 Welcome to the Slytherin Common Room!
When you first enter the room, it may take a moment for your eyes to adjust to the dim, green-tinted room. The stony walls are unusually tall for being in a dungeon. Green-hued lamps hover around the perimeter of the room. It seems a bit cold, dull, and damp, but the closer you stand next to the large fireplaces, the warmer you will get. Above the fireplaces are carvings in stone of large snake heads, so you never forget which House you belong to. Additional snake-like carvings slither their way around the fireplaces and along the walls of the room.
Leather couches and armchairs surround the different gathering areas that are accompanied by a fireplace. Various dark wooden tables with matching wooden chairs are set up around the common room as well, providing plenty of space to do your homework, read, study, or plot your next prank.
The windows, the few that exist, seem strangely dim. With a quick glance, you may think they're just insanely dirty. But every once in a while, you might see a fish flash by... or a kelpie... or perhaps a tentacle from the Giant Squid. That's right - you may be in the dungeons, but you share the underground with the creatures of the Black Lake, too.
Make yourself at home. You may want to bring a blanket.

Draping one of his blankets around his shoulders from home, Drake draaaagged himself down the stairs from the dormitory to curl up into one of the armchairs around the wooden tables. He normally migrated closer to the windows, but considering that was such a popular spot he decided to avoid it for the moment. Once the boy had settled into his new seat, he glanced at some of the miscellaneous bookshelves, debating if there was something he wanted to pull down to flip through.
That was... a hard no though, as a reader he was not. So instead, the boy focused on the fireplace and looking at each of the carved snakeheads. Had anyone named them yet? He didn't think so - so he took it as his task, which he began. "Hmm... I'll call you... Roscoe." What made a name a good snake name anyways?

Pheebs Calypso was never going to get out of bed if she didn't get up now, and she'd wasted half of her Saturday already, so she got up. Still dressed in her pjs (but with no blanket cape, for fear of being made fun of), Phoebe had her favorite book under one arm and a bag of snacks in the other. She plopped down in a chair next to Drake, and set her things on the side table. She sort of wished it was a couch so that she could lean on him while reading her book, but it was not a couch at all and Phoebe had already made herself semi-cozy. But now she wanted a blanket to warm herself under (and hide from other kids if necessary). "Roscoe?" she asked curiously. Who was her friend talking to? Phoebe didn't know any Roscoes. She looked around, still not seeing anyone. | |

Sure, some might say they were for homework or studying or uh... anything probably more 'useful', but Drake would always support rest and rejuvenation. Which was probably a good explanation for some of his grades, despite his friends and sister's best efforts to keep him focused. Sensing the joined presence, Drake turned his head to beam brightly at Phoebe (who he would not have judged for a blanket cape) and he gave a small wave her direction. "Hi Pheebs! What're you reading?" He noticed the book in her hand, and since it was her - his first guess was something of the plant variety.
As for the question? Drake's attention turned back to the statues and he pointed at one of the random carved snakes (which was not at ALL the earlier one he had coined Roscoe). "I'm naming the snakes. That one is Roscoe. What do you think good snake names are? Only things I could think of are verbs and verbs don't seem like they'd be good names."
