What in Merlin's Beard is going on?! (Term 8)

"I step away from my computer for (two minutes/half an hour/three hours/a day) and suddenly when I get back, something really weird happened and nobody will tell me, and I don't want to go through like, (10/15/100) new posts just to find out what! Tell me now! Somebody! Anybody! HEEEELLLLP!"

Sound familiar? Do not dispair, this thread is here to help you catch up with the various goings-on in the Hogwarts School RP.
------

The school term has started, and there are a few changes in staff, plus the addition of a Ministry representative (Nora Leiden). She seems to want to inquire on how students feel about the safety of Hogwarts, though some staff and students appear to be quite wary of her. Hogsmede is undergoing serious reconstruction after being trashed/vandalized over the summer. Hendrik appears to know who is responsible, but is not telling.

The Daily Prophet includes a rather scandalous article about the past events at Hogwarts, written by Dempsey Doodle. Ravenclaw Prefect Ashlie seems to have taken the greatest (at least most noticable) offense to the article, and is probably not the only one to have decided that the article and Miss Leiden's presence are somehow linked. Miss Leiden has gotten approval from the Headmaster to inspect the staff's classes. She targeted all the classes with the ex-ghost profs and Rae.

The student paper, SS Quill, contains an article about the arrival of Miss Leiden (before that, an introductory article about the beginning of term) and an editorial written by Ashlie in response to Dempsey Doodle's article.

Despite attempts from some, Leiden has now found out who exactly let down Hogwart's defenses (i.e. opened the door) resulting in the chaotic fight in the castle against Lord Voldemortist. Professor Rae admitted to it (to the horror of several students).

Leiden inspected Divination and Potions classes, and now has decided to suspend Airlia, Riddle, Lainley and Rae from teaching duties, getting replacements from the Ministry. Rae has yet to be ousted, but it seems like this latest move has opened a rather nasty Pandora's Box of emotions, expecially on the student's end.

Quote:

Professor Kris Airlia --> Sophie_Melita
Professor Marcella Riddle --> Rhiane Shwmae
Professor Cassandra Rae --> Josef_Perry
Profesior Angelica Lainey --> Berty Borr
Professor Bree --> Kali_O'Hara
Headmaster Hendrik --> Riddock

(thanks to Nadia, this time quicker on the uptake than me. *bows*)

Looks like students are channelling some serious emotion into productiveness, several first/second years backed up by Professor Bree redecorating Berty Borr's office (and Berty himself). Alas, it has cost them, now Bree is out...

...that is not to say that's the only thing going on. Ashlie and Terry are scheming together to form somethign akin to Dumbledore's Army--SAMMO. (Students Against Meddling Ministry Officials. Quaint.)

Zekke snuck into several professor's offices (Rae, Airlia in particular) and stole a whole bunch of stuff back. So far, all he's returned is Rae's photo, but Terry is getting the blame from Perry for stealing it (oops!).

UPDATE: Most of the stuff has been returned. Most.

Hubert, Airlia's House-elf, was ordered to clean up the...artwork in Borr's "office", and, shall we say, pitched in to the revolution. Alas, Borr is a smart one, and is now howing in fury (with ripped pants) towards wherever Airlia may be. Borr wants to take Hubert away from Airlia (legally of course. Of course...) and Marcella has gone and stuck a "kick me" sign on his ripped trousers. He suceeded...or did he? Only time will tell.

All classes run by the Ministry reps so far have either been rediculously basic, or a joke. And some students have OWLS and NEWTS, you know!

Sidenote: Ron (gryffindor_1) sank his boat in a lake and was eaten by the Giant Squid. Or at least, dragged under. Do not try this at home, folks.

Remember Lee the Hufflepuff? He's been caught for doing something (besides the painting incident) and Shwame has got him to be a spy for the Ministry. He's supposed to ferret out information about last term...but will he? He's already snapped in the halls, and is telling Professor Bree + Slytherin Prefects some sketchy details about his predicament in Bree's office.

ADDITION: Melita's got Veritaserum! (Run, all you children! Run!)

Lee's been doped with Veritaserum and he's let slip who put up that wonderful poster of Melita and Borr in Hogesmade. He's also told her about SAMMO, and now that Shwame is in the SAMMO meeting, the members are trying to play it cool, like it was indeed a "Homework Group".

