| | Astronomy Lesson 2 You ascend into a completely circular room at the top of the highest tower. The walls are completely made of floor to ceiling windows, except a metre wide section for a fire, giving an almost 360 degree view of the surrounds. Accessible through an almost invisible break is the glass is a wide stone balcony that completely encircles the room. There is a charm around the doorway that stops the stinging wind from entering.
The room is vast, having been expanded by magic. In it stands a very large and magnificent telescope that can reach even the most distant stars, its lenses pointing out through the glass wall, which actually revolves so that it can be turned any direction. On the balcony stand many smaller telescopes on tripods, and inside are about 30 small wooden desks shaped like stars and moons with very comfortable high backed chairs. They are arranged around a large Mahogany desk shaped like a crescent moon, with a similar chair… Professor Dainsie’s desk. Come on in and get ready for lesson 2! |

"Just wanted to share a fact that I found interesting. Since no one has ever gone deep enough in the Earth's core to find out what it's made off, we know what it is made of by analysing meteorites, which have been created at about the same time at the Earth."
Evy smiled.

(ooc: no, wait, I'm confused with this question)
"I'm not sure but... if we consider the first 5 to compose the core & crust, then: Exosphere, Termosphere, Mesosphere, Stratosphere and Troposphere... but those are 5 too."

The earth consists of five parts: the first, the atmosphere, is gaseous; the second, the hydrosphere, is liquid; the third, fourth, and fifth, the lithosphere, mantle, and core, are largely solid.
The atmosphere is the gaseous envelope that surrounds the solid body of the planet. Although it has a thickness of more than 1100 km (more than 700 mi), about half its mass is concentrated in the lower 5.6 km (3.5 mi). The lithosphere, consisting mainly of the cold, rigid, rocky crust of the earth, extends to depths of 100 km (60 mi). The hydrosphere is the layer of water that, in the form of the oceans, covers approximately 70.8 percent of the surface of the earth. The hydrosphere consists chiefly of the oceans, but technically includes all water surfaces in the world, including inland seas, lakes, rivers, and underground waters. The mantle and core are the heavy interior of the earth, making up most of the earth’s mass. Does anyone know the total surface area of the earth, in sq km? |

| T l Guitar ♥ l l Bed Police l S Yep, you both get 5 points for that effort!
Radiometric dating has enabled scientists to arrive at an estimate of 4.65 billion years for the age of the earth.
The magnetic poles of the earth do not correspond with the geographic poles of its axis. The north magnetic pole is presently located off the western coast of Bathurst Island, in the Canadian Northwest Territories. The south magnetic pole is presently situated at the edge of the Antarctic continent in Adélie Coast about 1930 km (about 1200 mi) northeast of Little America. The very interesting thing is that these can change and move around!
Probably the most amazing thing about eart however, is that it is able to maintain life. Due to the oxygen rich atmosphere, the abundance of water and many other chemicals and compounds, allow the earth to be a perfect place to harbour life. As of yet this is the only planet that is known to do so. What are your thoughts? Do you think there are other planets out there that support life? |

*Jessica thinks for a minute then raises her hand* I think that there is other planets with life out there somewhere. i mean, we have 1 planet in this galaxy with life on it, and there is proof that Mars could've supported life forms. so, who's to say that other galaxys dont have life. and there are so many videos with so called "U.F.O.s" i think that there's defidently life out there somewhere. *she smiled and put her hand down*

"Well I do think for sure that there are other planets out there that support life. Actually, I'm quite surprise that we have not yet discovered one of these planets. Perhaps in the future, with a more advanced technology, man will be able to go further and reach planets that support life. However, I don't think we will find aliens with a body similar to ours. It will most probably be very small cells, completely abnormal-looking creatures (at least to us) because of course they won't live in the exact same conditions as we do, superior beings or maybe we won't even be able to detect these extraterrestrials. We have a certain conception of what a living being shall look like, but what if we can't see them? I mean, nothing says that we'll be able to perceive these 'aliens', if you understand what I mean. We have not discovered everything about Universe,a nd it continues to surprise us..."
Evy scribbled down something in her notebook.
