Francis smiles as Prof McAiken walks by her. She then looks at her Professor very carefully, awaiting new instructions.

Hermy takes her wand into her hand. Concentrating hard on the incantation she say "convertere" and the pin is now a pill box. She flicks her wand back the other way and the pin is back. "WOW! That is brilliant."

"Conveterte", Beth whispers at the pin. Nothing happens. "Darn." she mutters.
"Converterte." she says again clearly and loudly. The pink begins to transform. She breathes a sigh of relief and takes notes.

Raven wrote down her notes quickly trying to understand the charm that was given. She looked at the board and at the professor as she surveyed the class and helped students. Raven finished her notes and looked at the pin that wasn't transfigurated yet.

She pulled out her wand whispered the incantation as she swished her wand down ward. The pin change instantly and looked over to her left as the first year was having a hard time.

Raven scooted over and whispered. "Hi, my name is Raven. If you need any help I can help you," she added still looking forward.

Beth smiles at Raven gratefully, "Yes, I could use some help." she says smiling, "I'm Beth, second year Hufflepuff."
Raven looks slighty suprised.
"I know I'm small." Beth giggles, "but I was here last year with Jill and Ashley and all the rest of them." she says gesturing towards her fellow Hufflepuffs.

"Anyway," she smiles, "am I doing this right? Conveterte."
The pink stays a pin.
"Darn. I did it before." Beth mutters angrily.

Am i too late? *looks round sheepishly*
*Hannah walks to a desk quickly and takes out parchment and quill and writes down all that has been said already then practices spells*

That should be 5 points from Ravenclaw, you don't announce you are late to my class, yet because this is one of the first lesson of the term I will issue you a verbal caution about it. Please refer to Rules and Guidelines for Transfiguration for futher details. I think you will find all professors will feel this way. If the classroom is still unlocked then you are not late and you can post like you have been here the whole lesson.

Professor McAiken approached Ashlie's desk and stated, "I didn't remove points from Ravenclaw. I issued a caution."

Nikki goes to the desk to grab a pin and then quietly finds a seat in the middle of the classroom. She copies the notes and then tries the spell.

"Conveterte"
The pin quivers and then eventually transfigures into a pill box.
"Wow, never thought I'd get it on my first try."

After taking a pin from the front desk, Birdy came back to her seat and set it on her desk and examined it. After watching the teacher and practicing the incantation under her breath, she raised her wand. "Conveterte" she mumbled. The pin made a deal of squirming and shaking, but Birdy kept eye contact. Finally, it shaped itself into a teal pillbox. Birdy untransfigured it, ready to try again.

Raven looked over at Ashlie and smiled.
"Hey Ashlie, everything is going to be ok. When we get back to the common room we will tell all the Ravenclaws about the rules and then this won't happen again," exclaimed Raven who managed to Transfigurate 5 pins and smiled as teh Professor looked at her progress.

*Gabby sat with her wand straight out pointing directly at the pin*

"Conveterte"

*Rolling over a few times the pin eventually gave way and turned into a pill box. She gave a few small claps of excitement and sat quietly after to wait for their next lesson.*

Pookah had been quietly taking notes so far; she got up from her seat at the very back of the classroom. By the time she got to Professor McAiken's desk, almost everyone had their own pin and were back at their seats.

She picked up a pin, walked back to her seat, pulled out her rosewood wand, and looked nervously at the pin.

She tugged at her only strand of hair that was long.

"Con-converterte!"

Nothing happend, she took a deep breath, trying to concentrate

"Converterte!"

Still nothing, for a second she looked like she was about to cry.

"CONVERTERTE!"

The pin exploded into a perfect pillbox, it had little mother-of-pearl flowers on the top.

"That's nice..." she whispered.
She changed her hand movement, and tried to focus.

"Converterte!"

The pillbox wobbled a bit, and then changed back into pin, which still had bits of mother-of-pearl glistening on it.

