Off to the left of the common room you'll find two labeled doors - one with "BOYS" written on it and the other with "GIRLS". Once you enter the door, you'll find a long hallway with seven individual doors, each labeled with the appropriate year - first through seventh. Each room rotates along with the years, so get comfortable with your surroundings - you'll be spending all seven terms there!

Each room has individual beds for each student, along with a spot for their trunks, a nightstand for their personal items, and their own privacy curtain. Each bed is spaced evenly apart from all the other ones - not too close, but not so far that you feel separated from your peers.

The girls' dorm was quiet, which was exactly why Gilly had decided to return at an odd time of the day. She was really craving a few moments of quiet, just her and a book, with a minimal chance of being interrupted. The library and study hall had been considered, but there was something about her dorm room that was appealing this afternoon. Perhaps it was how she found it cozy and the likelihood of dormmates bursting in was slim around this time.

It didn't take long to kick off her shoes and crawl onto the mattress of her four-poster. Her attention then shifted over to her nightstand, her eyes taking in the various titles of books that were stacked on top of each other. Numerology and Grammatica was today's lucky book of choice.

Within a matter of moments, words on the page were filling her brain and the dormitory around her disappeared.

Bryony was still wet after that charms lesson but now it was thankful due to having taken a nice warm shower so it was only her hair that was damp. Being in clean dry clothes should've helped brighten her mood and if that didn't do anything than the bag of Fizzing Whizzbees she had gotten from blasting open that box AFTER falling into the duck pond should've done something. Sweets always made her happy!

Except now. Oh, how she had struggled to accomplish the task and all on her own. Yep, she hadn't forgotten about that. The snakette was still grumbling about it under her breath as she walked into the dorm room and promptly flopped down onto her bed. It was only after she was laying there for several moments did she notice she wasn't alone. Oops.

The chapter continued on, each word highlighting how numerical values and the grammatical structure went hand-in-hand. Whether it was a person's name, a spell incantation, or even a potion, the syllables, rhythms, and measurements had much to reveal. While she expected words and letters to be of significance in Arithmancy, she found herself intrigued with how numerology intertwined with potion making. But it was all adding up.

Her focus from the words on the page momentarily wavered when she heard someone come in. Quiet as a mouse, Gilly remained where she was, still as ever. She carried on with her reading, certain whoever it was would be leaving soon and that she probably wouldn't be noticed if she didn't draw any attention to herself.

But the sound of grumbling and the flop on one of the beds removed her from the book again. Gazing around to see who the culprit was, her eyes fell upon Bryony. She blinked a few times, wondering if she should say anything (considering the information she was privy to and what she had observed as of late) or return to what she had been doing.

"Hey," she managed to say quietly.

Bry was a people person. Normally. She was also typically loud. Right now she was feeling neither of those things but this was their shared dorm, it wasn't like she could tell Gilly to leave. Not that she was rude enough to do something like that anyhow. Could she get lucky and nothing would be said and she could lay here in silence.. occasionally grumbling underneath her breath to herself?

Nope, today wasn't at all her day. The quiet 'hello' did reach her ears. Lifting her hand up she gave a very half-hearted finger wiggle wave in Gilly's direction. Bry had nothing at all against her fellow Slytherin and dorm mate, the girl was quite nice and they got along fairly well.

Gilly watched Bryony's half-hearted wave with a sense of quiet contemplation. The two had always gotten along well enough, despite their different personalities. Gilly, often quiet and reserved, enjoyed her moments of solitude, while Bryony was usually more outgoing and energetic. Today, however, the behaviour of her fellow third-year wasn't loud, which just happened to be wordlessly screaming out at her.

She turned her gaze back to her book, though her thoughts were now split between the fascinating numerology theories and her dormmate's uncharacteristic demeanour. The idea of ignoring Bryony and continuing her reading was tempting, but it felt wrong to ignore Bryony's distress completely.

Closing her book softly, Gilly shifted on her bed to face the blonde more directly. "Everything okay?" she asked gently, her voice barely above a whisper. She hoped that her quiet tone would make it clear that she wasn't trying to intrude, just offering a listening ear if needed.

Being left to her own devices wouldn't have bothered Bryony in the slightest. At least not in that moment. What she didn't need was to be thinking anymore crazy thoughts. This was how it has been recently. See something and spin it into something else entirely. Speak with someone about how she felt and take everything they said to heart and overthink it all. She was the cause of her own destruction. Kinda.

The third year hadn't even realized that Gilly has gone back to her reading of that she was torn between speaking with Bry or not. Bryony was so lost in her own thoughts. At some point she had pushed the blankets down on her bed and then tugged them all the way back up again over her head. So how it was that she had even heard the other Slytherin's whisper, was a feat all in its own! It took her a minute or so to reply with a shake of her head, the blanket still up over it. "Everything's terrible..." Nothing had been right for awhile now.

