Dungeon Corridor Kate and Rae made there way silently down to the dungeons, unnoticed. They passed all of the regular detention rooms and came upon a long stretch of blank wall. Kate stopped, trying to remember exactly where the door had been that she had seen in McAiken's orb. She glanced at Rae, who appeared to be doing the same thing. |
Rae pulled out her wand and began to tap stones along one wall before turning and tapping stones along the other. "This looks like the spot... now we just have to figure out where the door is hidden." |
Kate nodded when Rae identified the spot. She joined the other woman by the wall and put her hands on it. She could feel the magic protecting the spot that appeared to be blank wall. She moved her hands up and down on her portion of the wall, muttering quietly to herself and concentrating all of her energy on the wall in front of her. After a few minutes, the stone wall turned to wood beneath her hands. Slightly startled, Kate stepped back from the door. After a few moments the door disappeared again. Kate exchanged a look with Rae. "Cass, do you think we have any chance of getting this door to appear, not to mention getting past it, without that password?" |
"There's always a chance," Rae shrugged and put her hand where Kate's had just been. "The problem isn't just the password, though. It's encrypted with runes, covered by spells... it is tightly defended." She tapped her wand against the bricks and the door flickered into and out of sight. "We may have to go around it." |
Kate's eyebrows raised of their own accord. "Around?" she said in a surprised voice. "How exactly do you want to go around?" She had an idea, but surely... Kate smiled for the first time in hours; there might be a little fun to be had in this mess after all. |
Rae saw her smile and matched it. "Just like that old saying... if you can't open the door... create a window." She lifted her wand and pointed it a few feet down the wall from where they stood. A large red X appeared. "Would you like to do the honors? I recommend a blasting charm." |
Kate's smile broadened when she saw that she and Rae were on the same page. "You know I'd love to, Cass. I haven't been able to do a proper amount of damage for awhile now." Kate rolled up her sleeves dramatically, then took a stance in front of the large X. She paused for a moment to gather as much power as possible, then pointed at the spot on the wall and yelled "REDUCTO". !" The wall infront of her shattered, and the debris from it caused her to stumble backwards slightly and close her eyes. She opened her eyes to a large hole in the wall, large enough to easily get into the room behind it. |
Rae blew a puff of air into the dust, scattering it out of their way so that they could see into the hidden room. Inside, they spotted the other two professors bound to the wall by glowing handcuffs... and unconscious. Rae climbed over the rubble and knelt next to Riddle. "She's alive but very weak, it seems. Let's get them up to the Infirmary." Rae levitated Marcella's frail body out into the corridor. |
After Rae emerged with Riddle, Kate went into the small room and retrieved Lainey. Once she had levitated her out into the hall, she turned to Cass again. "Listen, only one of us needs to take these two to the infirmary. Why don't you go and make sure everything is alright with the guys, and I'll take care of them. It's a little disconcerting that our coins have remained so normal for so long. Go on, I've got it." Kate conjured two strechers for the women to make them a little easier to manage, and then set down the hall toward the hospital wing. |
Rae looked startled as she remembered the other half of their mission. "You're sure? Yes... of course you're sure." She settled Riddle to the floor, saluted Kate with her wand, and ran towards the stairs leading to the Entrance Hall. Whatever was going on couldn't have turned bad, could it? She'd have known by the coin signal. |