*Lily, just arriving back from the hospital wing, walks up to the proffesor and explains.* Sorry i'm lat proffesor, Malfoy decided to practice a jinx on me. Anyway, we're changing pins into pillboxes? Alright.
*grabs a pin and takes her seat, while trying to look for a familiar face, but sees none.* *Slightly dissapointed she places the pin on ehr desk and mutters* Converterte
Oops, my wand was pointed the wrong way, had it backwards, sorry Proffesor, didn't mean to hit you. *turns wand the right way and agian mutters the incantation* Ohh, look proffesor i did it *the pin turns into a beautiful pill box thats a lovely shade of forest green*

"um..thank you HPB.thank you Professor...i-i do know this theory...but, its not what i wanted to know...um..i wanted to know...how does Transfiguration actually work. the process seems..looks interesting. turning from a pin to a pillbox. how does the morphing process work? how does it change shape and appearance?" She didn't know how she could explain what she wanted. she waited for a reply, hoping she was clear enough...

Lizzy took a pin and went back to her seat, staring at it. she looked at everyone else getting theirs to turn easily, and mentally cursed her muggle roots.

There is no way I can do this!

"Converterte" she muttered.

The pin changed into a pillbox.

I need some more self esteem

*Katie shly and unsurely takes a pin. She walks quickly over to her seat and sets the pin infront of her. Biting her lip and breathing in deeply, she pulled back some loose strand of chest nut color hair behind her ears and raised her wand. She tapped the pin three times and shouted;*

"Converte!"

*The awaiting pin rolled across the table and with a pop the pillbox appeared. Katie beamed and clapped happily, picking it up satisfied and proud.*

*Cass was a bit happy to see the two girls from Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw she had met in the hallways earlier that day. They both seemed happy to have finally made it to class after their little wonderings through the halls trying to find the class room. Trying hard to remember their names, Cassandra finally managed to pull them out of her brain. *



The one from Hufflepuff is Katie and the one from Ravenclaw was called Lizzy she thought to herself. Yes, I’m sure that’s it! Cassandra was very proud that she had not only talked to girls from other houses, but was remembering their names so easily.

*walks in rather shyly and sits in a faraway seat away from everyone*

*takes out a bag of jellybeans and starts eating them leaving the orange and black one behind*

*looks around then takes wand out and a pin*

"ok lets try this"

"Convertere"

*the pin turned into a blue and black pillbox*

*sqeels silently to herself*

*kagome tries the spell again*

Sativa looks at her pin with a determined face

"Yes, Gryffin, you have a question?" Professor McAiken asks as he approaches her desk.

-Afton, who had been changing her pin, back and forth from pin to pillbox. over and over. each time her pillbox became a different colour-

"Convertere!!"

"I do understand your question Riiya, yet I am not sure anyone can explain exactly how our magical powers transfigure one thing into another. It is combination of rearranging the atoms of the object and the laws of nature at work. In the matter of mirco-seconds our magic is able to change the inherent nature on that object. If I could break down the process for you I would, but most of the spells we use today are hundreds of years old. Exactly how a wizard developed Switching Spells or Transfiguration magic not many understand today. Many times spells were found by trial and error just like a muggle medication is develop. A wizard put together a word or combinations of word with a wand movement while thinking about he or she wanted to occur. Some times it worked while other times it did not. It is a combination of wand movement, voice command and the very nature of natural world that performs the transfiguration. No camera would be able to photograph or film the wonder because it is so fast of a transformation." Professor McAiken responsed.

-the next time Afton did it, her pillbox had wiskers. Bewildered, Afton raised her hand to ask id she had done something wrong for her pillbox to have wiskers-

:: Rolls eyes. "Mine is working perfectly..." I say as I look over at Afton's disformed pillbox. ::

proffessor, could you please repeat your instructions. i seemed to have not understood them.

"i see. it was..rearranging atoms right?...do you think these atoms...start from scratch, or just shifts them into another form like..molding..."

Kali decides to practice the spell a bit more.

"Convertere," she says pointing her wand at the pin. Nothing happens.

"Hmmm," she says getting a bit frusterated.

"Convertere," she says again. The pin stalls a bit then it transfigures into a unmistakable pillobx.

"There that's better," she says with a smile.