Bree has gotten into trouble for instructing when she is suspended. Now she can't leave the castle under any circumstances. SAMMO is...under survaillence? A Ravenclaw (Dark_Chimera) was listening in on the whole thing (i think).

Slytherin prefects Jaren and Zekke have brought one of Melita's cookies to Airlia for scientific analysis.

Lee was dragged off by Borr to a Borr dentention (Dun dun DUNN!) And Ganymede set off a slew of Dungbombs+a portable swamp in Borr's office, which has been cleaned up by Jaren before anyone notices.

Headmaster Hendrik has been ordered to step down in accordance to Clause which-one-is-it-now...also because Leiden likes him, but Hendrik (as we all know) is in love with Professor Pheonix. This has Professor Riddle in a hissy fit, to put it lightly, but the student body has not been informed yet. Well, directly anyway.

UPDATE: A trial is to be held soon by "Headmistress" Leiden, the accused being Professors Riddle, Lainley and Airlia. She is currently looking for student testifiers.

Plain outrageous insulting of Bertie Borr during HoM class resulted in a bunch of students (two Slyths, one Huffie, one Claw) landing themselves in detention. One Slytherin seems to be sucking up to Borr quite a bit...

Professors seem to prefer the Hog's Head to the Three Broomsticks. Looks like everyone has been in there...a small society which formed with the goal of freeing Hubert was busted by Josef Perry, and Lainley, who was "helping" somewhat with the Polyjuice Potion the students were brewing, is now confined to quarters. The kiddies got detention.

THE TRIAL HAS BEGUN! Check the post below this one for details on the trial.

Update: School ball (blech!) Leiden has not-so-wisely announced that the ex-ghost profs will not be returning, and Rae + Bree have been fired.

Current weather: Summer?

Status of student body: Curse you! You'll pay for this! May Merlin's Thumbs Deliver Justice! [/random cornyness]

The Trial--Details

(Reports may be vauge due to sheer volume of posts to be read through :dizzy:)

Lainley is the first to be tried. Leiden questioned her about how she came back to life, where the other staff was during the time of the revival/Lord Voldemortist's attack, and where she was before the attack. Quite a bit of emphasis on the attack and the fact that Lainley left as a ghost to be regenerated just before the attack. Then she asked Lainley about her teaching methods, etc.

Francis Llewellyn (2nd Year Ravenclaw) was next, giving testimony that she believed the professors did all they could to defend the students in the last attack, as well as some testimony on Professor Riddle's behalf...except one of the jurors brought up the fact that she'd been involved in two "rebellion groups" this term (oops!).

Airlia next. Some stuff on the Draught from last term, and she admitting that the staff had locked themselves in the Spirit Room away from the rest of the school (owch!). Some discussion on her class methods, that testing the potions on the students themselves wasn't all that safe.

Jaren Kymers (5th year Slytherin). Spectators seem to have liked his testimony, mostly defensive with a few jabs at Leiden's side comments and reasoning. Briefly touched on what he thought of the field trips, then a load of stuff on the attack last term, where he was monitoring the profs.

Riddle next, and a complete offensive strategy, unfortunately letting herself be provoked by Leiden's questioning. Leiden mostly dissed her for her age, Riddle returned the comments, then stormed off in a huff without finishing her testimony, prompting Leiden to have her, Airlia and Lainley removed from the room and locking the students in (I think. So that they can't follow at any rate.)

Zekke de Barticot (5th year Slytherin). Offered some insight as to what the students felt towards the events at the beginning of this term and argued completely in favour of the Professors on trial (at least Lainley and Airlia). Leiden didn't seem to like him though and dismissed him rather quickly. Needless to say, he got rather mad and stormed off, then re-entered the courtroom later to watch the remaining testimonies.

Currently on the stand: Naida Rey, 5th year Slytherin (what happened to the other houses?)

Makani 01-29-2005 11:09 PM

I -think- it was Slytherin. Nadia went crazy with butterbeer one night and I think that was why. May be wrong, though.

Kris: Yes, it was Slytherin but, a big deal wasn't made of it because of the tragedy at the end of last term.

She-Who-Is-Not-To-Be-Psycho! 01-31-2005 02:34 AM

Do I really need to tell? *looks innocent*

Backslash, I realize you haven't updated about the SS Quill articles. While half-ooc it still seems IC enough. Right now I have just found out the former story about how Marcella and cia were restored to their bodies: Suppossedly, a new medicine based on an ancient technique to make ghost back into life has been found/discovered/redicovered. (Yeeeah...) Read it?

