24. House Elf
--7th Year--

“Simon, this is Twinkle.”

Of course Simon had seen a house elf before; he had been at Hogwarts for several years already after all. And while the creatures tended to stick to themselves they weren’t totally invisible. The Gryffindor just had never actually interacted directly with them.

“Um…hi,” he greeted, causing the younger lion to giggle.

“Does Master Simon need anything of Twinkle?”

“No…no there’s nothing. I’m just here with Mist—Kurumi,” he answered, having followed her down to the kitchens to assist in a batch of cookies. No better place to learn then with the cookie princess after all.

53. Chase
--4th Year--

Two flyers in identical robes raced across the sky above the practice pitch. They were nearly neck and neck as the captain ran them through their paces, one a newbie to the team, the other an old pro.

“Alright…that’s enough you two,” Brant called from below, the two blurs responding by going into a dive and landing when close enough to the ground.

“Hey I’m Carter Phillips…” the younger boy introduced, holding out his hand for Simon to take. “You were great.”

“Simon…Simon Bennett” he answered accepting the offered hand and giving it a polite shake. “Thanks… you were too.”

54. Dare
--3rd Year--

He couldn’t believe it.

Simon really could not believe that even a professor like Lafay could be so uncaring of a student as to harm them, especially with fire. He swallowed, trying his best not to react too strongly, the woman’s cold gaze daring them to push her.

“Well if you can't take the heat, don't tickle the dragon,” Josh whispered from beside him, nearly causing Simon to react out loud and alert Lafay to them.

That was the last thing either of them needed at the moment otherwise they would be the next to face the professor’s fiery wrath.

72. Vex
--Graduated--

Simon knew the first day of work wasn’t likely to be easy. Being at the bottom of the totem pole never was and the former Gryffindor hadn’t been there since his first few years at Hogwarts. Being the younger brother of an auror that many of his soon-to-be co-workers had probably worked with didn’t help things but he had steeled himself up for that as well.

What he hadn’t prepared himself for was a certain fellow graduate and his urksome behavior.

Legend Chosen knew just what buttons to push to upset him even without knowing the reason it did.

Sigh.

17. Cauldron

“Uh oh.”
“Uh oh what?” Simon questioned looking to his friend over their potion’s work.

“I may have accidentally dropped something in I shouldn’t have.”
“What! I mean what was it? Maybe it will be fine.”

“I don’t know….but didn’t Lafay say to watch out if it turned purple?” Josh questioned pointing to the now bubbling violet liquid. ”Look OUT!!!” he yelled suddenly causing Simon to duck beneath the workbench.

“APRIL FOOLS!” He exclaimed, holding up a vial of purple dye.

Simon stuck his head up with a sigh, reminded to always be wary of dates when working with Josh.

49. Yule Ball
--5th Year--

Another ball?

The Alumni one had been awkward enough; at least seeing the graduates had made it fun. The Yule Ball just coincided with the Tournament.

Simon sighed once more regretting being single.

“Cheer up grumpy guts,” a cheerful voice was heard behind him causing him to turn.

“Hi Vicky…”

“Hi yourself,” the girl in question returned before standing in front of him until it got too much. “So….”

“So what?”

“You going to ask me or what?

Oh. Simon colored as the fellow fifth year corrected him. He wasn’t single this year after all.

“Will you go with me?”

13. Quidditch
--6th Year--

“Simon…letter!”

Simon heard from his bedroom and headed down to the living room to answer his mother’s call. Must be his OWL results, he mused to himself so he was a mixture of excitement and nerves.

What if he had failed?

Opening up the envelope and taking out the letter within, he dropped what was also inside the surprisingly lumpy package. Looking down as he heard it hit the floor, his eyes widened at what he saw when he picked it up.

Him…captain?

There has to be some mistake…some crazy joke that was just waiting to be revealed later on.

10. Arithmacy
--7th Year--

“Carter…your number is 7. Josh….you’re number 6. Herminny, you’re number 5,” Simon said, informing his team of their player numbers as he walked down the line. The 6th year was glancing between each person and his clipboard as he did so.

“Um…Captain. Can I be number 9 instead?

Simon stopped from moving on, turning to face the young girl head on. “Any particular reason? Usually only one through seven is used seeing as we only have seven players on a team.”

