Sarah got up to collect a bowl thinking 'Yay! Maybe we get to make cookies!' She sat back down looking at what was in it waiting for the professor to start talking again.

"As a matter of fact, we are going to be baking chocolate chip cookies... My favorite," Sophie smiled, brightly. "Now I know baking cookies doesn't sound like it has anything to do with potions but, the two are very similar. I figured we would start off baking, which is relatively safe, before we move onto any real potions work.

"I've written the instructions on the board. Once you have your cookie dough ready, you can come up and get a tray to put the cookies on. Then, the house elves from the kitchen have agreed to take them down to the ovens to bake. We can have a little party after they are done to celebrate the successful class and eat the delicious cookies," she said, cheerfully, taking one of her own cookies from the tray on her desk and sitting back down to nibble on it while the students got to work.

Francis gulped and nodded. Trying to hide her surprise, she decided that she needed to do whatever was required to help Ravenclaw win the house cup this year. Writing the instructions on her quill, she prepared her ingredients and got ready to start.

As she worked on her cookie dough, she looked attentively at the other students. Some seemed as surprised as she felt. Shrugging it off, she placed a lot of effort on making her cookies. It seemed bizarre.. that she was at a Potions classroom doing cookies. However, she needed to prove that she was more than adequate in doing cookies, so that soon enough they could start on potions.

After working on her dough and having it finished, she walked up to Miss Melita. Smiling, she asked for a tray and placed her cookies on a tray.

Xavier stares at Professor Melita from his table. "Cooking!" he says loud enough so that everyone can hear. "That has nothing to do with potions. That is unless you're going to have is put "special" ingredients in them!" He stands up. "I'm leaving! Anyone with me?" He gathers his stuff up and heads for the door.

:: Ganymede looked at the "potion" and rolled her eyes. Everything is in metric. I usually bake with cups, ounces and spoonfulls. Ganymede thought. Atleast its an easy grade. I don't see though how baking cookies will help me with my OWLS. Ganymede took a sigh and copied the ingredients down. Shrugging, she got up and grabbed the ingredients. Placing them in a row on her desk, she made it so that Melita's head was right above the container of water. Ganymede giggled as she looked through the water at the distorted body of the ugly Professor. She quickly added the water to the rest and began to mix it all up. ::

Although the instructions that the Professor had assigned were not magic related, Anelreas did not complain. She enjoyed cooking; especially making sweets. With a small smile, she began mixing the ingredients in two separate bowls, stirring in the occasional ingredient every now and then.

After mixing the ingredients in the two bowls, she began on the next step; combining them together. Brushing a strand of hair behind her hair, she did so. After making sure she did not pour any batter onto her desk, she placed down the smaller bowl and began mixing the combined ingredients.

Once she was satisfied with her mixing, she walked up to the front of the room and grabbed a cookie sheet. She used a small measuring cup to spoon the batter into the small holes. Once she had scraped the sides to get the rest of the mixture, she walked up to the front of the room with her tray.

"Where would you like me to put these?" She asked the Professor, lifting the tray up in reference..

"wow,choco chips!I love it"ivana said.Then she reads the instructions and begins to cook."It's easy..I love cooking!"

The look on Nadia's face was espectacular. It said 'duh', 'what the--' and 'should have guessed it' all in the same space of time and on the same weird expression. On top of it all, she thought she was practically chocking on laughter as her face grew red. However, she just moved to do as told, and really not that surprised at all about what Melinta was asking them. And by the look of it, she was the only one expecting it a mile away. Funny how things worked.

Nadia picked all neccessary ingredients, and started. Well, she thought, if she was pretty good at potion brewing, why shouldn't she be good at cooking? And in a way, this -could- come in handy. A small smirk, an humored smirk, appeared in her face as she couldn't suppress that subtle giggling.

