It would be simple right.

Daisy thought for a few moments, before she put her hand up. "Something valuable." That was all she could think about, surely you wouldn't need to lock a box if it was just junk in the box.

"That's correct," Feirgrund would've liked to hear their reasoning, but "valuables" did speak for themselves after all.

Anyways the lesson began with a Q&A portion as usual. They were going to be practicing the Box Blasting Charm soon that could unlock trunks or cases or even doors Emmie supposed, but didn't they use Alohomora for that too? Raising her hand she waited for her turn before supplying her suggestion, directing her gaze towards Professor F as she started speaking. "Expensive jewellery like necklaces, rings, bracelets, tiaras, crowns and similiar are often kept in locked cases, boxes or so to keep them from being stolen or damaged. Hopefully that answer was good enough. It was what had come to mind when Professor Feirgrund had asked what items/objects could be kept in locked and stored away boxes.

"That's correct," Feirgrund nodded.

It looked like she was, other than being embarrassed.

The first question felt so easy.

A diary.” Solomon blurted out, “if you’re in to that sort of thing.” HE obviously wasn’t one to keep a diary. AHEM. But if he did, then you better believe it would be locked up good and proper. He offered an explanation even though he thought it obvious. “To make sure your private thoughts aren’t being read by someone who shouldn’t be reading it.” That made sense, and he hoped he’d gotten the question right, because he quite often misunderstood them, it seemed.

"Well-reasoned," Feirgrund nodded. Diaries and Journals were both private.

Each of her sibling had one up there full of things her mom wasn't able to part with, a few outfits, a blanket. All those of type of things.

"Correct," Feirgrund did have sentimental items locked as well from his own kids.

If she hadn't known her curly haired Bestie so well, it might have been misconstrued as sarcasm, a joke on how she clearly wasn’t elegant as her shoulder had made contact with an inanimate object. But this was Anna and she was pretty certain that the sixth year was incapable of saying anything intentionally offensive or unkind plus the arm linking helped to settle that touch of embarrassment and she leaned in to her best friend's side. “The wall snuck up on me!” she whispered back, although this ‘whisper’ was far louder than it needed to be.

Thankfully she didn’t see any stifling of laughs from Solomon, probably for the best and the lesson had started anyway.

Aurora didn’t keep a diary herself, mostly because by the time she had thought of something it would come spilling out of her mouth anyway. The thought of Solomon keeping a diary had her intrigued to the point that once he had finished his sentence, she leaned closer to the boy (likely dragging poor Anna who was still attached to her arm with her) to whisper. “You can borrow my gel pens for your diary if you’d like?” Y’know, because it deserved to look and smell great if it was carrying all your deepest, darkest secrets. Besides, Rora loved to share!

She loved to share her ideas too, hence the raised hand. “Gnomes.” Bared teeth, bearded, scary garden gnomes. Temporarily though. Just as long as they had food and water and could be released far FAR away from her. “Or maybe Boggarts? Do Boggarts need food? It wouldn’t be very fair to keep them locked away and starving.” What lesson was this again?

Creatures... that was unexpected to hear but not wrong, "Both Magical and Non-magical versions of gnomes do make one want to lock them away," Not that he was suggesting it for the live ones, ahem. "Professor Khanna would be able to fully confirm this, boggarts tend to feast on fear more so than physical foods," Feirgrund did quietly wonder if the suspected collision had her mistakening the subject. He'd keep an eye out for any other signs of a concussion.

She had also found herself a seat near her usual group but not quite beside them like she always did, especially when she had seen who was sitting right beside Ary.. but of course he was. It was fine though, everything was just fine.. there was nothing for anyone to see here. And to prove as much the usual finger wiggle wave had been given to Professor Fairgrund.

Now when the lesson began, Bry tried to pay attention. Really she did. Blue eyes even focused on Fairgrund, glad to hear that to too many notes would have to be taken today. The less notes she needed to take, the less she would need to review. Maybe if she was lucky no homework would be given today either. Then she would have even more time to think about things. Things that weren't supposed to be on her mind right now... What had the Professor asked? Something about keeping things locked away? "My mama keeps her lessons locked away, I guess so no one can see them but her before she teaches that particular lesson." Bry had no clue if this was the sort of answer Fairgrund was looking for but at least she had managed something.

Feirgrund took a moment, then realizing which Professor she was speaking of. Which earned him softly smiling with a nod, "There is a thrill with providing the element of surprise," As he himself often did that too.

That seemed anticlimactic. With a name like that, she thought it would actually blast a box apart. Maybe if she cast it hard enough…

She hoped there was at least something fun inside the hypothetical box in question to make up for the lack of blasting! Speaking of which, Professor Feirgrund's question reminded her of all the fun things her mums kept locked away… not that it mattered. She always found a way around the lock if it was something she wanted. She raised her hand and said, ”Dangerous things that could cause harm in the wrong hands like knives, glass, certain potions… My mums locked away all of those things when my sisters and I were little.” Not so much now because they trusted at least one of the girls to be responsible…

"Well-reasoned, both valuable and dangerous items are excellent candidates on being locked away,"

It was so like Sloane not to greet the professor. He purposely stared at her just so that she would acknowledge him, and because he liked messing with her. When his fellow Sltherin finally nodded at him, he reached out to poke her very lightly in the shoulder. However, whereas he was unafraid of Sloane, Drake was not. Grateful that himself and Drake’s friendship seemed to have not taken a hit in Ary’s recent confession at the Topiary Garden, he welcomed the other guy with a wide smile. Hi, Drake. Nudge, nudge, Also, hello to you as well, Emmeline, Emma and Pheebs. His entire attention went to Bry as she approached the group. He hadn’t expected her to sit with him. Even if they still had their talk, it was still awkward between them; something which Ary hadn’t thought he’d experience with her. He sighed softly to himself while wishing his life was less complicated.

