Amazon.com: A Northern Light (9780152167059): Jennifer Donnelly: Books

Smiling, she nodded her head and reached out for the book with her free hand. "Thanks," she murmured absently as her eyes went to the book in her hand. With the hand that held Sabel's hostage, she used it to flip through the book with as much curiosity as she could muster, the headmaster's EYEBALL was a bit distracting. Only a bit though, she KNEW how to behave in public.

"This is a really interesting book..." She didn't know the younger girl's name. Pity. With her free hand she returned the book. "Might have to pick it up when we get back to the castle. I'm Arya by the way." She smiled.

Charley sat patiently as the girl took the book and paged through it, then took it back, reverting to holding it nervously in her lap.
She mustered a small smile, continuing to purse her lips simultaneously. It grew larger when she realised the girl was a Hufflepuff, same as her two best friends.
"Charley. I'm almost finished with it; you could just borrow my copy if you'd like."

Ahhhhh hum. This must be one of the names on the list that she didn't know, which would make sense given the girl couldn't be older than a second year. "Charley....that's short for Charlotte?" Cause there was no Charlie on the list that she remembered.

Smiling, she nodded her head. "I'd love that. Are you excited about the party?" Arya couldn't tellllll. She looked nervous enough for it though.

In her hometow, everyone traveled by riding a bike. Seeing that the car holding fellow Gryffindors Lexi and Simon was a bit full, Kurumi got into the one that held, at the moment, the Headmaster. "H-Hello, Headmaster," she said bowing her head before taking a seat. Kurumi looked around like a child who had entered a candy store for the first time.

Tate smiled thinly as the girl joined him in the second limo. "Miss Hollingberry. Get comfortable, although I doubt our ride will last very long."

He leaned back as the engine of the car purred, and they were all in the air a moment later.

If you did not RP getting in the car, you can assume that you DID make it into the car. We just have to get moving ;)

Charley blushed.
"Yes, yes! Charlotte Isabelle Kelley is my full name."
She smiled back at the girl, a bit apologetically.
"Sort of, mostly, maybe. I'm not really sure what to make of it. My mum does work at the Ministry, but my brothers assured me that first years rarely get invited to anything important outside the castle. Individually, that is. Collectively, yes. So I am a bit nervous and I'm sure it shows...I am excited too though." She chuckled. "My mum even made me brownies to bring. They came in the post this morning."

Setting the box on the seat next to her, Kurumi looked out the window as the limousine took off. Her eyes grew wide as Hogwarts began to look more and more like a toy castle with each passing moment. She finally turned her gaze back to the Headmaster when Hogwarts was no longer in sight.

Fidling with her hands a bit - she couldn't play with her hair because she had it up - she spoke. "H-Headmaster," she said with a clear quiver in her voice. "D-Do you know why we were selected to attend this party?"

Sabel was vaugely aware of his hand being used to turn something. A crack of his eye open from its shut state revealed that Arya was having a gander through the girl's book. With curiosity, he watched and listened to the exchange. Only when the cars stopped gaining altitude did he draw his head forward a little to look around Arya and at the girl, listening quietly to the conversation.

A quick blink left him at the mention of brownies. Hadn't Kurumi brought cookies. With a questioning frown, he glanced between the two girls. "Sorry...not meaning to interrupt...but were we supposed to bring something?" The invitations hadn't detailed anything.

Hm. Did he know why they were invited? "Yep," he nodded his head just once, but he didn't elaborate.

"Don't know why they invited me, but I know why you lot were invited."

Arya grinned, more from the fact that they were in the air than from the girl's name. "That's a nice name!" She didn't know why she went by a nickname and not her full. "I think that students rarely get invited to events such as these, at least I've never heard of any being invited to one in the past few years I've been here." And she didn't hear much of it with the American ministry as well.

"I'm excited as well." And only a tad bit nervous. Well, more than a tad now that the girl had mentioned the brownies. Her eyes flicked up at Sabel briefly , obviously he was thinking the same thing as she was. WHERE they suppose to bring gifts??

Kurumi stared at the Headmaster with a look of both confusion and of disappointment. Still, there was some comfort in knowing that at least Headmaster Tate knew why her and the others had been invited. It meant that he would be able to watch out for them and protect them, right? Leaning back in her seat a bit more, Kurumi smoothed the fabric of her kimono and looked down at the carpet of the limousine for a few moments. “To be honest…I-I’m a little afraid.” That, and she didn't really trust herself at the moment.

PhoenixRising 03-08-2011 04:43 AM

Hadley closed her eyes in the back of one of the limousines and sighed. She could have just apparated to the party destination, but this was definitely more relaxing.

