With the professor's permission, Arkee lightly sprinkled some red dust on her plant and covered it with her cloak. Then she waited. And waited. And waited Unable to wait any longer, Arkee lifted the cloak to peek at her plant's progress. "Eek!" she squeaked, jumping backwards. "It's moving! I think it's gained sentience!" |
Raven walked towards Mithos and smiled. "Ok you, we are going to make good grades in Herbology. So we have to follow directions," she said smiling talking to him like the Ministry Official's talk to us. "Ready?" |
Nadia did as intructed as she kept an eye on the professor. Mr Hyde you could tell it, this was not the common way with which Nadia could understand even the grumpiest person. In fact, she dared assume there was something more. Was it her small forgetfulness on the raising-hand rule? Had it be she alone, the responsible? With some heaviness she moved to take a bucket and sitting down she carefully sprinkled her plant. The Ramnus started humming pretty much immediately, and in fact in a kind of purr, Nadia thought. For a crazy minute she thought the plant might need throat lime candy food its humming. Then finally thought it was a characteristic of the plant. After the plant looked content enough, Nadia, first shadowed the plant. She knew this much; light and water together didn't mix. The light acted like a prisma, powering the effect of the sun rays and finally burning the leaves. So her next step, after putting the shadow over the plant and the watering, Nadia slowly threw dust and rock over the ground, not the leaves. And yet managing not to touch the plant, just in case, even though she had her globes on. In short; experimentating with the three thing, as the professor had told them to. Only then there was the smallest movement in the plant, Nadia was happy to notice. All in all, other than the purring, the plants seemed healthy and normal. Every now and then it seemed to make a shake movement, maybe shivering. Though it seemed like a happy shivering, and Nadia couldn't imagine why it would when it was so hot outside. Writing down everything that occurred, Nadia took her text book and also tried to tell what other thing she could do to help its growing. Every now and then her eyes will left the task only to see the interaction between the professor and the students. She said nothing. Whatever way, Professor Virohsa was someone to investigate. |
Professor Virohsa walked over to Arkie and smiled. "That's good! Do you know how much it moved? Was it a little bit or a lot?", she asked curiously. "Make sure to write it all down", she nodded. |
After Martha finished watering her plant again she noticed that it had changed to a light brown. Wondering if she had watered it too much, she raised her hand and asked, "Professor...is it possible to water these plants too much? Mine is turning brown." |
Mithos took his wand out he pointed at the plant and said "Lumos!" rays of light emerged from the wand. He turned his face so that the light wouldn't blind him. When the light had faded, his plant was bright red. |
"How much it moved?" Arkee echoed the professor. "Well, it was shaking quite a lot... and then it made a really rude gesture with it's leaves! My plant has no manners, it seems." Arkee scribbled down everything she observed. |
"Mithos make sure that you do add food," she said looking at his plant. |
Before trying a different combination, Kali added to her parchment a sketch of the plant as it was now, labeling in where the bits of color were and where the color seemed to change the most. Noticing the diminishing humming, Kali sprinkled some more of the red dust onto her particular plant. There wasn't any more noticible change in it's coloring |
Professor Virohsa continued to walk around and noticed Nadia's attention to detail. Nodding, she decided that girl would do well on her class. She walked over to her and looked at her plant. She was about to move on, when a student asked a question. She turned around and saw another Ravenclaw girl asking a question. "Yes, it is possible to over-water. If you would like to try with another plant, please do so", she nodded. As she responded, she saw Mithos out of the corner of her eye. She turned to see him, and was pleased that he was now being supervised by another student. Nodding, she continued to walk away from Nadia. |

Mithos nodded at Raven "I was trying to see if it would get mad, angry if i didn't feed it and it worked." he looked and the plant go was changing to blue "Now it's getting sad becuase it's hungry." he said with a smile. Mithos added the dust, rock and water and the plant became a dark green. |
Raven smiled at Mithos and laughed. "You expriment to much, but that is a good thing." |