-Puts her hand back down,. having realized her mistake. She had said 'contvertere' instead of 'Convertere'. She then went back to switching back in forth, making SURE she said it right...-

Riiya turns to Gryffin and shows him her notes:

Francis looks slightly annoyed at the person who decided to be late for class. Shrugging it off, she keeps on practicing. She was glad she had been practicing wand movements and reading about transfiguration all summer.

Trish places her pin on the tabe, after it falling a dozen times.
'I'm going to get it this time!' she thought to herself as she repeated the command in her head.

With a swift movement of her wand she said 'Convertere' in a clear voice.
Her pin had magically turned into a small yellow pillbox.
'Yay to me!'
'Better try it again, just to be sure' she thought to herself.

Riiya smiles. "you're welcome :) "

::takes a pin and gows back to her seat and places the pin on her table. and with a short downward motion of her wand, commands, convertere in a clear voice concentrating on the thing she wants it to turn into. the pin turns into a silver pillbox:: wow! cool! and my first time too!

"congrats :)"

*Kirstie continues practising the spell untill she has managed to produce a normal sized pillbox*

Eric stared at his matchbox for a moment before tapping his wand against it. The matchbox then turned into a pillbox.
"Finally!"

Looks over at erics work since she's sitting beside him anyway:: wow eric thats brilliant! good job!

"Thank you Riiya for helping, that will earned Hufflepuff 2 points I think," Professor McAiken states as he moves back to the front of the classroom. "I think we've practice our review object enough so it's time for your first prep assignment. I want you to reseach and find 8 synonyms for the word transfiguration or transigure. This part of the assignment is worth 1/2 point for each answer. If you include the Etymology for the word I will include another 1/2 point. That makes this assignment worth 8 points total. You have till Friday Oct 8, at 11:59 GMT to hand in the work to my listed E-mail account in my homework board. Class is now dismissed, enjoy this rest of your lessons, today. I'll stay behind for a bit to answer any question you might have or you may see me in my office at a later time."

Jill hastily scribbled down notes in a roll of parchment, then looked at her pin.
"Convertere!" She swiped her wand downwards, concentrating hard on a small, blue pillbox-
And got a pink one instead. Jill stared at it, slightly blushing.
"Last minute hasty thought?" Jill wondered in her mind - she did have to run off to her next class. She shrugged the thought off, and took a deep breath, imagining the pin she had taken off Professor McAiken's desk: where it had been, how the light gleamed off of it, a tiny speck of rust-
And swished flicked her wand, clearly stating 'Convertere!'
The pin turned perfectly back to normal. Pleased with the practice, Jill packed her things, replaced the pin back up by Professor's McAiken's desk, and headed off.

"Converterte." Beth said loudly. It worked! She tried again and it continued to work, finally! Beth grinned and tried and couple more times before packing up and leaving the classroom.

Francis smiles proudly and gets ready to go and do her homework. "Thank you Professor, it was a great class!" she smiles as she leaves the room.

*Cassandra gathered up her notes and other things before making her way out of the class room. Smiling over her shoulder she said goodbye to the Professor and headed off to her next class.*

Sativa finishes writing the homework down and gets up to go. *hmmm not due for a little while, think I'll wait on starting it.* she thinks

* Reign finishes up her homework and hands it in. Then walks smuggly out of the classroom.

- Laura finishes writing down the homework for the first assignment feeling pretty confident. But then goes off to find out how to do the etymology. She then leaves the classroom by herself because she doesn't know anybody yet. -

*turns pillbox back into a pin and returns it to the teachers desk, then quickly scribbles down her homework assignment to do later on in the common room, and puts everything away.*
"Bye proffesor, talk to you later..."

Riiya walks back to her seat and jots down the homework for this lesson using her trusty quill. she then looks at the class. everyone was writing it down as well. she smiles and begins to pack her things. she gets up and notes the example the professor gave. she smiled and says to herself, "i really needed that... :)" she swings her bag to her shoulders and walked towards the door. she turns to the Professor and Bows in respect. she clicked her heels and walks out.
