Nestled in an otherwise blank wall near the History of Magic classroom is a small wooden door with a simple sign reading ‘Costume Closet’. Professor Fergersnout is a huge fan of the theatrical and has utilised this empty space to store a host of costumes and props for students to borrow.

Along the left hand wall are hanging rails full to the brim with period clothing and replicas as well as fantastical and unusual pieces appropriate for any time and any play. Typical of the Professor, the costumes haven’t been arranged by type or size so it may take a little time to rummage through until you find what you want. Above the rails are a series of mannequin heads displaying headpieces including hats, masks and wigs. A small step ladder has been provided for the vertically challenged should they not want to use levitation, just be extra careful when getting these down.

To the right of hanging rails is a shelving unit jammed full of lightweight props and replicas, housing everything from fake beards to swords made of foam. A small room behind a curtain sits nearby to act as a dressing room inside which is mounted a mirror on the wall.

The rest of the room is allocated to a small podium like stage and a single padded bench, long enough to seat 4 people comfortably. Students are welcome to use this space to practice their monologues, show off their costumes to friends or get ready for a spontaneous performance. Sadly the room is nowhere near large enough for a theatre or else Professor Fergersnout might’ve built her own Ampitheatre inside.

Don’t forget to sign out pieces on the sheet by the door on your way out.

As much as returning to Hogwarts felt like returning home for a quantity of the students, Apollonia herself felt most at peace when she had stepped through those doors and settled back into life as an educator. Nowhere else did she feel happier than on the first floor where her office, classroom and her pride of joy in the form of the costume closet was located.

She trusted the students but there was no doubt that general wear and tear from their everyday use was inevitable and she was responsible for fixing any holes for the next student - With magic of course, Fergersnout was terrible with a sewing needle and the likely outcome of any attempt at handsewing would be worse than it started as.

Satisfied that there was nothing to correct, she was temporarily distracted by the fake plastic skull sat on the shelf amongst the other props. Like a moth drawn to a flame, the History of Magic Professor picked it up, held it aloft and faced it towards her. “To be or not to be, that is the question” she spoke over-theatrically to herself.

For a fashionista like Desiree, the costume closet was right up her alley! Seriously, why had none of the previous professors thought to have one of these?! Best idea ever!

Which costume would she choose today? Perhaps a medieval princess like Snow White or Sleeping Beauty? Or something from the 1700s like Belle’s outfits? Or from the Regency or Victorian era, like the heroines of the classic romance novels she loved? The possibilities were endless!

She entered the closet just in time to catch Professor Fergersnout’s performance. “Hello, Professor,” she greeted, applauding politely. “Lovely rendition of Hamlet!”

Apollonia hadn't expected anyone to walk in in the middle of her Hamlet monologue but there was no reason why they shouldn’t either. In fact the Professor was thrilled any time that the students took advantage of her personal contribution to the betterment of the school.

In her opinion anyway, theatre was a necessary addition and should remain in the curriculum for years to come. It boosted communication and confidence and collaboration amongst those who studied it. The three C’s! Perhaps she should include that in her pamphlets advertising Drama Club? Back to the matter at hand, Desiree received a warm smile and a soft chuckle from Fergersnout as she placed the skull back onto the shelf before her.

“Ah, a cultured one I see” She was sure that a quantity of the students were unaware of the wonders of a playwright from so many centuries ago. “I find his plays timeless, don’t you?”

With the costume closet having come as an addition to Professor Fergersnout joining staff, it was one of the few places Vera had yet to explore, the previous term just not having offered opportunity to do so. But naturally, that had to be remedied immediately.

The 16 year old had had to drop drama as an extracurricular when she realized there was just too much on her plate, but that didn't mean she didn't still have a vast enjoyment of it. Particularly the dressing up aspect. There was something just so fun about getting to be not yourself for a few moments. Stepping into the closet, she glanced around already in awe at the options the History of Magic professor had accumulated, before selecting a random hat to place on her head as she perused more.

Desiree hoped she hadn’t disturbed Professor Fergersnout with her arrival, but that worry dissipated as she saw the professor smile. Her cheeks blushed a soft pink. She didn’t think of herself as particularly cultured for knowing a bit about Shakespeare. With a hopeless romantic father, a bookworm mother, and a retired librarian grandmother, she was bound to pick up some knowledge of that subject along the way.

