| | Empty Dungeon Classroom The dust covered desks and chairs leave much to be desired but, the room is perfect for potions study groups. Professor Airlia was very generous to have offered this place for the students to discuss homework and for older students to help the younger students out. |

| Lexy walks into the room and puts her bag over her chair, she pulls out her favorite quill and an extra bottle of ink. She retrieved her potions handbook from her bag and took a seat. She was ready to get started. |

Francis walks in, and puzzled by the whole concept of potions, she opens up her books. She looks over at Lexy and smiling, asks: "Did you.. had any problems?" Francis bites her lip as she waits, looking around the dungeon anxiously.

Nadia entered the classroom with a gloomy look.
"Hello," she said, bags hung over her eyes. "I missed the very first class 'cause of... well, something came up. I was wondering if somebody can fill me in on what you have been doing so I don't get too behind."
Sits down. "You did an Introduction to Potions, right? Pity I wasn't there, I'm a fourth year so I know a lot of basic on Love Potions... even brewed one by myself, but that was a mistake actually -- let's not talk about it."
Nadia's cheeks flushed, she waited for people to fill her in on the last Potions Class.
ooc: Arght!!! I came running to my PC hoping to come her on time, but I didn't get to, I missed the entire class!!! Blasted luck...

Addie enters the class in time to hear Nadia's request. Quickly, she fills her in on Love Potions, and the homework assignment to think of more ingredients and why we think they should be included.
"Actually, I don't remember much from last year and Potions is not my strong subject. So since you are a fourth year, maybe you could help me? Or how would you like to work on the homework together?" She asks.
Addie sets down her things and looks expectantly at Nadia, smiling.

ooc: I'm sorry I didn't saw your answer before, but I'll make as if you were still here.
"Oh, that would be great!" she said, seting her things. "Of course, I think I can help, I've some notes from last year, let me..... ah, here it is:
- Canary feathers => used as living and loving symbol, as opposed to raven feathers which are sumbolozing death - in this case, death of love.
- Frozen Ashwinders' eggs => both used to help fight feever and to cause the burning sensation in the Love Potions. Ashwinders are the burning snakes so they propies are explained at the very nature of the beast.
- Rose petals => while the dosage I'm not sure about, I know it was once mentioned during our anti-love potion debate.
Mmh, I don't remember anything else right now. I suspect that this is one of those potions that needs to be brewed over the full moon light. I might be wrong.
Think that helped?" ^__^

I don't have all my notes with me from last term, but maybe these will help.
QUOTE (from research notes)
"Raven Feathers:
~Ravens - symbols of darkness, ill news, evil, danger, and wisdom.
~note: Edgar Allen Poe's poem, 'The Raven' - considered to depict comprehensively the feelings of a bereaved lover - remaining on earth while his beloved had died.
~ also prob. reference to 'black', black emotions/moods.
~also maybe reference to the dead? Ravens, like vultures, associated with death- and warning of an approaching enemy."
Professor Airlia quote:
"I'd like to compliment you on your homework. Raven feathers are indeed symbolic of darkness and death. Raven feathers in this potion help to breed discontent. If we were brewing a love potion, we would be using canary feather instead.
My homework:
Why we would use Canary Feathers in a "Love Potion":
Canaries are known for having feathers that are light or vivid yellow; although their plumage can also be olive green or greenish yellow, tinged with brown. The light color of the feathers seem to represent life, a new beginning, happiness, joy, hope and love, just as the Raven feathers being black represent darkness and death. The Canary feathers could add to the potion the property to begin something new, like the feelings of love and even the joy that accompanies that love not already present.
Canaries are also known for the sweet songs that they sing. They can even be taught to sing a specific series of notes or a song and then teach these to their young. These attributes could also bring to the potion a 'sweetness of heart' and ability to learn new things as well.

