| | The Book Seekers Reading Challenge 2023 The Book Seekers Reading Challenge 2023 Welcome to The Book Seekers' fourth annual reading challenge! The theme for 2023 is... *drumroll* ... star signs! You may know them as the western astrological signs, or the western zodiac. Below you will find a list of prompts associated with each of the signs. You'll notice there are two options per prompt, so feel free to choose whichever you are most inspired (or most challenged!) by.
There are 12 prompts in total, but you do not need to complete all of them to "win". For taking part in this reading challenge - regardless of how many prompts you complete - you will be given an accolade on your SnitchSeeker profile. There are additional prizes for those who manage to complete more, and for those who complete every prompt in the challenge.
This year, we will be putting all the participants randomly into two teams; keep an eye on your post's title for which team you're placed in. The team with the most combined prompts completed by the end of the year will also win a prize. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: - Post in THIS thread: "I solemnly swear that I am up for this challenge! "
- That same post will become your reading log for the challenge.
- Record which prompts you have completed and the books (title and author) you read for them by editing them into your post.
- Please make sure it's clear whether the prompt is COMPLETED or IN PROGRESS.
- Have fun!
GUIDELINES & OTHER INFORMATION: - You MUST read a different book for each prompt. We encourage you to read books that you haven't read before, too, but this isn't a rule.
- You can sign up for the challenge at any point during the year. Any books that you have read during 2023 can count towards this challenge.
- While you are more than welcome to do BOTH options per prompt as a personal challenge, only one option is required to complete each prompt. You also cannot substitute - meaning that you can't skip one of the prompts and try to complete the challenge by doing both options on another.
- This is NOT a discussion thread. The Book Nook is, though, and these are some of the things we encourage you to post about there:
- Discussion relating to TBS Reading Challenge
- Sharing and asking for book recommendations for the prompts
Now, the moment you've all been waiting for... THE PROMPTS Quote: - Aries
- Aries loves to be number one, and is no stranger to competition. Bold and ambitious, Aries dives headfirst into even the most challenging situations. To bring out your adventurous side, read a book with a high stakes quest, or read a book featuring a bold and ambitious protagonist.
- Taurus
- Taurus is an earth sign represented by the bull. Like their celestial symbol, Taureans enjoy relaxing in serene, rustic environments surrounded by sights and sounds that are soothing to the senses. To kick back and relax, read a light-hearted, uplifting, or easy-going book, or read a book featuring the countryside.
- Gemini
- Gemini is spontaneous, playful, and driven by their insatiable curiosity. To honour this, read a book that fuels your curiosity, (a plot with more twists than a silly straw, a non-fiction book on a topic you find intriguing, or anything you believe applies), or read a book chosen at random (taken from your shelf or TBR with your eyes closed, the first that catches your eye, decided with a randomiser, etc.).
- Cancer
- Cancer is intuitive, compassionate, and sensitive. Perhaps for this reason, they can also seem mysterious and enigmatic. This sign is represented by the crab, which inhabits two realms: the land and the sea. To explore new realms of your own and dig into the enigma, read a fantasy, or read a book by an author you've never read before.
- Leo
- Bold, confident, and natural-born leaders, Leo is represented by the lion. As a nod to these kings and queens of the jungle, read a book featuring kings and/or queens, or read a book featuring a character with a 'royal' name or nickname (eg. Queenie, Joe King, the Half-Blood Prince).
- Virgo
- Virgos are generally logical, practical, and systematic in their approach to life, and they are also considered to be one of the friendliest signs. To honour those industrious and sympathetic Virgos, read a nonfiction book, or read a book recommended to you by a SnitchSeeker member.
- Libra
- Balance, harmony, and justice define Libra energy, a sign represented by the scales - the only inanimate object of the western zodiac. Take a moment to stop and weigh up the past and present, and read a book you consider to be a classic, or read a book with an inanimate object depicted on the cover.
- Scorpio
- Scorpio is elusive, mysterious, and enigmatic, often considered the most misunderstood of the signs in the western zodiac. To see past the surface level and plumb the depths, read a thriller, or read a book with a cover that you find intriguing.
- Sagittarius
- Sagittarius represented by the archer. These lovers of freedom are likely to find themselves on a quest for knowledge. For this prompt, read a book you think will be inspirational, motivational, or educational, or read a book in which a character uses a bow and arrow.
- Capricorn
- Capricorns are overachievers, the most likely to climb the mountain straight to the to through patience, perseverance, and dedication. To recognise this, read a book longer than 400 pages, or read a book by an author you believe to be one of the greatest of all time.
- Aquarius
- Aquarius is an idealistic and humanitarian astrological sign in the western zodiac. With this in mind, Aquarius is dedicated to making the world a better place. Pay homage to the world, and to the earth itself, and read a book that has something to do with nature, or read a book with water on the cover, or alluded to in the title (eg. with words like 'water', 'swim', 'rain', 'splash', 'ice', etc.).
- Pisces
- Compassionate Pisces is deeply intuitive, and you'd be forgiven for thinking they might even be psychic - perhaps they are. They often have deeply artistic souls. To honour the trait of compassion, read a book of poetry, or read a book with the colour pink featured on the cover.
As always, several of these prompts are up to interpretation. If you believe a book fits a prompt and you can rationalise it to yourself, then it counts!
Please keep in mind that this is all in good fun, and the description of your astrological sign may not be applicable to you at all. The aim here isn't to accurately describe the signs, but to create an enjoyable reading challenge! If you have any queries, send a private message to Bazinga, Felixir, or Lissy Longbottom.
Happy reading! |

Complete - Aries

- The Last Heir to Blackwood Library By Hester Fox
- Cancer
- Cancer is intuitive, compassionate, and sensitive. Perhaps for this reason, they can also seem mysterious and enigmatic. To explore new realms of your own and dig into the enigma, read a fantasy, or read a book by an author you've never read before.
- The Iron Sword By Julie Kagawa

- Scorpio
- Scorpio is elusive, mysterious, and enigmatic, often considered the most misunderstood of the signs in the western zodiac. To see past the surface level and plumb the depths, read a thriller, or read a book with a cover that you find intriguing.
*Note: It's both of these tbh lol - The Last Heir to Blackwood Library By Hester Fox