“Well nine…nine is more my number. I much prefer completing to changing.”

Completing…changing…oh man. Hadley had gotten another one.

69. Slap
--7th Year--

Okay so that was not how he expected to be greeted.

Selina may have a fiesty personality and a hot temper but never in the two years they had known each other did he ever remember either having been directed at him the way it just had. It was like a verbal slap to his face as if he had done something wrong. Something he clearly wasn’t aware of.

“Selina…what’s up?”

“Nothing. I’m just surprised you remember me now when you clearly forgot me when we talked before.”

Before…what had happened before? Oh…that. “Selina that wasn’t me.”

Famous last words.

75. Yodel

The flowers were starting to bud…the birds were starting the sing…the Whomping Willow was up to its old self. Not to mention the castle of Hogwarts finally seemed to have shaken its previously believed permenant cover of snow. It was beautiful weather and much like his classmates Simon was out on the grounds enjoying the warmer weather.

He almost felt like rushing to the top of one hill and singing on the top of his lungs like he was up in the mountains. Okay so maybe the Gryffindor wasn’t THAT excited.

Oh to be free now that spring was here.

63. Mooch
--6th Year--

Simon hadn’t known what to expect when they had first been invited to the party for Borr’s promotion. But what they had gotten probably couldn’t have been imagined or believed unless it had been seen in person . Like he and Kurumi and all the rest of the unfortunate members of Hogwarts there. And anyone else for that matter.

What a lazy good for nothing man. No different then when he had been a professor at Hogwarts during Simon’s early years. And here he was being honored like he was a hero and a great man.

Sighs. What a joke.

6. Divination
--6th Year--

Her eyes stared forward as if looking closely at something that wasn’t even there.

Simon was clueless as to what was going on, all he knew was that something was up with Selina. He looked to Kurumi who seemed to have a better grasp of things. “Kurumi…what is it? What is wrong?”

He didn’t get much of an answer, but as the girl and Professor Bishop worked with their friend all Simon could do was really wait and watch. And hope and pray too.

From that day forward, Simon knew of the secret very few knew about the spunky redhead.

38. Patronus
--4th Year--

It was a spell he had seen performed. Advanced magic he was told…took much practice.

But not taught in class and while his brother was willing, at his age he couldn’t work on it at home. So he practiced the theory until he was comfortable enough in the Room of requirement.

“Expecto Patronum.”

Nothing had happened at first causing the 4th year to sigh. Maybe he hadn’t put enough focus into it so he tried again. “Expecto Patronum…!” this time gaining a wisp of smoky essence and a smile across his face. HE DID IT!

Someday it would be something.

64. Nap
--7th Year--

Simon was out cold on one of the common room couches. Between games and classes and studying for NEWTS he was exhausts, the seventh year not even making it up to his dorm for a break.

“Hey Capt’n you’re gonna miss the game!!” Riley yelled spotting him asleep, the older boy startling awake.

“Wait…what?!" he replied jumping to his feet. Wiping his eyes to see his watch as he glanced at it, sighing as he realized it was all a joke. “Funny….real funny,” he said shaking his head, his sigh turning into a laugh.

“Well your face was certainly priceless.”

28. Timeturner

If there was one thing Simon Bennett could say about his life was it was certainly a lively and interesting one. It had its ups and downs like all lives undoubtedly had to some extent and looking back he wouldn’t really have changed a thing.

It was his and his alone and that was that.

He almost wished he had a timeturner to go back and experience it all again in front of his aged eyes. But he obviously didn’t so a penseive was just gonna have to do to relive the memories he both remembered or no longer could.

79- Author's Choice - Green
--7th Year--

Flying was almost second nature to him, the feeling of being high up in the air on a beautiful day being quite exhilarating. And the excitement of quidditch only added to the positive energy created by the experience. So why oh why was he feeling blue…or rather green after today’s match?

Simon supposed he had also been sick during the match if one remembered the feeling of airsickness that had resulted in him and Jacob wearing his breakfast upon their game robes. Never had he gotten sick before. So what had him acting out of sorts like he wasn’t himself?

41. Thestrals

Simon had never given much thought to the creatures pulling the Hogwarts’ carriages. Sure he had known they were there because of his reading, but the somewhat scary looking almost-horses had been invisible to him.

