Nadia was doing her best to ignore the chatting students in her back. She needn't try the answer anyways because Terry had it under control. BUT. The kids were disconcentrating her and she could hear anything! Couldn't they have a little decency to notice that some students over here are trying to stu---

That was it. The guy just jumped over the table! "Behave please! You can neither arrive late nor chat during class like that, and much less dance over the table!"

The outburst had come from her mouth before she could even stop it - oh her nerves, they were pushing all her buttons! Even if she was no Prefect... She ended the speech that way, saying, "Shhh!"

But then the interaction between the two girls turned into a fight, there and then! Oh, Nadia could cry out loud. It was better than just staring at it horrorified like she was!

Maria takes her bag and sits down. She holds her chin and she has teary eyes.
"Go away you rascal,"says Maria.
She looks at her paper.

"look..wait! rascal? rascal??? that's it!" sandra said, packing her things and putting her backpack on her back. 'I'm outta here!"

OOC- You two not only came in late, but started dancing and spamming this thread while the Professor was out. I'm closing this thread until she comes back.

Kali who usually tried to keep her cool lost it. "You two" she said sternly "Yes you two, you will serve detention later today. I still have a class to teach so either someone else will serve the detention or I will later. 60 points will be deducted for your behaviour. Be glad I didn't make it 100! I can't believe it. Out of my class now, and go wait in the detention hall where myself or another professor will meet you." she said her eyes flashing with anger.

She watched the two kids walk out and relaxed once again "I am sorry for that" she said "i'll apologize for them seeing as they probably won't, ok so lets get moving again, shall we?"

"Your answer is correct Drusilla but I was hoping for more detail... Terry nice answer, 2 points to Hufflepuff."

"Basically arithmancy focuses on mental qualities, well analyzing birthdays and names. Advanced arithmancy focuses more or less on the human potential."

"So here is a question for you, why does arithmancy work? Or is there not really a defined reason why...?" she asked the class with a small twinkle in her eyes, she always loved hearing peoples views on this...

Hebe smiles at the ravenclaws in question. Then gets back to her note taking and such.

Nadia raised her hand, "I would think it's because what has already been told; that the universe is organized in numbers, composed of mathematical patherns and vibrations that can be expressed with numbers. If Arithmancy works, it's because we are not doubting this fact and basing our belief in the universe being arranged like that. Once we believe in it, it becomes in fact true to our minds. Arithmancy, being closely related to Divination, has also for this reason doubted on its validity many times. Though higher leveled in accurancy, since we have onl one name and day of birth and mathematically speaking should have no flaws...

"So my answer would be that if we believe what Pythagoreas and his people believed, then yes there's a reason there. If we don't, then we possibly couldn't find a reason."

Nadia sighed at finishing her rather exahusteve definition.

"I believe Arithmancy works only in..well...certain circumstances," Birdy began, timdly, "Something like a coincidence. The numbers may depict charictaristics of yourself every now and then while at the same time, some people may never connect to Arithmancy," she paused, brining her fist to her face.

"I'm not making much sense," she laughed nervously, searching for an example of what she was saying, "It's like how in ancient times, people belived the geometric figures the five Platonic Solids represented the forces of the earth. They thought that these solids could bring balance to the universe. It seems foolish now, but some people really thought they worked."

"I guess it's a matter of faith for Arithmancy. If you believe the numbers tell the truth about one's character...then...they will," she found her ending somewhat lame, "Maybe you even subconciously mold to fit what the numbers say," she added, pleased to find a more adequate closing statement.

Lee rolled his eyes at the two ravenclaws, if they were going to get detention they might as well of recieved it for a stylish crime not dancing on tables. Lee continued to write down notes avoiding eye contact from the professor, he seemed to loath her, even more than Borr and Shwmae.

Zekk was astonished at the two claws actions, He couldn't believe they would do that in a classroom and lose 60 points. Did they really think it was ok? He thinks to himself. KNowing he will have to try harder to recover those 60 points.

Calista was still thinking of what appropriate answer might she give. She believed in Birdy's answer somehow. She didn't answer anyway, because her thoughts were not clear. She kept on listening in class instead.

I think Arithmancy works because it does not try to predict the future. It generally is used to predict when conditions will be favorable to do something. Say your character number is 5. It could be said that that is your ideal day to do something important like get married.

Diana slapped her hand onto her face and let out a small groan. Morons, she thought. I cannot believe...I cannot believe we have these dimwits in our house, messing up with our points. I've just wished I could've done something to stop them, but all I did was to sit here and let them ruin it for us. A tiny voice spoke in the back of her head. "Even if you try to, your house would still be losing more house points anyway."

With the commotion having been taken care of, Diana contined to listen to the professor and take more notes.

"Seeing as we have touched in the history of arithmancy somewhat lets look at the numbers, now who knows what numbers we use? How do we use the numbers? And what are master numbers? Please keep in mind well you are in this class, master numbers are only 11, 22, not 33, or 44 ONLY 11 and 22."

Nadia raised her hand, "We use numbers from 1 to 9, always of one digit. We either assign a number for each letter of the abecedary, arranging the numbers on letters by its order and until we reach the 9 and start over from 1, OR we use numbers related to us: our birthdate year, day, month and even the time when you were born. Of course, what we do with those numbers depends on the task at hand and which number we are trying to decipher."

"For figuring out our Character, Heart and Social Numbers (otherwise known as Expression/Destiny, Soul and Personality numbers) you need your birth name numbers. In the first, you add together the numbers of your birth name; the second, add together the vowels of your birth name; and third, add together the consonants of your birth name. The Maturity number is found out by adding together your Life Path Number and your Destiny Number. The Special Traits deal with the frecuency with which a number appears in your name. The chart used it this:

Xavier was confused. He didn't know what the teacher was talking about. "I guess I'll wait for an explanation," he thinks to himself.

Cherry looked up from the notes she was taking, still with a look of puzzlement on her face. Looking around the classroom, she thankfully realised that at least, she wasn't the only one.

]Jamie completely knew all this stuff, and Nadia knew a lot of these things also! Jamie couldn't wait to actually do something instead of discussing it, but I guess since there are first years how actually don't understand it.

Jade stopped taking notes and looked up at Nadia. She only understood about half of what she said. Not even that much. Jade looked at the professor for further explaniation, her quill poised to write it all down.

for the different character types, are the explanations always detailed or general, because if they were general, it would almost always be right?

Tori had a very confused look on her face as she take notes. She never had this class at her old school. She elbowed Jade who she was seating next to and asked her quietly "Do get any of this? Cause I'm totally lost."

"Very good, Nadia, 5 points to Slytherin."

Kali looked around the room and saw several very confused looks and decided to try and break the concept down... "In arithmancy we use the numbers 1-9, and then 11 and 22, which are called the 'master numbers' if you continue to take arithmancy with another professor, you may realize that some consider 33, 44, etc master numbers." she paused to let everyone catch up on notes "...now you may wonder how we only use the numbers 1-9, 11 and 22. By use I mean final answer, so for example after calculating your lifepath number, you get the number 34, you then would simplify it by taking the two digits and adding them in this case 3 and 4 to get 7."

"The chart Nadia was explaining is a vital component of arithmancy I recommend writing it down in your notes..." with that she waved her wand and the chart appeared so everyone could copy it.

Birdy raised her hand as she finished copying down the chart.

"Yes, Professor," she said, "If Arithmancy uses these number charts, couldn't Muggles practice Arithmancy? Why is it considered a magical practice if Muggles use numbers in their everyday life as well?"

Serena carefully took notes, and layed out her chart as she listened to the Professor.