Still, it was awfully kind of Professor Fergersnout to say! “Thank you, Professor,” she replied, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. She considered the question for a moment, thinking of her favorite works of Shakespeare. “Oh, yes, though I struggle a bit with the language sometimes. My favorite is Romeo and Juliet. Is Hamlet your favorite Shakespeare play?”

Speaking of which, she noticed a red and gold gown that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a Shakespeare production. Maybe she’d dress as Juliet today?

Fergersnout didn’t mind being disturbed. She’d often informed her students that her office door was open for anyone with worries and concerns, a quick matter or a full blown debate on why it WAS important to study the Troll Wars. The costume closet was a permanently open space for everyone to use just so long as nothing was damaged.

It was true that Shakespeare was full of Elizabethan English, an early rendition of their modern language which could make reading his plays a little complicated but that kind of added to the romanticism and interest of them. “I imagine many Muggles would think that we are a little set in our ways too, don’t you? We do after all live in a castle lit by candlelight,” she chuckled. Hogwarts probably wasn’t far off from a Tudor castle.

As for Hamlet being her favourite? “Merlin, no. I much prefer his comic works to his tragedies. Twelfth Night is such a hoot!” She could appreciate that tragedy made for an interesting storyline but Apollonia often longed to leave the theatre in tears of laughter rather than sorrow.

What was almost as fun as ninja warrior training? Getting to dress up and be silly! Not having to care about anything at all and just having a great time was what she was all about. So when she heard that there was a costume closet with loads of different things to choose from and she could really allow her imagination to run wild... she was there!

Long before Bry even reached the door to the room, the young blonde was skipping skipping and humming some random song under her breath. So leave it to her to squeal in even more delight as she opens the door to let herself inside and her bright blue eyes fall upon one of her most favorite upper class ladies! "Vera! Hi!" No one mind her as she half skipped, half bounced her way over towards the older girl. "Are you in here to play dress up too?"

Desiree considered the professor’s point. She often wondered what muggles, like her grandparents, would think of Hogwarts and the Wizarding World in general, She imagined the reactions would be pretty split. Some, like her grandmother, would probably be intrigued. Others, like her grandfather, would probably be exactly like the professor said, stuck in their ways. “I think so too,” she replied after some thought, “though one could argue that many muggles are set in their ways too. Anyway, I like living in a castle. It’s nice and cozy.” That, and it reminded her of the fairytales she grew up with!

Desiree giggled. “Oh, I stand corrected!” Twelfth NIght… that sort of rang a bell, but she couldn’t recall many details of that particular play. “It’s been a while since I read Twelfth Night. The main characters are Viola and Sebastian, right?”

Her eyes wandered to the pretty red gown again. “Speaking of which, this costume looks rather Shakespearean, don’t you think? Are there accessories that go with it?”

Apollonia obviously had no qualms over living in such a historic marvel as the Hogwarts castle was. She was of the belief that buildings could talk, that within the very stones and mortar were thousands of stories waiting to be heard. If anyone were to be happy remaining firmly in the past it was the History of Magic Professor, although perhaps without the hygiene issues of the past for Fergersnout did prefer the privacy of a modern day toilet cubicle. “We are lucky to have the abilities and resources to make it more comfortable, imagine the problems Muggles would have in heating.” There were far too many open corridors and lofty ceilings for it to remain warm in the winter months. “It is a rather splendiferous environment to learn in however. So much history in the fabrics of the building.” It had its advantages to the other subjects too but for now Apollonia’s thoughts remained firmly in her own camp.

That wasn’t to say that she was opposed to other play themes, it was just a personal preference. “Correct. It’s a comedic love triangle that morphs into a sort of love rectangle. I’d recommend you read it again if you were interested although it’s much better on stage.” It aided with understanding some of the Shakespearean language in her self proclaimed expertise.

Desiree considered the professor’s point, nodding after a moment. “I suppose that’s true. I didn’t think of that before,’ she said. Now that she did, she wondered what would happen if muggles did live in a castle like Hogwarts. Was it possible for them to install some sort of heating system, and how much trouble would it be if it was? Come to think of it, how much trouble was it when the plumbing here at Hogwarts was installed? Did they use magic to install the plumbing system or do it all the muggle way?

