The legendary portable swamp created by Fred and George Weasley was once large enough to consume the entire fifth-floor corridor. Needless to say, this greatly irritated the notorious Dolores Umbridge when there were no instructions on how to remove it and the then teachers didn't seem to mind that it was there. Today a small section of the swamp remains, roped off in tribute of the redheaded twins' historic act of protest.

When you are getting close to this reserved section of the corridor, you will know without question. The remaining swamp still smells like an authentic swamp, look like an authentic swamp, bubbles like an authentic swamp, and will indeed suck you in if you cross over the rope and step in it. Avoid the Weasley swamp with care is the best advice you should heed while on the fifth floor, especially if you're running late to class. While it must have been an impressive and humorous sight back in the mid-90's, just praise Merlin that you don't have to make your way across today.

"Tiff, please I promise it's a shortcut so we can get to history class in time." Ariadne called over her shoulder to her sister Tiffany as they sprinted into the fifth floor corridor side by side. She did though come to a crashing halt as the smell of something awful reached her nose.

Wrinkling her nose in disgust Ariadne asked "What's that smell? It smells awful." Lifting her hand up to cover her nose even though it didn't make the smell less prominent she asked her sister. "Have you read Johnny's latest letter yet?"

She glanced backwards at the corridor they've come from, as her sister prodded her with a question. "Which one was this? The one that he misses us ... or the one that he misses us?"

I didn't know that we had made a wrong turn, and ended up in the headmasters very hostile bushes before we were attacked. I'm still sorry, all right?" She totally blamed Tiff for neither of them being the best at orientating yet in this very big school. Their parents weren't exactly thrilled about their little adventures, but Ariadne knew they only wanted them to be safe and secure.

Eyeing the very smelly swamp in front of them Ariadne ignored the smell as she grabbed onto Tiff's right hand, and started tugging her sister towards it. "Come Tiff. I know it smells. Can't we see if it's like the swamp we have at home?" Thinking about Johnny made a hint of sadness cross over her face before it was gone, and Ariadne smiled "Either of them. I think he is crushing on someone too." Yes, Jojo had dropped some not so subtle hints.

Tiffany frowned, wrinkling her forehead at her sister. "Yea exactly. I don't fancy having to come get rescued from an indoor swamp. Who knows what sorts of beasts lay underneath those murky waters." Was that even possible, who knew? But somehow she had become more sensible and cautious. "You know though i could never be fully mad at you," she reached out to give her sister's hand a squeeze. "Besides how else are we meant to learn our way around. We just need to be careful, yea?"

"I'd rather not. Can we go to the gardens instead? Hang out in the greenhouses?" She tilted her head curiously at Ariadne. "Is he? I don't think i got that update." Maybe Johnny had told Ari something he'd left out of her own letter.

Shaking her head Ariadne gave up after a very long glance at the swamps murky water "All right, I hear you Tiff. We shall not investigate what creatures that does or does not live in the swamp but you can admit it's tempting right? If we don't try to cross the swamp then how are we going to make it to history class in time?" Ariadne was clueless because she was totally the badder of the duo at navigating anywhere.

Squeezing Tiff's hand back said with a smile. "We've switched roles. Now you're the sensible, and responsible and I'm the one who wants to take the risks." Weird. Was it because Johnny wasn't with them that things had shifted?

"Sure, careful sounds good," Ari admitted. "But gardens or greenhouses? Do you want to skip class Tiff? You know mum and dad would hear about that." And they would probably both get detention from their heads of houses.

"I don't know if Johnny exactly is crushing, but he does mention a girl quite a lot in his letters haven't you noticed?" Or was Ari just reading too much into Johnny's written words because he wasn't there with them?

"Well I for one, am not walking through the swamp," she wrinkled her nose in disgust. "I'm pretty sure to get to history class we just turn back around the way we came." Besides if they walked through the swamp, they'd need to get to their dorms to change their robes, as there was no way she could show up to class smelling of swamp water.