*sitting in the back of the room with her bowl... chuckling with the hugest grin on her face... while leaning back in her chair with her feet on another chair... it was very difficult for Vikki to not just bust up laughting... shes been present during class... just never was that active*

We're not children who bake cookies and think it to be a great surprise... its just plain dumb... this teacher is majorly wrong in the head... shes all happy-go-joly... NO ONES happy-go-joly every freakin day... I mean come on... I exspecially dont like how shes treating us... WERE NOT FIVE!!!!

Inhail... exhail... if it wasn't for yoga... I would of already gone crazy.

*looks at her bowl in disgust... looks at her other classmates and grins... everyone, I believe, have the same thoughts I have about this teacher... shes a grrr... sits back and waits for class to continue...*

Lee couldn't help but laugh, the woman was off her nut! honestly cokkies and potions? they are nothing a like. However Lee wasn't objecting, he always enjoyed cooking especially chocolate things.

Lee gathered the ingredients of the stuff that he needed, reading carefully off the board. One thing that Miss Melita was right about, it was generally safer and easier all the same. Lee started doing the points on the board and then placed his uncooked cookies on a tray.

Rosa yawned. she liked baking cookies but why were they doing it in class? She stared at the holes to put your cauldron on. why weren't they baking them theirselves? why ask the house-elves? she measured the dry ingredients and put them together. then she measured the wet ingredients and mixed them. she slowly added the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients not to make lumps. then she went to the front and grabbed a tray. she put her cookie dough on the tray in a special pattern so she'd recognise her own cookies when they got out. she walked to the desk of professor melita. 'professor,' she said. 'shouldn't we put our names somehwere so we recognise our own cookies?'

After she took the bowl and sat back down in her seat, Alex stared at the board in disbelief. She then turned her gaze to Professor Melita.
'We're baking ... cookies?' she asked, choking on her words.

Noel watches Xavier leave the room, "Me too. This is ridiculous. We're not seven and this is potions class. Unless you start taking us seriously I'm out," Noel gathers her stuff and leaves the room, shaking her head.

Sarah read through the board and started following the instructions, 'This will definitely help us in our OWL' she thought sarcastically.

Julia looks at the professor for an extra minute. She wonders why cookies?! How in the world is that supposed to help them?! She sighs and copies down the instructions onto a piece of parchment. She follows the directions and finishes. She looks at her cookie dough. She rereads the ingredients to make sure she did it correctly.

Selena was torn...she didn't know whether to up and leave, stay and insult the teacher, or shut up and BAKE cookies in potions class. "Uhhh I'm a transfer student from the U.S. Ms. Melita and we don't use this measuring system."

Selena looked at the professor "Ummm Professor we're not gonna have to eat these are we?" Selena said as politely as possible "I mean...it's just...well I don't like your cookies." Selena said this knowing full well she's never eaten a cookie from ms. melita a day in her life "maybe it's an ingredient? I mean i don't mind making it...i just don't want to have to eat it." Selena knew if they were making the cookies they were safe to eat, but she still didn't want to have to eat them.

Sophie was heardbroken that two of her students walked out of class. She needed to speak with Berty but, unfortunately, she needed to stay for the rest of the students who were being nice to her. She took out a sheet of parchment and wrote down the names of the students who left so she could discuss with Berty what she should do. Xavier (parvatifan) and Noel (XxNoelxX)...

"No, you don't have to eat the cookies if you don't like them, dear," she said, trying to sound cheerful, though she was devastated that two of her students had just walked out.

"The reason we are baking cookies is that the process of measuring and stirring are very important in potions. They are also important in baking. However, it is much safer if you make an error in baking than in potions so, we are starting off with baking," Sophie clarified. "And I understand that some of you may have transferred from other countries but, here we will be using this measuring system and you should have come prepared with the appropriate measuring instruments when you came to school."

Francis nodded and took notes. "But of course Miss Melita.. After all, we do need to learn to be careful about our measuring", she added with a comforting smile. Francis shrugged it off and waited for her cookies to be ready. Going back to her seat, she opened up her parchment and looked at the other students carefully. It annoyed her that students could be so reckless and directly confront the Officials like that. There were other ways.. oh yes.. that would be more effective.