Hi Serena, good to know you've joined us^^
Yes, now you mention it, there was quite some extensive work on canary feathers. Luckily you didn't miss most of your notes as I did (ooc: PC crash). I'm relying more in my memory actually.
*checks notes* OK, this was part of my answer about the canary feathers, though not necessary for our homework now: Quote: A canary has been symbol of love for centuries and going back to the first expeditions to Quote: America by Spain. Between its many myths, the most common are related to the song and cultural practice on said creatures. It is said that the Canary song is one to bring the emotional part of ourselves; there is a tug at the heartstring that brings out the romantic in all of us. The Gregorian chant of every major religious house in Spain was accompanied by the songs of the breeding birds -we are said- at the very first start of the canary-breeding practice. The custom of keeping songbirds and ornamental birds in captivity goes back at least as far as the ancient Roman, Egyptian, and Chinese cultures, and in Spain, according to the myth, it became fashionable for a wealthy lover to present a singing canary in a bejeweled golden cage to the object of his affection, but the magnificent cage was a mere trifling accessory when compared to the monetary value of the bird within. Thanks to Sebastian Vallelunga, author of The Magical World of Birds, we know various facts on these creatures. (...) Only the males sang, they alone were in demand cage-keeping, and all the females could be kept in Spain for breeding, ensuring that the monopoly would continue indefinitely. (...) (Germany) out of the adversity of the miner’s life of darkness and damp comes a breed of song canaries which are called edelroller or “noble roller” in Germany, in an effort to show the importance of this breed in the German mind. Here is, according to German roller breeders, a canary’s canary, one that has perfected the hollow rolling depths that a canary’s voice is capable of. There is even an operetta called Der Vogelhandler about the young Tyrolese and Harzer men who tramp off on romantic adventures to far flung regions with 200 small cages strapped to their backs, their home villages depending for survival on the extra income to be brought in by the sale of the rollers. The canaries express passion though their songs, though their colors. It symbolizes innocence and sweetness. Their songs, like with music in general, raise ourselves from the darkness of a life. Only the contact with these birds was enough for the Italian bird trappers, making them company. In short, ‘love’ is written all over these bird, the canary.
^__^ I think I got overly-emotional when I wrote this. Sebastian Vallelunga is a real bird-lover.
About the rose petals, I don't think I need to explain. Symbol of passion and love, have many metaphorisism (=P) because of the thorns -- as in 'love hurts'. Some times women are said to be like roses... but enough of that, that's for each of us to elaborate, to the point. Serena, I was mening to ask you, which was the flower used in the Anti-Lust potion, as opposed to the Rose? I can't find it anywhere in my notes.
Oh and by the way, do you remember any other ingredients? I can't find anything else... maybe lovage? Mmh, I heard it is poisonous but used in the right way, it could change nature into it's opposite.... *pondering*

Hey Pookah! *waves* Welcome in! Good you could make it^^
White flowers... that sounds nice. Do you know the name of a white flower? *ponders* Actually, that reminds me, roses can be red or white, like those given in wedding days so... both white and red roses might be used! It's a good guess, definitely.
Now, what else? Mmh... " The inventor of many love potions is Laverne de Montmorency", yes, you can find more info on her biography. I'm pretty sure Sacharissa Tugwood, the pioneer on beautifying potions, had also made some investigations on Love Potions, but just now I can't find it in my notes... Maybe I'm wrong, but it may depend of the level and nature of the Love Potion in question... I know there's several types of love potions, but only know three myself: - Aphrodisiac or Lust Potion: As the name says, strong psychical attraction. Sometimes if too strong wrongly directed to whatever feels at least a little attractive. - Love-Slaving Potion (also known as Imperius Potion): You follow your 'beloved' as a lost puppy, without any will upon your actions. It's a very love-sick relationship of one needing to do what the other person tells them or feeling as if they would die without the other. Need the blood or the person you fell in love with dropped inside it before drinking it.
- Love Potion #14 : Makes you feel something for the first person you see after drinking it. However it's a mild feeling compared to the others. You have your will intact, but your feelings misled, deceived into thinking those feelings are real. This love potion won't last much on the other hand.
Airlia said those definitions were correct, so you can copy them. In class last year we drank a mild love potion, the name I don't know. I suspect it was Love Potion #1. I also managed to brew a Love Potion myself, but I'm not too sure which was it.

Hello there, I was absent too, so the girls offered to fill me in. It seems they only discussed Love Potion ingredients, and the homework is about them too, so we are exchanging information. Up to now we have canary feathers (given by the professor), white and red rose petals, frozen ashwinder eggs, and some suggestions as brewed on the full moon, beautifying potions, white flowers in general... To tell you the truth I'm quite lost. I'll have to check in some other sources to find ingredients for Aphrodisiacs, those are the easier to find.
Join us if you want. Have any suggestions yourself?

*nods* Be my guest.
Well, speaking of Aphrodisiacs... I'm suspecting we should look into what each of the ingredients represent, for example: Canary Feathers, probably auditive pleasure, Roses, aroma and tact... Asswinder eggs might refer to tact also, as it burns. All of them are pleasant to the sight. In other words, finding the different things that cause, err, pleasant sensations on our receptive senses... we miss taste, any suggestions? Sweetness maybe?

