I'm Lissy, and here are my 100 drabbles about Hogwarts most talented Herbologist, Neville Longbottom. My favorite Gryffie by far, I only hope I can do his charrie justice with these drabbles

Me? A Gryffindor?

Neville was absolutely terrified of the Sorting Hat. But really, who could blame him? He had just passed one hurdle by proving his magical ability by being accepted to Hogwarts, and now this?

He had been dreading it—what if it put him in Slytherin? Nah, he wasn’t cunning enough, even as a pureblood. The best he could hope for was Hufflepuff.

Lost in his thoughts, he could barely hear what the hat was saying to him. Something about hidden courage. He was so focused on where he WOULDN’T end up he didn’t even hear the verdict at first.

“GRYFFINDOR!”

First Kiss

"I'm glad we decided to go out tonight, Neville."

It was eight o'clock, and Neville was walking Hannah to her door. He was leaving for his new residence--Hogwarts--in a week. And he had wanted to see her before he left.

"I can't believe I leave in a week," he mumbled.

He saw her smirk. "Well then, might be a while before I can do this again."

Without another word, she leaned up and kissed him on the lips. He blinked in shock.

With another sly smile, she said, "Write me when you're there," before retreating into her house.

The Invisible First Years

Neville felt extremely foolish. He had only been trying to warn those three about Malfoy--he had never foreseen it costing him FIFTY house points and a detention in the Forbidden Forest. He was only a first year, he wasn't ready to DIE!

The worst part was, no one was talking to him at all. It had been bad enough being poked fun at before, but being ignored was ten times worse. And the Gryffindors were very good at it. But then again, they had all lost them a ton of points--this was what they deserved. To be ignored.

Finding a Date

Just as he was about to ask her what was up, Hannah blurted it out.

"Ernie asked me to the ball!" she exclaimed. Clearly, his Hufflepuff friend was beyond ecstatic about this. Booooo. He KNEW he should have asked her sooner! Stupid Ernie Macmillian.

"Really? That--that's great!" he said, putting on a grin for her sake.

"So, have you thought on who you're asking to the Yule Ball yet?" she asked him.

Neville needed an answer, and fast. Just then, Hermione walked out of the portrait hole, waving at them before going down the stairs.

"Hermione. I'm asking Hermione."

A Reason to Celebrate

"Oh, ANOTHER one Alice?"

Neville's grandmother groaned as his mother placed another gum wrapper in his hand, clapping with excitement once he took it from her with a grin.

"I swear, your mum has the worst sweet tooth I've ever seen...the number of pieces she goes through every time we're here is amazing, unbelieveable..."

Neville had tuned her out long ago, however, and the third year boy pocketed the wrapper in his robes. "Thanks Mum," he said as they turned to leave.

That wrapper was number 100 in his collection. And that, to him, was a reason to celebrate.

All Grown Up

While they were unpacking their things, Seamus, the nosy little prat, had begun to rummage through Neville's trunk when he pulled out a blue and white striped shirt.

"Neville, what is this?" he asked.

He looked at him in confusion. "Umm, my pajamas?" he replied. What was so strange about that?

Seamus looked at the fabric, then back to Neville, and then snorted. "You mean, you finally got rid of the teddy bear ones your gran made you wear? My little Nev Nev is all grown up!" he teased.

Neville quickly responded by chucking his dragonhide gloves at his head.

Stinksap

"So, do you like it?"

"I LOVE it!" Neville exclaimed, examining his new mimbulus mimbletonia with interest. He had heard of them and read about them but now...he actually HAD one! "Thanks again Uncle Algie, I can't believe you even found one!" he said.

Taking his fingers, he started poking and prodding the plant, trying to get a better look at it when...

SPLAT!

A foul smelling gunk shot out of the boils, oozing out of the plant at amazing speed. He spat some of it out and his uncle chuckled.

"Oh, don't forget, watch out for that Stinksap!"

"Cutie" Professor

Homework. Neville Longbottom was SO sick of grading homework!

It was the only downside to being a professor, he had concluded. He really shouldn't have assigned just a large essay before Easter break, but these kids were just NOT understanding Venomous Tentacula and he wanted them to be prepared for their upcoming exams.