Professor, I understand yo had good intentions, but honestly, cookies? You are a teacher after all, you might want to think of a better way to well.... teach.

-she bites into a cookie-

Not wanting to let the professor down, Sabina followed the professor's instructions very clearly and after working for many minutes with utmost concentration, she was finally successful in making the cookie dough. She had added the exact amount of sugar and oil which had made her dough just the way her professor wanted. Smiling at her work, she placed her cookies on a tray.

Meghan slowly nodded as she waited for her cookies to finish cooking. She took out her cookies and set them on the desk. She decided to herself that she didn't want to eat them.

Linnea watched as her cookies finished cooking and put them on a tray, though they smelt really good, she was feeling a bit ill from lunch I knew I shouldn't have had that much candy she thought to herself, oh well, I've learned my lesson now.

~Miss Melita's Chocolate Chip Cookies~

250 g unbleached white flour
10 ml (2 tsp) baking powder
2½ ml (½ tsp) salt
125 g chocolate chips
250 g light brown sugar
120 ml vegetable oil
5 ml vanilla
60 ml water

1. Sieve/sift the flour into a large bowl. Add the baking powder, salt, and chocolate chips. Make a well in the centre and set aside.

2. Add sugar and oil to medium-size bowl and mix well. Add vanilla and water and mix again.

2. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the well in the centre of the dry mixture.

3. Stir until well-mixed but be careful not to overwork the mixture.

4. Spoon onto the biscuit trays (ungreased).


Terry pulled her textbook out of her bag and read the title carefully. "Potions Level Five the cover said. She wanted to make sure she was in the right class. If she didn't know better, she would swear she was in Muggle Studies instead of Potions. Still a bit confused, she takes out a roll of parchment and her quill and writes the recipe down. Since she only brought potions supplies with her, Terry must transfigure her cauldron into a mixing bowl, her mortar and pestal into a sieve, and her scales into a set of measuring cups and spoons. Now that she has the right equipment, she goes up to the front of the class to collect her ingredients. Smiling at Professor Melita she ask, "Professor, I've managed to improvise using transfiguration charms my potions equipment so they can be used to mix cookie dough, but I don't have anything to transform into a baking sheet. Do you have a couple of baking sheets I can borrow. I believe,judging from the amount of ingredients used, this recipe will make about two dozen cookies. I think I will need about two baking sheets to hold all the cookies." Terry couldn't believe they were going to bake cookies in potions class, but the professor was right. The principle behind baking and potion making were the same.

Nadia measured the white flour and got it all in the bowl by her side, 250 grames. She used the same measuring jugs to get the 10ml baking powder, then added it (way easier than potion making to be honest). She did risk the 1/2 a tea-spoon of salt, a little later regretting it. To weight the chocolate chips, 125 g, she used kitchen scales. She didn't completely undertand the part about 'setting aside' once getting the mix but did it.

To weight the sugar, she packed sugar down lightly with back of spoon, then level off, and she had 250 g. Again with the measuring jugs, she meassure the 120 ml vegetable oil, the 5ml vanilla and 60 ml water, then added those to nother bowl and mix until she couldn't make out the ingredients separatedly. Only then she mixed both mixture - again, much easier than in potions she thought. Now she started mixing, being brave enough to mix with an enchanted spoon and not manually. Yes, she could dare on that... it was the heating/baking part the one that had her edgy.

Now done... and well, maybe a little too watery-looking but good enough, she moved to put the mix in a tray she levitated her way. Then 'spooned' the were-to-be cookies, a question forming in her mind she didn't dare ask at the time being.

Kiaria sat at her table, openmouthed. "Oh, no way. No freaking way am I making cookies. That's it. I can't stand this anymore." Kiaria turned to Selena and Meghan. "Guys, tell me when she's actually brewing potions, and not baking cookies! I am out of here!" She gathered up her things and angrily stormed out of the classroom, banging the door as she left.
