I own nothing you recognise. All direct quotes are acknowledged below the drabble.
Just a few things I feel I need to explain:
Firstly as I'm English, I use english spelling variations e.g. pyjamas not pajamas. To try and use the american english variations does funny things to my brain, sorry.
I tried not to be gloomy and dour, but I'm better at that stuff, sorry! I'm actually quite a lighthearted person really, honest!
I was thinking of writing a Tonks/Remus fic, but Cassirin's is so good that I'd be bonkers to try. http://www.snitchseeker.com/characte...ack-sa9-31388/

Sirius hissed, “Not to mention the fact that it’s already the wrong colour, Wormy, get a grip!”
Peter looked at me imploringly. “Help me! Please!”
“Moony can’t help you in the O.W.L. Wormy, you have to learn how to do it yourself”
“But James, if I…”
“No Moony, he has to do it himself. Like Padfoot said, you need to get a grip” The last comment was shot at Peter.

49. Yule Ball
A letter sat on the table, with a few photographs. In one, Dora and Charlie Weasley were dancing at the Ministry’s Yule Ball, laughing together. In another, Charlie was kissing her on the cheek. A rush of jealousy flooded my stomach. How ridiculous, jealous of a memory!
For a moment, I wanted to read the letter, find out why it was sitting on the kitchen table, if it was from Charlie, how long ago it had been, if she loved him…
The last thought was almost physically unbearable. I sank into a chair.
“Reading my post Remus?” Her amused voice drifted into the kitchen.

Celestina Warbeck’s voice trilled out of the radio. I looked into the fire, keen to avoid Molly’s gaze. Her unsubtle hints about Dora were like knives in my ribs. Depression, something I had always worked so hard to avoid, sat in my chest like an augurey crying for the rain. I had already recognised that my feelings for Dora were dangerous, I should have behaved much more rationally. Now it would seem I was hurting her as well as myself. She would move on, find happiness in the future. She would forget me.
Harry’s voice woke me from my torpor.

And now Dora was shaking me, telling me she didn’t care.
“This is… not the moment to discuss it… Dumbledore is dead”
“Dumbledore would have been happier than anyone to think that there was a little more love in the world”.
Blood roared through my ears, drowning everything out.
They were right.

I looked into her earnest, loving face. I still felt conflicted about loving her.

“Well, as this is the second time you have failed to hand in your homework on time I have no choice but to give you a detention.”
“Is that so?” His arrogance was breathtaking.
“Yes Mr Malfoy, it is. In fact it will be my happy pleasure to give you a detention for every missed piece of homework and that in my classroom rude, arrogant behaviour is neither welcomed nor tolerated."

As I lay on the sofa, I watched my wife carefully put away the books which were stacked on the floor. I watched as she weaved her way around the room with unusual grace. I was bewitched by her presence, as though she were Veela.

I smiled at her. Having a baby suited her, her inner radiance shone through. She continued to tidy up, turning her back to me.
I wrapped my arms around her. “I think that you’re nesting.”
She covered my hands with hers and sighed happily. I felt totally complete and happy.

9. Defence Against the Dark Arts
I read the letter again, still not believing the words. Defence Against the Dark Arts Teacher? Me?
My mind wandered back to Hogwarts, to how happy I had been there. Hogwarts had always felt like home, could it really feel that way again without my friends? So much had happened, so much pain, so many regrets…
I wrote what I hoped was a polite but firm letter declining the best job offer I had ever had and made a rather large mug of cocoa with a generous measure of brandy in it, to try and perk myself up a little.

I sat in the Three Broomsticks. Kingsley was watching the door, clearly agitated.
“Do you get the feeling Remus, that Dumbledore never tells anyone everything?”
“I’m certain of it.”
This did not calm Kingsley at all. Dumbledore swept into the bar.
After discussing recent disappearances, Kingsley could not hold his tongue.
“Albus, where do you go with Potter?”
Dumbledore sighed. “I will tell you, as I have told Severus, there are things that Harry needs to know.”
“What things?” Kingsley was clearly more daring than me, demanding information.
Dumbledore calmly stated. “Harry is the best hope we have. Trust him.”

The loud, unmistakeable crash of books hitting the floor rang through the classroom. I look around and saw Hermione leaning over, attempting to gather her things back together, her bag ripped and abandoned. As she reached out for her quill, a timeturner on a delicate chain slipped out of her robes. I understood how she was managing to get to so many lessons and why she looked so exhausted.
I repaired her bag, and helped her to repack it.
“That’s an interesting pendant Hermione, but perhaps you should tuck it out of sight.”
I winked at her and she blushed.

I woke up on the floor of a bitterly cold room, not entirely sure of where I was. Then I remembered, I was where I needed to be, in the Shrieking Shack. Gingerly I stood up, looking for my wand and my clothes. I dressed and started to walk back towards the Whomping Willow. I could hear the tree creaking and groaning as it moved. Suddenly everything was silent and still. I stiffened, waiting for something to happen.
“Moony? Are you there?” Relief flooded through me.
“I thought you weren’t coming. After that row…”

41. Thestrals
The thestral flicked its tail and gave a snort of surprise. Four creatures, three of them very large were gambolling towards the edge of the forest. The thestral recognised the shapes of a rat, a large shaggy dog, a majestic stag but not the fourth animal. It was large and lupine, sniffing the air and snapping at the guard of animals around it. The smells that were coming from animals were wrong too. Human smells, not animal ones. As the animals grew closer, the thestral shrank back into trees, keen to stay away from the strange lupine creature and its friends.

I grasped the portkey and felt the strange hooking sensation behind my navel. Spinning wildly through the air, I felt the others banging into me. We hit the ground hard, but I didn’t fall. I pulled James to his feet.
“Where are we this time?”
“Naples.”
“What do you reckon the chances of being on the outside of a sausage sandwich are?”
“Do you ever think with you brains?”
“Hey! An army marches on its stomach!”
“Since you’re on your backside, what does that make you?”
Listening to James and Sirius bicker, I grinned.
“Let’s get on with it, shall we?”

I looked around the bedroom, her things were everywhere! Sirius had always been untidy, but Dora had make untidiness an art form.
“I can’t find any socks either! I never had this problem…”
“What? Before you married me?” Her voice was dangerously quiet.
“Well, it’s just that I’m used to being organised…”
“How happy were you, with all your organisation?”
“Very, I could find things to put on my feet!”
She threw a pair of purple boots at my head. I ducked just in time.

I rolled my eyes.
James frowned “Since he likes it dark and dingy, I say we lock him in dungeon four.”
“That one floods! He’ll drown!”
“Alright then, we’ll freeze him, paint him gold and let some nifflers loose.”
“They’ll rip him apart!”
“What is this thing that you have with Snivellus still being able to breathe?”
“I don’t like him, I just don’t want to be expelled!”
“Killjoy!”

Having a relationship with the biggest gossip in school was too dangerous, Cybele Morris might be gorgeous but she just wasn’t worth being exposed as a werewolf for.