Just then, he glanced to his right and saw the heart shaped box of Chocolate Cauldrons that had been sent to him by the young Katelyn Vane earlier that day. Those were going straight in the rubbish bin once he was done with this assignments. Right away.

Pretty French Girl

Neville was having a great time with Ginny at the ball, but every time Fleur Delacour walked into a room--well, it was just hard to NOT stop what you were doing to stare at her.

Sigh. Neville got a loopy grin on his face as he stared at the beautiful part-veela girl...why couldn't Ginny had long, blonde hair like that? Roger Davies was SO lucky, it was probably because he played Quidditch...

He snapped out of his trance as Ginny punched him hard on the arm. "Oi, Longbottom! I'M your date, remember?" she snapped at him angrily.

Shield Charm

"Hey Neville, wanna practice the Shield Charm with me?" Seamus asked.

Now that he believed Harry about You-Know-Who being back, he was very eager to catch up on everything that he had missed in the DA meetings. Neville, however, had three rolls of parchment for potions to complete still, and just didn't have the time right now.

"Sorry, potions homework," he groaned as he headed up the stairs.

Seamus shrugged, and just as Neville left, he heard a loud BANG.

Seamus' sleeve was on fire again. Rolling his eyes, he pulled out his wand to help his dormmate x-tinguish it.

The Final Journey to Hogwarts

For the first time in his entire life, Neville hated being pureblood. He couldn't remember a time where his blood status had even mattered, or a time when he had even given it much thought...but now, he just wanted to be away from HERE.

It was because of his blood status that he was even on this blasted train. Harry, Ron, and Hermione weren't even here to cheer him up--they were no doubt off on the run, doing something important.

But because he was a pureblood, what was he faced with now?

Snape as Headmaster. How bloody fantastic.

Half Muggle

Hannah had gotten pretty over the summer. Not that she wasn't always pretty, he had just...noticed now.

He accidentally let himself daydream while looking in her direction one day when Malfoy walked past, saying the first words he had heard him say to anyone all term, so insulting Neville came as more of a shock than usual.

"Why are you eyeing up Abbott, Longbottom? Don't you know she's half muggle?" he jeered as Crabbe and Goyle laughed. They walked out of sight.

Neville didn't care if she was half muggle. She was nice and...nice to look at too.

Punishing the Headmistress

"Come on Longbottom, do it already!" Seamus said, egging on his fellow Gryffindor.

"Are you sure she won't catch us?" Neville asked again.

Dean nodded before turning to make sure no one was coming down the first floor corridor they were standing in at the moment. "If you duck fast enough and then run like hell, she'll have no idea!"

Neville gulped and bit his lip. He placed the bowl he had in his hands on the open windowsill as their target moved into position below.

"NOW!"

Without thinking, Neville tipped the bowl as the Stinksap went soaring towards Umbridge.

Well Worth the Punishment

"Anyone with even a drop of muggle blood is considered SCUM!" Alecto Carrow bellowed from in front of the room.

Neville knew he was about to get in trouble for what he was going to say...he didn't know why he felt so snappish and outspoken lately, but no one else was doing it. Why couldn't it be him?

"Well then, how much muggle blood have you and your brother got?"

The spell came before he even heard her speak. A powerful stinging on his cheek told him she had just cut him. Again.

Oh well. It was worth it.

Breakfast Time

Neville had been eating his breakfast, as always. When the owl came to drop off the paper in the Great Hall, he paid it like he normally did when something caught his eye. Just like that, he stopped eating and immediately started reading the headline, mouth falling open in disbelief.

There was no WAY she had gotten out of Azkaban!

As Bellatrix Lestrange sneered up at him from the front page, he read all the horrifying details and could feel the anger boiling up inside of him.

Today's breakfast had certainly put a damper on things. That was for sure.

Midnight Visitor

Seamus was snoring rather loudly, and Neville couldn't sleep and just wanted some quiet to read his Herbology book, so he resorted to going down to the Common Room.

Just before he got there, however, he stopped when he heard a faint humming coming from the room. Peering around the corner of the staircase, he pinched himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming.

Standing on the table was a house elf, humming to himself as he put a few hats on the already teetering pile on his head.

That was the beauty of Hogwarts--it never failed to surprise him.

Deadly Entertainment

Neville had to admit--watching Ron and Hermione bicker sometimes was very entertaining.