Gilly hesitated, hearing the muffled response from beneath the blankets. She was not one to pry, but Bryony's tone held a depth of despair that was hard to ignore. This was a stark contrast to the usual Bryony she knew. Everything's terrible... The words lingered in the quiet dorm room.

The silence that followed was thick with tension, the kind that made Gilly's heart beat a little faster in her chest. She wasn't used to this—comforting others, being the shoulder to lean on. But she was willing to try.

"Terrible?" she repeated as she carefully placed the book on her nightstand and scooted to the edge of her bed. She moved slowly, not wanting to startle Bryony. Despite her natural inclination towards solitude, she knew that sometimes a small gesture of concern could make a big difference. "Do you want to talk about it?"

Terrible.

As in nothing to be happy, giggly or smiley about. Nothing good was happening to her lately, everything kept getting worse and worse. Did it matter that a portion of it was her fault? Not right now it didn't. She had every right to lay here and wallow in her own sadness. It was so new to her that it was extremely exhausting.

With the blanket up over her head still, Bry didn't realize Gilly had moved any closer until she had heard her speak again. Talk about it? She had tried that before and it hadn't really helped much. Everyone's helpful point of views only gave her even more to think about. Plus how could she talk to Gilly about Ary things when those things included Gilly's brother Drake? What if everything she tried to say came out wrong like it always did?

"It's probably nothing you'd want to hear about.."

Her book lay forgotten on the nightstand, replaced by the heavy presence of Bryony's distress. The air in the dorm felt thicker somehow, as if filled with the weight of unsaid words and unresolved feelings. Gilly wasn't sure how to proceed, especially after being told that whatever was wrong was something that she probably didn't want to hear. Did this have to do with what she suspected?

"Maybe," she began softly, her voice a gentle murmur. Her eyes wandered back to her book for a moment, considering a return to the theories of numerology and grammatical structures. Gilly knew that she was out of her depth—she was better with books than with people. The silence stretched out as she watched Bryony's covered form, but the curly-haired brunette shifted on her bed, getting no more closer to the book on her nightstand.

Bryony's pain was palpable, and she couldn't just ignore it. "But you won't know unless you try. Sometimes, talking helps. Even if it's to get the thoughts out of your head. You don't have to go through this alone if you don't want to." Her words were careful, measured, trying to convey understanding and patience.

See, this is where things got iffy. A part of Bry did want to talk to someone else about it all, explain what she was feeling and have someone help her analyze it all and tell her she wasn't crazy that she was correct in her feelings. To be told it was okay to feel the way that she was and it was okay to avoid her very besties friend and the other person causing her trouble. The other side of her wanted to close herself off from everything and hope it all went away on it's own. That Aryan would come to reason and see that it was meant to be only her and that was that. She was so torn in feelings.

The small blonde knew though that despite all of her own troubled feelings, Gilly wasn't much of a talker. So the simple fact that her friend was offering some help, some comfort where and when it was needed was quite big for the other girl. It wouldn't be right or very Bryony-like at all to push her away now when Gilly was obviously trying very hard to be here for Bry.

The blanket was hesitantly pulled down off her head and she peered with big sad eyes over at her dorm mate. "They went off and worked on the charms lessons together like I wasn't even there. He likes him more than me.. I knew he'd replace me.. told him he would..." She spoke softly and gave no names but she honestly didn't think she had to.

As Bryony revealed her inner turmoil, she listened intently. The emotions behind Bryony's words were raw and painful, which was more than clear the moment the blanket was pulled down and eye contact was made. While Gilly couldn't put herself fully in the girl's shoes, she could acknowledge that this was taking quite a toll.

It was no longer hard to guess who 'they' might be, but she didn't press for details.

"That sounds—" She shifted on her bed again, trying to find the right words. "—really tough." She understood that friendships could be complex and that being sidelined could hurt. She could only imagine having to deal with that all at once would be a lot for one person to handle. "I'm sorry you're feeling this way."

Her own thoughts for Bryony, for Aryan, for her brother Drake swirled about in her mind. A moment of silence passed before she spoke again. "Do you think talking to him might help? Both of them even? Sometimes, people don't realize the impact of their actions unless it's brought to their attention. And I'm sure they'll understand because they care about you."

Nod nod. This was all Bryony really could do right now. It was that or cry and she was sure Gilly wouldn't take too well to that. Normally she could handle the guys working together without but now, after she knew what she knew, well... it felt exactly like she was being replaced. As if a choice had already been made and it was all her fault for not making herself much more clearer all these years. Not that she possibly could've done that without making Ary hate her in the process.