Thankfully the lesson was starting which meant he got to be distracted.

A brief stint of lecture and note-making? Aryan loved the sound of that. Especially when he heard the interesting Charm they were to be working on today. Surely this was bound to come in handy at some point? His first answer would have been valuables but since that was already mentioned… “Exam papers,’’ he piped up when he was called upon. The idea had came to him because of Bry's answer and he mainly presented it to the class because he hoped to get her attention. Maybe she would grin at him or even glance at him… or something? “Professors can lock them away from students.”

Another answer that brought a soft smile, "That's another good candidate, it also helps prevent them from getting lost," A true nightmare is one losing grades.

This left him no chance for chatting with friends before the lesson as usual, but still he gravitated toward the general vicinity of Anna and Aurora.

He did appreciate the fact that the lesson was outside, so he figured he should show that appreciation by paying attention. It was difficult when his thoughts often drifted elsewhere, but he could manage.

So. A chest. Box Blasting Charm. Storing items. Like what? A lot of things had already been said, and...there was only one thing left that had popped into his head. "Treasure like gold coins, if you're a pirate," he said after raising his hand.

"That's correct," Both magical and non-magical pirates had a hankering for sealed treasure.

"Um, if you had something special that you wanted to keep private, like important documents for when you die, or a special scrapbook, you could lock them up. They're private." That made Phoebe frown, though. They were learning how to blast open boxes, and it wasn't right to go through other people's stuff. What if someone started going through her stuff and reading her private journal??

Feirgrund blinked, briefly wondering before realizing his error. "Ah.. yes, you are, my mistake Miss Calypso." How embarrassing, for him more so. "Take a point for addressing it right away," He appreciated corrections.

With her answer, "That's correct," Feirgrund said. "It would be a shame for them to be unlocked."

Quiet and subtle, so as not to disturb the others around them. Bryony 's appearance had also gotten a smile though perhaps the one offered was a bit more tentative, but Drake certainly hoped that didn't show. Aryan's returned nudges got another smile too, but then as Professor Feirgrund had officially started the class the boy went silent as he tuned in to pay attention.

Box blasting charm today, was it? That sounded exciting! Though.... Respectfully Professor, if they were all being taught how to break in to locked places he would decline to offer any sort of an answer lest he draw anyone's curiosity towards his own belongings. Not that Drake had anything terribly exciting, a diary as mentioned by others and some extra blankets, but still he didn't particularly want either of those items to go missing. Perhaps most notably his blankets though. Those were IMPORTANT for all the fort building he likes to do!

Remaining quiet, the boy's eyes flitted to each of his classmates as they offered verbal answers, giving a nod of agreement here and there.

While no response, Feirgrund did see this student was physically present and attentive to other's answers. Very good.

"...so...it was your dance partner?" she whispered back, bright eyes darting back and forth between the blonde and the wall and herself wondering how she could get a wall to be her dance partner for a spin. Surely it was a good partner, you know? Nice and sturdy and such. "Maybe we should invite the suits of armour next time," she suggested, thoughts still trying to logically piece together the fantasy she had woven as class officially began and the professor denied his pirate heritage through omission.

"Oh a DIARY! I have one of those too. Well, actually, I suppose what I have is a journal since there is no real organization to it and sometimes I even accidentally jump pages ahead and have to double back to fill in the ones I missed," she added to Solomon's response with several firm nods. "Suppose knowledge in general is something that is...locked away..." Anna trailed off for a moment, her fingers tugging a bit on some of her loose curls, and eyes unfocusing as if they were delving into their own chest nestled away in her mind palace. At least her response was, mostly, on topic and echoed in sentiment to the majority of her peers' responses.

Save for Ezra's...which did pull her back because of the connection to pirates and treasure and...why was she crying? "Huh?" she murmured to herself, her hand reaching up to touch her cheek which was only slightly damp from a couple of tears that had decided to go on a slide down her face. She blinked a few more times in Ezra's direction before looking forwards again, entirely missing whatever Phoebe had said.

"Knowledge, yes, there's plenty of documents of the past kept locked for safe-keeping." Feirgrund nodded in approval. There was a noticeable change in her demeanor in some student's responses. But rather than draw full attention now, he'd wait until after class to address it.