Today's current argument had the two friends standing on opposite ends of the common room, screeching to each other about Hermione's cat yet again. Neville agreed with Ron on this one...Hermione's little orange ball of fluff was always up in their dorm, so it only made sense that Crookshanks had eaten Ron's rat. Although death would have probably been a sweet release for that creature.

Suddenly, he ducked as Hogwarts, A History went sailing by his head.

Scratch that--watching Ron and Hermione bicker was DANGEORUS.

Gryffindor Spirit

Everyone was fairly excited about the Quidditch match that afternoon--everyone except poor Ron, that was. The poor boy looked visibly shaken up, which was only to be expected. This WAS the first game of the season. Neville just hoped that he would make it through the game--he kind of wanted Gryffindor to win. He'd made a bet with Ernie.

Just then, a loud ROAR from behind him made him drop his pumpkin juice in his lap. He looked around until he spotted the source of the noise behind him.

"Luna? What the bloody hell is on your head?!?"

New Wand

There was something strangely satisfying about using a wand that was actually selected by you.

For one thing, his spells had improved dramatically. Usually it took him at least five tries to master spells in class, and he had always been the butt of the jokes when he didn't succeed. But now, he found that he got spells in just one or two tries. Despite his grandmother's belief that his father's old wand would give him a boost in charms work, his new wand was much more suited for him.

If only he had gotten it during his first year!

Alone in Hogsmeade

Neville sighed and looked down at his feet as he traveled through the snowy grounds of Hogsmeade. He was just his luck that he would lose that list of passwords and get Ron nearly killed...but what were the chances of that happening in the first place? Honestly!

Because of this, he was walking back to the castle by himself, now banned from the village. Lost in his thoughts about how miserable his life was, he suddenly felt an icy snowball connect with the side of his face.

"Get out of my way, Longbottom!" Malfoy sneered as he walked past.

Herbology Class

There was no where in the world that Neville felt more at home than in Herbology class.

It was the one thing he was good at--and the one class where he could actually out-answer Hermione if he really wanted to. Sad as it was, his ego took a bit of pleasure out of seeing her frown whenever he raised his hand before her (which hardly ever happened--she had lighning reflexes!)

Neville felt at peace when he was with plants. No one was telling him how worthless he was when he was repotting a mandrake. All was well.

Professor Snape

That professor was making him nervous. Yes he was.

Neville gulped and looked down at the potion he and Seamus were supposed to be making. For their first potion ever, he didn't think it looked so bad. What had Snape said to add next? He started to sweat when he realized he couldn't remember.

This was a HARD potion and that professor was doing it on purpose because he was just--just--unpleasant and cruel!

With a little squeal Neville threw the nearest ingredient he could grab into the cauldron, which prompty turned to ooze and dripped all over him.

Things Have to Change

Neville was angry.

Beyond angry, actually. He couldn’t believe that Carrow had tortured Seamus like that…two days into term and they had already come to violence? He couldn’t stand for this!

But what could he, Neville Longbottom, do? Clearly, this was how Hogwarts was going to be now. Gritting his teeth in anger, he threw a pillow out the wall before letting out an exhausted sigh.

Just then, a thought occurred to him and he opened the drawer of his night stand. He picked up a tiny object and examined it before pocketing the DA coin and leaving the room.

A Quiet Breakfast

“No way!”

“You didn’t!”

“You flew in using a flying Ford Anglia?”

Neville sighed and looked down at his breakfast, playing with his scrambled eggs. Everyone was, as usual, fawning around Harry and Ron. While he had to admit, coming to school in a flying car was totally cool (unless you asked Hermione, then it was just stupid) but it would be nice to just enjoy breakfast talking to someone who WASN’T interested in just talking about Harry.

Actually, it’d be nice to talk to anyone for a change at breakfast.

He sighed again and continued to eat in silence.

Password?

Neville had concluded that all of the portraits in the school were STUPID.

Ok, that wasn’t fair. Only Sir Cadogan was an idiot.

Who found it necessary to change the password that often? When Neville heard that it had been changed again, he rolled his eyes. He had actually taken to keeping a list, so he wouldn’t be locked out of the common room.

As the week went by, his list got longer and longer to the point where it didn’t fit in his pocket anymore.

He’d never thought the day would come when he would miss the Fat Lady.