The tiniest of sighs slipped past her lips as she shook her head, damp blonde hair clinging to her face and having to be pushed aside. "He knows. He always knows cause he knows me best." Better than even she knew herself most times. And he being Ary obviously. As for Drake, she wasn't sure she was ready to speak with him just yet again. "He knows how I feel about him." Everybody knew. "It just isn't fair." Nothing was fair. Why hadn't anyone told her third year was going to be this tough?

The complexity of emotions Bryony was experiencing weighed heavily in the air between them. Gilly could sense the turmoil and the frustration in her friend's voice, though she honestly could not put herself in the other's shoes. She could not say she felt like she had ever been replaced. Seeing the blonde like this was only solidifying her own personal opinions about relationships and navigating them.

"It sounds incredibly frustrating," Gilly acknowledged softly. "Maybe giving it some time could help too. Sometimes, things settle or perspectives shift when we step back a bit."

Gilly wasn't sure if her advice, considering she herself had never been in such a situation, or if her being there was helpful. Her own thoughts briefly drifted to her brother, wondering how much he knew about this situation and if there was anything he could do to help. But her focus quickly returned to Bryony and attempting to comfort her, even if just a little.

"We, umm, don't have to talk about it anymore if you don't want to," she stated, her eyes not leaving Bryony. "And I can leave if you would like to be alone for a bit. Or if you want someone to just sit with you in silence, I can do that too."

Bryony was going to crash and burn sooner or later. It didn't need to be in the presence of anyone thankfully, she was clearly already making one of her dorm mates uncomfortable. Sorry Gilly. She really was trying to keep things in check, the tears that burned behind her eyes and how badly she wanted to scream and rant about all the things. But there was a time and place for everything. Like when she was all alone.

"I've been..." Giving it time. Giving him space and herself too. Annnnd just so everyone was aware of this little fact, it was beyond horrible. Yes, it was her own doing but being away from Ary was one of the worst things ever.

A small shrug of her shoulders happened. "It doesn't matter." Talking about it didn't seem to be helping much but at the same time it also wasn't not helping her. As for Gilly leaving, Bry gave her a confused look. Now why would she leave? Was Bry really that terrible to be around right now? "You don't have to if you don't want to."

She watched Bryony carefully, seeing the mix of emotions playing across her face. It was clear how much she was struggling, and it did pain Gilly to see her like this even if the situation was slightly awkward and not something she was the best at handling when it came to providing comfort.

"It sounds like you've been doing the best you can," she replied, her tone gentle and reassuring.

The confusion in Bryony's eyes when she mentioned leaving caused Gilly to give a small smile. "I just want to make sure you're comfortable," she clarified softly. She hadn't meant to suggest that Bryony was terrible to be around, only that sometimes people needed space. "I'm here for you, and I won't go if you don't want me to. We can just sit here, and I can read while you rest. Or I can go if you would like to have the room to yourself for a bit and have some space."

Her eyes wavered back to the book that was sitting on her nightstand. She silently scooted toward it, picking up Numerology and Grammatica again. The pages remained closed as she set it on her lap and waited.

It was all just so new. These were such big feelings that she wasn't at all used to. They weren't going to talk about the tantrums she threw every now and again, there was no need for that. Happiness and being on the go was her thing. Not this.

"I don't know what else to do.." Besides speak to him again and possibly get her heart crushed even harder. But sooner or later, that's exactly what she was going to do because Bryony Rose Paton didn't hide from anything.

Bryony sighed quietly. "It's your dorm too. It wouldn't be fair of me to ask you to leave, 'specially when you were in here first." If her mama heard about that somehow, she'd be in trouble for it.. and she had manners. Annnnnnd Gilly was being really nice trying to help her like she is. "You can stay."

Reaching to grab Falkor, her stuffed dragon from The Neverending Story, Bry caught sight of the book now on Gilly's lap. "Whatcha reading?" Pleeeeeeease let it be something they could talk about.

Sydney laid on her stomach, absentmindedly swinging her feet in the air. Her potions homework was spread out on the bed in front of her. She glanced up from her wook, looking down at the blue basket on the floor beside her nightstand. There Vox, her dragon egg, lay snugly wrapped in a blue blanket.

While she pored over her potions assignment, faint music issued from an old radio on her nightstand. Whether it was a jazz station interrupted by intermittent static or a static station interrupted by intermittent jazz was anyone’s guess! As she glanced at Vox, a thought occurred to her. If he turned out to be a Welsh Green, would the type of music she played affect his roar? Specifically, if she played a staticky station, would Vox’s roar sound like radio static? That would be amazing! She couldn’t wait until he hatched so she could find out.