"Alright, settle down, everyone," Addressing some of the background chatter in between student's responses, Feirgrund used his wand to tap the blackboard a few times before the following appeared:

Wand Incantation/Movement: Cistem Aperio - Tracing the Letters C & V conjoined left-to-right

"The Box-Blasting Charm is used to unlock trunks, chests, boxes, and other forms of container.. with a bit of a blast," Not that he had to add that last bit as most had likely imagined, "To clarify with it opening those with simple locks, typically when sealed items are locked away they're put under a number of charms that wouldn't allow this one charm to work even with the most experienced. It's the same reason for why Alohomora doesn't work on all doors and windows. But with time, charms wear off and this is perfect for finding old valuables that may not be deemed as important enough to have multiple charms for security," This could set aside some thoughts from those planning to go on a raiding spree of other's belongings.

Now for the objective, "This chest here will be perfect one to start on, before you get to find more chests to open," Nothing like a fun activity, right? "But first, we practice the incantation, Cistem Aperio. Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh." Waiting until enough audibly spoke it. "Good, continuing pronouncing it. NEWT students, practice it both audibly and wordlessly,"

"Next up is the wand movement," Feirgrund motioned his wand out, "You begin tracing out the letter C, joining it with the letter V from left to right," As he pointed his wand at the board to motion the direction drawn out. "Once you feel comfortable enough, you can line up in front of the table and practice on the chest. If done correctly, the chest will blast open and cough up get a piece of parchment, then you can return to your seat with it. It'll take a moment for the instructions to appear." Nothing like some anticipation.

OOC: Great responses everyone! Now you'll be practicing the wand movement and the Box-blasting charm. The main activity will continue with further instructions 48 hours from now. If you have any questions feel to ask. ^_^

Greer smiled as the new spell she had not learned yet appeared on the black board. She loved learning new things, and like most things in her life magic had come easy and natural to her. She had yet to try a spell that she had not well if not mastered, worked well on the first or second try. She wouldn't say she was the most advanced studen to ever come to Hogwarts but she wouldn't argue if someone else said that, she stayed humbled though ... most of the time.

Trying out the spell out loud of few times time "Cistem Aperio, Cistem Aperio, Cistem Aperio" And then pulling out her wand to trace the CV movement a few times.

"Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh" She tried one more time without her wand to just make sure the words rolled off her tongue a bit. She smiled and stood up confident when she tried it, the spell would work for her.

MadMadamMalfoy 05-14-2024 09:38 PM

Sydney listened, copying down the spell information in her notes. Only a bit of a blast? That didn’t sound like much fun! Her ears did perk up at the mention of unlocking old things, though, Was that why the lesson was here? Were they going to search the abandoned hut for old things to unlock? Now that sounded fun, blast or not!

Eager to try the spell, she practiced the individual components starting with the incantation. “SEES-tem - uh-PAIR-ee-oh,” she repeated, enunciating each syllable carefully. “SEES-tem - uh-PAIR-ee-oh, Cistem Aperio, Cistem Aperio…”

When she felt confident with the pronunciation, she moved on to the wand movement. Holding her wand in her right hand, Sydney traced the C & V shape connected left to right. After a few more tries, she shifted her wand to her left hand and practiced the movement again with that hand a few times. Now she was ready to try the spell for real!

minor catchups too :3

Emma didn't feel like she needed any charms to help clear her airways. It was just normal winded from too much exercise, too quickly... but before she had a moment to protest, Feirgrund had nonverbally cast a charm. "Right, thanks," she nodded at him, with the instant relief. She turned to her Ravenclaw friend when she asked about peeves, shaking her head. "No Peeves. Just me being forgetful." She admitted with a smile, but a moment later and the lesson was beginning.

The box-blasting charm. She had similar worries as to Drake, but also not because she was generally very trusting that she didn't think twice about locking valuables up. But that didn't mean she hadn't thought about things that might need extra security. The usual money and diaries, that others mentioned but there was also the dark wizarding history from over a century ago. Ary's mention of professors locking away exam papers from students had Emma recalling that bit of history. "Or lock away ... bodies for nefarious purposes." Not that she would think of doing that, but well, others had so it was worth the mention.

It seemed they were going to be practicing the incantation now. "Sys-tem .... ap-par-o. sys-tem ap-par-o." Her enunciations slightly off, but not noticing as she repeated it several times. It was, after all, hard to catch oneself in mispronunciations since they sounded correct to her.

FearlessLeader19 05-14-2024 10:45 PM

Now that there were so many answers coming forth, for the first time Aryan actually understood how many things could be hidden. Did he have anything physical to hide? Nope. Not in the past, not in the present at least so maybe in the future? He mentally shrugged as Feirgrund continued the lesson.

The Slytherin has suspected as much about the Charm being only able to work to an extent. After all, what would be the point of keeping a box or something of the sort when there was a spell that could easily open them? Oh? There would be a hunt for chests? Super interesting!

“Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh,’’ Ary began, muttering the incantation but enunciating the syllables exactly as the professor had. “Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh. Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh. Cistem Aperio, Cistem Aperio.” The incantation seemed to roll right off his tongue now. This meant he could move onto the wand movement! Silently, his wand was moved as had been demonstrated. This was done slowly for about times then at a little increased pace as Aryan got the hang of it.

Phoebe nudged Drake back, feeling better-than-usual. Professor Feirgrund used her correct name AND Phoebe got a point. She didn't usually get points, especially not for correcting people, so she was pleased. She took careful notes on the box-blasting spell and then got right to work on practicing the incantation. Phoebe was good at charms!! So she felt more confident. "sees-tem uh-pair-ee-oh," she practiced. "seestem uhpaireeoh. Cistem Aperio!" She practiced it lots of times until she felt confident, before moving on to the wand movement. C... V... CV... was she doing this too slowly? CV!! Pheebs had a harder time with the wand movement, which felt complicated, but she watched the older students and eventually got the hang of it.

