25. Sorting Hat

No one in her family had needed to use the sorting hat since her own mother - and now, her niece's cousin...whatever she was t her, she was still somewhat related. She was practically this little blond girl’s aunt and she knew that her step-father’s family’s blood ran through this girl’s veins and she was feisty like the entire clan of them.

Alicia knew this girl would be given the correct house there was no way around it.

She was smart, devious, and - well just plain brilliant.

She knew, somehow that this girl was bound to be a Ravenclaw.

24. House Elf


Alicia couldn’t help but chuckle when she heard the stories from Hogwarts. This sounded almost amusing. A baby was always a wonderful to its parents but when the parents were two house elves trying to run the entire Hogwarts School. Things were bound to get a little bit crazy.

“So India - your telling me you started a campaign to keep the forks away from the house elves because they were harming themselves?” She asked, it was smart she had to commend her family for their view on the world. “And then they harmed each other instead. Brilliant guys aren’t they?”

23. Telescope


Hoisting the large brass mechanism into place she couldn’t help but smile. It had been so long since she was able to properly stargaze.

Moving to grab another part of the mechanism used to fasten the telescope onto it’s stand was not the best idea. The moment she moved her foot caught onto the stand, collapsing it.

The large brass looking glass falling to what would most likely break it. The floor. It didn’t.

Something else was most definitely about to break.

Her eyes bugged out, tears welling up, the scream reverberated from her throat as it met her foot.

22. Kneazle


She wasn’t a cat person at all really. Well mundane cat’s that is - but anything with a touch of Kneazle in it was fair game to be her lovely little fluff-ball.

She reached down and gave her niece’s kitten a little scratch behind the ear.

She didn’t know yet if she liked her - but she was adorable. That was all that mattered.

“Hello Nyxy” she cooed, as the kitten curled up on her lap. Obviously Nyx liked her if she was willing to sleep on her? Right. Or maybe the possible kneazel in her trusted Alicia. That’d be good.

21. Veela

Veela? Really.

Alicia never thought that veela hair wands would come anywhere close to her family but her older sister Lily’s new wand was a veela hair wand.

She wasn’t anywhere close to veela. She wasn’t close to the pregnant witch at all – but she hoped everything would go well. Her previous wand had broken quite quickly during an unfortunate trip.

Literally Ali knew they were related because of their utter lack of graces.

That was also how she knew she wasn’t related to the beautiful and mysterious (but most of all graceful) Veelas. There was just no possible way.

20. Hogsmeade

She hadn’t been there in a long time – it wasn’t like you could easily go to the magical town every day when you lived in Paris. No, now that she lived in London she sometimes ventured to take the Knight Bus to Hogsmeade.

Especially when she wanted to remember her own experiences when she had visited the school.

Still – Alicia loved the stores more so. The fact the simple fact they had a candy store seemed like a bad idea to her but she did love it more than the atrocious teashop.

No way she wanted confetti in her tea.

19. Wand

The eleven-year-old blond French girl clenched onto her sister’s hand as she walked into the little wand shop. She didn’t know what to get and she knew Lily would help her out.

“I’m scared,” she whimpered, “I know” Lily rumbled Alicia’s hair, “but we need to get you a wand love,” she smiled over to her; leaning down she kissed her forehead. “You know daddy will be so proud of you – getting a wand” her face screwed.

Ali knew why Lily didn’t have a wand, Lily wasn’t magical, not like the rest of the Devereaux family, she was a squib.

18. Whomping Willow

Alicia’s eyes were wide as she read her little sister’s history book – the book that was passed onto her niece. She wouldn’t believe it was real. The picture was moving, swaying, and thrashing like some evil possessed it.

The thing looked wretched – with large limbs that surely were jokingly called branches. There was no way this was just a tree. There was something about it – something that made it move and thrash at people who neared it.

“And you threw a rock at it?” She asked. “And the rock got hit by a branch – like a bludger?” Whomping Willow indeed.

17. Cauldron

Gold? Really they had them made out of gold? She snorted as she looked at the ridiculousness of the gold and silver cauldrons. She still used her standard pewter one – sure if you put tomato’s in there they’d become poisonous but that was old news right?

