DADA Lesson 2 Professor Rae flicked her wand at the door to the classroom and watched it swing open. Once it was set in place, she turned back to the papers on her desk. She was doing some research on a spell for a friend in the Department of Aurors and Rae wanted to get another chapter scanned before the students wandered in. They'd be restless due to the nice day outside, but it was getting colder each day. |
Bailey walked into the classroom and took a seat near the front. She eagerly took out her textbook, quill, and some spare parchment and placed them on her desk. |
Miss Leiden slipped into the classroom and took a seat in the back row. "I hope you don't mind me sitting in today, Professor," she called up to the Professor who had not yet looked up. |
Professor Rae looked up with surprise. She nodded a greeting to Bailey before turning her attention to the woman in the back of her room. "I don't mind, Miss Leiden. You're welcome to stay and watch." She turned back to her book before looking up again. "I hear you've been asking questions. Have any for me?" |
Selena walks in and takes a seat "Hey Professor" |
Hannah walked into the class room. and sat down, she pulled out her wand, quill and ink. |
Another student entered, and Leiden waited until she was seated before she spoke up. "Actually, Professor, I do have a question. I know that you were defending the castle by yourself in the Entrance Hall and that you almost died in the Spirit Room. I've been communicating with the Department of Mysteries about some security spells we could use on the doors in the Entrance Hall to keep out undesirables, but I can't figure out how the Dark Lord blasted through the door. I don't know how those spells failed, so I can't perfect a new defense." |
Professor Rae's eyes widened and her face paled. She opened her mouth a few times before she swallowed and looked at the few students present. It was well-known anyway, and she wasn't sure why someone hadn't said anything before. Better that it came from her. "Well, Miss Leiden, the truth is... Voldemortist didn't blast through the doors. Someone opened them. I opened them, in fact. I was going out to retrieve the bodies of the students killed on the grounds and couldn't get back to seal them again before he appeared." |
*turns and looks at Miss Leiden then back to toward Professor Rae* Selena thought to herself "Hmmm I thought this is what owls are for" Selena shrugs her shoulders and continues to take out her things |
Leiden was shocked. This was the last thing she expected to hear. Imagine... a professor being so foolish as to open a sealed door when they KNEW the Dark Lord was lurking about. "Well, I must admit it saddens me to hear that. Surely you knew that what you were doing was dangerous." |
Hannah lisend to the two women talk, even though she was not there last term she did't think Miss Leiden, was there for what she said she was! she thought to her self. |
Raven sat silent and looked at Professor Rae. She was very confused and yet still hoping that there was no point in Miss Leiden asking that. Raven opened her mouth but nothing had came out. She wanted to defend Professor Rae but something deep down stopped her. |
Professor Rae tried not to scowl. It was all well and good to come in afterward and judge what they had done, but the decision had made sense at the time. "I couldn't abide leaving those poor children outside. I set guards at the doors, and I had Professor Lainey with me for some of the time before she went to retrieve the Headmaster to help." Rae didn't mention that Lainey had stayed to take the potion and hadn't returned. |
Nadia entered the room just to hear some of the conversation going on between the professor and the Ministry official. As she put the pieces of the puzzle together it actually surprised her to hear what the professor was telling Miss Leiden. She shouldn't have, Nadia thought, fearing what was an obvious fact: Professor Rae might be fired over this if not confronting trial. And as many difference as she had had with the professor, and with Hendrik, she still couldn't let that happen. If only there was a way she could interrupt... Nadia sat down near them, waiting for a cue where to pop into the conversation. She was scared, though, for she could only imagine how she could matters worst. |
"You set children up to guard with you, Professor," Leiden clucked her tongue and rose to her feet. "I'm afraid I don't have time to sit in on your class afterall. I hope you all enjoy your lessons." She crossed the room and opened the door. "I would like to speak with you later about this, Professor." |
Raven eyes opened and as her mouth frowned. She stood up and ran towards Miss Leiden. "You don't know the full story so you don't know what happened. I know you want things to be safe around here but just trust Professor Rae. She wouldn't danger us," she said giving a week smile and pulling the Ministry Official back towards a seat. She walked back towards her desk and nodded at Professor Rae. She gave hope that things would get better and looked forward to contiune the lesson. |
Bailey watched Miss Leiden exit the room with her mouth open the slightest bit. She then looked up at Professor Rae curiously, before going back to reading her book while waiting for class to start. |
"Raven, no!" Rae looked scandalized. "Let her leave if she desires it. I'll speak with her at a later time. Please excuse my students, Miss Leiden. You're free to leave. I'll stop by your office sometime later in the week. I'm sure... we have a lot to say to each other." |
Jake looked from the courner of the room. He just sighed. He hated when they talked about last year. The year his cousin died. He shook it off and waited for the lesson to begin. |
*Alicia walks into the classroom and notices the tense atmosphere* "Uh... Hello professor, nice day, eh?" *Alicia then walks over and sits next to Hannah and whispers: "Whats going on?" |
Leiden stared at Raven in shock. "Well, I never... I thought we were getting along, miss, and here you are manhandling me as if I'm a first year for you to boss around. I'll have you know I'm an employee of the Minister and I should be treated with the same respect you give your teachers. Now... excuse me." She nodded at Rae and left the room. |
Nadia stood as well but made no other motion, her mouth opening like a fish out of water. She didn't have any explanations, any excuse to give, and she couldn't speak even if she had one. Finally she sat down again, her face shadowed with thoughts as she started pensive at her desk and muttering something under her breath. When she looked up she was facing Professor Rae with timid eyes... When the class ended, she needed to go speak with Miss Leiden, she resolved. It was against her original plan but, just in case, she had to make sure... |
She paused stayed still. She hated adults acting like students and wanted it to end. She was feeling her emotions boill but refrained from telling off any body. She was used to quite studying area's and civilized people. She remain froozen straing at the DADA professors expression. She paused and heard Miss Leidens words. She turned sharply and noticed that she had walked down the hall. Her hand slid down towards her wand as she noticed what was about to happen. She turned back and looked at Professor Rae. She wanted to leave but quickly put her hands on her face and turned towards the desk. |