Phoebe moved to line up behind the other students. "Professor? Isn't it rude to go through other people's things?" She felt a little stressed. What if they went through her things? Phoebe would be crushed if that happened!

Sadness wove with confusion which then gave way to utter bewilderment as the Hufflepuffle continued to touch her cheeks, each moist touch ushering in blurry and disjointed vision that was as foreign as it was familiar. One final flash of blinding lime green light temporarily robbed her eyes of their usual luster fully brought Anna out of the deepest echoes of her mind - maybe she needed to get some Dreamless Sleeping Draughts...although she hadn't actually been asleep so was there a no Nightmareing During Daydreaming Draught available?

Patting her cheeks and even pinching them to make sure that she was totally awake and in the present now, though she had unfortunately heard Emma's suggestion for items to lock away and it had sent a rather unpleasant shiver up and down her spine, Anna's eyed refocused at last on the board and the incantation to be practiced. "SeeS-TEM...oh-Pair-ee-uh..." she whispered, the words rolling off her tongue like chunky peanut butter. "Seas-TUM...uuuuuuh-Par-ee-oh...Sees-tem...uh-Pair-ee-oh...Sees-tem...uh-Pair-ee-oh..." The incantation was getting so easier to say and Anna could only fantasize about a world in which she could bypass her inability to pronounce things and cast them nonverbally. Still, she was feeling...somewhat confident in her pronunciation after a handful more tries.

"A C...joining with a V..." she repeated while her eyes crossed trying to focus on her wand as it moved through the air. "Professor...is it similiar to when you are writing in cursive? That sort of...C to V connection?" For some reason she was really not grasping the concept and her wand may as well be traveling through molasses. Her attention briefly drifted to Phoebe and her question to which she simply had to sat something! "Well, Professor Feirgrund has given us permission to perform the spell on THAT particular chest, so you needn't worry about being rude," she assured the girl. "Nor do I think that Professor Feirgrund is teaching this particular spell to us with the intention of going and using it on others as an antagonist nor for malevolent intent. More so that...well...it could be useful to know the skill in an emergency situation. ALSO, one of the best ways to know how to protect against something is to know how to do it, right? Or at least know the logistics of how it is done."

"That's right, Miss Walles," Feirgrund thought this was a good question, incase others struggled as well. "Joining the C to V is similar to cursive writing fashion, where the bottom half of the C will connect to the top left portion of the letter V," Just in case they needed another demonstration, Feirgrund walked over to stand on the side facing towards the board. "Like so," Then taking his wand out to repeat the wand movement.

The question did confuse Feirgrund at first. He didn't recall saying or implying that they'd be going through other student's belongings, as he tracked back to what he said earlier. Perhaps, they had a different concern? A valid concern, as Miss Calypso likely wasn't the only one with the same thought. "I can assure you, the box-blasting charm in today's lesson will not be used on anyone else's belongings," Especially in front of his eyes. Miss Walles was quick to also address the concern, "As Miss Walles said, it is beneficial being familiar of the box-blasting charm. As many forms of security have a work-around, there are ways to prevent this charm from working. School trunks, for example, already are equipped with a charm preventing other students within the same magical ability from breaking in. It would take a generation or two for the charm to wear down to the degree of a beginner from opening it." Wondering if this would be enough assurance, he'd happy to elaborate. Wouldn't want to have students leaving worried instead of feeling confident in their abilities.

So far the students were practicing well. Some were really getting the hang of it. Feirgrund saw two students stood up to line up and looked ready to try out the spell... supposedly. He waited for a moment as they stood idly, before adding gently, "Excellent, you're free to try it out on the chest here. When you're ready, give it a go," Gesturing the chest on the table sitting nicely. "If it doesn't open with a slip of paper for you, that's okay, you can head to the back of the line and re-try until it does."

---
OOC: Keep it up everyone, you're doing great! Friendly reminder, your character's free to try out the charm on the chest first when ready to receive a blank parchment. Next day, we'll continue into the full activity. ^_^ If you have any questions feel to ask/message me.

Wait.. Did Anna genuinely think that she was performing a dance routine with an inanimate object? Aurora just assumed she was being a great friend and pretending to avoid any embarrassment on the Ravenclaws behalf. She sort of slow blinked before deciding to go along with whatever story the Hufflepuff was weaving. “Umm.. Yes. But not a very good one.” Too solid, not enough flexibility. “Have you worked out how to awaken them yet? The suits of armour I mean. Because I don’t think needing a dance partner is enough of an emergency for them.” She recalled back to a conversation they’d had previously.

She would’ve been listening to what Feirgrund was explaining had she not been watching her bestie’s eyes well up. She leaned closer, sliding her hand into Anna’s and giving it a gentle squeeze. “Are you okay?” she whispered, concern etching on her face. “Is it allergies? My Ma says weed pollen is the worst in September.” Her eyes darted over towards Ezra, to the Professor and then back to Anna. Listening would just have to wait.