"Who said anything about being responsible? Besides you're the one willing to sacrifice our clothes to get to class on time. I'd much rather be tardy and keep our clothes intact and dry."

Yea she definitely hadn't noticed. Was it wrong of her to be focused on trying to fit in? In was bad enough the sorting separated her from her sister here, but then also trying to make friends with those who'd been in the same dorm the last two years together. Even though she was familiar with some from St Woboldo's two years apart felt like eternity. And in some regards it was, she was different. They were different. "You mean his friend that he took connection in first year in his house? They've been inseparable since their sorting really. It's nothing new." She shrugged it off.

Ariadne could be responsible, and often was since she too had learned a few things in their two years of schooling at Beauxbatons. She understood Tiff's reluctance to walking in swamp water since it'd take forever to get the smell out off their clothes, and not to mention it'd get looks from the house elves. Wrinkling her nose in contemplation like she often did Ari tossed a look over her right shoulder, back the way they had come. "Are you sure that's the right way to class? I don't want to end up stuck in that famous ghost's loo." Moaning Myrtle she had read and heard about. Ariadne wouldn't be keen on spending time with a wailing, and sad ghost if she could help it.

Grinning suddenly Ari pointed out, "Mum and dad would make big eyes if they heard you right now Tiff. 'I'd rather be tardy to class and keep my clothes clean and intact' than walk in swamp water. They'd be proud." Or at least that was what she thought. One could never know with how parents would react.

Smiling she nodded along. "Sureeeeeee. We can go to the greenhouses to bother Professor hot stuff for remedial herbology lessons. Ari doubted they'd be believed though since Ari had got top marks on the first test.

Back to the topic of Johnny she shrugged at Tiff's statement. "Really? But I thought they were just friends, and nothing romantic. What's her name anyway?" Ari couldn't remember, besides she was like her sister doing her best to try and fit in and make friends in her house and year at their new school so some of Johnny's words didn't always register to memory.

She chuckled at Ari's contemplation and hesitation on her decision. "I don't think we have much a choice but to come back the way we came. Besides, Myrtle is better than smelling like swamp water." Whenever did Tiffany become so vain, who knew? Maybe it was something of becoming a teenager? Growing up? She really wasn't raised to be as such, considering how often she'd scraped her knees and muddied herself up before they started boarding school. It had to be the French.

She stuck her tongue out. "And you wouldn't dare tell them what I said, pinky promise?" Although their mum being a seer, probably could see right through them anyway. Not that seer meant legilmens. Although sometimes the way their mum just knew things, maybe she mastered legilmency too. Was a mother's sense the same thing as legilmency?

Tiffany shrugged again about Johnny. "Did he mention a name? I feel like between names of kids we're meeting here, I keep mixing up the names in my brain. But I feel like it was something exotic like Sargento? Samosa?" Were those even real names? Possibly. Or she was just hungry.

Tiffany shook her head. "I haven't met her but from what I've read she just sounds lonely. I mean can you blame her? She was murdered when she was only slightly older than us... Her whole future was robbed." she sighed, wondering if Ariadne had read any of the Hogwarts History. Sometimes she wondered if maybe she'd have been more sorted for Ravenclaw with how logical she was. "Professor Burbage is lovely. I like her. Not sure how I feel about Astronomy, but at least the professor is nice. The Friar seems so happy all the time. Unlike the Baron, I saw him once and well... he's just resentful. How can one be resentful as a ghost, who knew, but gonna try to steer clear of him, you're so lucky." She sighed wistfully.

She reached her pinky out to her sister, shaking her head in amusement when Ari brought up their mum's ability. "True. I'd say we'll have to study occulmency but I don't think it matters much against seers?" They were different skills.

She gigglesnorted at the name mixup. "I mean if you're gonna mix two professors up, I suppose those are the ones to do so. Better than mixing up Winterbottom," but seeing how he was the oldest man on staff it'd be difficult to mix him up with any. Khanna and Feirgrund at least were close the same age. She raised an eyebrow at Ari, "I suppose you do want to skive off History class then, after all. Suppose skipping class is better than being tardy."