She didn’t need some fancy-pants cauldron to make her hair salve. She just needed something simple.

Besides. This was just so she could make her mum a stupid mothers day gift.

It wasn’t like she’d bake a cake in it? Because that would be nasty – after all she had made volatile potions in it.

16. Dragonhide Gloves

Alicia never thought she would be at slug and jiggers for this reason. She always thought it would be for some other reason maybe to buy something for herself, some more flobberworm mucus maybe?

But never had she expected to come here toting young children – it was a pleasure and a curse. She had been here once before with her niece but never, had she thought she’d be here with her own children.

She gulped looked up at the shopkeeper and smiled as she took the bagged ingredients, her hands safe with aid of her trusty old dragon hide gloves.

15. Room

There was a strange absence in her apartment not because her roommates were gone – no, but because now she was getting married. She loved where she lived – but she didn’t think she’d live there forever not when she got married, not after she was officially Alicia Tanner.

She took a long dragging sip of her wine and sighed. Sure this place accommodated space for people when they visited. She just didn’t want to sit there feeling as though she was suffocating with no space to breath.

Not like she had that week before he proposed, she smiled at the memory.

14. History of Magic

Alicia laughed as she looked at the book list. She hadn’t had to read that book when she went to school because she hadn’t gone to Hogwarts. She opened the book and looked through the pages. She couldn’t help but smile, the pages were dusty and the smell of the papers age was clearly present as the pages flipped.

“Hogwarts a history” she read the title, glanced down and began to read. Words molding into each other as they flashed before her eyes.

Her smile growing - she was happy that she was able to read something filled with such magic.

13. Quidditch

She had never understood the game.

Whizzing wizards riding on sticks between their legs?

What was the allure? She wondered as she walked past the quidditch store. She contemplated walking in there and buying books maybe that Quidditch through the whatever it was book.

When she heard from Aurelie that Kyleigh loved the sport she couldn’t understand it. Alicia sighed, a little tear sliding down her cheek as she remembered her sister. It was just so sad, Aurelie was playing house with her own niece. The pang was worse as she remembered Lilianne and how she had died too soon.

12. Charms

She was excited, seventeen years old and her heart was fluttering with nerves. “Oh my gosh” she giggled, and pick up her wand. Swish and flick, swish and flick. Her nerves were going crazy like a bubbling cauldron of oil nerves.

She jumped as the door opened.

The Examiner’s robes fluttered around behind her as she stood in the front of the group. Turning with a click of her heels Ali gasped. She was tough or the woman looked it. Ali blinked, tried to calm down and began reminding herself she was here to take her NEWTs, this was it.

11. History of Magic

Alicia looked at her history books and began to wince. She wasn’t in the mood to learn all that stuff - she was just a bit off, her brain was exhausted. Today was the day that she had to go and take her History of Magic OWLs she was nervous.

Her heart was racing as she thought about what she had to do.

“Alright, we can do this” she told herself and looked at the parchment in front of her.

“Miss Devereaux please keep your comments to yourself” Professor Eliza Mantis snapped, glaring over to her. With a nod she began.

10. Arithmancy

Math was never her forte. Math associated with letters made her entire self cringe with distaste. It made her feel all together stupid. As stupid as a box of rocks - maybe not rocks that were actually pogrebins pretending to be rocks. Those had to be smart or just cunning in order to eat their, ugh choice of food.

Alicia winced.

So her number was a 9? She wasn’t sure if that was true. So what, was she a daughter of neptune? She rolled her eyes as she looked over the parchment and sighed. She must have miffed it up somewhere.

9. DADA

Alicia was always paying attention to what Professor DuPont would say she was a smart woman. She bit her lip as she brought in the cupboard she had no idea what was in it. Glancing at the apprehensive look on DuPont’s face she didn’t know what was going on.

“Today, we are going to work with fear” and it hit her. Today they were learning about Boggarts.

As the class moved on the Boggart was released and began to form into Alicia. She gulped. She was in a cast, blood spurting out of a broken arm the bone sticking out.

