I'm Lissy, and here are my 100 drabbles about Hogwarts most talented Herbologist, Neville Longbottom. My favorite Gryffie by far, I only hope I can do his charrie justice with these drabbles

Me? A Gryffindor?

Neville was absolutely terrified of the Sorting Hat. But really, who could blame him? He had just passed one hurdle by proving his magical ability by being accepted to Hogwarts, and now this?

He had been dreading it—what if it put him in Slytherin? Nah, he wasn’t cunning enough, even as a pureblood. The best he could hope for was Hufflepuff.

Lost in his thoughts, he could barely hear what the hat was saying to him. Something about hidden courage. He was so focused on where he WOULDN’T end up he didn’t even hear the verdict at first.

“GRYFFINDOR!”

Sticking up for Friends

Neville had been listening to them in the library for a good hour now. Ernie was such a prat—how could he really believe Harry was behind the attacks? Harry was one of the nicest guys around! He just had rotten luck…REALLY rotten luck.

Unable to take their gossiping anymore, he stood up and slammed his book before turning around.

“I don’t care if Harry IS a parseltongue, I believe him when he said he didn’t do it!” he said to the Hufflepuffs. Once he saw their stares of shock and realized what he did, he bolted from the library.

Scary Horse Things

Neville wasn’t sure what they were—all he knew was, they were SCARY. He was just a little first year, and these winged things looked like they could eat him.

The worst part was, he felt like he was the only one who noticed them. Either that, or everyone was just not scared of them like he was. And that made him feel like a wimp.

He let out a sigh of relief as the giant man led them to boats, and he just missed an older Hufflepuff walk by, saying to his friend, “Those thestrals get creeper every year!”

I'm Worth Twelve of You, Malfoy

Normally Neville wouldn’t have gone to the Quidditch match expecting to get into a fight. Let alone would he expect himself to be stupid enough to try and take on Crabbe and Goyle by himself. But when Ron jumped at Malfoy it just kind of—sparked something and he wanted to join the fight! Malfoy deserved it, after all they had put him through.

Of course, that was why he was now in the hospital wing, with a concussion. They said he had gone out cold, but he couldn’t remember. But Goyle had a bruised lip, so Neville was satisfied.

The Psychotic Lavender Brown

He hadn’t been staring at Lavender. Really, he hadn’t! He had been looked at Hannah, admiring her new haircut, and egomaniac Lavender thought he had been staring at her and flipped on him.

“How dare you!” she cried.

Parvati had joined the fun in the Great Hall as well. “She has a BOYFRIEND, you know! One of YOUR good mates!”

“I wasn’t staring at you, Lavender, I swear I—“

SLAP!

Before he knew what had happened her hand connected with his face and she marched off in a huff, Parvati at her side.

Blink blink. Girls were completely LOONY!

Schedule Changes

“Gran I don’t WANT to take Ancient Runes!” Neville complained as Augusta tried for the hundredth time that day to change the classes he had signed up for. “I want to keep up Herbology!”

“Neville, Herbology is NEVER going to help you in the real world,” she said, waving off the idea with her hand and changing the ink on his parchment to read “Ancient Runes”.

“You’ll thank me one day,” she told him before walking into the parlour.

Neville rolled his eyes and walked over to the parchment, scribbling out Ancient Runes to make way for Herbology once again.

Snape in a Dress

The boggart was even scarier than he had imagined. Even though he knew it WASN’T Snape, it still looked like him and probably sounded like him, which was no fun.

He remembered what Lupin had told him to do, and he clearly pictured his grandmother’s clothes in his mind. He could do this, he could…

“Riddikulus!” he cried, waving his wand.

Immediately, Snape transformed, wearing his grandmother’s dress, her hat, and holding her handbag. The class roared with laughter and Neville felt himself grin. He walked to the back, and was surprised to receive three high fives along the way.

Secret Revealed

He knew he shouldn’t have felt so depressed, but after the incident in St. Mungos, he was really down.

People had to find out eventually, right? As his gran always said, he should have been PROUD about his parents! Perhaps it was just the way people found out—running into him like that in St. Mungos, with his gran there making the situation even worse.

And now, he had to go back to school and face them, when they knew his deepest, darkest secret! No, he couldn’t do it—there was no way.

He’d have to be homeschooled now. Yup.

Bargaining

“Come on, we’re almost the same height, trade with me!”

“For the last time Ron, NO! They’re your dress robes and I would never wear those things if my life depended on it!”