..Or not. Suddenly the rest of the class were practicing their spells and Aurora had absolutely no clue what she was doing. It was lucky that the incantation had been written on the board really as distractions happened all too often for the fifth year. Despite Anna’s.. moment, she had apparently been able to tune in so the blonde attempted to copy her.

“Seeeeeeeees-tem uh-pair-eeeee-oh.” Oh how she wished that incantations could be simple and easy to recall. “Why can’t it be openus boxius?” she spoke out loud, her nose wrinkling like a rabbit whilst practicing drawing a C into a V in her neatest cursive writing in the air with her wand. She was happily getting along with repeating the incantation and drawing pretty CV’s in the air in different fonts until she heard the third year's rather worrisome answer about concealing bodies which stopped her dead in her tracks.

Oooookaaaay..

Emzily 05-15-2024 08:38 PM

His cheeks were BURNING with embarrassment.

What? I don’t have a diary!!” He snapped at Aurora who absolutely loved to annoy him in class, it seemed. He had also said it loud enough for the class to hear, for clarity. “I was just offering a reasonable answer to Professor Feirgrund’s question.” And thankfully, it did appear he had answered a question correctly for once. A silent victory there, WOOOOO! The humiliation had distracted him from Ezra heading over to his friends, and therefore, him, and Solly looked at him for a moment, nonchalantly. He did not notice lasting effects his presence had had on Anna, which was probably a good thing. Too wrapped up in people thinking he kept a DIARY.

Gosh golly DARN.

Back to the entire reason they were here - class - Solly tried his utmost best to focus on the incantation and wand movement needed for todays charm. The wand movement took a little longer to master than he had hoped. Honestly he just wanted to throw the towel in today and go to bed, so he let out a bit of a grumble.

SEES-tem… uh-PAIR-ee-Something.” Solly was lazy. “Pair-ee-oh.” Easy enough. “SEES-tem - uh-PAIR-ee-oh.” He said it a few times, fast and without much further thought. He felt ready to just go for it.

FearlessLeader19 05-15-2024 10:42 PM

Ary waited until a few of the other students had had their turn at the chest. He had watched in fascination as they all tried and had varying degrees of success with the charm. It was always like that, some taking longer than others to master it. The Slytherin was certain it would be the same for him as usual.

“Cistem Aperio.” The wand movement of tracing the cursive-like C&V was done. Perhaps it was his low expectation of nothing happening on this initial try but that was exactly what happened. However, that served as motivation for the subsequent attempts. “Cistem Aperio.” There was more confidence in that incantation and the way the wand moved. The chest remained as it was so it was definitely time for another try. If Ary didn’t hurry, there would be a long line behind him as others waited their turn. “Cistem Aperio.’’ Even more confidence and intent was applied this round.

Finally.

The top half of the chest sprang open and a slip of parchment fluttered out at him. Aryan caught it, noticing that it was indeed blank. Mission accomplished, he headed back to his seat, eyes on the parchment. What could these instructions be?

AlwaysSnapesGirl 05-15-2024 11:00 PM

His answer had partially been a joking one, and fortunately the professor seemed okay with it, but when Anna looked at him, Ezra immediately felt a spike of concern. Why was she crying??? Was it something he'd said? Someone else had said? Something...else??

He was going to ask if she was okay, but Aurora got there first, so he merely moved a little closer just to let her know he was here. Maybe it was just allergies, like Aurora suggested, so maybe everything was okay?

It was only then that he noticed Solomon's presence nearby too, complaining about having a diary or something, but Ezra had no desire to interact with that guy right now, so...he simply looked away too. And he tried to focus on the next part of the lesson with the pronunciation of the incantation and wand movement.

Tried, being the key word.

He was more preoccupied with keeping an eye on Anna, but he did at least absentmindedly practice the wand movement. It was a little tricky, the C into a V shape thing. And maybe, hopefully, it looked like he was trying the pronunciation non-verbally, even though he wasn't thinking about the spell at all right now.

Chelliephone 05-16-2024 01:28 AM

Charms was not his strong suit, and because of this fact, Drake was doing his very best to ignore what was happening with his other peers (which was concerning given an older student was crying??) and trying to focus on the task at hand. Which... seemed like it was going to take all of his concentration anyways, because as Professor Feirgrund provided instructions the boy nearly GROANED with how difficult the spell pronunciation sounded. The wand movement didn't look very simple either, but he'd worry about that problem when he'd finished his task with the first.

Taking a deeeep breath, Drake stayed in his spot and began practicing the words first. "Sees-term... no, see-stem ... no.... SEES-tem." That last one sounded right for the first word! He repeated it another 5 times before he was certain he could say it. "SEES-tem - au pair oh...no. SEES-tem uh-pair-oh-ee... not quite. SEES-tem uh-PAIR-ee-oh." Third time was the charm again as the second word and first word sounded correct! And then Drake was left to repeat it to himself another 10 times, in quick unison under his breathe. Once he was certain he could say the spell, it was on to wand movement practice.

C...V... connected. He tried a few times, the first few looking backwards and like he'd done his V first, but after watching his peers a few times he tried again and was starting to get a better hang of it. Drake kept practicing, his eyes trained on Aryan's movements (who he knew DID excel in this class) before he could copy his friend's hand and felt ready to try them together.