8. Potions

The cauldron was bubbling over. Oh good god merlin how on earth was she going to fix this? The pewter cauldron was beginning to bubble and boil. “Oh good god this isn’t good” she jumped backwards from the potion and quickly cast a spell to freeze the motion. She threw on her dragon hide gloves and dumped the potion. She hoped it wasn’t something corrosive that would kill the earth.

She quickly cleaned the room.

Today wasn’t a good day for her and potions.

Today, her niece and nephew had been born, and alas their mother and her sister died.

7. Care of Magical Creatures

Caring for magical creatures wasn’t good for her. Still, today she found some she could care for quite easily. She couldn’t help but chuckle as the fluffy pink and yellow creatures jumped up and down and rolled on her shoulder. She smiled and pet the little Pygmy Puff.

“I love you buddy,” she told it and it purred and vibrated below her hand. She didn’t know what to call her new little gift maybe she’d call her Peggy no that wasn’t good. Maybe she would call her Ginger - nah, Lemon was better.

“Hi Lemon” she smiled, and it chirped happily.

6. Divination

Alicia rolled her eyes as the floozy looking woman twirled her arm to indicate to the board. The jangling bangles on her wrists sliding up, down and around and making chiming sounds as she dramatically taught class. She didn’t know if it was just something that was a coincidence or if it went hand in hand. But did all Divinations Professors dress like they only bought bolts of fabric at the sheer as air fabric store and layered them so it was just barely see through.

She rolled her eyes, and sighed, today was going to be oh so fun.

5. Astronomy

The stars and constellations were beautiful tonight. She walked out into the dome shaped astronomy observatory and smiled. The crisp air was nice, her cheeks pinking at the biting cold.

“what brings you out here?” her friend Dominique asked, her long brown hair was pulled into the signature side braid. She wrapped her arm around her friend and Alicia smiled.

“Oh you know huge school project” she chuckled, and the two girls took out the portable campfire that they had developed. Alicia pulled the marshmallows, sticks, chocolate, and graham crackers from her bag. Tonight was a slumber party under stars.

4. Ancient Runes

Elder Futhark never made sense to her. She groaned as her University Professor asked her to go to the board and write the meaning of the rune on the board. She felt as if every inch of memory and brain space had leaked out of some hole in her brain. She sighed.

Today was crazy. Today was - was not good for her was it?

She sighed, ran her hand through her hair and stood there, her hands at her hips. This was impossible.

“Its uh, Fay-Who it means possessions and is a sign for happiness” she shrugged and sighed.

3. Transfigurations

Alicia frowned when she heard the spell they were learning today. That wasn’t a fun spell it was brilliant and amazing but it wasn’t good in the effects that well, it could be quite bad when used with certain intentions. It was a transfigurations spell and a charm at the same time.

She picked up her wand and tapped ring that was on the table. “Geminio” she spoke, and with a slight rattle and a popping sound another perfectly formed twin of the ring appeared next to the other.

“Well nice job Miss Devereaux” Professor Bishop smiled over to her.

2. Muggle Studies


Alicia smiled when the new Professor walked into the room she was a transfer from America. Professor Clark was a tall lanky woman with bandy legs and stringy black hair. She looked like she walked straight out of a comic book. She looked like a nice woman.

“Welcome class - today we are learning about Muggle broadcasting and handheld devices” she smiled pulling out a battery operated radio. “This is a radio” she smiled, “from this we can listen to magical and muggle stations” she smiled.

“this is a two way radio” Alicia was amazed everything word very intriguing and magical.

1. Herbology

Alicia winced as she put on her earmuffs. She didn’t want to hear the caterwauling sound sound of the stupid mandrake. Stupid baby shaped root was completely hideous.

“This thing is just, ugh” she groaned and dropped the plant into another pot. The wailing stopped. She smiled.

“This thing is crazy - why do we have to play with dis stupid plant? It is not fun, no fun” Dominique groaned and smiled over to Alicia. “You want to throw them off the tower and see who we can knock out?”

“No, the screaming I don’t want to pass out” Alicia laughed.