Ron was in his bed next to him, pleading with him to swap dress robes with him for the Yule Ball. Not only would Neville NEVER wear those hideous lacy things, but he figured his middle would have a bit of an issue fitting in it too. Curse baby fat!

“What if I paid you?” Ron asked hopefully.

Neville just rolled his eyes and shut his curtains.

Time to Run

Neville wasn’t an idiot. He could tell that the beating Michael got was a warning. The Carrows knew what they were doing, and they made it clearer when they called Neville into their office.

After a few minutes in their office, Neville gathered that something bad was about to happen. Azkaban perhaps? He wasn’t going to let THAT happen.

He leapt from his seat, and the Carrows tried to stop him by waving their wands and cutting into his arm, but it was too late.

He made it down the hall and into the Room of Requirement in record time.

Man vs. Beast

The kneazle, cat…thing, or whatever Crookshanks REALLY was, was staring down Neville. He had spotted the sugar mice that the fourth year had left on his bed, but Neville was done being scared of Hermione’s cat. Those were HIS sugar mice and he was going to get them.

“Nice Crookshanks…” he muttered, moving slowly towards his bed. Crookshanks, seated on Ron’s bed, sat up straighter, clearly getting ready to pounce. Stupid cat…those weren’t REAL mice, after all…

He reached out a hand to grab them, and the cat hissed. Letting out a little shriek, Neville quickly ran from the room.

First Year Meeting with Fang

“Help, he’s gonna get me!”

Neville ran through the grounds as fast as he could, past the older students who were all rolling his eyes at them. Another Gryffindor stared at the first year and yelled “Grow up, Longbottom!” but Neville didn’t slow down.

“Help!” he cried as the monster continued to chase after him. He let out a small squeak as the creature tackled him and started to lick his face. Oh my god, he was going to eat him!

He heard someone approach and heard Hagrid laugh. “Blimey Neville, you’re not scared of good ol’ Fang, are yeh?”

Detention

Neville would have much rather had detention in the dungeon. Anywhere BUT the Forbidden Forest! His luck didn’t change at all when they started talking about werewolves and all the other monsters in there, and he felt even worse when Malfoy and him were partnered off by themselves, with only Fang to protect them.

Ten minutes later, Malfoy had disappeared. Neville knew he was doing it on purpose to scare him, but it didn’t stop him from shaking.

“BOOOOOOOOO!”

Even though Neville KNEW that was Malfoy, he shrieked and sent red sparks in the air as Malfoy laughed in delight.

A Prank

Neville had never played a prank on anyone before. But after Seamus poked fun at him for liking Hannah, he felt now was as good a time as any to joke someone for the first time.

As he held the telescope in his hand, he tapped Seamus on the shoulder. “Here ya go, mate! Do you still need it for Astronomy homework?” Neville asked, handing it to him.

Seamus nodded. “Yeah, thanks! I really appre—“

THUNK!

The fist popped out of the telescope, hitting Seamus squarely in the eye. He chucked it at Neville as he roared in delight.

Safety Precautions

“Neville what ARE you doing?”

Hermione’s eyes widened as she looked at Neville, who was carrying two bags—one full of his schoolbooks and one full of…chocolate?

Neville sat down. “I’m using it as precaution against the Dementors,” he told her simply, as if that explained everything.

As he predicted, she opened her mouth and began to lecture him. “Neville, you DO realize you only need the chocolate if you pass out, right? And since you didn’t faint on the train, I think that, even if a dementor got in the castle you’d—“

“You can’t ever be too careful!”

Truth or Dare

“I don’t want to do it!”

“It’s truth or dare, Neville! If you pick dare, you HAVE to do it!”

“You didn’t tell me that!”

Seamus and Neville were arguing at the foot of the boys dormitory stairs, looking at a first year girl named Parvati Patil, who was sitting in a chair nearby reading her astronomy book, completely unaware as to what was going to happen.

“I’m not kissing Parvati!”

“Then you have to agree to let me call you a chicken for the rest of the year.”

Hmmm, a year of humiliation, or possible exposure to cooties?

“Deal.”

Duelling Club

Neville really had no interest in learning how to duel—especially when Gilderoy Lockhart was teaching them. That was just asking for someone to lose an eye.

Besides, if Neville came face to face with whoever was attacking these students, he wasn’t going to DUEL it. He’d turn and run the other way in a heartbeat…if it let him.

His mood lightened a bit when he found out he wouldn’t be partnered with Ron and his malfunctioning wand, and he was paired with Justin. They were distracted, however, as a snake approached Justin, and Harry was making strange, hissing noises…

Facing Snape

The fact that Snape was now Headmaster really was not the worst thing about Hogwarts. The Carrows, hands down, had to be the worst thing about Hogwarts.