Standing up, he waited his turn before approaching the practice chest and taking a deeeeeep breath before raising his wand. "SEES-tem - uh-PAIR-ee-oh" with his CV. Only for..... nothing to happen. Drake blinked, and tried again. Still nothing. Feeling far more confident on his third try (it WAS the magic number!) he deflated a bit when it still didn't work. Taking a deeeeeep breath to recenter himself, the slytherin focused one final time. "SEES-tem - uh-PAIR-ee-oh". Only to beam when the lid opened for him, and he was able to retrieve a blank piece of paper.

Pleased to have remained caught up with the class so far, he returned to his friends and waited for the next instructions.

Nordic Witch 05-16-2024 04:20 AM

Emmeline looked over at Emma briefly when her friend explained her lateness. It was good that Peeves wasn't involved at least, being forgetful not so much. Maybe she could give Emma a helpful planner to keep track of classes and whatnot for christmas? Attention back on front Emmie wrote down all the new spell information for the box blasting charm. It was almost like Professor F had read her unspoken question from earlier when he explained why they both had use of Cistem Aperio as well as Alahomora for opening locked objects and doors.

On to practicing the new incantation. "Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh." Emmie muttered to herself. "Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh.", "Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh." she kept practicing. It was hard to pronounce. It felt wrong in her mouth somehow and on her tongue. It wasn't until she had practiced the incantation another 10 times under her breath that she felt like she had gotten the hang of it.

The wand movement was supposed to be a connected C and V. Emmie had watched Prof F demonstrate it but it wasn't until she had stolen glances over at Drake and Aryan and seen how they practiced the wand movement that she understood how to do it. It was nice to have friends to look to when feeling a bit lost. So right unholstering her wand Emmie got to work practicing the wandmovement herself. The C didn't really connect fully with the V the first few times but she gotten hang of it eventually, not giving up.

Feeling confident that she had enough hang on the incantation and wandmovement she stood up and walked over to await her turn to try the spell on the locked chest up front. "Cistem Aperio!" Emmie casted but nothing happened because she forgot the wand movement, oops! Trying again with blushed pink cheeks she concentrated "Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh." not forgetting the CV wandmovement this time. The chest quivered slightly but nothing happened. Okay third times the charm....Emmie gave it another got saying/casting firmly with force. "Sees-tem. uh-Pair-ee-oh." with her CV wand movement and this time the chest blasted open to reveal a blank piece of paper which Emmeline retrived before returning to her seat.

MadMadamMalfoy 05-16-2024 11:36 AM

Sydney joined the line in front of the chest. When her turn came, she stepped up confidently. Holding her wand in her right hand, she made the connected C & V wand movement and aimed at the chest. ”Cistem Aperio!” she cast. The chest jiggled a bit but didn't open. Well, that was somewhat disappointing!

Defeated for now, she stalked to the back of the line. Why hadn't it worked on the first try? What was she doing wrong? She did the right wand movement and said the right incantation… maybe she just needed more power behind the spell.

As her next turn came, she stepped up to the chest once more. For Merlin's sake, get it right, Syd! There are people watching, she thought. Focusing all her concentration on the chest, she made the wand movement again. ”Cistem Aperio!” she cast, a bit louder this time.

The chest blasted open with a BANG! There, that was more like it! Sydney took the parchment inside and carried it back to her seat. What would the instructions say? Whatever it was, she hoped it involved more box blasting… or searching that abandoned hut. Either would be fun, especially some combination of the two!

Kolyander 05-16-2024 04:49 PM

Whatever was going on around her went hardly noticed, Bryony was lucky she was able to focus on the task at hand right now, let alone anything else. Her mind was still a bit scattered though she had seen that tentative smile Drake had sent her way and how Ary's answer had been similar to her own. Had that been purposely done? It seemed like a very Ary-like thing to do to get her attention. Which it had.. momentarily.

The lesson had moved on and now she had to work on recieting the in cation to this charm. Cistem Aperio. It would blast open the lock on the chest they would have to open soon. Pretty cool. But was she butchering how this was meant to be said? Absolutely. And the trouble with this was, she knew it! She could hear herself saying it wrong, over and over again. The proper way was 'Sees-tem uh-Pair-ee-oh'. Yet, she still said it over.

Giving up with that for a few moments, the little blonde decided to give the wand movement a go. This was a C & V connected almost like script. Oddly enough this was much easier for her to accomplish tracing through the air a few times with utter perfection.

Now why was that so easy but she couldn't manage the incantation today?! Sigh.

Activity time

After some time had passed, a few students managed to successfully open the box. It was well time for the activity. "Alright everyone, you're doing well! Those of you still working on mastering the charm, you can continue working on it with this chest here until you receive a a slip of parchment. Give it some time before the location shows up." Gesturing the table once more. Before any worries could begin, "Do not fret if you're still unable to master it by the end of the lesson, you'll be credited just the same for all your attempts," It would be too discouraging not crediting everyone.

"Those of you who were successful and managed to have a slip of paper, take a look now and see what shows up. You will be going on a little treasure hunt, based on the hint of the location provided. The item in particular are known for being on the sweet side and will be hidden inside a box somewhere in the vicinity of where we are. You're welcome to work with another, as long as you each managed to open container of your own."