"I gave it some red dust... a bit of water, but that was earlier... I took away all of it's light.... and I gave it some words of encouragement!" She wrinkled her nose. "Maybe it didn't like what I said to it?... Some people just don't respond well to praise and positive encouragement, I guess." |
Professor Virohsa gave the girl a small, forced grin. "Why don't you try giving it some of the rocks, dear", she added as she walked away. She looked around and decided to wait for a couple of minutes before continuing on her lesson. "Keep working on your plants, try different things.. and then, we shall discuss what happened here in class today", she nodded. As she waited, she kept a close eye on Nadia and Mithos. Nadia seemed to be working diligently, whereas Mithos seemed to be whispering to Raven -- perhaps, asking for directions.. |
Raven smiled and looked back at Mithos. She turned back forwards and contiuned to do her own thing with her flower. She was recording all the things she had tried. |
Mithos thought of what to do next... He could poke the plant with his wand, but he didn't want to do that. He raised his hand "Professor, if the plant turns black does it mean it is dead?" |
Sarah pushed her plant back into the light and watched the purple fade away and be replaced by a bright pink colour. She poured some water onto the plant and noted down as it's colour changed yet again to dark red, she sprinkled on the red dust and the plant started to stretch it's leaves and hum softly again. Sarah wrote down what she had added to her plant, it's changes and drew another quick diagram. |
Professor Virohsa turned to look at the boy. She narrowed her eyes dangerously as she looked at the boy. *Had he killed a plant so soon?*, she wondered. She walked over to his dark green plant and looked at him expectantly. "No, boy. If your plant withers and loses its leaves, it dies", she replied. Now, her eyes were continously set on him. |
Unaware of that the professor was nearby, Nadia muttered to herself instructions from the book ("The ripe berries yield on expression 40 to 50 percent of juice of a green colour, which on keeping turns, however, gradually to a reddish or purplish brown colour, on account of the acidification of the saccharine and mucilaginous matter.") Then looked at her own plants and wrote down that the color it was presenting was green, ripe... maybe quite a dark green. Which meant its level of acidification was probably raising. She sprinkled some more water to help, well, digestion. She went back to look for direction and found this specie can be easily raised from seed in autumn, soon after the berries are ripe, usually about September, but if left too late the berries soften and will not bear carriage well. So if this plants were receintly planted, that must mean they are in that stage of maturity, she razoned while her own plant purred appreciatively. Dear, it almost begged for touch, which was not an option. Nadia chuckled. There was something else and it was that Nadia couldn't perceive the consistance of the berries to tell herself if it had reached that stage of maturity. It was rather hard-looking and not near ripe... Just then Nadia looked up to notice the professor looking back her way. It startled her some, then Nadia was forced to cough - and the plant seemed offended that Nadia would so rudely interrupt its humming. Nadia gave the professor no more than a side-ways puzzled look before returning her attention back at the Buckthorns. The professor seemed to be re-directing her attention somewhere else anyways. |
Raven looked at Mithos and sighed. "Killing a plant," she mubbled under her breath. "What in the bludger did you," she said wlaking towards him and examing the plant with wide eyes. |
Martha got another plant, this time she knew not to water it too much. |
"I was just asking, Professor." He said and gulped. He looked at his plant that kept changing green color everytime a cloud covered the sun. He added water until the plant was a baby blue color. It was so pretty he wanted to poke it. When another cloud covered the sun the plant changed to a brown color and Mithos saw some slime again. I hope it doesn't stink this time... he thought. |
As Professor Virohsa looked at Mithos, she heard a distant cough. She turned her attention to Nadia who was shrugging. Nadia's plant seemed to be humming beautifully. Grinning, she decided she wanted to go and look at Nadia's plant more closely when... she heard the sound of slime dropping from the plant in front of her. "What did you do, child?", she snapped. She looked at Raven for an answer. Tapping her foot on the ground, she was losing her patience. |