Wow! Good recount, Pookah! Sugar, caramel and honey are great for sweetness. Chocolate and peach both symbol of Love... mmh, let's think of what tastes is love known for having... sour, I've heard... Oh, strawberries! MAny Aphrodisiacs have them, I'm sure *^^* What else...
Apple! Of course! The first romance between Adan and Eva, and forbidden fruit of passion. That's a good guess.
Any sours?

| Double Agent Stamps! Mrs. Weasley walks into the classroom and listens to the discussion going on. "My you'll have certainly come up with a lot of ingredients for love potions," she says," I don't know if you'll really need any of the ones I've found, but I'll list them just in case. Here are some of the ingredients I found which could be used to make a love potion. The information proceeding the names denote their magical properties. Magcal Creatures Bee: Love, Honey of Life, Fertility The bee would probably be crushed before being put in a potion. Pigeon: Love, Security of Home, Fertility, Archetypal Energies You would probably use the heart, blood, and/or feathers in a potion. Skunk: Sensuality, Respect, Self-Esteem, Reutation You would probably use the heart, blood and/or hair in a potion. Tiger: Passion, Power, Senuality You would also probably use the heart, blood, or hair in a potion. Magical Plants and Herbs Apples: Love, Healing, Garden Magic Use the blossoms and apple juice in love potions. A simple apple spell consists of cutting an apple in half and sharing it with your loved one. This ensures you will be happy together. Apricot: Love The juice is used in love spells and potions. The leaves and flowers can be added to love sachets, and the pits are carried to attract love. Bleeding Hearts (flower): Love Crush the flower. If the juice is red, your love has a heart full of love for you. But if it is white, he or she doesn't love you. When grown the plant brings love. Use the red juice in a love potion. Caper: Potency, Lust, Love A man who suffers from inpotency has but to eat some capers, and he will be cured. The caper is also used in lust and love formulae. Cherry: Love, Divination The cherry has long been used to stimulate or attract love. a beautiful Japanese spell to find love is to tie a single strand of your hair to a blossoming cherry tree. Coriander: Love, Health, Healing Add powdered seed to a warm wine to make an effective lust potion. Jasmine: Love Money, Prophetic Dreams Dried Jasmine is used in love potions. It will attract a spiritual (as opposed to a physical) love. Lavender: Love, Protection The scent of lavender particularly attracts men. Strawberries: Love, Lust Strawberries are served as a love food. Violets: Protection, Luck, Love Mixed with lavender, they are a powerful love stimulant and also arouse lust. Wormwood: Protection, Love Wormwood is used in love infussions probably because it was once made into an alcolholic beverage called absinthe. It is now outlawed, but wormwood is still use in love mixtures. The infussion is the origin of the potion so identified with Witches. It is a process of soaking herbs in hot water. I hope you find this information helpful.

Aw! Those are so sweet, Mrs Weasley! @_@ Pidgeons, never had guessed but that's a great suggestion! And I completely forgot about Violets! How silly "Roses and Red, Violets Blue"... I'm in the Moon, seriously. Thanks for offering so many info, Terry. As it is, we all are going ot have the most extensive and detailed works^^
Hi! *waves* Ardesco, we are just discussing the class, remembering what we did in previous years and new suggestions for igredients of Love Potions. That's what we did last class, and that's what the homework assigment is about. We should be looking into Aprhodisiacs, symbols of potions, traditional icons and objects that might be used as ingredients.
Speaking of which, Mercurio thought up of this list:
*Silver Tears: Reference to the Full Moon. Given by the first heart-ache of a youngster. Describes the tragic nature of Love.
*ForgetMeNot: Symbolic Flower of devotion. Love symbol. Beautiful shy blue flower.
*Lovage: (I'm pretty sure it's poisonous, but somehow the name makes me think of love. For real, this is a random guess. But it would be nice to think of Love as poisonous. The Belladona might fall into this category too, certainly 'belladona' sounds like 'bella' which means "beautiful" in Spanish.) Etymology.
*(Metodology) Heat the cauldron to its highest: To represent burning passion.
We could add to that sakura blossoms, which are the traditional love flowers in Japan. And, what about stones? I'm not too familiarizedwith them but I know each represent a feeling. Maybe the Ruby, as it's red, is the precious stone of Love. I'll have to make osme research to be sure...
(ooc: g2g to sleep, it's really late in here^^ Bye!)

*smiles* Hi there, miss_sweetheart. That's a nice recount. Never knew all of that symbolism - oh, wine! That's a good idea! *nods* Really romantical. And the recount fo sours is nice, but we need one both that is sour and symbolizes love. Ah, no matter, either way, welcome to our discussion.
By the way, people, when posting here I think we are of course sharing his information. You are free to take all of the ideas I displayed in here, in a selective way probably so not to drive Airlia crazy. I believe those posting are too intending to share their works (if not, please clarify).
I love this discussion^^ Not sending my homework too quickly gave me the opportunity to think and re-think my answers, plus the ideas people are giving as really creative!
Now, where was I? Ah, yes, I wanted to add this other ingredient: Rain Water - symbol of purity, they are named as the tears of the sky (refering to the tragical love), and sometimes as fairies. Speaking of which: Fairy powder & wings - highly significative symbolism of beauty, dreams and free-flying (Peter Pan anyone?)

OOC: I checked google and people actually do make love postions. All the ingredients I put are in at least one of them. People actually say that it works. I just think it's weird.