In fact, now that Neville was faced with those two loony siblings, Snape did not even seem that frightening. So he had picked on him in potions class a couple of times…he wasn’t in that class now, so why did he care? That was why when Ginny suggested they try to steal Gryffindor’s sword out of his office, Neville wasn’t scared at ALL.

Well…ok, he was a TINY bit scared. Just a bit.

Studying Thestrals

Care of Magical Creatures was not going well today. First of all, they were studying thestrals which were hands down the scariest creatures alive. The worst part of the lessons wasn’t the scary horse, though—the fact that UMBRIDGE was there made it even worse.

Naturally, she was trying to cause trouble, asking all of the students questions about Hagrid and his teaching methods. He tried not to get jumpy and nervous but when Umbridge questioned him, he accidentally put his foot in his mouth more than once, and probably made things worse for Hagrid.

Couldn’t he do anything right?!

Going Into Battle

As soon as Arianna had delivered the message, Neville knew that the time had come. They had all been waiting for this day, and now there was no denying that it was time to fight. They were back to get rid of the Carrows once and for all, he just KNEW it.

“Neville, what’s up?” Seamus asked, sitting up on his hammock.

“They’re back! I just got the message…alert the DA, they’re back to fight, I just KNOW it and we’re going to help them!” he exclaimed.

Seamus grinned and grabbed his coin as Neville ran out of the room.

Anxious Pacing

Neville was pacing his office, staring at the clock obsessively until the time came for him to go home. How could Hannah break news like that to him over breakfast? Surely she knew that would be bugging him all day!

There was a knock on the door, and Terry Boot, newly appointed Charms professor, entered. “Neville, are you alright? You look terrible!”

Neville sighed and shook his head. “Nothing, it’s just… Hannah told me today that she’s pregnant.”

Terry grinned. “Really mate? Congrats!”

Neville chuckled awkwardly and nodded before walking over to the door and shutting it in his face.

Authors Note: Ummmm, since we never found out if they had any kids I'm taking some creative liberty here

Defense Against the Dark Arts

For some reason, Neville got the feeling that Professor Quirrell was even jumpier than he was.

Neville had been TERRIFIED of Defense Against the Dark Arts, but when he took a look at the professor, his nerves calmed down immediately. Was this guy a joke? Not only was the stutter completely distracting, but it made him seem like a fake—like he was terrified that someone would call him out as an incompetent professor.

Plus, there was an awful smell coming out of his turban. Either he didn’t bathe, or he was hiding garlic in there, to ward off vampires.

Another Prank

Neville was so wrapped up in his Herbology book, that he didn’t even feel his shoes untying magically as he sat.

If he had paid any attention to his surroundings, he would have seen Malfoy pointing his wand at his shoes and laughing with Crabbe and Goyle as Neville remained oblivious.

To make the situation even worse, Malfoy tied his shoes together, so that when Neville finished his book half an hour later, he stood up and took a few steps, unaware of the messed up laces.

THUD!

He fell to the floor as Malfoy and his minions laughed hysterically.

An Embarrassing Mistake

If only he had a timeturner right now. Then he could go back in time and stop himself from making the horrible mistake of asking Hermione to the Yule Ball.

Had it been obvious that he had a crush on her these past few years? It only made sense that he would like her—she was pretty, smart, and she was always nice to him when no one else was. Still, that didn’t mean it was a good idea to ask her out! Stupid Longbottom!

She claimed to have another date. She was probably lying so he wouldn’t feel bad.

Transfiguration NEWT

“Gran, I think charms would be the better choice.”

Neville was trying with all of his might to not argue with his grandmother as they discussed the NEWT classes he should take, but it was difficult. She was refusing to listen to him and kept insisting he take Transfiguration.

“Transfiguration is a much more respected class than CHARMS. Challenge yourself!”

“Gran—I SUCK at Transfiguration, I barely passed that OWL!”

But once again, she just shook her head and added it to his schedule, ignoring his eye roll. Sometimes he thought she did stuff like this just to be difficult.

Broken to Pieces

Neville had no idea which room they were in now. All he knew was that the Death Eaters were still after that orb thing, Hermione might be dead, and Ron had completely lost his mind.

Oh, and his nose was broken, and his legs were going out of control. At least the prophecy was safe in his pocket!

Then, he heard the noise—RIIIIIPPPP! The pocket tore from the seams and he fumbled to catch it, but his legs were still flailing about, making it impossible to catch.

Time seemed to slow as the prophecy landed and broke to pieces.