Notice to the mods: the SS Quill webpage link isn't working.

EDIT: Ah, thanks for telling. Um, would somebody mind changing the post in the Common Rooms to say that? Or should I do it myself?
=P

Aris 02-03-2005 02:08 AM

I don't know if we are capable of submitting this but alot of "other people" are working together to get clues about the mystery of Hogsmeade and why the Professors seem so wel... *cough* HBH! But any who!

Backslash 02-03-2005 04:48 AM

I've spent most of my brainpower figuring out the Ministry rep...not much sucess there :-p For some reason I'm already confused on the goings-on in the school, and I'm the one supposedly keeping track.

Joy Miller 02-03-2005 11:37 PM

What exactly confuses you? *wicked grin*

Backslash 02-04-2005 06:06 PM

Firstly, whether you were shouting at Ashlie or me, but I've solved that one.

Secondly, how much Hendrik is attempting to leave vague, or does not know.

Thirdly...the stuff that my character has been discussing with other members of his house. It's all a load of philosophy, which I am not exactly good at. Then again, it's only been about two-three weeks into the term, so nothing has really had a chance to happen yet.

Is there any way to read/access back issues of the SS Quill, say from the beginning of this term? I wasn't done reading it yet :p (EDIT: Wait, nevermind, I found it.)

Joy Miller 02-05-2005 12:01 AM

1. I was shouting at all the people that were forcing me to fit into all your preconcieved ideas about Ministry personnel. Take that as you will.

2. I don't know exactly what Hendrik plans on sharing. Personally, and obviously this is all ooc, I'm surprised with what he HAS already shared. There's also been a fall-down in communication on my part which is why the Quill article shows a descrepancy of information. I'd be interested to learn from Nadia exactly what contradictions she sees so we can make reparations.

3. I don't know what exactly this "stuff" is, so I can't help you. I can say however that I've kinda seen this problem when dealing with philosophy: we all have our own opinions about magic and how it works. Unfortunately, we can't all be right. The people in charge (ie the professors) are the ones who get to determine the nature of magic and magical theory. Don't care how cool your theory is or how brilliant you think you are or even how RIGHT you think you are... the theories of the teacher prevail. this isn't geared just at YOU... actually, its geared at everyone who thinks they're ideas hold more merit than their teachers.

Mrs. Weasley 02-05-2005 06:05 PM

I am curious to know exactly what the Ministry of Magic knows about what went on last term. From what I can gather from comments made by Professor Hendrik and Miss Leiden, the ministry knows nothing about the draught and the reviving ceremony. So I assume Miss Leiden has come to find out more about that, and plans to interview the teachers and students as need be. Is this Miss Leiden modeled after Umbridge from the Order of the Phoenix? If so then as a student my suspicions about her would be correct. One more thing how does the destruction of Hogsmeade fit into the story? There is alot of talk in the Corner thread that Voldemort was responsible for it and plans to return and harm the students. That doesn't make alot of sense to me.

Backslash 02-05-2005 10:50 PM

*cough*Lord VoldemorTIST*cough*

And I guess how Hogesmede ties into all of this is just another one of the many things we students have to find out about :)

She-Who-Is-Not-To-Be-Psycho! 02-06-2005 12:13 AM

Events to list:
- Duelling Arena been added to the student body's activities.
- List of the people that has spoken to Miss Leiden (not that you should know): Emil, Kelli, Ahlie and Jaren.
(*I mean that actually 'talked', not passing by, stare, or introducing themselves though then there's more people to add)
- Valentine is coming -- well, if Halloween meant something...

