"If they eat meat then they might not need to do photosyntesis - a way or another I know dransuls to go fetch their food, mice mostly, using this ability to move... they could drink water like creatures and be provided of minerals though the things they hunt, as any creature, not plant, do, but for some reason this doesn't stop them from being able to do photosyntesis.

"A second theory is that maybe the dransuls can actually grown roots and take them in and out from the earth every time they feel the need to drink water, and in that moment, and only that moment, they would be able to perform photosyntesis.

"Or..." she continued, "maybe during spring and summer they won't move, they would be stucked in the earth like every other plant, and only on autum and winter get out to eat meat to survive.

"These two last theories think of the dransul as half carnivorous, half vegertarian according to the stations. Seeing as you mentioned, professor, that the dransuls only grows leaves on spring and until autum, that means only then they can use photosyntesis and then, yes, i would say the correct answer is one of the two last theories.... I think"

Serena raised her hand again. "They may be able to sustain themselves with the dewdrops left on their leaves overnight, with the addition of occassional rain. Leaves can absorb water as well as roots, and they obviously have leaves."

Sangeetha raised her hand.

'Like Shannon said, do they absorb water through their pores? And Professor, you hadnt answered my question. Do they have teeth to eat raw meat? And is this due to lack of chrorophyll that they are not green?'

Professor Phoenix was about to answer when an alarm went off from somewhere inside her robes. The colour drained from her features as she pushed her hand into a pocket and pulled out an antique-looking pocket watch dangling from a silver chain. Then her expression hardened.



"I am sorry, but we will have to end the lesson here. We will get back to Dransuls the next lesson. You shall all follow me back to the castle immediately."



Professor Phoenix remained silent while the students collected their things hastily and then returned to Hogwarts castle with her after locking the greenhouse doors securely.
