Alright class, settle down please so we can start. :) Today's lesson is on the Banishing Charm Dimitto Velociter. Now can anyone tell me what the incantation means in English without looking in your books? *The Professor waits patiently for someone to answer her.* |

Very very good!! That is exactly right!! Dimitto means "Send Away" and Velociter means "quickly". Now that we know what the incantation means we obivously know what this charm is for and that is to send somthing away from us rather rapidly. What are some examples of when this charm can be used? |

Meghan raised her hand. "Well something may be coming at you that um... you don't want coming... like a creature of some sort. Just use this charm and it can be sent away..." Meghan bit her lip. She hoped she had gotten this right. |

"I heard of that muggle thing, a bomb, and it is really dangerous if it explodes on you. Like an blasting charm-powered item - but much more powerful than snap cards. Anyway, if presented with the case of finding such an item, or one of the likes, you want to send it away right away. Right?" Well, that was tongue-knotting. |
"A bomb is more than just exploding on you," Linnea interjected, "you don't want to be anywhere near it when it goes off." Linnea felt that the Slytherin should know to be careful, most Slytherins didn't like her because she's a half-blood, but she didn't want someone to be around something that dangerous and not know. "Apparating would be better, because you could get farther away, and I'm not sure what a charm would do to it....." Linnea trailed off, hoping the Professor could say how a charm would affect something as unstable as a bomb. |
Nadia looked back surprised at the Ravenclaw, with a small hint of humor behind her eyes, "I have watched muggle movies so I can tell you are right on that one. Though I do have troubles believing such a force is not magical. Nevermind on that. But there are other exploding objects you want to push away from you, and you cannot always know how to apparate, especially under 17. "Such objects could be an exploding tuba -" she smiled at this, thinking of Musidora Barkwith especially -"or an Erumpent on their days, or just a the stinky flatulance from a dung bombs. Push it away and fast HAS to be the best way to get ride of them." She smiled at the girl, curious to see if there was something else to add. Dangerous creatures, dangerous beings and dangerous items. They had prestty much covered it all, no? |
Serena thought to herself that she knew exactly who she would like to use the banishing charm on. Actually, the list was growing... Leiden, Borr... she tried to get her mind back on the question and answered, "This charm could work to help push objects away, like a ball that could be coming at you in the stands during a quidditch match, or a spider or other creepy crawly or flying thing coming towards you. I was wondering, would it be possible to gain enough control with the charm to pass something like a jug or a plate down the table during dinner?" |
*Jessica thought for a minute* well, you could use it when you're in a temper i guess, like if i were made at my book or soemthing, i could send it away! oh yes, i like that Lee, send away little siblings, i should use that sometime! *giggles* |
Rosa looked up when the bombs were mentioned. esepcially the comparing with an exploding charm was funny, she thought. 'you can't imagine a bomb exploding without magic?' she said. 'but you would if something exploded in potions class, wouldn't you?' she looked around and then raised her hand. 'could you use it to push spells away?' she asked. |
Linnea looks back at the Slytherin and says "If you can't apparate, then run, jump out of a window or something. Just because you can use a charm doesn't mean you should. Until it is known how a charm would affect something like that, it is unwise to try when it matters most. Even the muggles who deal with bombs don't make fast and unexpected moves, they're very careful because some bombs are more sensitive than others." |
Yes, those are all great answers except I wouldn't try out the bomb one ;) Now that we know what the charm is used for, you need to know the proper wand movement. It is very simple, you just do a "no" symbol in the air like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ddledom/no.gif First, you make the circle while saying "Dimitto" then the slash in the middle while saying "Velociter" like this... *The professor walks to her desk and takes a sponge out of the crate and puts it on the corner of her desk aiming her wand at it.* "Dimitto Velociter!!" *In the blink of an eye the sponge shoots across the room and lands on the floor.* Now, everyone come up to the desk and get a sponge and you can practice for the rest of class. :) |
Lees miled and couldn't wait to start, he ran up to get oen of teh bigger sponges and walked back to his desk. He stared at it and concentrated on the box on which the sponge had once come from. This would be where it would be banished too. Lee made a circle with his wand "Dimitto" The sponge started shaking slightly and tehn he did the score in the middle "Velociter!" Lee sponge moved away from him and ito the box, although it fully banished it was now where near the spead of the professors he decided he would take more parctise. |
Meghan had gotten her sponge and set in on her desk. She exclaimed "Dimitto Velociter!". And easliy they sponge went across the room nearly missing Rosa. She retrieved her sponge and kept practicing and had done it correctly every time. |
"Well aren't we just little miss perfect" Lee laughed and said jokingly to Megan as his sponge flew across the room again. |
Shrugging at the comment about the bomb (hey, she thought it was a good idea :blush: ), Nadia went forward and took a sponge, then returned to her seat to practice. The spell seemed and was easy enough. The wand movement, first looking complicated, soon proved to be rather easier than thought to be. It went quite fluently with normal speed and the pronouncihation was not a problem. The first time, she managed to push the object away into the nearest wall. Then she managed less though equally fast. Lastly, the sponge landed on an innocent student's head when she made the small pulse mistake. It was not on Lee's head. "Sorry there," she said waving and smiling shippishly. |