Cassirin 02-06-2005 09:22 PM

*cough* Interesting turn of events at the start of the DADA class. *cough*

*doesn't shamelessly promote her class*

Well, that was fun...

draeya 02-07-2005 04:16 AM

UPDATE on people who have talked to Miss Leiden in her Office:

fr2nc1z - Ravenclaw
Riyon-BlueEyes - Ravenclaw
Edge - Gryffindor (for now)
slipstick - Gryffindor
Backslash - Slytherin
Latinhottie13 - Slytherin
ebony_wandson - Ravenclaw
SapphireMisty - Ravenclaw
She-Who-Is-Not-To-Be-Psycho! - Slytherin
all4oliverwood - Gryffindor
PHLphlyest - Slytherin
Hermione_loves_Ron - Ravenclaw
Gabriella - Slytherin
mysticelf - Hufflepuff
hpfan142 - Ravenclaw
draeya - Gryffindor (me... MAHAHAHA)

Cassirin 02-07-2005 04:24 AM

Well... don't count your chickens... it doesn't really count that she's talked to you if you're stalking her office and she hasn't responded to you yet. There are two philosophies professors take on this site, and I assume that some students do it this way too. Some people post anywhere they want as they want. Others RP in one place at a time. Rae does that... meaning that if she's in her office, she won't post in the GH or in a hallway. If she's in the hallway, she doesn't post in the GH or her office until she says she's left. That makes more sense to me. It appears that Miss Leidon is one of these in the latter group... she's not in her office.. so all those people are talking to themselves at this point.

Jaren... I'm sad you missed out on that mini-drama in my class. I'm not excited about that surprise visit *frowns*

She-Who-Is-Not-To-Be-Psycho! 02-07-2005 05:16 AM

Me? Talking to Leiden? *puts innocent smile* Just where did that come from? ah, maybe that small interaction on HoM. Mmh...

Where are you Back-y!?!?! You have a bunch of stalkers right here waiting for you =P

And yes, you might want to add that part on the updating: It is finally revealed how the entrance security got down. Leiden vs Rae. Though not really, lol.

Though I agree with that way of RPGing I do have a problem when I am waiting for three people to respond to me and class started. Therefore I make what I call 'Time-Hole'. I know, I know, nobody understand what I mean by time-hole thinggy... only a couple of people might. Lol. But seeing time goes much faster in the RPG (the term years are only months) a small gap is coherent... me thinks. (NOTE ON DADA CLASS: Of course I don't think you had stolen it from me. The only person Nadia has talked to about her Wind Spells is.... mmh, better not say it, hehe. Spots might have known too. Mmh, maybe I should quote that saying 'genius think alike' here. Too coincidental.)

I'm pretty much repeating everything ain't I? I'm a stalker, I admit it.

Backslash 02-07-2005 05:34 AM

NOOOO! Blast having to study Calculus! (melodramatically hits head on table) Jaren was trying so hard to stall that inevitable moment! And DADA class looked so interesting! (mutters incomprehensibly)

Oh well, on to plan B. And not your plan B, Nadia.

Additions: I tend to play it according to when the scene began, or when I joined the scene. For example if I joined a scene down by the lake before class A began, then no matter when the scene at the lake ends, the next thing my character would do would be to go to class A, etc. So if I seem in two places at once, I blame it on the time lag.

Biochemkris 02-14-2005 01:49 AM

No update on what went on during potions? :shifty:

I must admit... I'm disappointed too. *grin*

Joy Miller 02-14-2005 05:09 AM

*cough* I can't believe it. I guess I found the time of day to do my mischief so that noone even notices.

Backslash 02-14-2005 05:22 AM

Okay, now I know for sure. Things go on around here only when I'm offline. Update on the way, don't you fret.

Leeness 02-14-2005 05:35 PM

well professor Riddle and Professor Airlia have been replaced by othe ministry workers.

Am loving this plot :D

fr2nc1z 02-14-2005 05:36 PM

Also, Professor Lainey received an owl letter.. Does this mean she may get to leave as well?

babydriver27 02-14-2005 05:39 PM

Miss Leiden stated to the Headmaster that Professors Airlia, Rae, Lainey, and Riddle were going to be replaced, but we aren't supposed to know this IC.

She-Who-Is-Not-To-Be-Psycho! 02-14-2005 05:40 PM

Ha! I KNEW Valentine would be eventfull.

So according to clausule-blahwhatisit the following professors have been removed and replaced from their positions. This is how:

Professor Kris Airlia --> Sophie_Melita
Professor Marcella Riddle --> Rhiane Shwmae
Professor Erin Rae --> Josef_Perry
Professior Ty Lainey --> Berty Borr

Situation of the student body?: *clinks on professors* Noooooo!! Please don't goooo!!

babydriver27 02-14-2005 07:40 PM

Update on the Ministry situation: Professor Lainey's replacement is Berty Borr.

All three of these officials look like trouble. Oh boy, I can't wait for the classes to start.