Before adding one important factor, "There is also a charm to prevent you from wandering too far for the duration of the lesson. So you won't be lost looking for it." That way no student will accidentally end up in the Forbidden Forest or elsewhere. Merlin knows what could be found in there. "When you're ready, begin!"

OOC: You all are doing amazing! ^_^ As mentioned, continue working on the main chest on the table if your student is still working on the charm. Those going on the treasure hunt, your provided location is free for you to choose to RP, based on this bingo card. There's no need to post in other threads, just be sure to label the title of your post (ex. A1, C4, D2,etc.) while searching in this thread. A Narrator will respond if you're close by/found it along with the randomized reward when the charm is done successfully. There will be at least 72 hours to complete this. Any questions, feel free to ask/vm/pm. :)

Drake was more than welcome to continue copying him. What else were friends for if not to assist? And to lowkey cross their fingers so that said friends would be successful with the assigned tasks? Which Drake was. “Well done,’’ Ary whispered once his fellow Slytherin was back with the parchment. “You too, Emmeline.” But he just wished he could help Bry; Ary had the suspicion that she wasn’t in the mood for his presence.

He dearly wanted to partner up with Drake but he was wondering how insensitive that would be given that Bry was most likely upset at both of them. He knew it would make her feel worse. But he wanted the familiarity of his guy bestie to keep him company while he worked through the mucky situation that was him upsetting the girl bestie.

“Inside the hut, Duck?” Ary eventually asked. That way, Bry was likely to notice that they had partnered up.

He was entirely grateful that that was Aryan's way of thinking, because he was pretty certain he wouldn't have made it at all through Charms in the past 2 terms if it hadn't been for Aryan's additional assistance and guidance. It was super helpful to have friends good at other subjects! At the affirmation from his friend, Drake beamed brightly at Aryan and wiggled back into his spot besides the boy, giving a nod to Emmeline as well as she also returned with her bit of parchment.

Observing the rest of the class as they got their papers, Drake was relieved when they were moving on for a hunt. He also wanted to ask Ary if he wanted to work together, but he was trying to be sensitive too to the weirdness that was currently surrounding his friends and his accidental involvement in it. So... he was trying to refrain, and instead looking at his rather apt piece of parchment that said quack in front of the pond. Fitting, for a Duck like himself, wasn't it? Except before he could make any move away from the crowd, he heard Ary address him and invite him inside the hut - matching his note. The curly haired boy nearly sighed in relief, but instead settled for a wide smile and a quick nod of his head. "Sounds good to me. After you!" He chirped back, softly, as his own piece of paper was stuffed into his pocket before taking a few steps towards the hut. "It sounds like we're getting some type of candy or something as the prize... but what else do you think is in the hut?"

MadMadamMalfoy 05-17-2024 10:25 PM

B3- Behind the hut

Sydney listened intently as Professor Feirgrund explained the next activity. So they were looking for an item on the sweet side? Probably candy, she supposed. While she would’ve preferred a more useful “treasure”, she wouldn’t mind some sour gummy worms, jelly slugs, or bitter dark chocolate. If the prize contained none of those things, she could always give it to Blakeney. That was the good thing about having a twin sister who was nothing like her!

She opened her slip of parchment, frowning slightly at the contents. Behind the hut? She wanted to look inside the hut! At least it was a location in the vicinity of the hut… maybe she’d have time to look in the hut itself if she found the prize quickly. Wasting no time, she got up and circled around to the back of the hut.

Now if I were a box, where would I be? She thought. An idea occurred to her. Nobody ever thinks to look up! She glanced up, searching along the hut’s roof. Although she didn’t like being wrong, she sort of hoped the box wasn’t up there. She was still learning the levitation charm, and how else would she get it down?

Oh good.

Ary’s spirit lifted when Drake was able to partner with him, and mostly because they had ended up with the same spot to hunt. This duo always made a proper team {as Ary did with Bry} so he was quite sure that they’ll be able to locate the prize. “Here we go then.” Keen to escape the great outdoors, he hurried to the door of the hut and pushed it open. It creaked a bit, most likely because of lack of use. Light poured in through the windows - which Ary made a mental note to avoid should Bry catch sight of him. But mostly, here’s to hoping she didn’t end up here at the same time as him.

“Professors always think sweets are the best. I guess it’s the easiest prize since most like them.” Ary could go for sours though. He paused, surveying the hut. “A dark creature, maybe?” On second thought… “Just joking, Duck. Didn’t mean to scare you.” The hut though... “Looks cozy, doesn’t it? Shall we start searching? Behind the chairs, under the tables, in the cupboards. Basically anywhere that looks like a hiding place.” Ary had headed for the cupboards when an idea occurred to him. "Think we can Summon the box?"

Kolyander 05-17-2024 11:49 PM

Having mastered the wand movement very quickly, it was right back to working on the incantation. Which she was still struggling with. Each passing moment making it worse. Her frustration growing, especially when she realized she wasn't getting any of the usual help that she got. No help with the pronunciation, no words of encouragement.. nothing. Not even a gentle smile or a squeeze of the hand. And she already knew why. He was helping someone else. They had moved on and left her to her own devices. It was fine though, she was fine. Everything was fine.

