep the change! Like he'd planned on giving any back. Jethro Doge didn't give back change, but he wouldn't say that to the girl since she was being so nice. "Thank you, missy!" Jethro handed her the open bag. "Now, go on and feed the creatures. Feed 'em till their little bellies are full." Not that that was possible, but she sure could try.

Chewing gum was her favorite. California stared at her surroundings. EW. Animals. Lots of them. And they SMELLED. She stared at the children hanging around along with the adults.

"I went to a couple different wizarding schools in the States before my parents moved us here." So he was from Beauxbatons? Maybe he knew Lilly-Anne...."I actually met a girl in Diagon Alley a few days ago that's coming to Hogwarts from Beauxbatons. Her name is Lilly-anne but I uh, didn't catch a last name." Paulie gave a nod, glad that Adam wasn't sensitive about his previous comment. Some guys could get real defensive about stuff like that. Usually the snobs.
Huh. Apparently his new acquaintance found Paulie's inability to woo girl FUNNY. Naww, Paulie returned a lazy smile and shrugged in an 'it's the truth' sort of way. He listened, then, to the boy's suggestion. Hmm. Hmmmm. That actually wasn't a half-bad idea. Girls did love animals, huh? He contemplated this for a moment. " Good point, buddy. I'm sure there is probably a spell out there to block the stink.." And the circus..? Well, maybe that wouldn't quite work. Seemed like an awful lot of moving around, and Paulie Foster was only fifteen and schoolbound. " Yeah, true. I'd get bored in a few days."
Aha, so Paulie had managed to meet another guy who was headed to Hogwarts. Not that this would be too uncommon in Diagon Alley right before the start of school, but this was different 'cause Paulie was actually in the process of, hopefully, becoming friends with this bloke. " Oh yeah? And your year, then?" By the sound of it, Adam seemed to have been quite the traveler. With.. schools, that is. Briefly, he wondered why his family moved him around so much, but he decided he could save that question for another time. " I've never been to the States," he added casually. " So, why'd you come here?" Maybe this would answer, even partly, the question that had previously crossed his mind, too.

After making a quick trip home to drop of her shopping, Seren returned to Diagon Alley to check out the Carnival. She was rather looking forward to seeing Edvard again, and so she headed over to the Petting Zoo to meet him.
She checked the pendant watch that hung around her neck. Oh good she wasn't late.
Looking over the low fence, Seren observed the adorable creatures before her. Crups... so cute!!! ...
It almost made her wish she had a pet.
But pets and Flesh-Eating plants didn't mix very well... so she'd probably give it a miss.

"My parents' job. They're muggles, but they're very well known in the Real Estate community." Adam gave the boy a look to imply that yes it was just as boring as it sounded. "Their job was a main reason why we traveled so much back in the states too...I guess the other partners at their company thought they were their strongest relators so they basically shipped us all over the place." In all honesty Adam wasn't really a fan of what his parents did since they mostly just associated themselves with the wealthiest people in whatever area they happened to be with. Adam kept out of their business, mostly because he wasn't interested but also because his parents thought that having a kid made them look less professional....Adam didn't understand that but.... "Are you going into your fifth year as well?" Adam asked.

"Youse guise dun't want to play cahds?" She eyed them all, gum smacking to the roof of her mouth, still making the snapping noise. Was there something wrong? Who didn't like playing cards?
Eyeing a stool just outside of the gated area full of the filthy animals, she grabbed it and laid her cards down on top of it. They didn't want to play? She'd play by herself. Solitaire for now.

Hence, he had a feeling that he wouldn't be choosing any career pathway that involved creatures.

And if Adam's rents were that good, then the kid must be pretty loaded. It was strange, then, that Adam wasn't a rich snob. Not that Paulie was complaining, of course; he liked the guy. When he said that he hadn't been able to extract many details about the girls' life, Paulie simply gave another shrug. " Well, if she's transferring to Hogwarts too, you'll have the whole schoolyear to find that stuff out." If she was transferring, that is.
Paulie glanced over at some carnie person. Carnies kinda freaked him out sometimes. But this one didn't seem too freaky, so he turned to Adam again. " Wanna play cards with the carnie?"