And of course she had with her a small handbag that held her outfit for the event. There was no reason for her to wear it on the ride over ... It would get wrinkled and stuff.

Cassirin 03-08-2011 04:46 AM

"No reason to fear. Your professors care much more for your personal safety than their own political interests, and I won't let any of you go astray. You'll have the freedom to wander the party, but there's an area just for you. If you're really concerned, you can stay in the student area," Tate leaned forward, propping his elbows on his knees.

"We're nearly there," he tapped his finger against the window.

Okay, friends... you can play in here a bit longer, but I've moved the thread to the DA area. When you're ready, you can proceed here. Our area is here, but you don't have to stay there. Have fun!

Kurumi nodded her head twice in response to the Headmaster. It was a huge relief knowing that there was an area specifically for students seeing as she had no idea how to behave at the British Ministry of Magic. Her father had taken the family to a Japanese Ministry of Magic gathering over the summer, but it had mostly been stiff people wearing suits and talking about magical regulations of kneazles in Okinawa. Nothing she had been all that interested in listening to. Takashi had even fallen asleep at the dinner table while they waited for dessert to arrive.

Thank you, Headmaster,” she said trying to offer the man a confident smile. “I…I just hope…” what was it that she hoped? That they didn’t get brainwashed? They were used for experiments? All of the above? “…I don’t offend anyone.

Kurumi looked out the window and saw Diagon Alley quickly approaching. Here goes nothing...

PhoenixRising 03-08-2011 05:16 AM

Hearing the distant but familiar voice of the Headmaster, Professor Hadley smiled softly as she opened her eyes to see the familiar streets of Diagon Alley fast approaching. He was right though; sure there were beliefs and stuff that she cared about, but nothing was more important than the safety of the students.

Especially considering as a couple of her best students were attending the party.

Ah well... Best get going ...

"Thank you," Charley replied. "It doesn't really fit me though. Charley suits me much better."
She giggled. "Yeah, you should have seen the look on my brother's face when he found out I was invited. He's a fourth year, a Slytherin, and he's been a bit...resentful. I think he's been a bit embarrassed, and this is the icing on the ca-brownies, that is. I'm better at coursework, I've earned more house points this year, and I've made good friends already. It must be hard to be my older brother. Usually the older are supposed to be the examples for the younger, no?"
As the older boy also joined the conversation, she reassured them both.
"No, no, the invitation didn't say anything about bringing anything. My mum just wouldn't let me go without any!"
She smiled and put her book back into her satchel, as she realised they were now nearly at Diagon Alley.

Well if she wanted to be called Charley then that's what Arya would refer to her by. Ah, so her brother was a bit jealous it seemed. "I wouldn't worry about your brother, I doubt we got invited because of house points. There's other reasons we don't know about." It was all she could say about this, never having a brother that was jealous of her.

She visibly relaxed when the girl said they didn't have to bring anything to the party. That was good, since she HAD nothing for the man, and it was too late to grab something now, wasn't it? When she felt them descending, her eyes brightened and she looked out the window. "I think we're here..."

"Well that's a relief." He gave the girl an appreciative smile. "Thank you."

He would have offered a shake of his hand or introductions in greeting if the cars hadn't started to descend. Instead, he pulled back and pressed against his seat again, doing his best not to force his eyes closed. Really, cars were supposed to stay on the ground.

"I am interested, maybe we'll get some answers at the party if we ask." She shrugged her shoulders. The teen was a bit too excited to think about that now though as the limo had settled onto the ground in Diagon.

Glancing out the window, and spying Sabel being all fearful, she grinned back at the girl. "It was fun talking to you, we should talk again at the party." With a wave to the girl with her free hand, she turned and gave Sabel a light poke in the ribs before tugging him gently towards the door.

"Come on silly, we're here."

Reaching out with his free hand, he gave Charley's hand a quick shake as Arya drew him out the door. "Don't be a stranger." And then he was outside on solid ground. Thank Merlin!

Bouncing like a fool, Patroclus jumped from seat to seat, trying to find the mini-bar.

However as the Limo pulled to a stop, the thoughts of Butterbeer ...or anything stronger were wiped from his mind, "WE HERE! WE HERE! WE HERE! WE HERE!"

Excited much?

SIIIIIIIIIIIIGH.

"Why is it that when we're in a super fun car, the trip takes not long at all. But in the train it takes about eight hours," Jake pointed out, clambering out of the car and streeeeeeeetching his legs as he did.

Realising something quite important about the cars, Jake bit his lip and followed the others inside.
