Professor McAiken enters his classroom and with a wave of his wand lights all the candles and lamps in the room. He walks to front of the room and sets his notes on the desk. He moves around the room taking a short inventory to assure his supplies have arrived and are in place for today's lesson. From one of the jars on shelves he takes a hand full of needles and places them on his desk. Turning toward his chalkboard yet still several feet away he writes on the board using his wand.

He writes:

What is Transfiguration?
How does it different from other spells?
Practice lesson

Satisfied his room is ready, he checks his watch for the time and decides he has time for tea before class. Locking the door, he heads towards the Staff Lounge.

"Yes Ashlie, that is the one, so 5 points to Ravenclaw. Now I would for each to take a pin from my desk then returning to your seat to practice transforming it into a pillbox. I know for some of you this is just a review but a needed one. The incantation is convertere from the Latin. We know it better as convert but given many of our spells are hundreds of years old and Latin was the language of the educated of that day. You may begin."

Stepahanie walks up to Professer's desk and takes a pin then walks back to her desk and practices the fairly easy spell.

"Let me show you the wand and the incantation together as you return to your seats." Professor states. He places a pin on the student desk in front of him and with short downward motion of his wand, commands, "convertere" in a clear even voice. "Remember you must be thinking of the transfiguration at hand or you will end up with only a partial transfiguration. Think about what you want the pin to become." He explained to the class.

* goes to the Professor's desk and takes a pin then goes back and sits in her seat.

* pulls out her Ebony wand and waves it above the pin and says, "convertere". The pins wiggles around a little bit and then turns into a pillbox.

"Coolness. Got it on the first try."

Mia walked up to the desk, took a pin and returned to her seat. She practised the spell, after a couple times, she had done it right.

*Tara gets up, walks over to the desk, and takes a pin. She sits back down and lays the pin on her desk. She pulls the sleeves of her robes up, ready to start*

Convertere *Tara muttered, pointing her wand at the pin*

*concentrating harder, Kirstie performs the incantation once more and is pleased to see her pin change into a small pillbox*

Tina does what is told. "Converte." It turns into a perfect pin box with decorations just the way she liked.

"You must use a voice that commands but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to shout." McAiken comments as he moves between the rolls of desks watching the students. "Aim the wand tip at the pin, it isn't a ramdon motion. I see the older students aren't having to much trouble, good! I was concerned when I learned you didn't have this class last term. This means we'll move along nicely in our other lessons."

*Remembers what the professor had said and thought of what she wanted the pin to become. Consentrating, she muttered the spell again. The pin quivered and suddenly changed into a pillbox*

After three attemts stephanie got her pillbox the way she had imagined it pink with blue polka-dots.

*Stands up and gets a pin, with a sudden relization, she whispers to herself* My sister taught me this! *While putting a strand of her tomato red hair behind her ear, she places the pin on her desk carefully, takes out her wand, and while waving it says* Convertere! *Smiling, she watches her pin turn into a pillbox.* Professor, I think I did it...

"You can use the same incantation with a swish and flick motion of the wand to reverse the transfiguration," the professor explains when almost all the students had performed the spell successfully."

OOC: I think I'll call it a night and pick the lesson back up tomorrow. It is after 1 am here in the UK. See you tomorrow and thanks for being a great class to work with in my first lesson ever! You can continue to practice in the thread in you like. Again well done.
