Madame Noire is hovering about the room as the first students enter. She is hanging up something that looks like flashy colourful Christmas lights on the ceiling.
"Hello there! Go on, take a seat, and we'll begin in just a moment." |

Didymus looked at her 10 1/4", Yew wand with a single Raven feather as its core. The shopkeeper at the old wand shop in France hadn't told her that Yew symbolized death and sorrow. The Ravenclaw shrugged her shoulders, "If it was a bad thing I'm sure he would have said something," she whispered to herself. After quickly writing down notes about the different kinds of woods, she picked up her wand and examined it closer, polishing it once or twice with her robes.

He quickly writes down that holly means foresight, as well as being one of the most protective woods. *That will come in handy* he thought.

Alicia writes down the notes one the different types of wand swood and there meanings. When she is finished she looks at her wand in a strange way and examining it carefully. The strange look remains on her face for a few minutes while she continues to stare at her wand. She can't, for the life of her, figure out Why this wand chose her and not someone who fit it better. These characteristics didnt describe her at all, did they? she shakes her head and continues writing notes.

*Cass raises her hand before asking the Professor a question.*
"Professor, when I got my wand at Ollivanders" she started. "He said that Mahogany was also very good for Transfiguration as well as a protective wood. Is that right?"

Gets up from her seat sighing,
"I thought you wouldn't notice me," she says jokingly, "now I'll have to sit with you!" she moaned sarcastically.
Moves her bag and places her wand on the desk next to Sparkle, saying high to Megan, then copied out some notes about her wand.

| Mint thinks to her self 'wow there are more types of wand woods the i ever imagined.' She writes down what Madam Noire said about oak Quote:
Oak (leaves) = Bravery
Oak (tree) = Hospitality, potency
Oak (White) = Independence
Oak (Live) = Liberty Mint thinks to her self again 'all of that seems to be true. It is a bit freaky'.

"Professor," she asked. "And what does the number of inches have any relation to us as wizards and witches? Could the leght symbolize the grade of power? Or something else? Does the number means something like in Numerology?" (/*pss*/ you didn't respond my other questions...)

Francis pays attention and takes notes. Ignoring the conversation on the background. She waits to see if the Professor answers the question on the length of the wand. She's quite curious about that herself.

"Oh, pradon me Nadia, I didn't hear you over this babble," Madame Noire says, casting a meaningful look at the chattering students. "Anyway. No, I don't really think it means that. Well - no one knows, really. But it is usually so that the wand would simply not work without the core. They work with each other. Which, in a way, applies to the human body also: neither the soul nor body would work probably without eachother. So perhaps in a way you're correct! Hmm. Interesting. Take 5 points for this new insightful idea."
Madame Noire draws a deep breath and sweeps some invisible dust from her poofy white strawberry dress.
"Wand length," she begins, starts pacing through the rows of desks and tapping her nose on the way. "Many of you are asking about that. It is not as important as the core or wood used. But it is of certain meaning, yes. One key factor in determining the wand length is, quite simply, the wizard's own height. So, in a way, the wand core might be one's soul, the wood one's mind and the length one's body. It would look quite strange for a small, petite witch to have a wand that's 15 inches in length. Meanwhile taller people tend to have longer wands. I don't know the exact way to calculate a person's wand length from their own height - mainly because there really isn't one. The only way to count it, really, is to assume that short people have short wands and tall people have long wands. But! This is not all. A wand, in a way, already knows how you're life will go. However you were created - your life was set before you the second you were born. There are basically two ways to live your life: the good or bad way. The only way you can alter your future is to choose which way you want to go. So actually, you sort of have two lives to choose from. At least, this is what I have been taught to believe. Your Divination professor may disagree. Ah, well. Use your wand well, and good things will come to you. But if you use it for Dark things, you will get the, well, other results. A way to take a peek at what lies in store for you, no matter what path you choose, is to view your wand through Tarot cards.
The inches are represented by Major Arcana cards. The half- or quarter-inches are represented by the Minor Arcana.
On Page 20 you will see the most common wandlengths, ranging from 6 inches (The Lovers) to 18 inches (The Moon). First are the inches (really the number of the Major Arcana card). Following that are the good and bad results of the wand; the good are first, and the bad are separated by two slashes (//). Quote:
6 inches: The Lovers. Strong emotions, power of the heart and attraction, desire, deep emotional nature. // Failure, loss.
7 inches: The Chariot. Future, victory, conquest, travel, movement. // Arrogance, bad temper.
8 inches: Strength. Courage, determination, honour, reliability, honesty, purpose, physical strength, triumph. // Cowardice, giving in.
9 inches: The Hermit. Re-evaluation, willingness to remedy, caution, patience, experience. // Impatience, loneliness, obstinacy.
10 inches: The Wheel of Fortune. Luck, chances, "I rule". // Vanity, bad luck
11 inches: Justice. Mercy, good judgement, unity, balance, harmony. // Injustice, bad judgement, misguided advice.
12 inches: The Hanged Man. Pleasure, reversal of the expected, self-sacrifice, dreams, inspiration, mysticism, patience. // Illness, selfishness, manipulation.
13 inches: Death. Transformation. // Loss
14 inches: Temperance. Control, harmony, peace, self-control, adaptability, imagination. // Quarrels, corruption, strife.
15 inches: The Devil. Freedom, light, hope, charity, power. // Greed, tyranny, lust, discontent, depression.
16 inches: The Tower. Safety, freedom, strength. // Rebellious nature, shallowness, narrow view of the world.
17 inches: The Star. Insight, understanding, hope, health. // Tension, pessimism, obstinacy, lack of opportunity.
18 inches: The Moon. Intuition, endurance. // Lies, deceit, risks.
And here are the numbers for the quarter, one half of three-quarter inch lengths. They have four different outcome possibilities, which are represented by the four different Suits in the Minor Arcana: The Suit of Wands, The Suit of Cups, The Suit of Swords and The Suit of Pentacles. Quote:
1 quarter= enterprise, love, force, foundation
2 quarters (one half)= partnership, commitment, balance, juggling
3 quarters= opportunity, celebrations, heartache, skill
So basically, your wand length partly sets your future. It also describes your personality somewhat, but not as much as the core and wood used."