She didn’t dwell on the question for long, however. Not when there were more pressing matters to discuss, like Shakespeare! She smiled. "I understand, I like happy endings myself, but my favorite is romance, whether comedic or tragic.” Desiree’s ears perked up at the mention of the love triangle in Twelfth Night. Ooh, yes! The details were coming back to her now. “I'd love to see the play someday! In the meantime, I'll definitely give it another read.” Perhaps she could find a production of Twelfth Night this summer... if she could find the time between her job and the annual Marchand family trip to aFrance!

So the dress came with an Elizabethan bonnet? Fancy! Desiree's eyes followed the professor’s to the shelves. So much headwear! It was a shame she didn't have a clearer idea what the bonnet looked like; otherwise she would have summoned it. She stood on tiptoe, searching through the various headwear until she saw a bonnet that looked like it matched the dresses color and era. “Is this it?” She asked, holding it up.

It wasn’t a foreign concept that Muggles did live in huge historic castles, especially on the shores of the Lochs in Scotland. In fact the country was absolutely full of them but she imagined that they had all the mod-cons that Muggles had invented even if they were ancient. “I imagine they’d have a strong reaction to our ghostly friends too, don’t you?” she chortled. It became quite the norm to see a spirit wandering the floors for their kind but muggles were not as in tune with communicating with the deceased.

Apollonia was not a true romantic but appreciated the sentimental value that some had with the genre. “His tragedies are perhaps the most famous of his plays. It’s a shame that there are others that aren’t quite as well known. However the fact that his works are still so popular all these centuries later is quite the compliment to his brilliance.” She had written several books herself and could only hope that they could achieve a quarter of the popularity that he had.

Not that the average person wanted to read of the wonders of the Troll Wars.

The Professors eyes followed the student to the shelves where she selected a bonnet. “Yes that’s the one!” She had an inventory somewhere.

The squeal was the first thing that caught Vera's attention as she turned towards the door - figuring that noise was one of two younger classmen, both equally welcomed in her company. Hazel eyes met blue ones, similar to one of her other favorite faces (perhaps arguably her most favorite face) instead of those similar to her own. ”Bryony!” she chirped back with equal enthusiasm, already reaching for the hat on her head as the girl moved forward.

Once Bry was within reaching distance, she plopped it on her head before giving a nod. ”I haven't explored in here before so I thought it might be fun. Should we work together to see how outrageous of an ensemble we can create?”

Bryony wouldn't even be insulted to know that she wasn't Vera's most favoritest blue eyed person but only because she happened to know just who was! That person being one of her most favoritest peoples too! Even if she wasn't at all theirs. Hearing that enthusiasm in the older girls voice only made this small Slytherin beam all the more brightly. "Veraaaaaa!" she giggled delightedly once again. There wasn't too many older students that were always this glad to see her.

The hat that was dropped onto her head sat somewhat crookedly but this was what gave it charm, yes? What was going to add to the fun was that Bry hasn't had much of a chance to look at the hat that was now sat on top of her head and she had no intentions on taking it off to do so either. "Yeah, we should! It'll be much more fun to help each other then dress up all by ourselves."

See, that was one of the things Vera liked so much about Bryony - she had been quite certain the younger girl would understand. In fact, she was pretty sure that between Bry and her own little sister, they were pleased with the current relationship between Vera and Logan. Which was also adorable in it's own way. Also, even if Logan didn't outright SAY it, Vera was certain Bryony was in fact one of tops of the top of his hierarchy of people in his life. In fact, she'd wager (and be entirely fine with) the slytherin being higher than herself. Siblings trumped boyfriend/girlfriend. Also also, that was the other older students problem. Bryony Rose Paton was an absolute DELIGHT and you wouldn't hear Vera say different!

Ve considered fixing the crooked hat, but since Bry didn't seem too fussed herself either - she left it. Deciding it was it's own fashion statement of sorts. At Bryony's agreement to dress each other up, she grinned at the girl and turned back to racks of items, flipping through a few hangers to better look at items. "What's our goal? Silly, fashionable, intentionally horrible looking?" The closet was their oyster!