That had been until he visited the school as an adult, teaching a class on defense as a guest professor. That had been a surprise, when suddenly he saw the thestrals who had always been there. It was an effect…a right of passage of sorts. For those who had seen death and in his line of work he had seen more then he cared to.

51. Act
--Pre-Hogwarts--

The night was a time to dress up and be something you normally weren’t and it was just as a part of the culture of the wizarding world as the muggle world if not much more.

Simon was dressed up in his new persona, a bandana around his lanky blonde hair and a baggy shirt, pants and boots completed the outfit. All that was left was to go out trick or treating in the muggle neighborhood not far from home.

“So what do you say?” his father asked as the two boys prepared to leave, prompting his son’s pretending.

“Arrr….”

45. Torch
--Pre-Hogwarts--

“It was a dark and stormy night…”

A round of giggles followed by laughter answered. “Well what would you start the story with?” Jonathan asked his brother as the two sat in the tent under the night sky. A torch between them offering pale light and shadows.

Simon shrugged, the words had just sounded clique. “How about a scary story that doesn’t happen on a night it feels like it should?” he suggested not admitting fear in near-darkness.

“So…it was a calm and peaceful night? Everything appearing perfectly normal and just right.”

The tent was filled with laughter once more.

7. Care of Magical Creatures
--3rd Year--

With a father who was a magizoologist, having animals around the house was never a surprise. The family had a small menagerie as well to look after, both magical creatures and none.

But Matthias wasn’t the only Bennett who dealt with animals over the years. Fate had an injured bat literally dropped into Simon’s lap, the summer between his third and fourth year. But after bringing it to his father for assistance, the youngest Bennett proceeded to nurse the little creature back to health. Homework for his creatures class he was told.

And that was how Bastian entered the family.

32. Common Room
--5th Year--

"Gobbledygook!"

The fat lady’s portrait swung open in response to the password and Simon stepped through the frame. “Ah…home,” he replied his arms wide open dramatically as he entered the room proper, a fire blazing in the fireplace welcoming all those returning to the common room’s comforts. No matter how good one’s home life was, it was nice to be back at school for each new term even if one was ready to welcome the summer break when that in turn came.

And then he was greeted with another sweet sight…and smells emanating from the area around the fireplace.

20. Hogsmeade
--5th Year--

She shivered once more for what seemed like the third time in twice as many minutes.

“Are you cold?” Simon asked his companion, looking over to where Vicky sat across from him. They had stepped into the Three Broomsticks for a drink on their outing and while the day was warm it was still winter. “You can borrow my coat if you need.”

The girl accepted the offered garment, settling it around her shoulders and smiling. “You know…you might never get this back.” His fellow Gryffindor absently sniffing the collar and apparently liking it.

And you know what…he never did.

67. Quell

BEEP…BEEP…BEEP…BE--

An unsteady hand reached up and searched for the stop button, finally just slapping the top of his alarm clock. Anything and everything needed to be done to stop the incessant blaring noise that came from it to awaken the reluctant sleeper from his slumber.

“Five more minutes…” Simon murmured sleepily rolling over under the covers and winding up falling onto the wood floor with a thud. Well that certainly quelled his sleepiness, though not his tiredness as proven as he yawned while sitting back up to adjust to his current state of wakefulness.

“I really need a vacation.”

85. Snappish

“Umph!”

Simon landed with a thud on the ground…or what he at first supposed was the ground.

“You can get off me now,” the voice of an annoyed hit wizard he couldn’t quite place at the moment was heard causing the YATI to realize he was on top of someone. The young man moving to quickly yet cautiously do as was asked.

“You don’t have to be snappish. It was an accident.” A grunt was the only answer as the other man followed him up to his feet and Simon held back a sigh.

Wasn’t like apparition was absolutely flawless.

47. Portkey
--Graduated--

“Alright people,” Izzy spoke trying to get their attentions. “We’ll be traveling by portkey to the location of our next training exercise,” the head auror explaining what was planned before holding up the item that had been charmed to do just that.

“A chocolate-filled heart?” Simon questioned, looking quizzically at the red cardboard box.

“Yeah…apparently the Transportation Department is having fun with the upcoming holiday,” she replied with a shake of the head, the response managing to elicit laughter amongst the various group members. The sound cut off as they vanished with the glow of the object they all touched.