She would continue working on this charm by herself. Reciting the incantation over and over until she FINALLY got it right. Did it take waaaaaaaaay longer.than normal? It sure did. But it didn't matter. She had learned it on her own. Now uhhhh.. all she had to do was open that box and get her slip of paper...

Getting to her feet and standing before the box, wand in hand, Bry tried her best to clear her head of everything but the charm at hand. Vision and intent. She could do this. "Cistem Aperio!" Nothing. Everything was right. Or was it? Her focus wasn't there and she knew. Yet she tried again. "Cistem Aperio!" And again. And again. Still nothing.

messy jumble of tl's ftw {target: C3, bush with most leaves on the ground}

Oh yeaaaaaaaaaaah. They hadn't had the best of luck getting the suits of armour to animate themselves previously. It wasn't that Anna had forgotten about that time, more so that her mind had apparently filled in the blanks and the suits of armour had indeed come to life and...well...now those details were all kinds of foggy as to just how said suits of armour had animated themselves. "Yes. No. Well...sort of. I remember coming across a bit of magic in my Transfiguration studies...or maybe it was History of Magic...but there IS a spell out there!" And it was, unfortunately, not a charm or else they could just ask the professor right now about it. She would remember the details eventually.

Probably.

Solomon's diary shenanigans did elicit a soft kind of giggle from the Hufflepuffle, enough of a distraction to pull her entirely from the darker bits plaguing her consciousness and therefore had a petite smile tugging on the corners of her lips by the time Aurora was checking in on her. "No no, no allergies...at least not that I can remember having," she assured her friend with a jovial-esque shake of the head and curls going all over the place in the process - especially across her nose which tickled a fair bit. "Do you ever nightmares during the day? Like...little nightmares just come galloping in and interrupt your day dreams?" Anna would have gladly elaborated a bit more on this were it not for the fact that the professor was offering her additional guidance on how to perform this particular wand movement - which was still pretty gosh dorn tricky but with the professor's help and additional demonstration she did have a more fluid movement to it. "OR..." she nodded as Aurora lamented the tongue-twister of an incantation. "Why is the want movement a c and a u and not a c and a like the incantation?" Although...now that she kind-of-sort-of had the c and u combination down she was struggling visualize the c and a combination...which was maybe why it was a u and not an a, just more fluid?

In any case, they were on a TREASURE HUNT and whatever ick had been dampening her spirits was completely cast aside. Anna still wasn't terribly confident with her spellcasting but this activity seemed like just the right motivation to fine tune her skills! And, well, she had done well enough to receive her piece of parchment from the practice treasure box so things ought to go okay...right? "Ezra," she stage whispered to her friend (who had been keeping a thoughtful eye on her and his watchful gaze was tickling her cheeks) while clapping her hands (fingers really) in rapid giddy succession. "You're a seer! It IS a pirate treasure hunt! I should have brought my pirate fairy costume." What was the name of that fairy again? She really ought to ask Aurora again because it was an event and a group costume that deserved to have every tiny detail committed to memory.

Bouncing in place, Anna relooped her arm around Tinkerbell Aurora's and tugged her forward. They were going to do this task together, right? Although, with Solomon and Ezra so close to them too they ought to just be a quartet! "Why don't we all work together? That way we'll find the treasure more quickly," she suggested while twirilng her wand between her fingers... and then promptly dropping it on the ground because her hand to eye coordination was still not stellar. "I'm going to go check that pile of leaves!"

And off she went at a skipping sprint (without Aurora in hand because she did not want to hurt Aurora's arm but DID hope Aurora would check an area close to where she was!) and when she was close enough to said pile of leaves...she flopped on to it. Not just a flop but an arms stretched out to both sides gleeful fall into the pile of leaves because leaf piles just had to be fallen into! Thankfully the Hufflepuffle knew how to do this without scraping up her knees and such, so she quickly bounced back on to her knees with an armful of leaves that she then threw up into the air. Okay...OKAY...she had had her fun and now was the time to return to the treasure hunt at hand. Therefore, crawling a bit on her hands and knees, Anna peered into the bush and moved around the leaves on the ground in front of and around the bush to look for a treasure box. "Where or where is the treasure box...or where or where can it beeeeeeeeeeeeee?" she sung softly.

Also, it was so confusing hearing someone else being called Duck that WASN'T Solomon.

Oh...WAIT...was that the chest there in the bush? Or...was it just a lot of branches and leaves twisted together that made her think it was a chest because of a trick of the light?

Nordic Witch 05-18-2024 05:13 AM

D1-Stack of hay

Overhearing both Aryan and Drake giving her a little praise for successfully opening the chest and retrieving a parchement gave her confidence a small boost. The Cistem Aperio wasn't easy to master and Emmeline was by no means an expert yet. Hopefully with more practice she'd get more confident with the new charms spell.

Several minutes later her next instructions for the sweets hunt was revealed. Emmie was only a teeny tiny bit dissapointed that she weren't going to be searching for sweets in the smale place as Drake and Aryan before she headed off towards the stack of hay with her trusty wand in hand. She doubted that she'd just find some sweets, probably bertie bott beans by just searching with her hands. Coming to a stop by the stack of hay Emmie went down on her knees and began searching amongst the hay wondering to herself where could the box of sweets be?