Of course she was pleased by it! It had only taken Vera and Logan ages upon ages to become an official couple. Did they know how long it had felt to her young self? Not to mention that the two of them could've ended up with partners that didn't like her! Now that would've been the worst. Bry really liked out here, Ve adored her just like her big brother did (Ahem.. she knew Logan LOVED her loads even if he didn't always want to be around her). It was also great that Vera had a sister super close to her age too. All the pluses here. As for her being an absolute delight, she knew! XD

The crooked hat perched on her head was very much a fashion statement. One that Bry might have to intentionally start to use, just because. This girl didn't always follow the crowd, you know. "Fun! Whatever makes us giggle." In other words.. the sillier the better! Bry bounced forward to rummage through some of the clothing options that were up front that she could easily get to.

Had this been voiced to Vera again she probably would have still argued that they hadn't always been interested in each other, which meant that it didn't really take them ages. Except, when one looked at the reality of it - she had started to be interested in Logan sometime in her third year... which was two whole years before anything had happened between the pair. But that didn't necessarily mean it had been forever on Logan's side, considering she had yet to get him to confess how long he'd been interested in her in a non-annoyance way. Also, as for Vera ending up with a partner that didn't like Bryony? It would have been impossible. Bry and Vesper were two sides of the same coin to her a lot of the time, which meant someone would have had to be kind and affectionate (even if in a teasing way) to both of them for her to even be interested. And she KNEW that was a fact. In fact, if she ever had to find someone else - that would have been top of the list of what she was looking for.

Not that she had any inclination to look, nor had she ever, really.

Vera would wholly support any Bryony started fashion trends - she'd put it on t-shirts and posters around the school too if the girl wanted! "Excellent. Laughter is always the best way to go!" She agreed with the snakette, a large grin on her face as she rummaged through and pulled out a boa - the feathered sort, not the scaled - and wrapped it around her own neck with a flourish. "What do we think? Can I pull off pink half as well as you?"

Okay, maybe this was true but when you were almost thirteen and waiting for something to happen, even the shortest amount of time could seem like AGES! Plus she had been even younger at that time. So not nearly as mature as she is right now, HA! Like she has a mature bone in her tiny body! Oooooh, well should Vera ask this little Miss right here all about that she would be more than glad to fill her in on ALLLLLLL the things Logan. Now if Bry knew that Ve felt that deeply about her, the young girl may have actually cried... probably not but she most definitely would've clung to the older girl in the tightest hug of her life.

In Bryony's opinion, Ve and Logan were end game. They were a great match and she didn't want to see them with anyone else.

There wasn't any need for all of that! At least not yet. Bry hadn't come up with anything she really loved as for style wise she was honestly all over the map. If it was comfortable, she would wear it. "Let's see how silly we can get then!" The pink feathery boa had the second year smiling brightly. "Everyone can pull off wearing pink!"

The thought of asking Bryony had not actually crossed Vera’s mind, which was perhaps peculiar. But even if it had, she wasn’t sure she would. It would certainly be more fun to hear the details from her boyfriend himself, though certainly if he was really not talking her mind might have changed on that. There was still time though until she eventually (hopefully) got the truth out of him. Other than that, she’d just have to keep bothering Bryony when she wanted the embarrassing stories she had not been present for. If it was ever something that was a necessity, she probably would have told Bryony - but since she didn’t actually need to worry about Vera dating someone not her brother for the moment, it need not be said.

As for being end game? Well, she certainly would hope. But at the same time, even her surprisingly romantic heart knew nothing was a certainty so she was just ready to enjoy what was the present.

While Ve had struggled to find her own sense of fashion, it had since occurred to her that anything that made someone feel good was the perfect style to wear. And if that meant one day you were dresses and tights but the next jeans and a baggy sweatshirt - then there was nothing more beautiful! Grabbing another boa, this time a vibrant red, Vera reached out to wrap it around Bry’s neck as well before sorting through again. “Hmmm… there are certainly a LOT of options! Anything call to you?”

