Birdy raised her hand, "I know 'aloha' is 'farewell' in Hawaiian," she shrugged, "But I'm not exactly sure how that ties into the unlocking of an object...Or Latin, for that matter."

serenasnape 02-22-2005 10:42 PM

Serena raised her hand.

"Well, I know 'mora' stands for 'obstacle', but the word 'aloha' is Hawaiian for farewell. So, alohomora is farewell to obstacle."

Starbreeze 02-22-2005 10:46 PM

Mithosr raised his hand " 'aloha' means farewell and 'mora' means obstacle."

Leeness 02-22-2005 10:49 PM

Lee sat taking notes, with the notepad Shwmae had given him nearby just in case.

groovychick 02-22-2005 10:58 PM

Sarah sat writing notes, listening to her classmates answers.

Francis raised her hand, "Alohomora, is an opening spell that comes from two different backgrouns. One, Aloho from the Hawaiian aloha meaning farewell or hello (which can be interpreted as the interaction of the words farewell=closing and hello=opening a conversation). And Mora from the Latin mora meaning obstacle."

Zekk 02-23-2005 12:12 AM

*sitting in class, Zekk pretends to read as he listens to everyone saying the same answers*

DanielHott_HesMine 02-23-2005 12:29 AM

Alohomora Jessica thought carefully Now what is it? she pounded her forehead in frustration, Charms was her favorite class, why didnt she know this?? she listend to all of the other students answer, they were pretty much the same thing, but she looked in the glossary just in case....yup, farewell obstacle. thats what it was. she pulled out a sugar cookie from a bag in her pocket and munched on it, waiting for the next question

OOC: This lesson will be finished tomorrow because I am off to an appointment right now. See you all tomorrow :D

Starbreeze 02-24-2005 01:06 AM

Mithos tought of all the other unlocking spells/charms and wondered if he was going to learn about them too. But he couldn't wait to practice Alohamora.

DarkMagicGurl 02-24-2005 04:11 AM

munnie sat pondering this particular question and thought, 'Alohamora meaning farewell to an obstical, but what does this have to do with opening locks? something isnt right...hmmm" she waited for the professor to answer.

Dae 02-24-2005 05:03 PM

Yes, yes...you are all correct! Alohomora broken down in Latin is as follows: "aloha" Haw. farewell + "mora" L. obstacle. Now I know that some of you are wondering what that has to do with unlocking somthing well, basically the charm causes the obstacle of the lock to dissappear, the lock is an obstacle because it is in your way of whatever you are trying to unlock :).

Now, the proper wand movement for alohomora is to wave your wand clockwise in the shape of a keyhole once while saying the incantation like so: * waves her wand to show the class the proper wand movement*. Now, if you will all line up in front of the door to the classroom you will practice the charm by unlocking the door.

*Waits for students to get lined up and ready*

Leeness 02-24-2005 05:05 PM

Lee lines up excited about trying out this spell

draeya 02-24-2005 05:07 PM

Hannah walked behide Lee and waited for the other students to get behide her.

wizcat 02-24-2005 05:09 PM

Rosa lined up after a gryffindor girl. and practiced the wand movement without saying alohomora

groovychick 02-24-2005 05:12 PM

Sarah lined up practising the wand movements.

LilRavenclaw 02-24-2005 05:20 PM

Meghan had gotten up in line behind a Hufflepuff. She thought this would be easy because she had done this charm many times before.

Dae 02-24-2005 06:50 PM

*Once the students were lined up, Professor Hanamon walked to the front of the classroom and locked the door.*

Alright, now one at a time I would like each of you to step forward when it is your turn and try to unlock the door using your charm. Now lets begin!! :wizard:

Leeness 02-24-2005 06:55 PM

Lee stepped froward first, he first of concentrated his stare at the lock. He raised his wand and went in a clockwise motion drawing and invisible lock, so to speak. he pronounced the incantation

"Alohomora"

The lock rattled for a moment, unable to lock or open. After a few minutes of waiting the lock decided to unlock.

"Hmmmmm must practise that more"

Lee smiled at the professor

"How did i do for my first shot?"

william.cook1990 02-24-2005 07:00 PM

"Alohomora," Xavier says. The lock rattles aruond a little bit but doesn't unlock.

"Alohomora," he says again. This time the lock clicks right open.

draeya 02-24-2005 07:44 PM

Hannah walked up to the door, she did the wand movements and said "Alohomora" at first the door did nothing but when she try again it open easly.

LilRavenclaw 02-24-2005 09:56 PM

Meghan stood there and smiled. She got ready and said "Alohomora!"
Easily the door unlocked on first try like she knew it would... And she thought "If only I do this well in Transfirguration..."

Starbreeze 02-24-2005 11:24 PM

Mithos pointed his wand to the lock moved its wand and said "Alohamora!" and the lock unlocked. He smiled happly. Mithos raised his hand "Professor, would this spell work on a lock with a charm that is supposed to make a lock.... locked? Like the locking Charm, Colloportus..."

elvishwitchx 02-25-2005 01:03 AM

When it was her turn to go, Bailey walked and stood right in front of the door. She rolled up her sleeves and carefully performed the proper wand motions as she shouted, "Alohomora!" The door easily opened, and she smiled as she walked to the back of the classroom.
