Francis raises her hand once more. "Professor.. World War I, or the Great War.. Took place from 1914 to 1918. It was the largest war the world had seen at that time. It resulted in may peace treaties as well as the creation of the League of Nations. It is calculated that about 10 million people died and 20 million people were wounded." |
Very good groovychick, 5 points to hufflepuff. World War 1 brought many changes. When the mean left women took over working in factories and began to gain more independance. Fashion changed radically too. Gone were the glamourous full skirts and women began to gain more choice in their dress. Skirts became narrow as mens pants grew. Some skirts were so tight at the bottom the woman could barely move. Men's pants at the bottom grew to 22", a dandy cuff. Men also often carried a cane. Shoes became very important at this time as they became more visible. The first "sneaker" was developed in 1917, something still around today, its called Keds. |
Francis quickly writes down what Prof Evans just said. Smiling at Shannon, she whispers in an encouraging tone: "You were very close! We'll get more points for Ravenclaw." |

*Imogen and her sister, Cleo, copy down the notes and what the teacher is saying* "I'm sorry for getting you into trouble" Cleo whispered. Imogen looks at her twin and whispers, "I just hope the teacher hasn't noticed us. |
*Raises Hand* Professor, wasn't their a law at this time saying that if the clothes did not reach the ankle, the women could be arrested for "indecient exposure"? |
*nod at what the professor was saying and write down notes* |
Gina tries to copy down the notes as fast as she can without being scruffy, and resists the urge to doodle a corset or a billowing skirt on the sides of her parchment. Dipping her quill quickly in the ink, she drips a little blob onto her page. "Gah..." Muttering quietly, she pulls out a tissue from her sleeve and pats the stain before catching up with the rest. |
~Mia takes down some notes, not very neat since she is basically the only one who can read her writing anyway. She thought about how uncomfortable a corset must have been~ "Professer? Did some womean start wearing pants while they were in the factory, or was that later still?" |

Francis raises her hand as well. "Professor.. I heard that during WWII women started working full day jobs in male positions. Since what you are describing of WWI parallels what happened during WWII.. I was wondering, was fashion impacted in the same way by WWII?" |
Stephanie walks into the half filled classroom and takes a seat in the first row amd smiles at the professer while taking out her quill. |
Then starts taking notes as fast as she can without be sloppy |
Ashlie leans back in her chair, tiny notes jotted down on her paper. She already knew this information, so it wasn't so important to her. |
