*listens attentively to the Professor's lecture, then raises her hand again* So we have Healers for Doctors. What about counselors, psychiatrists, or psychologists? In the muggle world when people are depressed they go to these people. What do wizards do if they something's bothering them um, mentally or emotionally? |
Suddenly Pookah looked somewhat excited, and her hand shot up in the air. "Do Wizard Healers have the cure for diseases that muggle doctors don't have!?" Her expresion was rather desperate. |
*raises hand* "do healers still have to treat things like diseases and not just things to do with magic going wrong?" "Do they have allternatives to injections because i hate them!?" |
We do not have injections with a needle in the wizarding world, but in turn we have potions that we sometimes must drink that taste absolutely horrendous such as skelegrow. Now our next topic, Aurors and Police. These careers are very similar, in all these two careers are about keeping peace. Aurors track dangerous wizards while police trak down dangerous muggles. Both of our worlds are not perfect, can anyone name some dangerous wizards other than he-who-must-not-be-named? |
Grindewald. He was a dark wizard, Dumbledore defeated him. Herpo the Fool, also dark, but I don't know much about him. Salazar Slytherin is some times considered dark, but it depends of the interpretation of history. And all of the Dead Eaters followers of Voldemort falls into the cathegory of dark wizard, I believe: Nott, Malfoy, Lestrange, Jugson, Dolohov, Rookwood, Crabbe, MacNair, Avery, Mulciber... and so on. And Voldemortist... our today's Voldemort probably, and his follower. |
Igor Karkaroff was captured by Mad-Eye Moody after six months' of persuit. Wilks and Rosier were killed by Aurors. |
No list would be complete without Voldemortist. If memory serves me, he is still at large and a frequent uninvited guest to Hogwarts. |

Ok, Ministry of Magic and Muggle Government. Can anyone tell me some divisions of either? |
We have the Minister of Magic, while muggles have either kings, presidents or prime ministers, or something along those lines. We have the Wizengammot, while muggles have parliament or congress or something like that. |
::raises hand:: well for the ministry of magic the departments are: Departments Improper Use Of Magic Enforcement Of Magic Hogwarts Liaison Auror's Experimental Charms Misuse Of Muggle Artifacts Floo Regulation Disposal of Dangerous Creatures Magical Games and Sports International Magic Co-Orperation Goblin Liaison Department Of Mysteries Department Of Creature Finance Control Of Magical Creatures Transportation |
::raises hand:: also the american government is broken up into three branches. the executive, legislative and judicial |
*lays her head on one hand* Well, I think Genie covered it all... *frowns* I think I heard there are 7 departments, however, and it's missing the Department of Magical Security (though it might be Aurors) and the Desinformation Office. I agree with all the rest. I've just heard of The Department of Control and Regulation of Magical Creatures, about beasts. *raise hand* Professor, just ocurred to me... I am not sure I understand our own Power Divisions, the Ministry of Magic I mean. Would you say the Minister is like a muggle president or a muggle king? As we don't have power divitions... it looks like a monarchy, maybe? Shennigan does have a point though... *pondering* Mmh, I'm guessing the Wizengammot is like a muggle court? Like, the judicial power then? Mmh.... The confederation of Warlocks is the Legislative then, and the Minister the Executive.... the International Confederation of Wizards would be like the UN  ? Ah, I'm disgressing, I really don't know. |
Sangeetha raises her hand. 'Well, most of the occupations in the wizard world are similiar to the muggle world, only in the wizarding world it magical. Congress and Parliaments are the same as the Wizengamots. There are also Municipalities and this category also falls all into the Ministry but into different divisions. We dont actually have buses coming down the street and picking up our garbage.' She chuckles softly 'But normal, low class professions such as the conductors and drivers in the Knight Bus is same in the Muggle buses, we can say that the Wizarding World is very much like the Muggle World.' |
::genie smiles sheepishly:: err sorry nadia...i guess i got a little to carried away there. |
Raises her hand again: 'Muggle govermental departments have seperate divisions too, like Genie said. Each is different from the other. Like the Wizengamots court, in the muggle world there is one court that I have heard of and that is the Supreme Court. There is another court but I cant recall. But all I know these two courts take different actions on different cases accordint to how important and serious the case is.' |
Turns to Genie, "Uh? Oh, no, I wasn't complaining or anything I just felt there was not much too add. Besides I'm not even too sure how many Departments we have in the Ministry of Magic, or how similar is to the muggle goverments." "...That's exactly why I am asking now: muggles have different guvernamental orders, to which of them, then, does the MoM resemble the most? To which it is more alike, and so on. I'm curious." |
The departments for the Ministry of Magic are as follows: Department of International Cooperation Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office Goblin Liason Office Department of Regulation and Control of Magic Department of Magical Games and Sports Improper Use of Magic Office Commitee on Experimental Charms Accidental Magic Reversal Squad Department of Magical Transportation Department of Mysteries. In addition there are the International Conferation of Wizards and the International Confederation of Warlocks. If I remeber correctly most muggle governments are divided into a national government, a regional government- which covers a state or provence- and a local government- that usually includes a city and county government depending on what country you are talking about. |
Turns and looks at Nadia: 'Hmmm, Nadia, a good question but I think, yes, the MoM does represent a lot in the Muggle "type" governmental activities. Shall we have a look on the case that on 1993 when a Hippogriff named Buckbeak had to be exectued, the Minister of Magic had come to witness the execution, and such cases falls in the Committe for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures. And then again on 1995, when Harry Potter was expelled from school for using magic outside Hogwarts and in front of a Muggle, it was the Minister who had taken charge to judge the case. Convenient, eh?' She carresses her chin pensivly 'But there might be exceptions, of course.' |
Leen listens closely to the Professor. |
:: Ganymede tries to follow but become very bored with it all. She heaves a great sigh and sings a song in her head. When that becomes old she begins to count the stone tiles on the floor.... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7... etc. :: |
Stephanie writes down notes and thinks about what she will do after Hogwarts. |
"Exactly!" she told Sangeetha. "That sounds like Monarchy to me. I have never seen another Muggle type of governation which would have the divitions of power so... blurry. The Ministry shouldn't be having such power over the different sections of the goverment to me." *frowns* "Uh, also, I think we forgot about the Warlock's Council. I don't know how it would work if compared to Muggle goverments. I know there's Chief that, I believe, works as Legislative-power major-warlock to my view... A mix between the executive and judicial power maybe? "I change my mind. The Executive power must be the Department of Magical Law Enforcement which should include the Auror's (though this last could be part of the Judicial power). "We need your orientation, professor." |
:: Ganymede tries to avert her attention back to class, "Professor, Do we elect the Minister of Magic?" She asks hoping it wasn't already answered earlier. :: |
Nods at Nadia, understandingly. 'Well, one thing I do not get is that why the Minister is always having power in different departments. Surely then there is no use in having executives and representatives in each department if the Minister always put his foot into the situation.' Ponders about what the Warlocks' Council and what Nadia said. 'Enlighten me. Your guess is as good as mine. I dont know if the Auror's is part of the Judicial Power from the muggle view. But like you do, I as well need the Professor's consultation.' |