This was A-okay. It really didn't surprise her that no one seemed to come to her for all the gossip about her siblings (namely Logan ahem). Cause seriously, being the babiest of sisters this girl had no issues with dishing all of the THINGS. And being that boys shadow for as many years as she had been (he was oh so very welcome by the way!) there wasn't all that much she didn't know. Eyes and ears everywhere was what she had. So anytime Vera wanted a hilarious story about her big bro, Merlin knew she was going to spill the beans.

Ha! See, Vera might not know it but Bryony did. Just like Aryan didn't think that he was Bryony's boyfriend since they were itty bitty. No one seemed to believe her about such things but she knew. Oh, deep down she knew.

Fashion had never been anything Bryony cared about. There had been many fazes in her twelve years of life. The time where she only wore tutus and fairy wings. Then the time where she HAD to dress like her big brother, much to his dislike. Only athelthic clothing because she was training constantly and COULD'NT wear anything else! When she wore that faded red beret hat for months all because Ary found it that one time outside the shop when they were searching for paperclips. Style was all about the there and now if anyone asked Bry. It varies from day to day now. A small giggle slipped past her lips when a red boa found its way around her own neck thanks to Vera. "I think you could use a hat," she grinned picking up a tiny one with a comically large flower protruding from the top and setting it on Ve's head.

Bryony’s lack of secrecy regarding all things Logan Paton was certainly something Vera would take advantage of (and possibly abuse) at later times. Being around him as long as she had, she’d been privy to plenty of his embarrassing moments as well, but she certainly knew there had to be others that he had intentionally hidden from her - especially earlier when she absolutely would have used the information against him. At least now that wasn’t her attention.

Well, had Vera known how certain she was she would have simply just had to declare she hoped Bryony was a seer and that that was correct. To be fair, if what Vera observed of the two second years she would be entirely surprised if Bryony had not called it correctly on that premonition regarding the small blond and her best friend. They were cute and she liked them both and while there certainly wasn’t a rush for while they were little, she’d be pleased to have them both as in laws one day. Heh.


Fashion itself had not been Vera’s goal. She was seeking approval from people telling her she was pretty and being interested in how she looked. It had never resulted in much, not when she was younger. And then she stopped caring as much, and decided instead she liked just being comfortable and if it looked good TOO well.. SCORE. It was very, very good Bryony and figured that out so early in life. “I would love a hat! I think you took mine.” She teased, knowing full well she had put it on Bry herself. With a new one now placed on her head, she stuck a pose before looking into the mirror. “Hmm, I think maybe I should start adding flowers to all my headwear. It’s a nice touch.”

Well someone had to fill her in on all the entertaining things that had to do with her big brother and that someone might as well be her. Now how Vera went and used the information she got from this little blonde cutie, well.. that wasn't Bryony's problem. Whatever happened to Logan he likely had it coming to him anyways and she was sure it was all in good fun. So he was so very welcome for all of her wonderful help.

Her, a seer? No way! She didn't want that kind of power. All she wanted was her and Ary together and Vera and Logan together. That wasn't asking too much, right?

Bryony happened to like the older Gryffindor's fashion sense. There was nothing at all wrong with going for comfort, it had its own style! "Did I? Oops." The Slytherin giggled, a bright smile on her face. "Oooh, we both should! It could be fun and flowers are a part of my name after all." Maybe having some flowers in her hair would help to but more smiles on the faces of those around her too and not only herself.

Luckily for Logan, any previous disagreements or silly skirmishes they’d had in the past had been sufficiently buried where they belonged. She didn’t even tease him about the things he used to say. Mainly, because she also didn’t want to be reminded of the things she used to say to him. But regardless, she had no grudges to settle with information from his little sister. Though she certainly knew where to go in the event some payback was needed.

Well, if she was legitimately asking Vera, she certainly would have said no! That wasn’t asking for not a lot at all!

Ve giggled too, giving a wave of her hand. “No oops, it looks better on you anyways.” She gently flicked the edge of said hat. “I love that idea. It can be our thing.” She replied, laughing softly. “You do have quite the floral name especially though. I’ve always liked it!”

That may very well be the case but that didn't necessarily keep this little blonde from telling the older Gryffindor tons of things about her big brother. With as much as she looked up to Logan she actually did her best to make him look good too, sometimes. There were times when she had to tell the embarrassing stories as well. It was a little sister thing.
